Developers tools?

Is there any way to develop games or tools for the iPod nano? Maybe even just a Macromedia Flash application?

If I'm not mistaken, they don't allow it. Apple gets to write the software. All the in-iPod software that accessories use - eg. copying pictures from a camera or voice recording - is built in already.
The general consensus in the press is that they won't allow it because they don't want to compromise the stability of the ipod.

  • Using CVS by installing bare minimum of Developers Tools

Precisely which options are required when performing a custom install of the Developers Tools if I want to gain CVS functionality, and nothing more? Currently, Terminal.app reports "command not found" when running "man cvs" or "cvs". In addition, how much space would such an install consume; and how much of that space is consumed by items residing in the /Developer folder? The reason I ask the latter is I'm wondering how much space I'd fail to regain by moving the Developer folder to an external partition that I only mount (at /Developer not /Volumes) when needed.
    Thanks for the help.

    Hello again.
I never tried it until I just re-read your post, but cvs and man cvs are alive and well on this computer.
As noted, the Developer folder is 3.61 GB (version 3.0) so you could burn it to a DVD or better, a R/W DVD if HD space is at a premium.
Developer also installs some other files elsewhere on the system - library files, headers, etc. Not sure how much room they take up.
The actual binary "cvs" is located in the Developer usr/bin directory.
Another cvs directory in located in the usr/share directory which contains some other files.
I wonder if you could use Pacifist to extract just the cvs files and apps from the DVD or package and install just them. I expect that installing the entire Developer package creates some paths and possible other things like man pages, so that might not be so easy.
You could of course install the Developer package and rename folders in the Developer directory to see if anything is affected. Any directory whose name you change that has no effect on cvs can probably be trashed (or better saved on DVD just in case).

  • F12/Developers' Tool Randomly Opening

I have no idea where to post. I was told this was an unusual problem by Chrome Support and that ya'll may
    be able to help.
Please help. Please speak to me like you're teaching a child. I don't know the technical aspects of a computer.
The developers' tools/javascript console (?) keeps popping up randomly, but continuously. I am not clicking f12 or any like commands. I am just trying to browse the internet. It's very annoying. I ran numerous virus scans and my husband did a system restore.
I even tried downloading Firefox and it kept doing it on that browser, too. A couple times, it popped up, it has a self-xxs warning about trying to hack people's Facebook accounts? I assure you, I have not. Please help!! This is driving me CRAZY!! I tried
resetting the Chrome settings, no dice. :(
Things I have done to try to fix it:
    -Switch from Chrome to Firefox
    -Numerous Virus Scans
    -System Restore
    -Reset Chrome Settings
    -Posted to Chrome Help Forum
    -Cleared Browsing Data
    -Reset Chrome Settings again
    -Chrome Troubleshooting Steps
-Installed Malwarebytes and got rid of the PUPS and Virus that the other 2 Anti-Virus programs missed
PLEASE HELP! It's been happening for weeks now. It's annoying. I have never seen this box before this. Also,
I have NEVER tried to hack someone's Facebook account! Hoping you guys have a solution!!
    Thank you,
    Julia

If the option to disable the inbuilt keyboard is greyed out, you can test whether this keyboard is the problem by using the "Uninstall" option. Then open Firefox or Chrome and leave open for as long as the problem usually takes to appear (or
    preferably longer).
Windows should reinstall the keyboard when you reboot the machine.
If, however, the above test convinces you that the inbuilt keyboard is causing the problem then you could try permanently disabling the keyboard by following d3vid's suggestion on this thread:
    http://superuser.com/questions/717133/how-can-i-disable-laptop-keyboard-but-not-wireless-keyboard-windows-7
If the problem reoccurs with the inbuilt keyboard uninstalled, try switching external keyboards.
You can try a clean boot as suggested by arnavsharma and a safe boot with networking (see link below) as suggested by ZigZag3143x and test to see if the problem occurs in these states. How to safe boot:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode

  • How can I disable developers tools from using function keys?

