  • Oracle 10g installation on Windows 7 (32 bit OS)

My Operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit OS), I have downloaded below Oracle 10g version from oracle site.
"Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.3/10.2.0.4) for Microsoft Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7"
    Link - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.html
At the time of installation it is giving OS Compatibility error.
Can anybody tell me, is this the right version? or is there any prerequisite required before installation ?
    Please guide me.

You will need to follow the instructions here - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/relnotes.102/b15680/toc.htm#BABEBBJF
10.2.0.3 and 10.2.0.4 are not certified with Win 7 - you will need to upgrade to 10.2.0.5 - this assumes you have access to My Oracle Support in order to download the patch.

  • Oracle 10g installation in an SPARC 64 bit Solaris 10 server

    Good morning,
I'm trying to install Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition in a server with Solaris 10 as operating system. When I run the oui, the prerequisites part is passed but the installation gives me an error telling that the installer can't write in the /tmp directory. Nevertheless, I have writing grants and space enough in that directory, in fact the installer writes the installAction.log in this directory. So I don't understand which can be the problem?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Mabel

It could be you don't have enough free space on the tmp dir.
    Check this point from the
Oracle® Database Installation Guide. 10g Release 2 (10.2) for Solaris Operating System (SPARC 64-Bit). Part Number B15690-02
If you determined that the /tmp directory has less than 400 MB of free disk space, then identify a file system with at least 400 MB of free space and set the TMP and TMPDIR environment variables to specify a temporary directory on this file system:
    1. Use the df -k command to identify a suitable file system with sufficient free space.
    2. If necessary, enter commands similar to the following to create a temporary directory on the file system that you identified, and set the appropriate permissions on the directory:
    $ su - root
    # mkdir /mount_point/tmp
    # chmod a+wr /mount_point/tmp
    # exit
    3. Enter commands similar to the following to set the TMP and TMPDIR environment variables:
    Bourne, Bash, or Korn shell:
    $ TMP=/mount_point/tmp
    $ TMPDIR=/mount_point/tmp
    $ export TMP TMPDIR
    C shell:
    % setenv TMP /mount_point/tmp
    % setenv TMPDIR /mount_point/tmp

  • Installing Developer 10G on Windows Vista

Hi, sorry for posting this here but I wasn't sure whereelse to put it. Anyway, has anyone been able to install the Developer suite on a Windows Vista machine? I've tried using XP compatibility mode but the command line launcher keeps telling me that it can't install on O/S version 6. I've got the latest version of the Developer suite and can't seem to find any patches. Anyone got any ideas?

Hmm, sorry didn't notice the Installation forum as I was looking at the Developer forums only. Still, I've got it all working including running the forms in IE7.
I did as you said, set the pagefile to manual setting and put something similar to what the system recommended. I ran the Developer suite setup.exe file in compatibility mode and checked the run as administrator option. I then found that Firefox would run the form I created but IE wouldn't. I installed the latest Java (1.6) from the Sun site and then copied/pasted the jvm.dll file from the new install to Program Files\Oracle\Jinitiator 1.3.1.22\bin\hotspot after renaming the original jvm.dll file so's I didn't lose it. Anyway, everything seems to work now and I'm posting this message to orafaq.com where I also put a request for help.
    Ta,
    Phil.

  • SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 Developer Workplace Installation on Windows 7 64-bit

I am trying to install 32 bit version of NW 7.0 SR3 Developer Workplace (Max DB) on Windows 7 64 computer but the installation fails. Has any one tried this?
Is SAP planning to release 64 bit version of Developer Worlplace?
Edited by: Anand Bhambure on Aug 7, 2010 12:44 PM

    Hi Julian,
I assume we are talking about NWDS 70X, because higher NWDS releases are fully supported on win7.
Please note that there is a difference between something is working and whether we can provide support for it.
See the official statement on this in the note:
    #1566977 - NWDS on Windows 7
    which says:
    7.00:
There are successfull installations of NWDS 7.0x running inside and outside of SAP.
Please make sure that the NWDS is running on a supported and correctly configured JDK.
Please acknowledge that while you may successfully install and run NWDS 7.0x on Windows 7 this still is not a supported OS! Running NWDS 7.0x on Windows 7 is at your own risk.
    Best Regards,
    Ervin

Don't know whether you noticed - the problems are around DB Console (Enterprise Manager). It is a pretty powerful piece of software that needs some pretty powerful OS permissions.
What happens if you try the install requesting 'no management console'. (In other words - do not use a 'basic install' and uncheck the 'enterprise manager' selection on the appropriate screen.
If it installs successfully, you can always attempt to add the console later using emca.

