Develop Mode in Lightroom
All of a sudden, the edit function in the Develop mode does not work (it's not lit up). Is there something that I did to cause this to happen, and how do I resolve this?

I have Lightroom 5.4 under the CC from Adobe. EVerytime i opened an image up in Develop mode, the program would crash and Microsoft would tell me its stopped working. After playing around with it, now it wont even open up images in ANY of the modes, WHAT IS GOING ON WITH LIGHTROOM ?!?
First of all, if you don't know much about how applications work inside of the OS, its wise to not look in the application folder(s). Deleting anything here can make your apps go haywire. If this happened, then you are best to 1)unregister photoshop, 2) uninstall your entire suite. 3) reinstall the suite and finally 4) reregister photoshop.
All images/textures/photo's including dng, cr2 and nef files need to be stored in your pictures folder and no where else, unless you're an intermediate user on your OS. In your pictures folder you can create folders for organizing the pictures whether by location, season's, time, or file format.
Then when you back up you can just drag a copy of the files to another drive including cd's or dvd's.
This will make sure you don't accidently delete important app files.
All this said, my OS of choice is Windows, so if anything does not sound right, thats why.
Hopefully this helps... -
The Navigator in "Develop" mode in Lightroom 5 doesn't show current photo
In Library mode, the Navigator does what I'm used to from previous versions of Lightroom -- it shows a preview of the currently selected photo. However, when I go into "Develop" mode, the Navigator chooses another photo from the collection I'm working on (always the same one, it seems) and shows that one. This is frustrating, because I like to use the Navigator in Develop mode to see previews of an edit I'm working on. It's also just nonsensical that it shows a different photo.
Is this a setting I need to set somewhere, or a bug?

Michelle, where did you find that option? I have this problem as well with LR5, but can't find that option.

Develop Mode to Print mode problem
I cannot find a Lightroom 4 beta thread so I will ask my questiion here. When using the Develop mode in Lightroom 4 beta and then switching to the Print mode the photo I was just working on in Develop mode does not show on the screen but the last photo I actually printed shows again. What do I not have set right so that the current picture I was working on shows in the Print mode? I did not have this problem in Lightroom 3.
At the top of this forum, see the notice "Read this before posting about LR 4!!!"

Lightroom 4 Bug: can only see photos in Library mode, not develop mode
This may be related to other imported catalog bugs, but does not seem to be quite the same. In Lightroom 4, with an upgraded Lightroom 3 catalog:
1. Select a photo in Library mode.
2. Click on Develop to go to Develop mode
Screen shows "No photo selected". I cannot edit photos in Develop mode.
I can see and edit photos that are found in smart collections, but not photos that are simply in my collections from 2012, 2011, etc. foldersThis happened to me, too, after importing a couple older LR3 catalogs (upgrading/consolidating). I could see the photo in Library module but when I pressed "D" (single photo selected) I was getting the "no photo selected" error message--for every photo I tried. I wasn't able to open any photos at all in the develop module. (These were photos that were fine before installing LR4 and upgrading.) Photos were from imported LR3 and LR4 Beta catalogs.
I restarted and everything seems ok--for now!
So if you come across this thread with this same issue, restart and see if that helps. (Before restarting LR I optimized as suggested above, which did nothing for the "no photo selected" issue. And this isn't related to the parent folder issue, I left my photos in the same place and didn't have more than 3k photos in any of the parent folders. I read in other threads that people had the issue again after importing other catalogs. I'm about to do that so I'll report back. -
I use lightroom with the soft proofing feature for my printing. I used to make a copy proof, but all of the sudden something changed, and even if I'm on the copy in the developing mode it prints the original. Also, If i chose a file that was already in light room to print, even though I have the chosen file up in the developing mode, it will instead print the most recent file that I added to lightroom. If found a way to work around these problems, (check make this the copy in the soft proofing, and copy my settings and delete and reload the old files) but it's a slight hassle and it didn't use to do this. Not sure why it changed. Could I have accidentally changed a setting?

Lightroom cc in the develop mode insted of showing the picture there is blue screen
lightroom cc in the develop mode insted of showing the picture there is blue screen
Try disabling the GPU option: Preferences>Performance tab.
Probability is that some other app has enabled a setting (FPS?) on the graphics card which causes Lightroom a problem. So disable the setting in Lightroom first, to get you going again, then you can try to figure out what needs to be changed on your system to get it working again. -
As an absolute newcomer to Lightroom 5 I have downloaded images direct from camera (IOlympus EM-1) and divided them into folders. When I go into Develop mode, some folders can be developed ok , but with images from two other folders I get the message "This file could not be found". What should I do?
may i suggest opening the files in Olymous Viewer 3 and exporting them (you can do some editing there if you wish or not) asTIFF files. After that you can import the new files into LR. LR seems to like tiiff more than .orf files
The advantage to using OV3 is that it seems to do a much better job converting RAW EM1 files. Colors are more accurate ( my red flower pot turned orange when loaded directly into lightroom)
. The tiff files just LOOK better in LR after the conversion . there is a youtube on this subject and when i tried it myself i was impressed -
Cannot control size of adjustment brush in Lightroom 5 Develop mode
Whenever I click on the adjustment brush tool in Develop mode, its circle of influence automatically expands to the maximum diameter.
Even when I try to contain the dimensions of the circle via the LR5's size slider or left bracket key, the adjustment brush diameter remains at the max diameter.
Please advise. This problem is caused by changing the cursor size in the ACCESSIBILITY settings in your OS. Here is a screen shot from the Mac but Windows has similar settings. I reported this in Lightroom 2 or 3 and it is STILL not fixed. (Adobe's bug fixing rate to me is pretty dismal) If you change your system cursor to anything except "Normal" you will get this behavior as Lightroom doesn't account for the system preferences. I would like to make my cursor bigger but this prevents it.

