Developer version of Oracle for Linux

I am currently enrolled in a class here at ISU where I am working with an off-campus company to develop a better user database for them. They run Oracle, but we must mirror their system on one of our machines to do the work. I was looking for a developer version of oracle that I can use this semester for this project. Does anyone know where I can get something like this?

You can download it from OTN.

  • Performance Oracle for Linux OS/390

    Hi all,
somebody know some issues in Oracle for Linux OS/390..?
    instalation, performance, etc.
    Thanks and advanced.
    Best regards....

    Hi Shane,
Oracle has only released client software for Intel Macs, but not the full database server software. If you want to run the Oracle database on your Mac, I suggest installing on a supported OS running in a virtual machine (VMware Fusion, Parallels, or VirtualBox). Michael McLaughlin has a very thorough post on his blog about using an Intel Mac as a client for a database server running in VMware Fusion.

  • Choosing oracle for linux ! what are merits and demerits

we are going to choose oracle for linux for our e-commerce site which will serve as search engin and shopping mall.

    Thanks cgawoods for the advice...
I followed all the steps that you mentioned... Installing the Oracle client proved to be easy as pie on the Linux server, and connecting to the Oracle instance on the NT server was instantaneous with sqlplus... tnsping also finds the Oracle server without a hitch.
I also made the modifications to the coldfusion start script you mentioned, i.e. setting ORACLE_HOME, etc (which is also mentioned in Allaire's docs).
However.... (yes, here it comes) The DSN still comes up as 'failed' when I try to add a new one using the native drivers in the Coldfusion Administrator.
Do I need to do anything on the Oracle server side (NT) first in order to get things working?
I'm pretty stumped at this point as to why this won't work.
    Thanks
    DH

I've done Cold Fusion installs on Solaris 2.6, and am an OCP DBA. If you download the Oracle 8.0.5 EE (RedHat 5.2) or Oracle8i EE(Redhat 6.0-6.2) Server programs, you may use the "Server" installation as an Oracle Client. Once you get Oracle installed, you will need to configure the tnsnames.ora file to point to your remote database. Then, you will need to point Cold Fusion to the $ORACLE_HOME where you installed the Oracle Server software. You will want (and probably need) to use the "native" oracle driver for Cold Fusion instead of the ODBC driver. Once the Oracle installation is complete, and you can "tnsping" the Oracle instance on NT, you should be able to configure Cold Fusion to talk to your Oracle database. It's just a matter of reading Allaire's documentation on configuring Cold Fusion for use with Oracle at that point.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I have been using Oracle for about two months now without
hitting any licensing issues. That's not to say that it won't
expire some time in the future...

    Hello,
i have downloaded Oracle 11G R2 for Linux and my host OS is Ubuntu. After unzipping the downloaded file i got
    1. response folder,
    2.upgrade folder and
    3.oracle-xe-11.2.0-1.0.x86_64.rpm file.
My host OS Ubuntu is 64 bit, and i have downloaded Oracle 11G R2 64 bit for Linux.
But i am unable to use that database. Please help how to use that !

    Hello;
Your download does not appear to be correct, I would expect a much different result from unzipping.
I would check this out and follow it to the letter if I were doing it :

    Best Regards

    Later
PavanG is probably correct, in that case you should look at this :

  • 64-bit version of collect for linux

Is there a 64-bit version of collect available for studio 9
for linux (for use on the AMD Opteron hardware)? If not, is
there any estimate of if and when this might be available?

It will be available in Sun Studio 10, but not Sun Studio 9. Sun Studio 10 will be available in late January.
(collect remains 32-bits, but it can collect data for either 32-bit or 64-bit executables.)
Availability and download information will appear at
    http://wwws.sun.com/software/products/studio/index.html

Officially, no. But there is a how-to out there to install Oracle
7.x on a Linux machine using the icbs support that can be built
into Linux. Check one of the official how-to sites and see if you
    can find it there.

  • Oracle for Linux download

Is this download time limited? I know there's a 30 day CD but
that doesn't give us enough time for developing a prototype
which would aid us in our decision of what database system &
platform to go for in the long term...
If this development version available on Technet has no time
limit, then it's worth downloading and evaluating.

I think you experienced a server in flux. I just tried it and it works. If it continues to fail, then post more details about how you navigated from the page you referenced.

  • Oracle for Linux - released?!?

Yeah, I'm aware this might seem a bit foolish to ask, but
when I call Oracle in Denmark (which seems natural to me, as
I live there :) I am told that Oracle 8 for Linux isn't released
yet. So what's the deep truth about this?

    1) Someone had suggested that the recent webcast with Larry Ellison would be about Database 12c, but that didn't make sense because the other presenter in the webcast was the head of SPARC.
    2) Amazon is taking orders for a book called Pro Oracle Database 12c Administration that is supposed to be published on April 17th.
    3) Apress Books has two titles announced for mid-May.
I would assume that those books cannot be published before the product is released, so those dates might provide some indication.

As far as I can remember there are two different licensing
schemes. The first one is : max. allowed concurrent login; the
second one is: max. allowed no. of users created. For which one
to use, you might talk to your local Oracle Sales rep.

  • Sub : Light weight version of Oracle for development in localbox

    Hi
Do we have any light weighted DB version for Oracle 9i so that we can install in the same in local development box instead of a full blown server. Looking for smaller DB (in size, memory, cpu usage) that ensures that my code is appropriately unit tested.
Like a code tested using DB2 Express ensures that it works perfectly fine with DB2(full blown). Do we have any thing similar to this for Oracle.I need this for my project.
    Thanks

I am looking at having IBM RAD, IBM Websphere 5.1
test environment and a light weight oracle 9i DB at
the backend which helps the local development
box(with RAM <=1.5GB) .Thats the reason I asked for.Is your issue with Enterprise Edition because of disk space or because of memory? If memory - learn how to tune the SGA and PGA.
Are you using any EE-specific features, or is the database just an expensive bit-bucket? If a bit-bucket, then 10g Express Edition will be just fine.

  • Access to the latest version of Oracle for Windows/Linux

I teach an advanced course about databases and XML at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. For that course I use Oracle as one of the platforms and the version available on the oracle website has certain annoying bugs that relate to the XML functionality. Those bugs have been fixed in the latest version (according to the documentation), but the latest version is not available for download without a support identifier. It has been over a year since the latest version came, so how come the download page still offers the old version? Is there a possibility to get access to the latest version somehow for use in my course? Is it possible to update the web page (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.html) so that it offers the latest version?

Any patched version is available only for the customers who have the valid support contract and have access to MOS. Either you ask for a support contract being an education center or should purchase a support contract. You can look at different options available from https://store.oracle.com .

  • Installing Oracle Forms Developer 6i Release 2 for Linux  (d2k6irelease2.tar)

    Hi !
I have downloaded the d2k6irelease2.tar file from OTN. There is no such
file present with the distribution which can be executed for installation.
Has anybody tried the installation from this file. Please guide.
    Vineet Loiwal

AS with all the downloads on otn this is a full version with no
time limit. But you are under the OTN license which says that
you have to purchase the product if you are developing
production applications with it. Its free for evaluation and
    personal education purposes.
