Develop settings suddenly changed ?

I just imported a new batch of dngs from Canon 10D to LR 2.3 on Win XP.  The images are still coming up "As Shot", which is correct, but many Develop settings have changed since I used LR yesterday.  This has happened in both my 'slide scans' .lrcat and my 'digital' .lrcat.
Black is now 5 (was 0)
Brightness is +50 (was 0)
Contrast is +25 (was 0)
Linear has changed to Medium Contrast
Noise Reduction - Color is 25 (was 0)
Sharpness is +25 (was 0)
I've never (knowingly) set ANY presets in Develop.  What did I do and how do I revert to the 'before' state?  (I prefer to start at '0' with all my images - except, of course, a few like Sharpness - Radius 25, etc.)

Hi Dennis (spelling?),  I was wrong on a couple of points.  First, those settings are NOT in my 'slide' .lrcat.  Second, I was hasty and mistaken: Those changes only appear in this most recent import of 47 (dng) images, today's download.  And, third, not ALL the settingS were 0 (probably defaults) but the things I listed are definite changes from the appearance of my Develop module panel from yesterday back to day 1 with LR.
In my digital catalog of 9K images, several thousand of which are dngs, I have NOT had those numbers appear before - you must believe I would have noticed things like 'Linear' being 'Med Contrast' while working almost daily in LR . . .

  • All Settings Suddenly Changed - All Info Removed from Iphone

    This morning I went to sync as usual and got an error message saying "not enough space on my iPhone".. which has never happened before.... As I started to investigate, (using the iTunes inteface) it looks like all my music was removed from my phone. Now, when I look at the bar diagram of my iPhone 90% of my space is filled with "Other"......
    I have done nothing different to my iPhone or to my computer, and wondered why all my settings got wacked?
    Am I crazy (like it says on my bracelet?) or have others ran into this issue?

    What happened was some part of your last sync was corrupted and, subsequently, your information was garbled. Since the iPhone can't read the garbled information, it reports it as other.
    You need to restore the phone from iTunes and the problem will be corrected.

  • Copy-Pasting crop settings also affects other Develop settings?

    I noticed the following behavior in my Lightroom 4.3. Let's say I have two almost identical pictures. Both have their Develop settings reset, no keywords and store some GPS info (so in the flimstrip both pictures have a "geotag" icon overlaid on them and no other icons).
    Now, I go to Develop screen and crop the first picture. I leave other Develop settings untouched. This makes a "crop" icon to appear on the first picture in the filmstrip. All works as it should.
    After that I ask Lightroom to copy the Develop settings from the first picture. In the selection dialog I leave everything unchecked besides the crop settings. I.e. I want to copy crop settings only, nothing else. Then I immediately paste these settings over the second picture. Expectedly, the second picture gets cropped in exactly the same way as the first one. It also acquires a "crop" icon in the filmstrip. However, in addition to the crop icon it also gets a "+/-" icon, as if some other Develop settings got changed by the paste as well. A quick inspection shows that all Develop settings (besides crop, of course) remain at their default values.
    I wonder why the second picture acquires that "+/-" icon. Is there some hidden Develop setting that gets affected by my paste, even though I explicitly asked Lightroom to copy crop settings only? Or is it just a user-interface-level bug?

    I reported this strange behaviour a year ago already for LR 3.4: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lightroom_3_4_1_wrong_activation_of_ badge_has_delevop_adjustments. LR 4.3 seems to have the same bug (at least I think it is a bug).
    As far as I know, no "real" development settings are affected by this bug, however an internal flag for "has development settings" seems to be set when the "+/-"-badge appears. This means that such images are found by smart collections with "has adjustments = true". So it is not just an user-interface-level bug.

  • Sudden change in network settings - can no longer access web sites

    All of a sudden, I am no longer able to access any web sites on my Mac Mini. Everything was working fine and then yesterday I tried to get on-line to look something up and it didn't work.
    I restarted the computer, checked internet connectivity - which all appeared to be working correctly. When I went to check my System Preferences, Network - I got a message that pops up telling me my network settings had changed but it hangs there and when I click OK, it just hangs. I have to force quit to exit the network settings. The only change I've made recently has been to load Genius to itunes.