Every time I try to use my Quake like console binded to the F12 key, it opens the dev.Tools. How can I disable or even better uninstall dev. Tools.
I don't want to change the key I use for my console, I want dev.tools to stop bothering me when I'm browsing the web, IT'S DISTURBING!!!
Most people doesn't need dev tools, just put it as a plugin !!!

Was eventually able to eliminate this problem by deleting the size entry in the devtools.toolbox.host using about config.
At least it's invisible now instead of occupying half the page every time I hit F12.

  • Which Developers Tools need to be downloaded?

Our company is developing a software program that we would like to Interface with Oracle products. The initial product that we planning to work with is Oracle E-Business 11i. We are developing on a .NET platform. I have several questions with regard to becoming an Oracle product developer.
    1.     Is there an application or cost to become an Oracle developer?
    2.     What developer tools would we need in addition to .NET Development?
    3.     Will we have access to a development or test environment?
    4.     What system requirements are needed?

    Hello rousse101,
Would you mind to describe video games in detail? I'm not quite sure the meaning of your video game. As far as I know, almost all games are actually apps, video in games are just playing some movies and do not have Interaction.
Flash Player Games seems have interaction but I don't know whether VS can develop it.
Anyway, if you want to develop an Game, you should choose your library first, for example, for DirectX, you can refer to the following blog:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/vcblog/archive/2012/09/25/directx-graphics-development-with-visual-studio-2012.aspx
    Or XNA:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb975644(v=xnagamestudio.31).aspx
However, none of them are pending on VS. You need the SDK and also VS installed together then you can develop Games.
By the way, this is not the right forum for your issue, we talk about install/uninstall Visual Studio issues here.

  • Iso developers tool path wont save PLEASE help :)

    Hello,
I tried going to the apple forums first, but they really just told me how I shouldn't use Dreamweaver, so they were no help.
Here is what I posted there. I am just going to copy and paste it. I really do appreciate any help I can get
Hello, I'm very brand new to Mac. But I have Dreamweaver cs5.5 installed (came with it) and it is a new macbook pro.
I downloaded the Xcode 4.3.2 (took 7 hours on a high speed connection).
When I open up Dreamweaver and click on site, then Mobile applications, then configure application framework... the path doesnt save.
All I know to choose right now is the applications folder because that is the only place I see the icon for what I downloaded.
Here is the most frustrating part... When I choose that, or type in /Developer (as I saw online somewhere) or anything else, I click SAVE and it does not save anything in that space.
I'm wondering if this means I don't have the SDK, or if I don't know where it saved to, or ... really I'm clueless. Do I have to be a paid member of the developer end to get the sdk?
I managed to get the droid one for DW easy. Matter of minutes it was all done. But I've been at this iso part for days now.
Any help would be worth so much gratitude. Really....... I'm on the brink of losing my sanity here

  • Oracle Personal Edition and SQL dev. tool

I installed Oracle 10g Personal Edition on my laptop and want to use SQL Creator (SQL developer's tool/program - http://www.snefru.com/index.jsp) with it.
I'm trying to setup my SQL developers tool to connect to my local Oracle database and there is a connection wizard for the SQL program which prompts me:
    1.) "Select a JDBC driver..."
2.) "Enter Host name for the server that the database is located on...."
3.) "Enter Port number that the database is listening on...."
4.) "Unique SID of the database instance..."
How can I find out 1.) - 4.) for my specific, local database?
    Thanks in advance...

When you run SQL*Plus, what is the version number displayed:
    C:\>sqlplus
    SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.3.0 - Production on Tue Nov 22 17:11:44 2005
Copyright (c) 1982, 2002, Oracle Corporation.  All rights reserved.
    Enter user-name:?
You woudl download the driver that matches with that release.
if you did the database install, chances are you already have the jdbc driver installed.
    Do you have a directry ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/lib ?
Do you have files like classes*.jar in that directory?
if you do you already have the jdbc driver files.

  • Forum Search Tool - SQL Developer - Wrong location?

In the Forum Search - Category or Forum, the SQL Developer appears in Database division.
I think he should appear in the Developers Tools division....

