Develop presets have different effects after saving file as either .tif or .psd

When I open a raw .dng file in Photoshop and MAKE NO CHANGES and then save it (either .tif or .psd), the resulting photo appears to be identical to the original raw .dng file. HOWEVER when I then apply development presets (whether my own or Lightroom presets), the presets have a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT effect on the .tif or .psd file than the .dng file. More precisely: the .tif or .psd files have significantly more contrast, saturation and are significantly more exposed. And in fact, despite using the exact same preset, the histograms for each of the pics are different. In addition, the same preset on the .dng file treats colors differently than on the .tif or .psd file. After much experimenting and comparing of each development module and each individual slider, the sliders that seem to behave differently are Brightness, Contrast and Saturation. With each of these sliders, however, the difference in effect is only minimal and should not affect hue, but when applying a preset that affects hue, the actual change in hue is different for the .dng file vs the .tif. or .psd file. All of this even though all of the presets are the same. Whatsmore, applying Auto Tone on the two apparently identical files results in dramatically different affects: the .tif or .psd file is properly corrected, whereas the .dng file has its Brightness decreased and Contrast increased, i.e. the Auto Tone moves the sliders different for the .dng file than for the .tif or .psd file. Is there a solution to this problem?

I'm one of those who eventually migrated from PS to LR. I used to do a layered TIFF for every selected image. With 17-21MP raw files, that amounted to usually between 180-250MB files in addition to the raw. After completely changing my approach, for 99% of my work now I only work from the raw file, including printing / generating web JPEGS. This was really enabled by having the spotting and local editing at the raw file level. But pretty much no more TIFFs as working / final images, just raws with settings. Obviously different people have different requirements, but it's well worth looking into the switch in approach, even if you still end up using PS / Bridge / ACR.

How to change all the document numbers using "Comment" feature? Any alternate method?  alternate method? I have Adobe Acrobat X Pro and Windows -7 platform.

Yes, I just want to cover up all the pages for those particular area of document numbers.
Nothing sensitive about it. I just want to show the correct document numbers on all pages in print out.
So, I wanted to cover up by comments, but commenting on each page will be difficult. So, I wanted to comment the same on all pages.

I'm not sure that Lion AutoSave feature apply to network servers.
I'm just sure that the Versions feature doesn't.

  • Why are files in Firefox 33 cache directory different size than saved files on desktop

In previous versions of Firefox I used the cache directory to extract videos, flash files and hidden images, that were not saved in folder and a HTML Document file on desktop. For Example the opening image of a YouTube Video can not be extracted and saved from Firefox but is stored in the cache directory.
To find these files without going through them one at a time, I would copy the cache folder on a desktop folder and then use Double Killer to delete the same size files in both the cache and the saved files in the desktop file folder. The files that are left behind in the cache folder are those that did not save to the desktop file and folder. I can then double check to see if I can find the videos, flash or images from the remaining files.
I have updated to Firefox 30.0.3. The problem now is that the files in the cache are different in KB size from the saved files on the desktop folder. The dimensions of a saved image are the same but the size of the file differ. Now I can not use Double Killer to delete files and have to go through the whole cache directory one by one to find files that were not saved.
Why did the Firefox developers changed the cache directory? Do I need to revert to a previous version of Firefox or is there a way that I can change the cache directory of Firefox 33.0.3 and the size that it stores files.
Would also like to know what add-on gives the best quality screenshot with flash.
Thanks for this support. Apart from this cache problem I find Firefox easy to use and the best web browser.

Current Firefox 32+ releases use a new cache service named Cache2 and this cache service works differently.
Files in the cache2 folder are special files that also store the meta data apart from the actual file data that you see on the about:cache page if you click an item.

  • Process would have different ID after deploy

I would consider my other problem running BAM on the server solved as I managed to make it work.
As it is working I have found another interesting problem. In the studio developer environment the BAM_PROCESSES table would be populated with the process names and each one would have an ID, that is all fine, but once you deploy your project to a server the server BAM database would create these entries in its own BAM_PROCESSES table with different IDs. So the BAM_ACTIVITIES table entries would have different IDs as well... This a bigger problem as you refer these activities by their IDs for example when you create a dashboard.
So the whole dashboard functionality would not work as the activities IDs would be different then in the development environement.
Is there a work around for this? Why are these IDs different anyway, why it is not guaranteed that the deployed project would be the same as the development phase project? Is it a bug (or a feature;\)?

Sorry, with the activity id I was refering to the ACTIVITYIN. The real id is the ACTIVITYID field -and that is the same in both enviroment. So I can use this field in the dashboards to identify an activity.
I was mislead by the fact that ACTIVITYID is not unique in BAM_ACTIVITIES table X-(

  • Why is same file different sizes after saving for web?

I have files that I save in PSCS3, under, "Save for Web & Devices" and I indicate under "optimize to file size" that they should be no larger than 60K. After item is saved and I go to "Get info", it says the file is 60K. Yet when I open the file in PS and go to Image Size, it says 467K. Why the discrepancy? Thanks for your feedback!

One is the compressed file size on disk (60K). The other is the uncompressed image size (369 pixels x 432 pixels x 8 bits per channel x 3 channels / 8 bits per byte  / 1024, since K really is 1024, not 1000).

  • After effects not saving files!

yo after effects cs5.5 is saying warning error not able to save (file name) Why would it do this?

By "save a file" I'm guessing (since you don't provide any information at all!) that you are talking about an AE project file? Can you save it to another location on your disk?

  • Edit in Photoshop CS6 - after saving, file ends up in a seperate directory in Library module but ...

         Hi,
I'm getting this really annoying thing when I edit and save a file in Photoshop CS6 from Lightroom. After I save and return to LR4.2 in Windows Explorer it puts the TIFF in the same directory next to the original RAW file as it should, however in the Library module it gets a different entry. So I end up with the same directory listing with the photocount 1 next to it. It also doesn't show up in the main directory where all the other files are, it's not next to the originel RAW.
I can do "show parent folder" until the point I get to the root directory which then gives me an error message which says
    Anyone know why this occurs?
    Greets

Image files are on a different drive, the catalog is on my main SSD drive
I have recently bought a new computer with Windows 8
Here's a screenshot of the folder structure. The blurred out folders are the same btw.

  • After Saving File get Message "Could not find the included template"

I have a strange issue going on and it's becoming very, very annoying.  When I edit a file on our web server (it's a virtual machine running Windows Server 2008) and then try to view it in my browser, I get the error message "Could not find the included template".  If I refresh the page (sometimes upwards of 40 times) my page with whatever changes I made will finally load.  I checked with our system administrator and he's not aware of what could be causing this.
It happens on whatever the most recent file I was working on.  If it's a ColdFusion file, I get the "Could not find the included template" error.  If it's a change to my stylesheet, the styles will not load.  Again, in both instances it takes hitting F5 upwards of 40 times until the page displays correctly.
Has anybody else ever encountered such an issue?  It's happening on two separate virtual servers (both Win 2008), one has CF9 installed and the other CF10.  It get's frustrating having to referesh before the page or stylesheet get picked up.  Any help or suggestions are appreciated!
    Thanks.

That means that the file 'template.cfm' is not where
    ColdFusion needs it
to be so that it can include it. Which is generally in the
    same folder
    at page.cfm with that syntax.

  • Print presets not keeping settings after saved?

I've created a preset to have the object printed to Scale at 100%, but none of the settings stick. I turned off Auto Rotate, set it to Landscape, and set it to Scale-100%, but after every print job it goes back to Auto Rotate: On, Portrait, and Scale to Fit: Print Entire Image.
Scale is the important one here, the others were just tests to see if any settings I change are staying, however none of them seem to. Any ideas? This is on a 2.66GHz Intel Core2Duo running 10.6.8.
Thanks in advance for any help, this is really frustrating!