    I too have noticed that there's a split second after typing return that you can click on something (I've done "edit locations" in the pop-up). It solves temporarily, but seems to come back whenever you reboot or log in.
    I'm trying to decide if I have an additional problem or is a further complication: I'm using DSL through ethernet with the phone company. The symptoms of my intermittent problem are that sometimes I suddenly can't receive back web pages or email...loading a page or getting mail will simply time out without response. All other indications, however are that the connection is still good including status lights on the DSL modem and using the network utility to test a URL look up. I might attribute this to the security update bug, but two other machines that connect through the same hub and modem get no action either once this happens (TiPB running 10.4.3 & Prismo running 10.3.9). Is there any chance that the security update on the AlPb with 10.4.11 is blocking incoming traffic by setting something out at the DSL modem?

  • Aspect ratio suddenly changes in LR develop window without user interaction

    I imported some Nikon NEF images with sidecar JPEGs using NikonView/NikonTransfer (rotate image turned on). Afterwards I imported the images into Lightroom (copy to new locacation). The LR option "treat JPEG files next to RAW files as seperate" is turned off.
    I can see every image with correct orientation in the Lightroom Library.
    But for 2 images when I switch to LR Develop the aspect ratio suddenly changes in film strip and large image display. The image is a 2:3 image but in Develop window it is shown as 3:2 image (not rotated but errorneously shrinked/stretched). That is really strange. I did nothing else than switching between Library and Develop! No rotation, no crop, nothing.
    I can toggle between Library and Develop window: The image is shown 2:3 in Library and 3:2 in Develop.
    This behaviour occurs for 2 images, not for all images.

    For some reason it just started to work now. Have no idea what didn't work before.

  • Changing Develop Settings

    Hi peeps
    There seems no way of changing a photo's develop settings except via applying a develop preset. is this true.
    I've found
    photo:getDevelopSettings()
    but sadly nothing to
    "addDevelopSettings()"

    I was assuming that if a develop setting can be written to a preset ( in LR itself ) then a plugin can also apply these settings as it can call a Dev preset.
    I assume that as well, although I haven't verified all cases. You can't enable/disable sections using reglar presets, but they can be set in preset applied by plugin. Actually, it wouldn't surprise me if it could be done using a hand-edited preset too, but haven't checked (there is no UI for it, in any case).
    Crop settings are clearly not settable in reglar preset: many forum posts requesting it.
    Orientation could be handled like a dev adjustment but isn't.
    Thanks,
    Rob
    Unless I'm misinterpreting what you mean by enable/disable these parameters enable or disable dewvelop sections in a regular Dev Preset
    EnableCalibration = false,
    EnableColorAdjustments = false,
    EnableDetail = false,
    EnableEffects = false,
    EnableLensCorrections = false,
    EnableSplitToning = false,
    EnableToneCurve = false,
    I remembered this as I'd recently created a Develop Preset to apply on import which switched off most sections.

  • Import preset change of develop settings saving problem.

    I think this is a bug:
    In Library/ Import
    When I want to change Apply during Import/ the Develop Settings, the my existing Import Preset cannot be updated with this change.
    I only can create a new Import Preset with that.
    But anyway if I change to another Import Preset the Develop Settings do not change and stay with the settings I did choose in the previous Import Preset.
    The newly created Import Preset works fine though in LR 3.6.
    Frans

    This is the behaviour under LR3 :
    Left down corner My Import Preset with Right top corner Develop Settings  set to None
    Now when I change the Develop Setting to B&W
    the Import Preset name changes to DMC-GF1 ©CFW Rename (Edited)
    That does not work in LR4.
    Keep up the Good Work ,Victoria ! Thanks.

  • My 'save image as" settings have suddenly changed. where can i access them to change them back?