When you make changes in develop mode the pic becomes Blury(Lightroom 3)
Hey guys,
I am on develop mode. I change let's say the exposure on my pic. After the change the pic becomes blury and doesn't refresh automatically. I have to go to 1:1 preview or change picture to load again and clear the picture. My preview quality is set to : High and standard previews to maximum. Never had the same problem on previous versions of Lightroom. Really ennoying. Any ideas ?
Thnx for your attentionSee this thread for more info. Apparently it's a bug.

I lost my Basic module in Develop mode...HELP!
While letting someone borrow my lightroom, I lost my Basic module in the Develop mode. I am LOST without it. How can I get it back? Reinstall? Time Machine from past? Will I lose pics if I do that?
Right click any panel header onthe right hand side of the interface, and place a check mark next to "Basic."
Or, press Ctrl-1 (Windows) or Cmd-1 (Mac).
There's also a menu command to view the panel, but I can't remember it and I don't have LR in front of me right now.

Allow editing metadata in develop mode
My biggest dissatisfaction about Lightroom right now is the distinction between Library and Develop modes or views. I would dearly love to get rid of the "quick develop" panel - perhaps make that something that could be displayed via the application prefs - and put the keywords and metadata panels into the develop module. I find myself frequently wanting to switch from one module to another - to add a keyword while I'm adjusting the exposure, or to jump over to the editable histogram while I'm sorting out the keepers from the losers. I don't currently use the Web or Print modules at all, so I just ignore them.
WillQuick Develop serves 2 purposes - adjustment of lots of images in increments, and adjustment so you can compare and evaluate images (eg when you've been bracketting). It also uses cached data, while Develop accesses the original image data - so things happen quicker.
I didn't like QD at first either, but I'd recommend you give it more of a chance and don't delete it (you can Alt/Opt click it). Secondly, Ctrl/Cmd click the Sync button in Develop so you enter Auto Sync mode - this makes Develop adjustments apply to all selected items and great reduces the back and forth between Library and Develop.

How can I REPLACE original RAW files with JPG's and keep my 'Develop mode' edits?
An image describing my problem:
http://i.imgur.com/hcqMYkv.jpg
(Lightroom 5)
'edits' = Edits made in develop mode.
'CR2' = My RAW image file format.
I have existing CR2's with edits for them saved in Lightroom.
I want to replace the CR2's with JPG's, and do nothing else. I want those JPG's to inherit the CR2's edits, but I DO NOT want the edits to be permanently applied to the image.
If I export the CR2's (which have edits) to JPG's, the edits will be permanently applied to them. I do not want this.
If I export the CR2's to JPG's without the edits, I have no way of getting the edits back and will have to redo the work if I use that photo again.
Any solutions? I've been trying for a while and have no idea how to do this.
Q: Why not keep the CR2's?
A: I am uploading these files to an online host (S3) as my primary storage method and uploading CR2's takes way too long with my internet speeds. Furthermore, online storage costs money.
Q: Why not shoot with JPGs instead of shooting raw?
A: I do my initial edits with the raw files and then archive them as JPG's to save storage space. They won't be raw anymore if I apply future edits, but I still have the option of retouching them from the 'original' state and still have my old edits preserved.Probably the best thing for you to do is simply use lossy DNG format (e.g. export as, or convert to..): raw data is re-formatted with jpeg compression (full-rez or reduced-rez), but all raw settings apply.
If you insist on trying to have a true jpeg file with (mostly) raw settings, then:
The simplest way I can think of to do it without a script or plugin:
* Reset the raw photo (consider preserving things that don't translate well, like profile-based lens corrections and white balance).
* Export jpeg
* Un-reset the image (e.g. using edit history or pre-reset snapshot).
* Sync settings from raw to jpeg (note: omit settings that don't transfer well, or that were not reset..).
* Optionally: Delete raw
To automate/streamline would require a script or plugin. -
Develop Mode: Why Do Some Controls Do Nothing
I recently edited a 150 photos. I notice that certain controls in develop mode have no impact when I make adjustments. A good example is Sharpening. There are no changes to the Histogram (you can tell by the motion) or in the image swatch shown above Sharpening. Changes to chromatic aberration and noise reduction also have no impact. Is this a function of the camera, RAW files, or what? This isn't a complaint. I am just curious whether my experience is universal (which I doubt because why would Lightroom have the controls) or a result of my camera, lens, camera setting, or subject matter choices.
Thanks
Jack SiegelYou need to be view an image at 100% pixel view or higher to see the effects
of the adjustments you listed. This is by design.

Develop mode toolbar has two versions
In Develop mode my catalog toolbar has two versions depending on the photo I'm working on.
Means some have been processed in Process Version 2010 and some in PV2012.
