Developer 6 on win2000

I have Developer 6 and its patch6A for Windows NT. I installed both in Windows 2000
server. When I executed the forms, the layout alignment get changed. These forms
are developed in Windows NT.
Is there any way to restore the forms settings of Windows NT, or else I have to change the each column, canvas width.
Could anyone please help me to solve this
problem.
Tnanks in advance.
ps.ramanathan

I have developed a Forms 6 Application on Windows platform and it works well on Windows 95/98 , NT Works Station and Windows 2000 Server without any modifications to any programs. Windows 2000 is built with NT Technology.
In u r case there could be some other problem. Please check the Desktop Display Properties - Settings - Desktop Area. It must be 800X600 pixels.
Hope this helps.

  • Oracle 8i vs SQL Server 7 or 2000

Can anybody provide a link or information about what is the best choice to choosing Oracle 8i or SQL Server? I want a technical answer not based on market share or bias.
I have been an oracle DBA and developer for 5 years. Reading up on SQL Server,it seems very powerful as well as Very cost effective compared to Oracle 70% cheaper in some cases.
I am currently researching the back end and front end tools needed for a internal Application system:
    20Gig Minimum sized database
    80-100 Simultaneous Users
    Database server on NT4.0/2000
Any information would be very helpful
    Please email to [email protected]
    and/or post info.
    Thanks

To balance the equation a little bit:
well, here goes the technical difference between sql svr and oracle8i db server:
    1. SQL Server has much more rich, intuitive development tools. I find the Oracle tools a bit antiquated and clunky.
    2. "control file management is there in oracle. >> BUT NOT IN SQLSVR." Never had the need to "manage files" from the DB, so I'm not sure of the point here.
    3. You can manage partitions in SQL Server.
    4. Oracle is tied to Java whereas SQL Server is more VB friendly and has JScript support.
    5. SQL Server built extensions to TSQL (like PL/SQL) to support direct return of XML in a very simple manner. I'm still swinning through
    6. "Operating System authentication is there in oracle. BUT NOT IN SQLSVR." This is just plain wrong. You can authenticate at the OS or DB level in SQLServer.
    7. SQL Server does replication including merge replication.
    8. Building data warehouses, mining, datamart, MTS, DSS, OLTP is heavily supported in SQL Server.
    9. SQL Server introduced the self-tuning database making the administration very simple.
    10. SQL Server supports clustering, warmbackups, etc.
    11. I can show you several ways to backup/restore and all are very fast.
    12. SQLServer2000 has all of the development features of Oracle (and then some) for a fraction of the cost.
    13. Oracle's high-end features are better and more complete, and it works on more platforms.
My choice as a developer in a Win2000/NT type environment is SQL Server hands down. Big companies with lots of data have a tougher choice. I think Oracle is more "big iron" and high-end admin friendly, and SQL Server is more developer, self-maintaining, and pocketbook friendly. I depends upon what's important to you.
ALL ABOVE INFORMATION IS BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE WITH SQL SERVER FROM 1996 TO PRESENT.

    Hi all,
I developed several applications using Batik to generate SVG-s. My
development environment is Win2000 and everything ran perfectly, I generated
lots of nice charts etc. But when I deployed my module to the real server
which is RedHat Linux 2.2.14-5.0smp and I tried to run the thing look what I
    got:
Exception: java.lang.InternalError: Can't connect to X11 window server
using ':0.0' as the value of the DISPLAY variable.[snip]
    Hi Rossen:
AWT requires X even if you are not using the display. I believe that
this dependency may have been removed in JDK 1.4, but in the meantime
this is a known limitation. If you set your DISPLAY environment
variable correctly and have permission to connect to the X server
    things should run fine.
Admittedly this can be inconvenient in a server-side environment.
There are some workarounds including using a "virtual" X server, you
may wish to check the batik-users archives as this topic comes up
    frequently.

  • ActiveX control registration problem

    Hello all,
I have an application that uses Microsoft's "Date & Time Picker" control which is located in MSCOMCT2.OCX. My development platform was Win2000 with Office 2000 and VC++6.0 installed. When I tried to register this OCX file (using "regsvr32 MSCOMCT2.OCX") on another Win2000 machine (but has Office 97, no Visual C++) I received no error, and the control appears on the ActiveX pick list, but the container remains empty. Further, when I tried to add the control to a MS-Access 97 form (essentially a VB form), I got the error message "OLE Server isn't registered". This gave me a hint that the regsvr32 actually didn't work, but I have no idea why not. Is this telling me that MSCOMCT2.OCX is not redistributable? I searched Mic
rosoft's website for a couple hours and didn't find anything that said I couldn't redistribute this OCX file. What gives?

