Developing a Web Service

Hi,
I'm fairly new at doing this and although i've read almost every blueprint and doc on it, I'm in need of a little advice.
I've created a 'Web Application' within Sun Studio 7, and I'm creating order entry and order display info in parts of the web application. It is here that I would like to develop a web service to interact with the customer. I've 'added' a 'webservice' to the web application and then linked it to some of my classes. I've created a 'test' client and this is where the problem occurs. I 'execute' the client and it brings me to a page much like the 'CurrencyConverter' demo. However once I enter my data I get a Error 404 message. That is my first problem. The second is once I deploy this, how do I use the client against a real server. My tests are just to localhost:8080.
Thanks.

if external web service is hosted in BizTalk, then most probably we are talking about WCF services, is it correct? In order to start working with them the simplest way is to add Service reference in Visual Studio (see e.g.
How to: Add, Update, or Remove a WCF Data Service Reference). It will generate proxy for your application (regular C# class which will have all complexity related with remote calls
hidden from you, so you will work with it by the same way as it would be any other C# class). Important moment however is that VS will also generate configurations which are necessary for consuming remote service (bindings, endpoints, etc.). You will need
to copy these configurations to web.config of Sharepoint sitem when will move it to event receiver (in case you will choose synchronous events), or configure WCF proxy them programmatically in Sharepoint.

  • Need some direction on developing a web service.

    Hi,
    My requirement is to develop a web service and expose 8 Oracle views as methods that can be invoked that will give the data within those views in XML format.
    What is the best approach in doing this?
    I've tried developing a PLSLQ procedure and publishing it as a web service but see that there are limitations related in using a PLSQL record type as out variable
    Not sure if I can do this by developing a BPEL process.
    Appreicate your help on this..
    Thanks

  • Can use PLSQL to develop PLSQL web services?

    Hi,
    I know we can use JDeveloper to create PLSQL web services.
    How about if we want to develop plsql web services using PLSQL itself, is that possible?
    Please advise.
    Thank you.

    I found the article on how to call web services from within database.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/webservices/htdocs/samples/dbwebservice/DBWebServices_PLSQL.html?_template=/ocom/technology/content/print
    The example is for oracle9iR2.
    It's looks like it's quite a bit of work compare to use java to call web services. I wonder with Oracle10g database, is there any improvement that will simply the steps? Would appreciate some advice as i don't have oracle10g environment in my place.
    Thank you.

  • ICI development (SOAP, web services, contact center)

    Hello all, I have been developing an ICI (Integrated Communications Interface) web service for our contact center using ICI Interface Specification v 3.00 Date: 11/15/2002. I wonder if there is any newer document available, and if there is a forum/web site for more information about this matter?
    I have already implemented mostly working interfaces for IciSystem, IcuUser, IciEvent, IciContainer, IciItem, IciPhoneLine, IciPhoneCall, IciFolder and IciMessage. The problem is that the document does not tell everything, some things have to tried (in brute force) until it works, like the correct messageId format.
    Another problem is that the IC WebClient seems to hang very frequently, it takes an hour or so until it works again. I get JavaScript errors when I view an e-mail. Also it does not work with newer Java 1.5 but only with Java 1.4.2.
    Also I have not found the XML schemas mentioned in the end of the document: MonitoringCatalog.xsd etc.
    Thanks, Harri

    Harri, look into the BSP Forum and also for WebLogs here on the SDN from Thomas Jung, he has written some very, very good blogs. Tiest.

  • Develop PLSQL web services using JDeveloper.

    Dear Sir,
    1. Must we use OC4J to generate PLSQL webservices? or we can use any other J2EE compliant app server?
    2. Does it mean in Oracle environment, we can only use JAVA and not other language to wrap PLSQL stored procedures to create PLSQL web services?
    Please advise.
    Thank you.

    You don't need OC4J - you can use JDeveloper to generate Web services from PL/SQL
    You can manuall wrap PL/SQL into web services with any language - however JDeveloper uses Java to do this without the need for you to code anything.

  • Doubts developing web services on JDev 10.1.3.0.4

    Hi,
    I was trying to follow this guide
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/oramag/webcolumns/2003/techarticles/balusamy.html
    in order to develop this web service on Jdev 10.1.3.0.4.
    But the menus are different from the version used on the tutorial. I´m having some difficulties with the selections that i have to make in the menus. Also, after trying several options, the files generated are different from the ones that appear on this tutorial.
    Does anyone know how to reproduce this tutorial on this version of jdev ?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    The guide you were refering was pointing to 10.1.2 wizards.
    For the latest 10.1.3 tutorial, please follow the below tutorial link :

  • Deploying a Web Service developed for WebSphere to Oracle App Server

    I have an EAR file containing a web service (exposed as a servlet) that was developed using WebSphere Studio and originally deployed to a WebSphere application server. It should be J2EE 1.4 compliant. I now want to deploy it as a web service on Oracle Application Server.
    Is it as simple as just deploying the EAR to OAS? Or do I need to (re-)assemble the EAR using the Web Service Assembler tool and then deploy it? What is the best practices approach for this scenario? My goal is to develop a web service that is deployable to both WebSphere and OAS with as little fuss as possible.
    Thanks

    using Ant.
    check apache.org project there they have the ant section.