    It used to be when I'd "save image as..." I could choose a folder and be given its contents in list form before saving. helped a lot in not duplicating names. Now when I save an image my save menu has suddenly changed to a completely horizontal format bar in whicj I choose one folder on the tree at a time and it gives me no choice as to format in which to save nor visual on the folders existing contents. How can I access settings for saving images?
    Thanks

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    *Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    *https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
    In Firefox 4 and later [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode Safe mode] disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.
    *Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • Lightroom 2 save develop settings after folder remove?

    I just upgraded to Lightroom 2 and notice that it doesn't save images' develop settings after I remove the folder from the library. So next time I reimport that folder, my develop settings previously applied to those images are gone! Anyway to fix this?

    >Frankly, I don't quite understand what's going on.
    Neither do I. x.x
    Here is an example of what's going on.
    I import a photo.
    I edit that photo in Dev Module such as recovery, clarity and noise reduction(Luminance).
    As I opted for "automatically write changes into XMP", now I've got those changes in the XMP sidecar file as well as in the Lightroom 2 Catalog.lrcat.
    At the same time, I have now 4 lines of History including 'Import'(Highlight Recovery, Clarity, Luminance Smoothing)
    Quite normal and no problem until here.
    When I open that photo several days later, I suddenly have that little up-arrow icon(meaning "metadata was changed externally").
    And the photo is like the one I imported without three changes I made above.
    Naturally, in History, there is only one line, 'Import'.
    Now I have two option,
    1. "import Settings from Disk"
    2. "Overwrite Settings"
    If I chose 1, I have my edited photo back with 3 changes above. It's from XMP (or Catalog), I guess. However, 3 lines of changes in History disappear and only 'Import from metadata' and 'import(date and time) remain. So I can't really use history to see what exactly I've done with that photo. (Well I still can see each change with the right side panel but it's not as quick and convenient as History.
    If I chose 2, of course, I lose both my edited photo and 3 lines of History. It's just as if I imported from my Compact Flash.

  • Cannot copy or clear develop settings in Adobe Bridge

    okay, here's my problem. all of the sudden i am no longer able to clear or copy develop settings when i right click on raw files in adobe bridge. the problem seemingly began out of nowhere. when i attempt to use these functions i get the following error message: "Bridge's parent application is not active. Bridge requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature." i have googled this to no end and it seems there is no solution that actually works. just to be clear, all of the results for this search ive found seem to be users getting the same error message and the inability to OPEN raw files from bridge; this is NOT my issue. i can still open raw files from bridge with no problems whatsoever but i just cant clear my develop settings. ive googled "cannot clear develop settings" and have found nothing specific to my situation. ive tried resetting bridge and camera raw to their default settings and that hasnt worked. ive moved my cache to a different drive and that hasnt worked. i opened bridge from photoshop and that also hasnt worked. id like to think there is a solution that doesnt require me to uninstall and re-install the entire application. any help would be greatly appreciated.

    any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Develop module sudden lag at start...

    I'd add this to the gigantic "LR is slow" topic, but it's a different oddity........
    Windows 7, i920 at 3.8GHz, 12GB of memory, running LR 4.3 RC.  It was working better.  Yes, it's still not blinding fast or even as adequately fast as 3.6, but it was BETTER........
    And it's been better for a couple weeks.  I've been able to start LR, look at images in the Library, go into Develop and have it display the preview fairly speedily, and so on...  Sliders and stuff weren't appallingly slow.
    TWO DAYS AGO, for no reason that I can find, it suddenly reverted to behavior I used to see.  Still starts fine, still shows thumbnails fine, etc.  BUT, when I go into Develop, it puts up the preview, appears to finish and display the loupe text, THEN it starts the spinning wheel and just hangs there for 20 - 30 seconds saying "Loading".  It doesn't appear to be doing anything new, it's not generating (as far as I know) a 1:1 preview or opening another module, or doing ANYTHING IT DIDN'T DO LAST WEEK.  But, it definitely, consistently hangs for an extended period.  FWIW, when it does this, the background behind the loupe text goes from transparent to black, and it just sits there until it's done "Loading".
    These are Nikon D300, dng files, so nothing large or interesting.  I haven't installed any new software or updates or anything else I know of in the last week.  I checked my cache partition and it's got 58 GB free.  I optimized my catalog yesterday.  I even deleted everything from the cache partition to see if that would matter.  It didn't.  I even rebooted the box just in case there was something else going on.  No difference.
    OH, BTW, once it's done doing this, I can move from image to image in Develop and it NEVER DOES IT AGAIN...  It's only on initial entry.
    I presume there's SOME setting, somewhere in LR that I changed or clobbered or did something to, but I have no idea what it is...  Hopefully the black background on the text will be a clue for someone.
    Anybody have any ideas why I'd get this sudden change in behavior?

