Developer 2000 on Oracle 9i Database

I have heard that Developer 2000 cannot work with Oracle 9i Database, is it true?
Does anyone work with this combination? Does it work well?
If there are some problems, what are they?
Thanks.

Hi,
it does work well.
I have not try Designer from Developer 2000 with Ora9i, but Forms and Reports does work very well.
Where have you heard that this combination does not work?

  • Install developer 2000 on oracle 9i

i have installed oracle 9i personal edition on my windows 2000 pc. however when i install developer 2000(forms 5) i am not able to access oracle database from developer and oracle 9i also does not give me access. i have installed oracle and developer 2000 on different folders.

    I had the similar problem.
You have to copy the tnsnames.ora from ORACLE9i/network/admin to FORMS5/network/admin.
It seems to be a problem with the PATH-variable.
So WIN2k find the SQLPLUS in FORMS5 first and could not resolve the servicename.

  • Problems on connecting Developer/2000 with Oracle

    1. Can Developer/2000 for window95/NT release 2.0 connect with Personal Oracle8i for Windows 98 under Windows 98 environment?
    2. Can Developer/2000 for window95/NT release 2.0 connect with Personal Oracle7.3 for Windows 95 under Windows 98 environment?
    3. What is the default database name of Personal Oracle8i for Windows 98?

If you get an error message with a number, did you try looking for this number in the oracle errors book (online on OTN? just click search).
Developer/2000 is quite old, better get the newer versions from otn.oracle.com.

    Hello Kalyan,
    A couple questions:
    1. Once you installed the 11G database, you did start the database services, yes?
    2. Do you have a properly configured TNSNAMES.ORA file that points to your database?
    3. You created a database that you are using and can access the database via SQLPlus?
    Don.

  • Developer 2000 - Server Install - Client Install

I have Developer 2000 and Oracle database 7.2.3 running on the same HP AlphaServer. I'd like to separate the database from the application and move the database to a separate machine. Is that just a case of installing the database elsewhere and configuring SQL*Net, or would I need to reinstall the Developer 2000 software as a client install on the AlphaServer too?

    Hi Christian,
Developer 6i and Developer 2000 are quite separate releases of the same
product and therefore must be in separate homes.
The Oracle 8i Client should also be in a separate home to these two.
If you are referring to Designer 6i, then you can install Designer and
Developer into the same Oracle Home (as they work closely together), but
they MUST be the same release, e.g.:
    - Designer 6i and Developer 6i
    - Developer 2000 and Designer 2000
We strongly recommend you do NOT mix releases in the same home, such as
Designer 6i and Developer 2000, as you will have problems getting both
products to work (they are essentially incompatible).

  • Download between Oracle 9i Database and Oracle 9i DS

I have download the files for Windows 2000.
    Oracle 9i Database version 9.0.2.1
    Oracle 9i DS version 9.0.2
    Download Date: June 7, 2002
These from what I can tell are the lates versions on the website. I installed the database and everything went in fine. I can work with the database and everything. When I use the Universal Installer for Oracle 9i DS, I get an error when it hits 31% that states that this version of DS will not work with a database that is of version 9.0.2.1 or greater.
If anyone can help me it would be a great help,
    Greg

    Hi,
Your question is the answer. Oracle9i Database manages all your eBusiness data and Oracle9iAS runs all your eBusiness
applications. In a 3 tier architecture, Oracle9i Database fits in the Database tier where as Oracle9iAS fits in the middle
tier. Oracle9iAS provides an infrastructure to run different types of applications(J2EE thru OC4J, Forms applns, Portal
    based applns, Wireless applns etc..)
    Cheers !

Can any one brief in detail the difference between Oracle 9i database and 9ias application server.

  • Developer 2000/6i

    Hi,
Im a novice to Oracle 9iDS, Im very confused with the different versions of developer.
I would like to know whats the difference between oracle developer 2000 and oracle developer 6i.
Also whats the difference between oracle designer 2000 and oracle designer 6i.

The main difference between the 2000 versions and the 6i versions is that the 6i versions also give you the capability of web enabling your forms and reports.
Initially all oracle tools were available separate. From 6i onwards Oracle introduced the Developer Suite concept which bundles various versions of all related tools.
9i DS is the latest Internet Development Suite which has around 8-10 tools bundled together (Forms, Reports, Designer, Discoverer, JDeveloper etc). With 9i however you are forced to shift to a 3 tier web architecture as you can no longer have client/server forms or reports.