  • Response of a Web Service developped in C#

    Hi all,
    I am trying to call a Web Service from XI. For this I imported the WSDL file of this Web Service as an external definition. The problem I have is that the person who develops this web service returns a structure of type "Dataset" in C#. In the WSDL file, the response part looks like this :
    <s:element name="GetDB2DataResponse">
    <s:complexType>
    <s:sequence>
    <s:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1" name="GetDB2DataResult">
    <s:complexType>
    <s:sequence>
      <s:element ref="s:schema" />
      <s:any />
      </s:sequence>
      </s:complexType>
      </s:element>
      </s:sequence>
      </s:complexType>
      </s:element>
    So when I try to map the return of the Web Service, I only have one field in the Message : NewDataSet of type "xsd:schema", and I can't do any mapping with this.
    I don't know C# so I don't know how the WS developper could change the return type.
    Does any of you know what kind of structure the Web Service should return if I want to have the complete return structure at design time ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Julien

    Hi Julien,
    No way to work with that generic "schema".
    I think in the WSDL you should have the schema as well. Just like the way XI exports message interfaces into WSDL: you can try yourself, and you'll notice that, if you have a synch interface for instance, both input and output messages definitions are inside the wsdl as xsd's.
    More, from what I can understand, "GetDB2DataResult" sounds like you'll be returned a set of tb rows, so in my opinion you should get back to the C# guy and tell him to complete the wsdl with missing infos.
    If he can't provide this info, so just go calling the ws, see what's inside the returned message and create the matching data type yourself.
    Hope this helps.
    Best wishes,
    Alex

  • The Best Java Web Services Technology for Developing Web Services

    Hi,
    I am new to Web services world.
    I read the java web services page . there are more than 6 technologies.
    JAX-WS,
    JAX-RPC,
    JAXB,
    SAAJ,
    JAXP,
    WSIT,
    XWS-Security
    I went through several documents on web services.
    I could not get a clear idea of which technolgy to use.
    Which Java web service technology will be the best to develop web services independant of language, platform.
    or is there any 3rd party implemetations available ? for rapid development of web services.
    Could anyone help me !.
    Thanks in advance.

    Which Java web service technology will be the best
    to develop web services independant of language,
    platform.
    Java by nature is a cross-platform language, so if your focus is on the need for portability, the choisce of WS should not be a problem. However, each WS is best suited for paricular uses.
    SAAJ, a low-level level API, offers much simplicity, but is not the first choice for programmers, as SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol)messages need to be constructed piece by piece, making it a quite arduous code to program.
    If you are not familiar with XML, your best bet would be to use JAX-RPC (Java API for XML-Remote Procedure Calls), as it hides the underlying detail from the programmer, in terms of SOAP and XML. The shortcoming with RPC-based WS is that it is "restricted to the local programming experience". Another failing is that assumes there is a network path- a reliability concern.
    If your program will be contacting other services during downtimes, unlike JAX-RPC, JAXM is quite useful. However, your listing did not mention it, so I wont cover it.
    JAXR is a client-side only API that acts as an interface between registries (not referring to JAXP)
    I am not famiiar with JAXB, JAXP, WSIT or XWS-Security..
    or is there any 3rd party implemetations available ?It depends on what platform you are used to. Assuming you are familiarized with the J2EE platform (now changed to Java EE SDK), the NetBeans IDE (either 5.5, 5.5.1 or the latest editiion) is quite useful. I am using 5.5.1, but have found that it is quite buggy, especially when adding WS operations, a core requirement of a WS. if you will be using to devlop a service for an immediate need, you may find the learning curve to be a bit high, in terms of getting to grips with how to use it. (Download link:
    http://www.netbeans.info/downloads/index.php)
    The IBM Autonomic IDE (or AIDE), based on the WSDM standard, includes 3 sub-tools, icluding the IBM Manageability Endpoint Builder which, according to their website, allows individuals to build endpoints to allow manageability interface exposure; Manageable Resource Browser and the IBM Manageability Endpoint Simulator. However, I'm not familiar with this IDE. (Download link: http://www.alphaworks.ibm.com/tech/aide/download)
    The .NET Framework uses the Visual Studio IDE. For an unbiased comparison of J2EE and the .NET Framework in terms of WS, see http://www.webservicesarchitect.com/content/articles/hanson01.asp.
    Apache Axis2, Geronimo and JiBX allows fast development of WS, or so the creators profess.
    The PHP environment- you could try NuSPHERE PHPed. According to one website, with it you can develop a web service in under an hour.
    I hope this was useful to you.