Another way of getting to the correct forum is to use a feature's portal. Might be helpful to know that route when unsure of which forum.
For example, in this case you could
start at Oracle Technet homepage portal
    go to either
    - Database product portal OR
    - Developer tools portal
both will point to the SQL Developer portal
which points to the SQL Developer
This is simply to indicate that there are several different, legitimate, paths to a forum - including through the Dev Tools as well as through the Database area.
My point being that no matter where we put the forum, basic taxonomy principals indicate that someone will have a legitimate argument to move it somewhere else. Thus fulfilling the basic human need to require politics in any and every area of existence. <g>

  • Office 2010 home and student

I am setting up a business that will depend on me being to change websites and some othern things so I really have multiple questions.
First. This is a very sophisticated Sales system that is using multiple computers. I have Dell Desktop. Windows 8.1 full version. Dell Latitude LTE 8.1 that is an upgrade from 8.0. Nokia 2010 phone that I have seen both ways. It has the
Black upgrade but one site I was on said I did not have 8.1 and one said I did ( I think that was the Microsoft ) store. And then I am using a Garmin GPS. I have to have trip software and it needs to load multiple addresses. This was for me for my sales territory
but I think that is about to change.
I have Office 2010 that is not a very old version but keeps coming up and saying it wants its product Key. I put it in and it checks out OK asks me to get out of office and reenter and it will run OK. I do that and it just keeps doing the same
thing. This happened after loading the new 8.1.
This is going to be a business application but the system took me almost a year. I am in project Sienna and have  a visual trial.
That I am learning to use. This is going to be business so I need business approval. I am determining if I need developers tools or not. I like developing but I have projects that are already developed and I am not really interested in developing for
the store. I am going to probably run several web sites. One for Youtube and One for you.
Plan is to help you both with Mapping.  I am kind of an odd associate but I have witnessed the interest from you and Google on my mapping. I use the Dell tablet for PDF catalogs and Pricing and then The GPS to get me there. The
desktop for geosinking addresses and a lot of office paper work. The phone has multiple uses. The camara, quick emails, and aps that has all kinds of uses.
This is not a fluke I have been working on this for 20 years. The tablets just wont do the job. 2 pounds to heavy,2" to large,2 minutes to slow on boot and it looks like a computer and the older guys don't like it. The tablet changed all that.
With that said I will be trying to contact your Mapping Division and see if they need me. The system is very difficult to install. Four different computers must talk to each other about the same thing and multiple small problems arise and must be solved. I
can only at most do 2 systems a month and depending on their equipment they have and want to use maybe only 1. This is to important for that. It saves 2 1/2 hours a day for people who must find a lot of addrsses. That was unexpected. It happens all day long.
The GPS is saving 10 minutes here and 20 minutes there and ends up saving at least 2 hours a day. Now the icing on the cake. I made 15 calls in one day between 9:00AM and 3:30 PM. These were leisurely calls. When I leave in about 4 days they are going
to luv me. What I realized while testing this was that most of the stress from an outside sales job was just getting there. When you take that stress off of that job it goes back to being a fun job that is fun to do. You punch the button on the GPS and it
will go from call to call for as long as you want and pick back up the next day from where you left off. I tried both the phones and tablets for mapping but those really would only work for finding an address here and there. You overload the phone and the
tablet to try to combine a very sophisticated trip program with them. The tablet would have a very hard time being mounted on the dash and then you pull it out of its mounting to go in and make a call with it. Then try to Email your order in and then put it
back in the mounting to use as a GPS. The same problem with the phone. It has a very important job with what it does and is overloaded for really a lot of reasons to give it the mapping. Again it would be fine and actually very good to go find one address
but to start trying to get it to do industrial numbers of calls is just asking to much of one unit. GPS has serious job to do. It is left in the car while you are making the call. It is ready to go when you get back in the car. This is an industrial system
with serious attempst to save time and money and improve the lives of the people using it. Kindest,Larry Don
PS this is to important for me to go out 1 account a month with. This will enhance the whole computer industry and needs to be with the big boys and girls that can put together a serious marketing program behind it. Please get this to the right people.

    Hi,
If you meet any problems when using our products, you can post the question here. Please post one question in a single thread, and the question should be posted in the proper forum.
The current forum is for Office 2010 - Planning, Deployment, and Compatibility.
Just as Don mentioned, you may have multiple questions and some of them are not well placed, post them to the correct forum to get the specific support.