  • Developer 2000 forms for95/NT won't link my oracle 8i for 98 database, Y?

    hello world,
It is better to create a sequence of primary keys on a table for
eventually use for building forms and does it really not matter.
Secondly, i have oracle8i Personal edition installed in my
orahome8i area and also did managed to install Developer 2000
in this same home area but would not run.
As I could notice, does it really matter if I have installed
developer 2000 with an older version of SQLplus and whenever i
try to log into my 8i database, it comes up with a TNS bla bla
    bla not found.
How do i go about getting my Developer 2000 for win95/NT to hook
up to an entirely differently installed oracle 8i for win98
    database.
I have tried removing the key from the registry and deleting
some bits of my autoexec.bat file but still to no avail.
Will i be able to download a compatible version or is it just
    about me.
    much appreciation.
    Ayo show

My guess would be that you still have some remnants of your old "personal" installation, and your new Enterprise installation of 9i is finding the DLL from the old installation.
Make sure you un-install the old Oracle installation first, and delete all oracle directories for good measure.

  • How to connect the local database of Pesonal Oracle From FormBuilder of develope 2000

I installed developer 2000 with personal Oracle in win95. I opened Oracle Form builder and click connect submenu of File. It prompts for user name, password and Database. I added scott/tiger for user name and password and I do not know what I should add into the database item. I tried to add oracle or Local Database to the database item, but it did not work. I also tried to use system/manager/oracle, but it still did not work.
Please tell me what should I add to the database item.
    Thanks

You can use the "Oracle Net 8 assistant", "Oracle Net 8 Easy config" to see if you have the appropriate entry to the server in the local tnsnames.ora file (find it!). I mean that one in the Forms&Reports home, not that one in the Oracle_Home.
Under local I mean the file tnsnames.ora in your application, not at the Oracle Server - this is a common mistake.
You have to have there an entry like:
    REKS816.RILA.us =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = bigbluenew.rila.us)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = REKS816)
It is a bad practice, but you can add such entry using simple text editor. But before that make a copy of tnsnames.ora in order to restore it if you do not succeed.
After that go to "control panel" and run "services".
Look at your Oracle_Home_TNSlistener80 process. Stop it! Start it again!
If you work on Unix find the relevant processes and notions of the Unix OS.

  • Connecting oracle dev 2000 forms to oracle 9i database on another server

we have these oracle developer 2000 forms (in .fmx format) in a server and the data of these forms in another server.... the server with the data is very old and is very slow...so we decided to relocate the database(oracle 9i) to a new server..... also, we move the developer 2000 forms from the old server to another server which will serve as the front end to the new data server.
The problem is we can't figure out how to make the developer 2000 forms on the new front end server to point to the new database on the new data server. I would really appreciate if u cud gimme some advice on this... so we need to know how the forms find the data, where this "connection string" is for developer 2000 forms.

You have to create a Net Service from "Net Configuration Assistant". Or you can copy TNSNAMES.ora file from your old server to new server. You can find TNSNAMES.ora file in developer_suite_Home/Network/admin folder.

  • Oracle 10.2.0.3 with Developer 2000 (Form/Report 6i)

    Hi Experts
we are using Oracle 9i database and Developer 2000(6i) Last few years. Now I want to replace 9i database with Oracle 10.2.0.3 , in this scenario can Oracle database 10.2 will work with 6i form/report.
what I did. I installed Oracle 10g (10.2) and Developer 2000(6i) on Windows XP and restored data backup. on this machine software working. Now I want to ask how can I run this software on Clients (Windows XP).
My past practice was I used to installed oracle 9i database client with Developer 2000.
now in current scenario what Should I do. because there is no any client installation available on Oracle database 10.2.
how to manage connection client with server (windows Xp).

now in current scenario what Should I do. because there is no any client installation available on Oracle database 10.2.Well First ORACLE 10g Database will work with developer 2000 , But to get oracle client software you have to Raise SR On http://support.oracle.com
    Otherwise
You need to upgrade to 11.2.0.2 as i think its not supported with developer 2000 , So you have to upgrade the whole Environment Forms/reports 10g and Database 11g

I think if you follow the steps you can connect --
    1. First check whehter TCP/IP has been installed and
you can connect using the protocol. You can do this
using simple command like ping. So on the DOS command
    prompt type following--
    ping 127.0.0.1 and enter.
This will give you a series of messages and in the end
OK. If you get OK in the end that means TCP/IP is
    properly working.
    2. Then configure the tnsnames.ora for the database sid you have
chosen. You can do it through SQL Net Easy configuration.
Configure it for TCP/IP and remember the sid name e.g. ORCL.
    3. Go to DOS prompt and change the directory to your
ORACLE_HOME. Start the database giving command
    svrmgr30 (enter)
    4. It will give you prompt as SVRMGR. Type follwing
    connect internal; (enter)
It should show message as connected. Then quit out of server
    manager.
    5. You are now again on to DOS prompt. Type the following
    lsnrctl80 start (enter)
It will give the message as Listener Started Successfully.
    6. Now minimize the Dos window and start Forms application.
While connecting type username, password and database name also.
    e.g. scott, tiger, ORCL.
It should get connected. Because I followed the same procedure
and now I am working suceessfully on it.