  • What is the best practice for developing web service?

    Hi All,
    I'm a newbee to web services...
    I was wondering what would be the best approach in developing a web service,
    using tools or programmatic approach?
    If I use WebLogic Workshop, am I tied to a vendor?
    Is it possible for me to develop web services using workshop and deploy in
    another app server..?
    I would appreciate if somebody could give me a pointer to start.
    I have already referred BEA's docs.
    I'm still confused on a good starting point on the best approach to develop
    protable web services.
    Thanks in advance for any inputs.
    K K

    K K-
    You have a very valid point on the simplify or complicate matters. If you are
    going for clean and not-so-time-centric code, then there are several different
    programs and packages out there you can choose from.
    Since you are specialized in J2EE, than the Sun package may be what you are looking
    for. BEA's classes simplify much of the work you will be doing, but you could
    emulate their classes or extend yours above the functions provided in theirs.
    It all boils down to how much work are you willing to do.
    If you are asking for more detailed, coding 'Design Patterns' to utilize, I would
    wait for a few more posts from other folks as my work often requires me to utilize
    the tools provided.
    Sincerely,

    Eric,
    Thanks for the response.
    I was also looking at Sun's WSDP 1.1, which is more programmatic approach.
    Some how, I feel being a J2EE developer, I should go on the direction
    of the
    programmatic approach.
    Using the tools could simplify or complicate things. Also, the Workshop
    samples import all weblogic specific packages.
    My code looks so dirty with many vendor specific packages being imported.
    Could you give me your suggestions for a clean and neat approach?
    I would personally prefer to avoid the quick and dirty approach.
    Thanks again.

    K K-
    The best approach in developing portable web services is knowing whatyou
    are
    planning on using them for as well as how much is willing to be spent,etc.
    BEA's Workshop is portable to other frameworks, but the ease ofintegrating a
    developed client or a developed server can very greatly. Even moreof an
    issue
    is migration from one framework to another. If you choose to developin
    Workshop
    and your company later deploys .Net solutions, some of your work mayhave
    to be
    redone unless the company is willing to keep portions of the 'old'system
    around
    until new versions of the service are available. However, Workshophas
    several
    ant tools available that would assist you in deploying to other appservers or
    even a stand-alone application should you need cross framework abilities.
    If you are just starting out in web services, http://www.webservices.org
    is a
    good place to start checking out vendors in the space.

  • Web service Client developing!

    Hi,
    I've developed a web service client with JDeveloper 9i.
    I did it using the WSDL file location and the stub/skeleton generator wizard.
    Once made it, I wrote a client class with a method as follows:
    // code beggining
    public static Integer calculator (Integer a,Integer b) throws Exception {
    Integer result= null;
    if (a==null || b==null){
    a= new Integer(0);
    b= new Integer(0);
    try {
    CalculadoraWSStub calc= new CalculadoraWSStub();
    result= calc.calculator(a,b);
    catch (Exception ex)
    throw new Exception ("\nMy Exception: " + ex.toString());
    return result;
    // code ending
    Ok, now the main point of the problem.
    If we execute this code under JDeveloper, everything goes well, BUT if we execute it as a function under Oracle database appears a Exception telling us something about a internal error because HttpClient/RetryModule constructor is private!
    Can you help us?
    -- we can't solve this problem because it only appears when we are trying to connect to a web service.
    Thanks in advance, people!

    Yes, this is correct. ANM 4.1 does not allow more that 5 logins per account and unfortunately this is not configurable. I suggest the you mention this to your local Cisco Account Team.

  • Develop Web Services in APEX

    Hi,
    I'm just getting started and i need to know what is the best way to develop an web service in apex ou expose functionality as such. Is this possible or do i have to buy some product to do this? If so, which one?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Pedro

    Hello Pedro,
    If you want to develop a web service, APEX is not the first choice. You should better go for JDeveloper (also free).
    APEX is perfect for consuming web services though...

  • Using CE 7.1 ESR with ABAP based web services requires java development?

    Hi All,
    When developing a web service in ABAP, what java development must I do to make the web services available in an ESR that is located on CE 7.1?
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Mel Calucin
    Bentley Systems, Inc.

    Hi Stefan,
    Someone told me that the difference between CE 7.1 ESR and PI 7.1 ESR is that to register the ABAP web service into CE 7.1 ESR you need to create EJBs and that you don't need to do this for PI 7.1 ESR (since ithe PI 7.1 ESR is ABAP based).  I didn't think that this was the case so I put this question in this forum to confirm this.   I am arguing to put in CE 7.1 because we don't need the PI 7.1 functionality.  This someone told me that we are more of an ABAP shop than a Java shop and that we don't want to develop EJBs whenever we develop ABAP based web services.
    Thanks.