  • Edge.oam animation file not working in Muse

Anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I've created an edge animation, published an .oam file and placed it on a Muse wepage (no prob).
    Preview in Muse works beautifully.
Preview in browser from Muse works beautifully.
Export Muse to HTML and Edge animation not displaying – looked at the code, shows an iframe with link to edge html, but just not working.
    ...help please

Someone please help me with this... I dont understand where the src path should point to when updated? Can you give an example path. I am not using edge animate but instead HYPE 3 which is relatively the same thing, exports html animations as an OAM or html file. When I use the OAM in muse it previews fine in browser and in Muse. But when I publish it shows a blank box. I looked at the code and see the iframe pointing to assets/example/example.html.
I've tried exporting the Muse file as HTML after I've placed the OAM widget in Muse.. Then I navigate to the assets file and open the HTML file and try and locate the iframe code line but it does NOT exist. But if i Publish the site with Muse and OAM widget and use the developers tools I can see the iframe. After that I've tried going through filezilla to the assets folder and opening the HTML file but still NO iframe code line exists. I only find src for .js code.
PLEASE HELP... would really like to integrate these animations into my projects.
    Thanks

  • Save As / File Open dialog boxes too large to use on laptop

I have a Macbook Air and am using one of the new Apple LED Cinema Displays, although this problem was also present when I was using my older Apple Studio Display.
The problem is that some of the system dialog boxes, notably File Open and Save As are huge when I am just using my Macbook with no external screen. They are so big i cant see the lower right drag handle and make them smaller and cant access buttons at the bottom like "New Folder".
I think this is because I resized the dialog box when I last had my large external monitor connected and now that it is not connected (I'm at home on holiday not at work) I cant find a way to make them reset to their normal size.
Does anyone know anything that would help? I've had a good search online and also in these forums and havent found anything - but apologies if I've missed an existing open thread.
    Thanks,
    Glenn.

This did not work for me - and in my case it was the "Export" Save As sheet in Keynote. There is a real solution for this problem. Firstly all user 'preferences' and these are things that include not only preferences set in the application's preferences window but also window position, size, recent items etc. are stored in the preferences .plist file for an application (stored in the users account Library folder) . If an application starts to behave strangely, crashes on start etc. deleting this file while the application is NOT running can often fix a problem. So if a window is in an unusual location or partially off-screen then trashing the file often will fix the problem (BTW - if you are unsure how to find the file activate the Finder and select the "GO" menu -> "Go to Folder" and type ~/Library/Preferences - make sure you are not in the System's preferences folder - deleting these items is typically bad...). Preference files for an application are typically named com.companyname.programname.plist. So for Keynote the plist is com.apple.keynote.plist. Preferences are recreated when the application is launched. Often though this is a bit extreme. If you double click a plist file the "Property List Editor" application will start (at least if you have the developers tools installed - all free and on the Leopard DVD - with a free Apple Developer ID you can also run the most up to date version pre-snow leopard). In the plist editor all of the various options available in the program are listed - ones from the preference panel and other application information. In the case of Keynote (possibly other apps - I haven't checked) the NSNavPanelExpandedSizeForSaveMode key stores the size of the Save/Save As sheet. I downsized from a 17" MBP to a 15" MBP and the string size for this was 682 wide by 843 tall in pixels - my screen is only 900 px and once you consider the space needed for the application menu bar and tool bar the dialog buttons were 'just' barely visible - tauntingly so. I dropped the height to 743, saved the plist and reopened Keynote (remember to edit these while the application is not running - and always save a copy first before editing the file). This worked for me perfectly and unlike other suggestions here provides precision control. Now having said that 1) these files are XML and can be edited using a text editor but the plist editor is much prettier; 2) typically the keys are named using their appropriate Coca names for the property - but each developer can and does write their own code often deviating from Coca - hmm MS, Adobe come to mind - so remember that its good to read through the plist and Google to make sure that you are editing the correct information; 3) plists are automatically recreated if you really screw-up and need to delete - unfortunately in doing so Word will forget that no-one actually likes "when editing automatically select the whole word" so you will need to redo all of those kinds of preference tweaks.