  • 10g Installation on Vista:  Hostname = IP address

I am checking out a laptop on which Personal Oracle 10g is installed.
Unfortunately, I cannot log into the db, and checking Windows services, I see that two are not started: OracleDBConsoleorcl and OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener
Attempting to start them returns error messages. Digging further, I see tnsnames files and other places, the database HostName is the IP address to which (I assume) this laptop was using at the time the db was installed. The "Database Control - orcl" startup shortcut even references URL "http://nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn:1158/em" (where the nnn... is the IP address.
Fortunately, I have a working Vista laptop with "Personal Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.3.0" installed and working well. In the good laptop, the hostname is the same as the Windows "computer name."
Searching within C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\ on the bad computer, I find 87 files with that IP address.
    The installActions...log file shows:
*** Specify Local Host Name Page***
'nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn'.  Received the value from the default settings.Should I just uninstall and reinstall the db? I am thinking this would be the easiest route to correcting the trouble. Is there a better solution?
Thanks for any and all help.

    You should do 2 things:
    1) Follow the suggestions under Database Network Topics, especially install a loopback adapter to get a fix IP-Address
    2) Define variable ORACLE_HOSTNAME and set it to your machine's hostname.
There's no need to repeat the whole DB creation process, use 'emca' utility to recreate Database Control only.

Cause: User has insufficient privileges to perform the requested operation.
Action: Acquire necessary privileges and try again.
BUT: I cannot understand the solution, Can you help me solve it??????

    Thank you for your response,,
I actually use the version 10.1 which is not supported by win7, as you said before...
Now I am ok., the DB installation (10.2) is succeeded, but I installed Oracle forms builder 10.1, and when I tried to connect the form with the database, it requested from me to enter database name, I cannot know the exact name, Is there a way to find it?? (the error: ORA-12154)
Please reply as soon as possible,,
    Thank you very much,,
TasneemWhat do you mean " I cannot know the exact name". You created it, didn't you?

IF your upgrading from 32 to 64 then you have to do a clean install. So backup your files because the install will erase everything.

    Hi,
You can try to as following:
    Run "xhost +" login as root user;
    2,export DISPLAY="127.0.0.1:0.0"
    Regards
    TerryWell I tried that.
Here's what I did as root:
    [root@adsl-70-131-46-217 ~]$ hostname

    [root@adsl-70-131-46-217 ~]$ xhost + adsl-70-131-46-217.dsl.emhril.sbcglobal.net
This is what I did as oracle:
    [oracle@adsl-70-131-46-217 ~]$ export DISPLAY="127.0.0.1:0.0"
    This is my error:

My friend, I believe you created a mess by Installing Oracle 10g Enterprise with your DHCP enable in Windows.
There are only 2 options if you want to install Oracle 10g Enterprise on Windows.
    1. You install it using Static IP or not connected to network
    2. You install Microsoft Loopback, it is a virtual Network driver and this should be assigned as your primary Network driver instead of your current Network.
So if you don't want any headache, the easiest way is uninstall your Oracle 10g, disable the DHCP and use static instead, then install again. that will work for sure.
Don't try to play with the listener and everything because you will get into deeper and deeper problem that end up into frustration :(

According to metalink Note:414574.1 Developer Suite 10g R2 is not certified on Vista and there are no plans to certify it.
But for the client certification it is certified with some combinations if JRE and IE7, you might want to check the [url http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/10gR2/clientsod_forms10gR2.html]Client Platform SOD 10g R2 for more information.

    Hello Friends,
I have been unable to download the patch for developer 10g forms as I am not a metalink registered user. But I have downloaded other browsers such as firefox2 and netscape 9.0.0.6. I am trying to run my forms 10g rel2 with these browsers. But on netscape it says Java is not enabled, even though I have enabled Java. And it shows me a grey page. On firefox 2, it says 'click here to download plugin'. After you click on it, it says 'No suitable plugins were found', 'Unknown plugin(application x/jinit-applet; version 1.3.1.22) and a text box is beside it labelled 'Manual Install'. When you click on this manual install button, it takes me to this page :
    http://ajayia-pc:8889/forms/jinitiator/us/jinit_download.htm.
Please can anyone help with advice as to what direction to go. I am stuck with my installation. I am using Windows Vista Operating System.
    Many Thanks.
    Cheers

Please note that Developer Suite 10R2 is NOT certified(cannot be installed) for Windows 7 64-bit.

11gR2(11.1.2 version) is certified and can be installed on Windows 7 64-bit
Also IE9 is not certified with 10gR2.Check:
