Oracle Universal Installer gives a fatal error
Hello,
When I start the Oracle Universal Installer to install the Oracle Developer Suite (10.1.2.0.2) I get a Microsoft Fault Report, so the installation will abort.
I had removed first the Oracle installation via the same wizard and then clean up my registry.Ok, I have found the problem: The installer can't write to c:\documents and settings\pieter\local settings\temp\...
The error is like this: "error in writing to c:\documents and settings\..."
Many users that install Oracle have this error (check google) but I can't find a solution :(
Anyone? -

Installer build: When run, error: Windows can't open this file xyz.vi
Hello all, I've taken my vi. I"ve created it as an executable. I've taken that...and made an Installer project... This is with LV 2011, and installing to Win7. The installer seems to work fine...but when I try to run the application from the start menu, I get a windows error, saying it doesn't know what to do with my file xyz.vi...that it needs to know what application to open it with....? Any ideas what to do here? The installer seems to install the NI runtime engine just fine...? Would this be due to, on the Installer builder...setting the vi to be read-only and hidden? When I'd done this a previous time, I believe it all worked then... Suggestions? Thank you, cayenne
Attachments:
screen_shot_windows_error.jpg 35 KBPlease disregard...I found the problem after going through the older working one....
Late nights and working two jobs...you start to overlook things.
FOr the dependency, I'd put the vi instead of the exe of the vi.....that did the trick.
Thanks all,

ExportAsDrag() Bug in Suse linux???
Hey there,
i have a problem using the exportAsDrag() method of a Transferhandler. On Windows the following code works fine, On Suse Linux, something seem to go completely wrong. What i want to do is to make a drag and drop mechanism. When i click on a label (represented by the following code) the referenced JPanel should be exportet as Dragsource.
private MinimizedPanel(String text, Icon icon, final JPanel mainPanel)
super(text);
this.setIcon(icon);
this.addMouseListener(new MouseAdapter()
public void mousePressed(MouseEvent e)
TransferHandler handler = mainPanel.getTransferHandler();
handler.exportAsDrag(mainPanel, e,
TransferHandler.COPY_OR_MOVE);
}The Transferhandler of the mainPanel is initialized like this:
new Transferhandler("myself");Like already mentioned on Windows everything works fine. But on Linux it seems that the exportAsDrag() method crashes inside, because i cannot drop the mainPanel anywhere, even noone recognized that there is something to drop, and if i try to do drag it a second time, nothing works anymore, even the cursor doesnt change to the drag cursor. The worst thing is that i dont get any exception message... :-(
Does anybody have any idea why this doesnt work on linux???
Thanks a lot. If you need more information just ask.
GreetingsYou find all (including Linux) installation guides here:

Error when Installing Oracle XE on Suse Linux 10.0
I am installing Oracle xe on Suse Linux 10.0.

GeorgeI found another thread in this forum where you can look up how to extend your swap space (look at the bottom of that thread):
re:Out of swap space during 9iAS install.
I am very new to Linux, I am very much disappointed,
I installed Linux with lots of hopes that I can
Install Oracle tools easily on Linux and work
comfortably. Now If I cannot intall a small database
Oracle XE, even with 1GB Ram and 25GB harddrive on
Linux, I don't realize why people run for Linux.
I could Oracle XE on windows on a machine with 512
mb ram in 4 minutes.Maybe you should take into consideration that you are not so "new" to windows and that each new system has a learning curve.
Someone please help.. in detail. How to resize the
swap partition at this point.Look in the provided link.
I have very limitted or no knowldge in Linux.Maybe you should change that or stay with what you know. I don't see any other way ...
As a sidenote, each command under Linux does have a so called "man" page (from manual). You also need to open a shell to access those commands as shown in the thread.
And please, take a look at the commands in that thread before you start implementing, since for example the dd command seems only to create a file with a size of 512M.
Knowing how to use a search engine would also be a valuable asset in your current position.

this error simply comes, because the architecture of your computer is not the same as the one from the test drive. As I'm not sure, which architecture the N4S test drive uses, we simply have one of the following situations here. Either
your machine is x86_64 and the N4S is i386 or
your machine is i386 and the N4S is x86_64.
Please check!

I am starting the Oracle 10g Installation within orasm7 User which is a member of dba, users, disk groups.
The directories which are created upon starting the Oracle Installation in /tmp directory are having the situations as followed:
drwxr-xr-x 3 orasm7 dba 128 2009-04-21 18:41 OraInstall2009-04-21_06-41-14PM
drwxr-xr-x 3 orasm7 dba 128 2009-04-21 18:41 OraInstall2009-04-21_06-41-25PM
drwxr-xr-x 3 orasm7 dba 128 2009-04-22 15:59 OraInstall2009-04-22_03-59-38PM
The Oracle Installation log is as follwoed:
Using paramFile: /home/MyData/51031676/database/install/oraparam.ini
Checking installer requirements...
Checking operating system version: must be redhat-3, SuSE-9, redhat-4, UnitedLinux-1.0, asianux-1, asianux-2 or SuSE-10
Passed
All installer requirements met.
The commandline for unzip:
/home/MyData/51031676/database/install/unzip -qqq ../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.4.2.0.8
/1/DataFiles/\*.jar -d /tmp/OraInstall2009-04-22_03-59-38PM
I have set DISPLAY variable in this way before starting Installation:
DISPLAY=$HOSTNAME:0.0
export DISPLAY
I tried to search the solution over the internet for this kind of problem, but i am not able to find its solution. Even i tried to start the Orale installation using this parameter: ./runInstaller ignoreSysPrereqs, but still it is giving the same unexpected error.
I have a doubt on File/Directory permissions which are created for Installation in /tmp. The umask setiing of the system is 0022.
Please, help me for this issue.
Thanks & Regards,
Bhavik G. ShroffHi Markus,
How are you ?
Thank you very much for your reply.
I was executing wrong runInstaller file. RUNINSTALLER is right file for starting the execution. But still i am facing the same error, which is as followed.