  • CAN'T SCREEN SHARE! TRIED EVERYTHING! PLEASE HELP!

My girlfriend just got a new Macbook and I've been helping her set it up across campus though our network at my university. It worked fine and then one day it didn't. Every time she asks or I ask to share her screen it gives this error to both of us:
"Failed to start Screen Sharing because: Screen sharing could not be established."
I've been reading discussions on how to fix this for 2 weeks now and nothing has seemed to work. What is weird though is that I can screen share PERFECTLY with my Uncle who lives in Wisconsin (I am in Arkansas) from campus. However, I can't seem to connect to my girlfriend's computer who is simply just a few buildings away.
The following is what we've tried:
    1. Switch from wired to wireless network
    2. *Set "System Prefs>Quicktime>Streaming" to "1.5 Mbps T1/Intranet/LAN"
    3. *Set "iChat Prefs>Audio/Video>Bandwidth Limit to both "500" and "None"
    4. *Both computers have a firewall set to "Allow all incoming connections"
    5. *When #4 didn't work we set firewall to "Set access for specific services and applications > iChat.app set to "Allow incoming connections"
    6. Rebooted both Macs
    7. Deleted all com.apple.iChat.X.plist files and started over fresh
    8. *Enabled "Screen Sharing" in System Prefs>Sharing
    *Restarted iChat afterwards
I think that's all. It is just really frustrating because I can screen share with someone clear across the nation but not someone who is on my same network. The only difference is that she is using a Gmail account through AOL and I am using a @me.com address. I thought maybe Gmail wasn't working so I had her switch to an AOL account and still same error.
We cannot port forward for obvious reasons at school but it worked before and nothing on the firewall has changed. I work at the IT department at our university and spoke with the person who runs the Firewall and supposedly there are no blocked ports on the part of the network we use. I know with iChat 4 in Leopard it doesn't use a specific port, it bounces around until it finds one according to article regarding port forwarding and NAT routers and iChat.
The weird part is that when we are both off campus (different houses) and try it, Screen Sharing tries to start, she gets the big words across her screen ("Screen Sharing Started" I think...) and we can hear about 5 seconds of audio and then it errors out again. I really want to get this working can someone please tell me how? This is really frustrating.
    Thanks,
    -jg