    OK, whatever's going on, it's even more bizarre than I thought.......
    I got rid of the agprefs this morning.  Started LR and it didn't make any difference.  BUT, I can repeat the problem easily, so I did some timing........
    Start LR in library - 6 - 8 seconds - library's up, all folders filled in, everything's happy
    Hit "Develop" with a standard D300 .dng file - 5 - 6 seconds for Develop to come up and the "Loading" to disappear
    DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING............
    20 - 22 seconds LATER the text background turns black as does the "not the current process version" exclamation point at the lower right.
    Now everything just sits and spins for 18-20 seconds.  Once done, it's all happy and I can just process normally........
    BTW:  I've REMOVED every lens profile I can find on the box EXCEPT those specifically for my cameras....  At present, I'm only loading (as far as I know) 41 total profiles as opposed to the hundreds that were originally there.......
    To make it even MORE interesting - if DURING that 20 - 22 seconds after "Loading" ends and before it locks up I jump to a different image in Develop it NEVER LOCKS UP while in develop.  I can jump around normally and display any of the images.  BUT, if I do that, as soon as I hit the "Library" button, it locks up, the text background turns black as does the "not the current process version" exclamation point at the lower right and everything just sits and spins for 18-20 seconds.  Once done, it jumps back to the Library module.
    Using the Task Manager, I can see that when I start LR in Library, memory jumps from a total of 2.88 GB to 3.1 GB, so it's not using a lot of memory.
    When I hit Develop it jumps from there to 3.43 GB, so again not a lot of memory.
    Watching the resource monitor, I can see a lot of disk activity at startup, but once the catalog is open it all appears to be in the temp folder...  As near as I can tell, the majority of the reading/writing appears to be in files that start with "etilqs" followed by a bunch of giberish and no file extension.
    When I jump to Develop, I see a surge in disk activity, again mostly in temp, then it settles down and there's essentially nothing happening.
    THEN, about 20 seconds later, when things hang, the resource monitor shows that the Lightroom image is NOT RESPONDING.  I don't see any disk activity in the resource monitor, but since it's "not responding" I'm not sure activity would be displayed.  BUT, I also don't get an activity light on the disk.  So, if there IS disk activity, it's so short the LED isn't lighting long enough for me to see...
    I've emptied every "Temp" folder on the C partition just in case...  Once I shut down Lightroom, I have TWO files in the temp folder.  I'm not sure EITHER has anything to do with Lightroom, and even if they do, I'm not sure what they indicate.  One is "cr_sdk_71165937.tmp" which is "0" bytes.  The other is "FXSAPIDebugLogFile.txt", ALSO with a size of "0" bytes.
    And AGAIN, I've had 4.3RC on for about 3 weeks and the system DID NOT DO THIS PRIOR TO LAST SUNDAY...  My workaround at present is to stay out of Develop until I'm ready to go in with a bunch of images to edit, so it's annoying but not a productivity killer.  But, it'd be really nice to find out what I did that's causing this behavior.

  • What happens when there is a conflict between develop settings stored in file metadata, and the catalog?

