Developers, tell what you're busy at!

Dear developers and forum members,
I've been waiting for a tool like Siena for quite a while. Unfortunately this tool is too limited for fitting my needs right now. You can understand that I eagerly wait for updates from the Project Siena team but we haven't heard anything for weeks right
now!
I'm full with questions. Actually, at this point I don't even know if Project Siena will ever be what I'm looking for. I wish updates from and discussions with the Project Siena team more frequently. To begin with, responding to the requests at the requested
additional functionality sticky. I believe the team will also benefit from more interaction with the (future) users of their product.
Am I the only one thinking like this?

While I do understand your eagerness and need for information, I have to agree with Thorwn.
If you really push you can already achieve a lot with what is presently available. Information is always good to have but it will come in due time. A development cycle takes time and effort.
If we notice things that are really required we have a way to get the message to the team (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/2e1f9446-56b2-419a-9c17-7037d2cd6146/from-the-community-overview-of-requested-additional-functionality?forum=projectsiena)
I do a lot of other programming in various environments as a hobby and I find the approach from Siena refreshing. Is it still missing stuff, of course, but reading the following article
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/dn495637 it is clear that the team is fully aware that this is not an end stage.
This is Beta and that means something. Do betas sometimes fail, I believe they do. Certainly if the viability is not there, there's no community, no business case, functionality comes too close to other existing products, etc tons of reasons.
The more we help proof that this is worth supporting and a real value add package next to visual studio in it's many forms and usages, there is a business case.
So I believe we need to keep on submitting apps to the store, talk about it, get information to team on what really is missing or not working as it should be via the channels we have.
Regards
StonyArc

For me it's the interactivity and the repsonse of the interface.

For me it's the Customizable Notifications Profiles, much like we had on OS7.

In my opinion BT seems to be focusing its attentions on things which the Business thinks the customer wants and not thinking of the simple things which customers expect from a well run National business.
Things such as Good, UK based customer service. Being able to speak to a Human being that can understand the nature of your enquiry. But BT seem so focussed on an "efficiant" workforce (i.e cheap) that it focusses on Foreign Call centres, automating Voicemail phone service for payments and a "Chat" system which gets the customer no where and frankly, does not seem as trustworthy as one might imagine, I would much rather talk to a human being.
Things such as the ability to pay your bill on the day you want, at the amount the bill actually is, Rather than a system which chooses the most inconvieniant date possible (i.e 10 days after the bill is made - which means that if my bill is on the 5th I pay on the 15th, which is useless if I get paid on the 1st), Or a recurring payment which automatically changes itself after 6 months to ridiculous amounts.
Why is it BT struggles to do things which all other providers offer as standard. I could phone Sky right now and speak to a Human being who could sort the nature of the problem in 15 minutes, and trust me I would if I had coverage in the area I live!!!
Instead of focusing on trivial things which a quater of your market will want, focus on simple customer service areas which your whole market is screaming for, and frankly, would improve the business as a whole. Becasue, simply, at the minute the whole system you have in place is a disgrace.

  • Generic wsdl - how can you tell what the field assignment is?

When using the generic wsdl, it seems that your custom fields are mapped to fields such as:
    customcurrency12
    customtext4
When accessing the asset class, how can tell what field is assigned to what custom value? When I look in the admin > application customization > asset > asset field setup
I can see the list of fields and field types but not the number on the end so that I can assign it in my web service code. Is there a way to see what your custom fields are mapped to (i.e. custom standard discount is mapped to custompercent11)
Thanks in advance any help you can lend on this,
    AspnetDev

You can use the getMapping web service to get al ist of all the fields for a record type. for each field you get the ElementName (which is what you get in the generic wsdl) and DisplayName which you can use it to match to your fields.
    <Field>
         <DisplayName>My Custom Field</DisplayName>
         <ElementName>CustomText74</ElementName>
         <DataType>Text (Short)</DataType>
    </Field>

  • How do you tell what RAM chips your RAM has without seeing the actual chips?