Yes, I've discovered that there are ".DEP" or dependancy files that go along with these OCXs. In the MSCOMCT2.DEP we find that it "Uses1=ComCat.dll". I've verified that this exists. No joy.
Also, I discovered in the MSDN library that after Visual Basic 5.X the controls within COMCTL32.OCX and COMCT232.OCX were updated by MSCOMCTL.OCX and MSCOMCT2.OCX respectively. On my machine that works, all 4 files seem to be registered. I ensured that all 4 files were also registered on the target machine, just in case they were somehow "linked". Still no joy.

    ・SELECT  項目1,  項目2,  項目3
    FROM  A  LEFT  OUTER  JOIN  B  ON  A.項目1  =  B.項目1
    ・SELECT  項目1,  項目2,  項目3

  • Installation Problem Developer 6i/Oracle 8/Windows NT4 Please help.

    Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle Developer 6i and Oracle 8
under Windows NT platform. I had several kind of problem. Atlast
I found the installation tips very help and followed it step by
step. Still I am facing the problem. Let me explain what i did,
    step by step,
1.downloaded the Oracle forms self extract file. Unzipped. Ran
    the Setup.exe.
2.This prepared for Oracle Developer installation. I selected
default path and home(d:\ORANT and home_Default). Selected
    oracle forms and installed it.
    3.Repeated step 2 to install reports 6i.
    4.Restarted the system.
    5.Created another directory d:\orantnew
6.Used the Oracle 8 CD and installed using the Autorun.Selected
different path and oracle Home this time.(D:\orantnew and
    home_New).
    7. Selected the Oracle Enterprise Edition option and did the
    installation.Rebooted the system.
    8. Did the TCP/IP changes explained in the Step (5) and Step (6)
    given below in Mr.Krishna's reply.
    9. Tried to start the listner by following Step (7) the listener
    won't start.
    10. Went ahead and copied the TNSNAMES.
Connected to SQL*Plus using Start/Program/Oracle-OracntNew using
    SCOTT/TIGER and connect went thru.
Then tried "CONNECT" from form builder, won't connect. I think
the error message was some thing related to TNS..(Since I have
uninstalled all the Oracle components now i can't give the exact
error.Sorry). I would like to know if there is anything I am
doing wrong or missing out something.
Note : While uninstalling the oracle components i had problem
removing the bin directory. So I had to stop some of the
    services
    (OracleServiceORC1 and OracleStartORC1 from
start/controlpanel/services option) in order to delete the
    oracle components.
Please someone let me know how can I install Oracle 8 and Oracle
    Developer 6i,in windows NT platform.
Incase if i am doing anything wrong in the above given step or
missing out something pl let me know.
    Thanks.

Hi, >Try these steps, but you need to change a few things for Win2000 even I am trying, but Listener does'nt start there is a
problem I am looking into it, If you find the solution pl let me
know, these work fine on Win95/98 I have tried and they all work
    fine.>-------------------------------------------->Installing

combinations may or may not work.> If you want to install
designer as well, do it now.
** Clean all Oracles off the computer using the following instructions. (Windows 95 and
    Windows 98)
    1. In regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE.
    2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ORACLE
    3. Delete the ORACLE key.
    4. Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC pertaining to Oracle.
    5. Delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ODBC pertaining to Oracle.
    6. Edit your AUTOEXE.BAT file and remove your %ORACLE_HOME%\bin and JRE paths from the path settings.
    7. From the Windows Explorer (or from the command prompt), delete the Oracle Directory
    (Oracle Base).
    8. Delete < System_Drive > C:\Program Files\Oracle (from the Windows NT Explorer or from the command
    prompt).
    9. Delete Icons from < System_Drive> C:\Windows\StartMenu\Programs\Oracle - <HOME> and <System_Drive>
    C:\Windows\StartMenu\Oracle Installation Products. Where<HOME>
    is the previous HOME name.
    10. Reboot the system.
    Installing Developer 6i(Forms and Reports)
    1. Download the file from OTN site or Install from the CD. Install the installer. It will go
into a new default Oracle home that it will create. When you go
to install your Developer CD, close the installer that comes up
with the CD autorun. Go to the programs menu and Oracle for
Windows 95 and click on the installer there. Once it is open,
browse to the CD you wish to install. (installr/install/us)
    2. Start installer. Install Developer 6i first to default directory, Orawin95 How? Start installer, follow the prompts
that appear on the screen, you may have to do this twice, once
for Oracle Forms and once for Oracle Reports, after the
installation is successful reboot the system.
    3. If you want to install Designer 6 as well, do it now. (But I have not installed
the Designer ) Designer has to be installed before PO 8. 1. 6,
because PO816 can detect only one Oracle_home.
    4. Create a new folder on your root directory called Orawin98. Start the installer set-up from where you downloaded it and
select Orawin98 to install it in this time. You also need to
give this second home a name whatever you want, but through out
the process, you have to use the identical name, that is
critical. Orawin98 indicates this name in these instructions. Do
not reboot. Install Oracle 8.1.6 to the directory Orawin98 using
    the installer. Reboot the system.
    5. Go to Start/Setting/Control Panel/Network, if you do not have TCP/IP installed, install it
now, if you do, highlight TCP/IP, click properties. Select DNS
tab, select enable DNS, at the host area, type "Orawin98", leave
domain empty. Go to Identification Tab and enter your database
name, in this case BBM. Reboot the system after you finish.
    6. Configure your database listener. Go to Start/Programs/Oracle- Orawin98/Network Admistration/Net8
    Assistant, a window will pop
up, at the window expand Local and expand Listeners and double
click it, you will see a new window, go through all the tab
menus. At location address 1, Host name: use "Orawin98", Port
use: 1521 (default). And at location address 2, Host name:
use "Orawin98", Port use: 2481, go to the file/ save, close Net8
    Assistant.
    7. Start listener how? Go to Dos Window, type LSNRCTL, return, at LSNRCTL>, type Start. Listener should start
successfully, if not, you need to go back to Net8 Assistant to
    check configuration.
    8. Copy file "TNSNAMES" in directory C:\Orawin98\Net80\Admin to C:\oraein95\Net80\Admin.
    9. You are finished.
    10. To connect Forms/Reports/SQLPLUS to database - First start the
Listener, then start the database. Next, go to File menu in
Forms/Reports and select Connect. Type in user name and password
(system/manager or whatever) in this case it is SCOTT/TIGER and
the database name is your "DATABASENAME". When you want to quit
you need to exit from file menu of Forms/Reports, then you need
to stop Listener and then shut down database.
    11. You can rename your computer name in your original name. (for local networks)
Let me know if it is working.>null

Install Forms in one directory (You can have reports in the same
    directory).
Install oracle DB in another directory.
Don't change any file and reboot.
The listener will start automatically as a service.
(If not from a command line write "lsnrctl start" to start it).
To connect from forms/report to the DB you need to activate the
sqlnet easy config tool from the directory where forms is.
Follow the wizard to define an entry in the tnsnames.ora file
    automatically.
Then you can use your forms with the DB.
(IF you get problems it usually helps to let us know the error
code you get so we can direct you in the correct direction).

  • Oracle 9i lite application development using java

    hi all,
I want to develop a applcation which interacts with the 9i lite database in java.Is there any emulator which will help me in developing this on a windows 2000 machine or winnt machine?
i tried developing it in eVB but the emulator which come along with it does not support the 'oladoce' object..
please if anybody has done something on this please help .. this is very urgent..
    thanks ..,
    sreekanth sreedharan

Oracle 9i Lite is a multi-platform product and you need to specific the target OS for the database and the version of java.
If you are planning to run your application in Win2000 you will have no problem using Oracle 9i Lite with the supplied
jdbc drivers and any java development environment for J2SE. What you get is a laptop platform that works while not
    connected to the Internet
If you are trying to using Oracle 9i Lite on the Palm with J2ME development on windows, it works fine with the Palm Emulator
but I am not sure that the jdbc drivers are available for J2ME yet and I have not used them as I have for J2SE on windows
I am also very interested in developing java applications for the palm using Oracle 9i Lite and I would appreciate feedback
on the jdbc and other required sql extensions for the sun java cldc
If you are talking about the PocketPC or other WinCE, I cannot help you but I have used Personal Java on WinCE but not yet
attempted Oracle 9i Lite on those platforms

  • Which library file contains all the registered application in win98/win2000

    Hi:
Can anyone tell me which file contains all the registered application signature in win98/win200. I am using java to develop an application to open a file in windows system according to the file's extension. For instance, to open a file abc.doc use winword, to open a file abc.xls use excel etc. I know that there's a library file contains all these info., what's the file name, how can i use it. (ie. use what method call to get the associated application name/path according to the file extension).
    Thanks very much in advance.