    Hello,
    Wondering if someone could quickly help me with understanding how develop settings are read back into lightroom... (I'm using lightroom 3.6) as I've just had a bit of a panic that my mis-understanding of the system might have screwed things up a bit!
    As I do all my image tinkering on a laptop with a small disk, I am often archiving directories of images to an old server we have, and then just bringing them back onto my laptop whenever I need them again. I have a single lightroom catalog on my laptop, and I thought (I now think wrongly!) that all my develop settings updates were stored solely in the lightroom catalog on my laptop, and as long as I kept a copy of the original jpeg images knocking around somewhere so that I could restore them to my laptop when needed, that I could always get back to the most recently edited version of my images. Often I copied a directory of images from the server to the laptop, edited them with lightroom, then deleted the jpg files from the laptop thinking the originals left on the server would be sufficient to restore my work later.
    However recently just before deleting a batch of jpgs from the laptop, I did a quick compare with the server and was horrified to realise that the files where different, and that changes *are* written to the jpeg files! Looking in lightroom I have the 'Include Develop settings in metadata inside JPEG [etc] files' turned on.
    My questions would be:
    1 - Have I lost work by effectively deleting the metadata from the jpeg files or is it also preserved in the catalog?
    2 - What would happen if some develop settings for an image were stored in the catalog, and a completely different set of develop settings were stored in the file - which would take priority?
    3 - Have I screwed up and if so is there anything I can do to minimise the damage? : {
    Many thanks for any advice!!

    1. Lightroom ALWAYS stores the edits in its catalog file.
    2. Lightroom ALWAYS uses the edits in its catalog file. The information stored in the JPG is NEVER used to display the image in Lightroom.
    3. As long as you don't eliminate the photo from the catalog, you are fine, your edits are present in the catalog file and Lightroom will use those to display the image.

    If you have moved the photos to the server, using Lightroom (or using Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders), there's no need to bring them back to your laptop. You can leave the photos on the server, and access them on the server, and everything works properly

  • Develop settings are not saved

    Hello,
    I'm working mainly with jpeg and psd files and trying to save all settings and metadata automatically to be able to use it from other applications (e.g.Bridge). The two catalog options "Include develop settings in metadata..." and "Automatically write changes to XMP" are activated.
    However, Lightroom does not save the modifications that I made in the Develop module. All other metadata changes (ratings, title, IPTC, etc...) are saved and available in other applications. I'm using version 3.3 on 64bit Windows. I'm not 100% sure but as I recall I didn't have this problem with previous versions.
    Is there any solution?
    Thanks!

    It's not clear what you actually expected. Outside of Lr or Camera Raw the only way that an image will be rendered as per your edits is if they had been exported (i.e. newly fully rendered version of JPEG or PSD). Simply saving the setting does nothing other than embed a bunch of metadata.

  • Why do JPEG files with LR Develop settings open in Photoshop Camera Raw?

    Why does an image that has been altered by Lightroom cause the RAW Converter to open when trying to view it in Photoshop. Perhaps this might help; if I import, enhance and convert a RAW image in Lightroom to a jepg image it will open in Photoshop without issue. However if I then alter the jpeg image in Lightroom, update the Metadata and try to view it in Photoshop it cause the Photoshop's RAW Converter to open. Is the alter image's information held in a side car file (xmp) that can'r be read by Photoshop? If so would I need to re-export, (convert), the image again in Lightroom to embedd the changes thus making sure it could be read by all the various programs that are available to view images. As is I send photographs to newspapers and print houses it is important for me to know if they would be receiving fully adjusted images or only the adjustments that were made prior to converting from RAW to jpeg. Just in case...I am new to Lightroom. Thanks in advance for any help.

    When you update the metadata for a JPEG, it is saved internally (there is no sidecar). Any JPEG with Camera Raw develop settings saved in its metadata will open in the Camera Raw plug-in in Photoshop. That is the only way for Photoshop to deal with the Camera Raw settings. Camera Raw settings can be added by the Develop module of Lightroom or from the Camera Raw plug-in dialog in Photoshop or Bridge. To prevent the file from opening in Camera Raw in Photoshop, you have to remove the develop settings and other metadata that ties the file to Camera Raw.