I was wondering about the possibility of actually having Winbond chips in Corsair RAM as I have the Corsair TwinX 1024 DDR3200LL RAM and my system has been completely stable for a month and a half with no BSODs.  Granted, I have not yet overclocked, but Prime 95 and Memtest86 have also run flawlessly.  It seems that very few people have used this RAM with success.  In another post, senator mentioned that some older Corsair RAM had Winbond BH-5 IC chips or some other decent chips as opposed to the current not-so-good chips Corsair is using.  I swear that I saw Winbond on some screen on my PC, but don't remember where.  I checked out Corsair's website, but didn't find anything useful at first glance.  I pulled a stick of my RAM out to look at, as I thought that maybe removing the metal clip might allow removal of the heatspreaders, but it does not.  Does anyone know any other way to tell what RAM chips you have without actually seeing the chips?

There should be some numbers on the heatspreader, take a look. I found the answer to your question.
    Taken from corsairs forum.
    XMS3200C2 Rev 1.1 uses -6 Rev B
    XMS3500C2 uses -5 Rev B (only rev. 1.1 exists)
    XMS3200LL Rev 1.1 uses -5 Rev B
Subsequent versions 1.2 and 2.2, have been produced with CH-6 ICs

  • How can you tell what app is using a file?

I have a screenshot that I moved to the trash. I try to empty the trash, but it says the file is in use. Is there any way to tell what app is using it?
    Thanks very much.

There is a shell command (i.e. Unix executable) called fuser.
This program displays a list containing all the process-ids (PIDs) that are accessing a particular file at a given time.
To invoke it you just need to open a terminal window, wait for the command prompt (typically a "$"), then type fuser followed by a space and then drag the file from the finder to said terminal window.
Once the PID list is displayed, you need to look-up the process id (the first column) with the help of activitty monitor to see the name of the app that's accessing the file.
One final warning: make sure activity monitor is displaying "all processes" because the file is not necessarily being accessed by one of your processes.

  • How can you tell what the OS is?

I have an OS on an external drive. Is there any way to tell what version it is without actually booting into it?
    Thanks very much.

Open Disk Utility, select the disk from the sidebar, and click Info. This won't work for Logical  type volumes; I'm not sure if it works for Windows, but I'm assuming you are talking about OS X on the external drive.

  • How do you tell what week your computer was manufactured?

How can I tell what week my computer was manufactured? My serial number is [..snipped...]. Week 19 translates to what month?
    Thank you

Someone, somewhere could theoretically, trace your serial number to your name, address and maybe even how you paid for your computer. I recently had my identity cloned in Mexico. I wouldn’t think of posting any unnecessary information on any website. But that’s just me.

It sounds like you might have accidently copied Chess over from an Intel Mac, or an Intel Mac's installer DVD.  The architecture typically means it is designed uniquely for either Intel or PowerPC.  Be sure to extract Chess from the 10.5 Retail installer disc that looks like * and not any other disk.  http://www.charlessoft.com/ 's Pacifist lets you extract individual applications from installers without having to reinstall everything.

  • TES 6.1.x - how do you tell what DB is used by ClientMgr?

We just externalized the Client Mgr DB to Oracle, updated config files, etc. How do you tell what db is using - Derby or Oracle?

After you externalize the CM database, you should see the db objects (tables and views) in the database are now created shortly after you start the CM service.
You can verify creation of database objects in the actual database and in the plugin log upon start-up. This log can be found  under the ../ClientManager/plugin/tes-6.0/log directory

  • How can you tell what GB a handset is...I'm buying iphone6 second hand

HHow can you tell what GB is in an iPhone 6 ....I'm buying second hand

the most reliable way is to go on the phone and tap
Settings/General/About - that will tell you the capacity (among other things)
but remember the actual space wont be what Apple advertises - my 128 GB iPhone 6 + says it has 114 gb of space - there is formatting and the operating system to take into account
the size is also printed on the back of the original box but unless you have the phone and get get the serial number off the phone (which is in that same location) you cant be sure the box is from the phone you are trying to buy
