Develop iTunes for Linux?

Why doesn´t Apple build iTunes for Linux? I know alot of people that dont buy the Apple products just because there is no iTunes for Linux, so they buy Android instead.
Plz Apple give me answer...

Hhhmmm!
I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say here, but it certainly reads as though you believe my job is less important than someone who has had a college education in computer science. And that's without you even knowing what my education or occupation is.
This is a forum for people who use Apple products, not for computer geeks. For that, look elsewhere.

That's for Apple to decide though, isn't it?
No, truthfully that is a fact.
No, it is for Apple to decide and most certainly, not you.
Take careful note of my comment above: this is a forum for people who use Apple products. If you feel the need to knock Apple and its business decisions, there are far better places to vent your feelings than here.
Obviously anyone who comes to this site USES apple products, dont back such a product that can only do a few things and claims to do everything, just use it. Also a buisness such as apple has the right to decide but a good buisness would build it on every platform for obvious reasons.
Lastly, just because linux isnt your cup of tea, dosent mean you should try and knock something you dont know. you are the one who looks foolish, but wait, you have all the uneducated people who will support you...so feel good. (be thankful for linux people, they are the ones who drive prices DOWN. but i guess you always like paying 10.99 for a app that suggests what color socks to wear).

  • Why isn't there an iTunes for Linux?

There is no iTunes for Linux. And all I have on my computer is Linux. Can Apple not make iTunes for Linux, or is there a security issue, or something? I want to know.

    capablancauk,
Yes, you are correct. Both OSX and the Linux kernel are built on UNIX. I've only used a Mac once, and it was to install an Apache webserver with MySQL and PHP. Knowing Linux made it easy. OSX is the dummy's version of Linux. That being said, every OS requires specific program hooks, drivers, etc. in order to function properly.
Could it be about digital rights? I don't know.
But the truth is, Linux is a full-featured, secure (who needs antivirus?), cutting-edge OS with enormous power. I use it every day for software development, and a Mac would only slow me down.
Although, I have no doubt that the reason both Microsoft and Apple oppose Linux is pretty obvious. $$$$$

  • Itunes for Linux OS

How to install itunes for Linux OS ??

Some people have reported at least partial success using one of the Windows emulators such as WINE, so you might try that. There is no native version of iTunes for Linux and no indications from Apple that they have any plans for one.

  • Voting Thread for the SAP NetWeaver ABAP Developer Edition for Linux

    Hi Everyone,
as Mario Herger suggested in the discussion to his Blog [New Community Developer License is available|/people/mario.herger/blog/2010/01/20/new-community-developer-license-is-available] I start the topic requesting a SAP NetWeaver ABAP Developer Edition for Linux.
    Best regards
    Gregor

I think having a pre-packaged VMWare machine running on Windows or Linux would be great as it would help a lot of the non-Basis consultants get a system up and running. Perhaps even offer it as an AMI package on AWS so that hardware is not an issue.
I'd also like to see the traditional installation packages offered as many technical consultants use the build as a process to look at installation issue and post installation configuration.
I think both the pre-built and build it from scratch approaches have an audience here on SDN and I'd like to see both being offered.
In fact I'm just looking at the new license options one of which come with the DVD's which is ideal but at a price!
    Thanks,
    George M-A

I found the best way to handle using the program between networked computers is to use extension arguments.
    Simply.
Install the program as administrator BUT do not let it start when installed.
Then edit the properties of the desktop icon so that it has properties so that you run firefox with command line arguments (www.kb.mozillazine.org/command_line_arguments)
Thus if your desktop icon on each Pc is firefox.exe -profile "h:\firefox\profile"
Firefox when started with this desktop icon will always use the profile on the server drive H
Once this is completed you can run the program and it will create the profile in the selected drive location.
if you delete the profile it will create another in the same location.
This also works for Mozilla Thunderbird.
Hope this helps anyone that had the same problem as me.
    Berni

There is no release of iTunes for Linux, hence there is no support community.  Certainly your question is not appropriate for the iTunes Match forum.

  • When you will make iTunes for Linux?

We are need iTunes for Linux OS!

These are user-to-user forums, they are not monitored by Apple (there are too many forums/threads/messages for that to happen). If you want to leave feedback for Apple then you can do so here : http://www.apple.com/feedback - but the market share for Linux is very small so it's probably not going to happen any time soon (if at all)

  • How about Itunes for Linux?

Please can someone tell me when a version for Linux will be released? With Microsoft making a total mess of Windows, we have been installing many Ubuntu Linux clients but they are complaining that there is no Apple support within Linux. There is not even an Apple-Linux community forum to which The growing number of Linux users can turn. So What is the story here chaps? When will the ITunes client be ported to Linux?
    JB

I don't believe Apple will ever release a version for Linux.
However you could consider CrossOver for Linux and then running iTunes for Windows via that. This is from Apple's point of view probably not allowed but as iTunes is 'free'...

    Hi tmx,
You can connect your PlayBook to Linux with both USB and Wifi.
The trick is to access it like a network device both ways.
    USB method:
    1. Plug in the PlayBook to your system and make sure that file sharing is set to 'Mac'.
    2. In the network icon you should see a new connection appear. If not, click on the icon and look at connection information.
    3. You should have a USB network device with an IP address of something like 169.128.123.123. Make a note of this number, and subtract 1 from the final 3 numbers for the next step.
    4. Open your home folder (Nautilus) and in the location bar type in smb://169.128.123.122 - based on your address that you wrote down in the last step. You have to subtract 1 to connect to the PlayBook like I did in my example.
    5. You should see the PlayBook appear as a 'Windows share', in there is the 'media' folder. Double-click and the PlayBook will be mounted as a network disk.
I know it's a bit fiddly, but once you've done it a few times it's really simple. I've been meaning to write a script to automate this... When I eventually get around to this I'll post it here
    1. If any post helps you please click the below the post(s) that helped you.
    2. Please resolve your thread by marking the post "Solution?" which solved it for you!
