Developer version of Oracle 10g

Our shop is new to Oracle and I wanted to know if there was a free (lite) version I could load onto my laptop?

Depending on your requirements, Oracle 10g Express Edition might be the solution for you:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/xe/index.html
This is Oracle's free database software but there are limitation such as 4 gig max tablespace.
Also if you are developing software, you are can use the other editions (Enterprise, Standard, etc) with a development license upto prototype stage. These are also free for educational purposes.
The best solution would probably call Oracle Sales and ask what the best solution is for your requirements.

  • Can I run 32 bit version of Oracle 10g grid  on Linux x86-64?

    Since Oracle did not release 64 bit version of Oracle 10g grid for Linux X86-64. Can I run 32 bit version of Oracle 10g grid on Linux x86-64? If so did anyone tried this? and also any known issues?

    All I had to do was use the 32bit version of "/usr/bin/gcc" and "/usr/bin/g++" to run the installation
    That is:
    bin]# cp -p /usr/bin/gcc /usr/bin/gcc_old
    bin]# mv /usr/bin/gcc /usr/bin/gcc323
    mv: overwrite `/usr/bin/gcc323'? y
    bin]# ln -s /usr/bin/gcc296 /usr/bin/gcc
    bin]# cp -p /usr/bin/g++ /usr/bin/g++_old
    bin]# mv /usr/bin/g++ /usr/bin/g++323
    mv: overwrite `/usr/bin/g++323'? y
    bin]# ln -s /usr/bin/g++296 /usr/bin/g++
    AFTER INSTALLATION REMEMBER TO
    move back the 64bit files to their former state.
    bin]#rm /usr/bin/g++
    bin]#rm /usr/bin/gcc
    bin]#mv /usr/bin/gcc_old /usr/bin/gcc
    bin]#mv /usr/bin/g++_old /usr/bin/g++

  • Our Java application is built with java 1.4 version and oracle 10g

    Our Java application is built with java 1.4 version and oracle 10g version database, is it possible to upgrade oracle database to 11g?

    is it possible to upgrade
    Yes. SE and the other editions have a migration/upgrade utility, not seeing any mention of that program in the XE license docs. To upgrade to 11gR2 from 10g, the 10g instance must be at patch 10.2.0.2 or higher.
    So if you're a GUI dba, might be out of luck. But the the XE install has the catalog upgrade scripts that need to be run, there is a MOS note explaining the manual upgrade steps.
    Or set up a brand new 11g database instance and datapump your user schema(s) from the 10g instance to the new 11g instance. The database doesn't care what java version you're using, it just does what its told with the data. DDL, DCL, DML ... its not much different. Quite a few new features in 11g.
    But if you're after JVMs that piece is not supported with XE.

  • Developer version of Oracle for Linux

    I am currently enrolled in a class here at ISU where I am working with an off-campus company to develop a better user database for them. They run Oracle, but we must mirror their system on one of our machines to do the work. I was looking for a developer version of oracle that I can use this semester for this project. Does anyone know where I can get something like this?

    You can download it from OTN.

  • Is there a version of Oracle 10g Express Edition x64?

    Is there a version of Oracle 10g Express Edition x64?
    I'm looking for a 64bit version of Oracle 10g XE, because I use windows 7 x64 and to have no disadvantages ODBC drivers I would get that version.
    Is there a 64bit version?
    AnthuanVasquez

    1) There's currently no XE 64bit
    2) there's currently NO Oracle software for Windows 7 at all

  • What I can do with the free download version of Oracle 10g?

    I'm new to Oracle. What can/can't do with the free download of Oracle 10g Release 2? What is the difference between Oracle 10g Release 2 and Express edition?

    Express Edition has limits on the number of CPUs it'll utilize (it essentially forces itself to run single-threaded), amount of RAM it'll utilize and amount of data it will store. It is missing many of the higher level security and maintenance features you would find if you wanted to be highly available.
    The downloadable version of Enterprise Edition is missing none of these, however the license states that you can only use the that version for development purposes.
    I suspect you can also use the downloadable version to educate yourself on how the various features work, but it doesn't specifically say that in the license and I'm not a license expert.