Yes, it works fine when I hit Print that first time, it's when I go BACK to do more using what should be a preset that the settings aren't sticking. If I make a preset, I shouldn't have to change the settings every single time, since that sort of negates the point of a preset.

  • Folder view changes after saving file

After a while, whenever I choose a starting folder in a save dialog, where the folder view is Columns, the folder view changes to that view in Finder as well, but I want it to stay in List view, while brows in the save dialog in Columns view.
How can I make sure, that whichever folder I choose from the save dialog, it's view never changed from List to Columns view, (regardless wether I choose Column view, or it opened already in that view) without changing each and every folder preference individually?

Every time you resave a JPEG, information is lost. How much depends upon the degree of compression - more compression, more loss, smaller file.
A one off save is probably insignifincant. The fact that the file size changes is unsurprising. PSE probably does its compression a bit differently from the camera.

  • Title.numbers folder formes on desktop after saving file

    This is driving me crazy
I have a large Numbers file, with several screens and I update it many times a day and when I so, iWorks 09 places a folder on my desktop with the title of my file . number folder and within that folder is the following:
    Version History.plist
    index.xml
folder titled : Quick Look and in that one is Preview.pdf. and Thumbnail.jpg
I dump all these into the trash. I don't want them....
How can I stop the developing of them????

Yes. For some unknown reason (maybe a third party product) you get on your desktop the expanded structure of a Numbers'09 document.
If you select the folder then apply the Finder > File > Compress feature to this wxyz folder, you will get the wxyz.zip archive.
    Rename it as wxyz.numbers.
It will get the Numbers 'icon and a double click will open it in Numbers.
Given that, the true problem is to discover which component of your installation is the wrongdoer.
My guess is that it's a third party component.
As I already wrote several times, Stuffit Expander is one of these products able to fool Numbers.

  • Illustrator files dissapear after saving files

    hi
we are all working on a network, mac computers all running mavericks. It started to happen few days ago that .ai files dissapear after editing and saving.
    any solution?
    Thanks!

    gonzalom,
It is always recommended here to open/save from/to own hard disk, and to copy from/to networks and removable media. You may be lucky (for a while), but the chances of file corruption and other unpleasantnesses are immensely greater when you use anything but the harddisk, and it is better to be safe than sorry.
In addition to the (far greater) risk of file corruption, some issues are mentioned here:

  • INDesgin image links broken after saving file across systems

    Hi
We have a scenario involving 3 components:
    1. Linux file server running both SMB and AFP (sharing the same directory thru both protocols)
    2. MacOS 10.5 (Leopard) with INDesign CS3 connecting to the Linux server thru AFP
    3. Windows 2003 server running INDesign CS3 connecting to the Linux server thru SMB (or NFS)
    The scenario:
    1. We create an INDD document and link an image to the AFP share (on the linux)
    2. On the windows 2003 server we open the same document from the SMB share (on the linux) - no error/broken links message is received.
    3. We save the document with a irrelevant to images change, (eg. Adding a text block) to the SMB share
    Here is the problem:
    4. We open the document on the MacOS and receive "Broken links" message atlhough when you look at the path of the image you see the correct AFP path (needless to mention the path is mounted on the MacOS properly and the images are fully accessible)
What can we do, so we will not receive a broken links popup on step #4 of the scenario?
    Thanks

No answers, but a few questions:
Just to be clear, by "broken" you mean missing, not in need of updating, right?
What version of netatalk are you using on the Linux box? Does it implement AFP 3?
What version of InDesign CS3 are you using? Is it fully patched to the last public version (5.0.4.682) or newer?
Are there any potentially problematic characters (e.g., slashes, backslashes, unicode characters, etc.) in the file names or the directories in the full paths?
If you make note of the full path on the Mac when the document is first created, and then compare it very carefully with the same path when you re-open it and get the broken links messages, can you detect any differences? It might also be interesting to place one of the same "missing" images in the document again once you've re-opened it on the Mac, and compare the two paths...