    Hi there:
can anyone help with this question, I did try to use the syntax of Runtime.getRuntime().exec("start abc.txt"), but some computers works, others don't. they are all running win2000, did I miss something on the system setting, many thanks in advance.
another question is I want to display the file using different icon according to their type, is there any way to get the icon info. of the registered application from windows registry?

  • Problems starting reports service on win2000

    Hi,
I am getting an error whenever I try to start the reports service on win2000. I have tried changing my tnsnames (all of them) to add:
    Rep60_SCHALLIG.WORLD =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)
    (HOST = schallig)
    (PORT=1949)
    #following line already existed
    REP60_SCHALLIG.WORLD = Rep60_SCHALLIG.WORLD
But it still seams to give me the same error. I have also tried changing the portnumber.
Originally, I installed 9iasEE and forms server worked. Then I installed forms developer (in a different home) and reports server does not work!
To make things even more interesting, 9iAS http server and forms server run fine....
    Thanks in advance...

Windows could not start Oracle Report Sever on "Local Machine".... return service-specific error code 186.
This is 100% about tnsnames.ora. May be you have more then one tnsnames.ora on your machine. For example one for Developer2000 and one for Oracle816.
    1) You have to set TNS_ADMIN in registry
    2) If previous doesn't work then check tnsnames.ora file for the Reports server description. May be servername is worng. It hase to be the same as your NT Service name for reports server. For example if in NT services you see
Oracle Reports Server [WebRep] then in tnsnames.ora you have to see
    WebRep,WebRep.world=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=your_host_name)(PORT=1949))
Check also if in sqlnet.ora you use DEFAULT_DOMAIN=WORLD
    Hope this will help you.

  • Can I create 6i designer/developer tables on local 9i database

I recently installed a new 6i developer on a P4 xp pro system. The 8i database wasn't installed, but a lot of 8i files were. When I tried the same install on my home Win2000 system a fully populated 8i database was installed.
On the xp system I have a 9i personal Oracle database. Can I install the 6i designer/developer scripts on the 9i database or do I have to create an 8i database? Are there any pitfalls?
I have recieved conflicting opinions on this. I am hoping someone can confirm this - one way or the other. If possible, could you refer me to a document on how to do this.
    Thanks

Sorry, the documentation included with the developer software has dates of 2001. I just found the newer Nov 2003 docs on the web.

  • Oracle Developer and Windows XP

I am a student at the University of Phoenix, currently enrolled
in an Oracle class. My book came with Personal Oracle 8i and
Developer 6 for Windows 98. Unfortunatelly, my a new system runs
WinXP Home and not Windows 98.
I first installed the provided Developer and used the default
home (ORANT), then I downloaded Personal Oracle 8i 1.7 for
Win2000, but the install told me I could not use ORANT as the
home. I installed to a new directory called ORAXP.
My problem is that although Personal Oracle works great (I can
connect to my database through SQLPlus), my Developer products
won't (i.e. Procedure Builder) connect to my database. I get the
following error while attempting to connect:
    PDE-POC011 ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name
    (Additional error: depoc 4)
What is my problem? Do I need to modify the TNSNAMES.ora on
ORANT so that it knows about the database created on ORAXP? Will
I have more issues because I have two Oracle homes?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    - 1 In the first try yo modify your sqlnet.ora and your
    TNSNAMESOR, (save all modifications)
    - 2 Second: Start the Oracle services: ...TNSLISTNER and
OracleserviceSID. Whre SID is the name of your Oracle database.
    - 3 Try to connect with SQL*PLUS.
    Exemple: SQLNET.ORA
    TRACE_LEVEL_CLIENT = OFF
    #sqlnet.authentication_services = (NONE)
    names.directory_path = (TNSNAMES, HOSTNAME)
    names.default_domain = world
    name.default_zone = world
    automatic_ipc = off
    Exemple: TNSNAMES.ORA
    # TNSNAMES.ORA Network Configuration File: D:\Oracle\Ora81
    \network\admin\tnsnames.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
