Developer Workplace SR2 sapinst problem
Win2003 server + MS SQL, trying to perform a NW04s Developer Workplace SR2 install.
Running sapinst, immediately after choosing the Developer Workplace - SQL option, I get error:
103 syslib.filesystem.errorSettingTimeStamp C:/Program Files/sapinst_instdir/NW04S/SYSTEM/DEVWP/MSSQL/toplevel.xml, 816
No logs are even created yet in the sapinst directory. Only 5 XML files, which is where this stopped. I have full admin rights on the host. I've not seen that "timestamp" error before. Anyone?
Hi David,
some strange problems are often related to the java version installed on the server you're installing. Make sure you have java version 1.4.2 and not 1.5 (it doesn't work with 1.5 yet) - maybe that's the problem.

I installed SAPNW2004s Developer Workplace SR2 Preview.
Installation is successful and J2EE engine starts properly.
I am getting problem in starting the J2EE server when I restart the system.

At a minimum your winXP "Server" service does not appear to be running. That may be why the java server never really starts. -
Using Developer Workplace Without Network Connection
Hi,
I have just installed the NW04s SR2 Developer Workplace.
Without connecting to any network, I tried to start up the J2EE Engine in the SAPMMC but it cannot start up saying
<b>Error occurred: Secure Store lib Dir does not exist
MLEE20-1\sapmnt\J2E\SYS\global\security\lib\tools</b>
When I tried to access the shared drive
MLEE20-1\sapmnt, it says shared drive cannot be accessed.
But if I connect to a network, I am able to access my shared drive
MLEE20-1\sapmnt
My question :
1. Is there any way that I can startup the J2EE without connecting to the network?

I uninstalled the whole Developer Workplace NW04s SR2 from my laptop.
Next, I took out the network cable and login as a local user of the laptop.
This local user is in the Administrator Group.
I start the Developer Workplace SR2 installation and it keeps giving me this error message :

How do I resolve this?

as you see yourself the jload is unable to connect to the database.
Check that your firewall is properly configured and that the SQL Server agent is running.

Problems installing Netweaver Developer Workplace 2004
Dear Netweaver experts,
I have severe problems installing Netweaver Developer Workplace 2004 on windows XP.
I used sapinst for installing the Java sytem (Menue Java System->Oracle->Custom Installation).
After running through 34 of the 35 phases during which the sapinst tries to start the freshly installed J2EE engine I got the error :
CJSlibModule::writeError_impl() CJS-20057 Starting J2EE Engine J00 of SAP system J2E failed: after 84 s the state of the engine changed from "Starting" to "Stopped".
and changed my memory setting using the configtool.
Afterwards I tried to start the server in my MMC and it seemed to be running.

Our EP instance, according to our BASIS team is on SR2. Is there any conflict when our portal developers use Developer Workplace SR1?
We have an SR2 Developer Workplace installer but lacking / or lost the MaxDB RDBMS installer. Is there any alternative route to have our SAP J2EE engine installed in our local workstations?

I get the following errors when I try to install Netweaver 2004s SR1 Developer Workplace with MS SQL Server:
saploc does not exist
FJS--0003 TypeError: this._name has no properties in script NW_WorkplaceHi
I think you must be geting this error soon after givening the java cd path.If this is true then the problem is with your JDK.Usually this kind of error appears during the installation if there is some incompatibility between what is required and written in the instaaltion scriot and what actually you have installed(i mean version incompatibility also)
Please make sure that you have taken correct CD's and JDK

I am installing NW Developer workplace SR3 with MaxDB in Window XP 2002 SP2. I have followed all the steps correctly but it is hanging at 'create database schema' 16th phase of installation. I have waiting 4 hours to complete this step but no improvement in this 16th phase.
Any idea why the create database schema is not processing.

I have just downloaded the latest release of MaxDB, but I understand from the note that this version is not compatible with NW 7.07 without additional steps.

I'm trying to install the Developer Workplace 7.01 MaxDB on a Virtual Box instance running Windows XP SP2. The Virtual Machine has 1 GB of RAM and about 8 GB of free disk space. (The aim is to run a local version of the ISA Webshop.
When installing I run into problems in phase 11: Creating Database Instance. The logs supply the following information:

When running these commands manually (as suggested in [this thread|Re: The dbmcli call for action DB_CREATE failed;), I get the following output:

It seems the installer is able to create an instance, but cannot or has not created a database.
I have retried several times, Viruscanner and Firewall are turned of. I am using JDK 1.4.2
What am I doing wrong?

51038550_9 (RDBMS_MaxDB_7.8.01_Build_14)
51036767_7 (NW_7.01_SR1_Krnl_WIN_AIX_z_OS_HP_SOL)
I have just downloaded the latest release of MaxDB, but I understand from the note that this version is not compatible with NW 7.07 without additional steps.

Developer workplace installation issue (access) in Vista.
Hi All,
I am trying to install NW04s SR2 Developer workplace (Max DB,J2EE Engine and Developer Studio) in my Windows vista home premium machine.The SAPinst stops with an access issue while coping some file to c drive.
I did not try switching off the UAC (User account control) and would like to know if some workaround is possible.
Did anyone faced a similer issue and found a solution.

BikramVista Home is not supported, it lacks some functionality the kernel needs. You need to use Vista Business (at least).

I've recently acquired a new 64-bit hp laptop with 8 gigs of ram at considerable expense. It seemed silly to get a 32-bit system, this being the year 2009 and all. Besides, all that memory...
I was surprised to discover that the developer workplace (available as part of SAP Netweaver PI 7.1 EHP1 and SAP Netweaver CE 7.1 EHP1 install) would not install on my machine. I am running 64-bit Vista by the way. I could not wait for Windows 7, since my previous machine died and had to be replaced.
Now my question is: is there a way to get the developer workplace installed on a 64-bit OS like Vista and if so, how?
I've seen reference to a kernel patch in SAP Note 1040931 (NTCLUST.SAR) with regards to installing on Vista or Windows Server 2008, but I'm not sure how to use it, if it is applicable. The error I'm getting while running sapinst is:
Running msiexec failed with return code 1603: undefined
Commandline was msiexec.exe /norestart /L sapmmcX86u.log /i sapmmcX86u.msi /qn
If you want the installer to retry, choose Yes. If you want the installer to abort the installation, choose No.
I cannot believe I am the only one running into this problem. Who wouldn't want to develop on such a machine??

I would recommend to run a virtual machine on your PC and install the Netweaver there.
I usally use VMWare Server with WindowsXP or SUSE there.
The advantange of this approach is that you can easily copy your installation later on and create sandboxes for any purpose.
Also you can easily move your Netweaver installation to other servers if necessary and you become independent of their host OS.
Just my 2 cents.