    Hi,
First off from reading this it should be an AIM valid name (@mac.com, AIM or @me.com) to AIM valid name or
a Jabber valid name (which includes Googletalk valid Gmail IDs) to another Jabber valid name
(that is both should be using the same type of Buddy list)
As you say the Apple Doc on this is not clear on the Screen Sharing part - listing only the changes to the AV ports compared to the Previous Doc (Now article HT1507). It does not mention the Screen Sharing at all.
Reading around suggests the Screen Sharing is based on Apple Remote Desktop and reading the com.apple.ichatAgent.plist with QuickLook shows a reference to a ARD link/process. (the same can be seen if you install Developers Tools from the Install disk which will give you Property List Editor which will open the .plist files).
The Article TS16929 (Previously Doc 106439 shows that Apple Remote Desktop uses port 5900 and 5988.
Having said that though I run Little Snitch, an application that monitors and reports which IPs and Ports and application is trying to use. This shows me a completely random port in the 15xxx range along side the AV port 16402 for the Audio component. It maybe that Apple Remote Desktop also moves to a random port after it has established a connection.
Most people fail on the Audio part and get the standard Log Pop up screen to send or not to Apple - BUT you clearly have the other message...
"Failed to start Screen Sharing because: Screen sharing could not be established."
.... which is unrelated to the Audio part.
This would clearly put things in to the realms of a firewall or setting issue with possibly modem/router or LAN features getting in the way. (Leaving aside ISP related things for the moment).
You say iChat is in the Allowed Specifics List in the Leopard Firewall.
You say that nothing has changed on the Campus Firewall and can connect Off-site form On-site so it would seem not to be there.
On this last issue, check if they have introduced a Streaming cap on Intra-Site links. They may be trying to prevent other things such as Peer-to-Peer File Sharing or thing like everyone sharing their iTunes Libraries and other similar activities. The ability to Share Optical Drives re MacBook Airs maybe a factor.
I would tend to look towards your girlfriend's Mac.
Since iChat 2 it seems that some failed chats seem to hold on to ports or have some hold over the Network going on.
It seems most common when in System Preferences > Network the drop down at the top listing "Location" is left at the Automatic Default.
There are essentially two fixes for this.
    1) Set up another Location and copy the settings across and switch between the two to force the Network to re-establish itself.
2)A longer way of clearing what is going on.
    a) Shut any Airport card down if using WiFi
    b) Shut down the computer.
    c) Disconnect any Ethernet cable from either Computer or routing device (whichever is easier to reach but leave the routing device still connected to the Internet - just isolate the computer from the Internet)
    d) Restart the computer (this is with no Internet Connection)
    e) Restart iChat.
    f) Restart Airport card or plug in Ethernet cable.
    g) Using the Buddy List, select Available and make iChat Login (can also be done from the iChat Menu (> Accounts submenu in iChat 4)
On your last paragraph I would ask if you can Video chat at this set of locations ?
This is because in this scenario a feature of one of the modems may be an issue.
Some modems and routers have DOS (Denial of Service) or SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) protection. These tend to be threshold based and have no setting control in the devices set up pages (other than On or Off).
iChat can stream so much data, particularly in Video chats over what are now quite high Internet speeds that a DOS feature will consider it an Internet attack and cut the port involved. SPI tends to be judging whether the data stream is valid and does not seem to keep up and the result is the same.
In Video chats the end that has the Problem tends to get a Error -7 In the Log.
The Other end gets the "No Data for 10 Secs" message.
    Summary.
Essentially though as you have tried a deletion of all the .plists for iChat and you imply both ends it is more likely something about the Network or how the Mac thinks Network resources are already allocated.
There is not an easy .plist deletion for this hence the two methods listed above.
NOTEs: 1) #8 in your list is not related to iChat.
This is what you can now use of Apple Remote Desktop itself. It has it's own Screen Sharing app (without Audio like iChat) that is invoked from the Finder's Go Menu > Go to Serve and entering a VCN:// IP address. (As a System Application, as it were, it is in /System/Core Services/Screen Sharing.app)
It does need both Macs to have the Setting Enabled as you have done it #8 though
    2) Some ISPs it is suggested block Screen Sharing. (Verizon was the name I heard mentioned). How they tell what the data steam is specifically I do not know as it would seem that the Audio part of an iChat Screen share would make it look like an A/V chat and that Apple Remote Desktop must be a valid way of working for some people. However iChat is Peer-to-Peer in AV chats and Screen Sharing and some ISPs are known to actively work against these file sharing apps that bear the same generic term.
In your case I do not think this applies as you can Connect Off site via whatever ISP your Campus uses.
    I hope this helps.

  • What does it take to run OTN sample code?

Do I have to install some kind of developers tool kit in order to compile and run the OTN and Oracle-install related sample code?
Also, I noticed that OTN only has toolkits for Oracle 9i, and nothing for Oracle 8i. Is Oracle abandoning 8i? Lots of us are not moving to 9i for some time, and abandoning 8i is not a swift idea. If we can not do what we need to do in 8i, we can always use Microsoft SQL Server, which we already have and are familiar with . . . There are those in the department that are using this to argue for a return to SQL Server.

I re-read my posting, looking for any mention of a lack of Oracle 8i documents and could not find any.
But I did notice that I mentioned OTN Samples and a question regarding the need to install toolkits in order to run them. I still don't know the answer. You see, the OTN sample readme files seem quite 'lean', and the classpath info needed to compile the Java code is not provided. I have not been able to compile the code after quite a bit of effort, prompting me to question the need for a tool kit. Or perhaps some .jar or .zip files are missing?
I also questioned support for Oracle 8i in that OTN is featuring 9i almost exclusively. This was prompted by my inability to locate 8i toolkit downloads in case I needed them. Plus the fact that we will be on 8i until next year . . .
    Have a nice day.