  • Connect Oracle Developer / Designer to Oracle 10g XE database

    I have installed the Oracle 10g XE database on my PC. Also on the same computer I have installed Oracle 10g Developer Suite (Designer, Forms etc). The database runs ok without problem. However I cannot connect Designer to the database. I know a listner program (e.g. tsn listner) has to be installed for the purpose of connecting to the database. When starting the XE database a listner program also is started.
    My question:
    What do I have to do inorder to have the Designer connect to the XE database?
    R. Carson

    Is there any changes should I do?!Well sorry but I don't know. This sugesstion to copy sqlnet.ora file resolve my problems to connect with Developer 6i to 10g, but that is 10g EE in my office, not XE at home...
    Anyway your sqlnet.ora file look like very "default" but maybe is that O.K. on XE?
    Who knows?

    Hi,
    I have an application in - Front end tools : Oracle
    Forms/Reports 4.5. RPT, SQL, and PROC(all are in
    CUI-character user interface)
    tabase : Oracle 7.3.4.
    I have a plan for migrating database to 10g keeping
    front-end as it is.
    Is there any compatibility issue with forms 4.5(CUI)
    with oracle 10g.
    Regards
    JIJUCharacter interface?? you mean Forms 3 not 4.5??
    It will not work, you cannot directly migrate Oracle 7.3.4 to 10g, you need to migrate it first to 8.1.6 and than to 10g.
    Even if you succeed in your database migration your front end version will not work.

  • Which is the Stable Version of Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition?

    Friends,
    We would like to upgrade our oracle 9iR2 to 10g in RHEL AS3.0 box.
    I would like to know the latest version of 10g.
    Also, please provide me.....
    1. Tutorial link for upgrading 9iR2 to 10g.
    2. Link for oracle 10g latest documentation for latest release.
    Please provide the documentation link for 10g latest release with RHEL AS 3 or 4.
    Also, please suggest me whether 10g with RHEL AS 3 or 10g with RHEL AS 4 is best.
    Thanks
    Sathyguy

    If you have a choice between Red Hat AS 3 or AS 4, choose AS 4. AS 4 uses the 2.6 kernel.
    There is no sense in using 10g R1, unless you have vendor supported app that will only support the app on 10g R1.
    You can find the 10g R2 docs at the following link:
    http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/homepage
    In the documentation link mentioned above you will find the Upgrade Guide and the Administrator's Reference for UNIX-Based Operating Systems.

  • How to chage java version in Oracle 10g

    Hi all,
    I've installed on my server the Oracle 10g that includes the JRE 1.4.2_10. So, I have another JRE installed on my server and I would like to set the Oracle to use this one. How can I do this?
    Any Help will be appreciated,

    Are you trying to write Java stored procedures that run inside Oracle's JVM? Or are you trying to write Java code that is executed on a middle tier application server that happens to connect to an Oracle database?

  • Crystal report developer 10 vs. oracle 10g

    Dear all,
    Is there any compatability between crystal report 10 and oracle 10g?
    I setup an ODBC data source connecting to oracle 10g DB which works properly in crystal report 8.5 however not working in crystal report 10.
    Am I missed something?
    Thanks,
    Rachel.

    Install Oracle client on the machine and use the Oracle Server native connection option.
    Alternatively,you may try using some other driver (OraHome or Microsoft Driver for Oracle databse) rom the available choice.
    OLEDB connection can also be tried.
    You may specify the exact error message (and at what stage you are getting it) if the above options do not work or they are not feasible for you.
    Thanks

  • Connect Oracle 10g DEveloper Suite to Oracle 10g Express Edition

    I installed both the free Data Base 10g XE and Developer Suite 10g in a local machine. need to know how to connect both products to begin to work with.
    I did several attempts to do so using Developer Suite Net Configuration Assistance, Net Manager and Developer Suite Administrator but, I always fail when try to connect with the data base: username: system, password: bla,bla, bla and database XE, the system answer ora-12154: TNS no se ha podido resolver el nombre del servicio.

    Depending on the installation type selected, the tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files may be installed in the DevSuiteHome\network\admin folder (Windows) or DevSuiteHome/network/admin directory (Linux and Solaris). You can update the files manually using a text editor, or use the configuration tool, Oracle Net Configuration Assistant. For more information about the configuration tool, refer to Oracle Database Net Services Administrator's Guide in the Oracle database documentation library.
