Development environment for SharePoint 2013

Hi,
We have requirement for one of the project. Team size would be approximately 30 resources. Development would be entirely for SharePoint 2013 Intranet solution. this will be OOTB Intranet application. We will be developing InfoPath forms and Nintex Workflows.
For such requirement we would like to setup local development environment by using either Virtual Machines.
Can anyone help me to identify that how many VM's would be required for the same? How many simultaneous users can use and work at a time? What other things I need to consider for infrastructure? How can i suggest the best possible solution for this.
Thanks in advance.
Abhijeet Khopade

Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to set up the environment for SharePoint Development.
Here is a detailed article about configuring development environment:
Setting up a SharePoint 2013 Development Environment
For VM count, it depends on your project development requirements, for VM license and management ,if you are using Hyper-V, I suggest you can create posts in Hyper-V forum:

  • Configure an Environment for Apps for SharePoint 2013

    hH,
We are building QA environment for Sharepoint 2013. For this my management asked me to configure the APPS store. But when i referred the MSDN article, they are suggesting
" You must purchase a domain name from a domain name provider for your apps, for example, ContosoApps.com."
Which is not possible in my case as purchasing a new domain requires lot of approvals also this is an QA environment.
So please suggest on the below points
    1) whats wrong to build a sub domain like APPS.XXXX.COM instead of XXXXAPPS.COM
    2) since it is in a QA environment, is it necessary to have a SSL  ??
    3) is it need to have a different APPS stores for QA & PROD environments.
    Thanks,

    Hi Praveen,
you don't need to buy a domain use your internal DNS

  • Windows Updates for SharePoint 2013 Environment

    Hi
I created a visual machine for SharePoint 2013 development by following steps mentioned below.
    --Install Winows Server 2008 R2
    --SQL Server 2008 R2
    --SP2 for SQL Server 2008 R2
    --SP1 for Winows Server 2008 R2
    --Sharepoint 2013 Pre-Requisites
    --Sharepoint 2013 Setup
    --Sharepoint 2013 Designer
--Installed March and August 2013 Cumulative Updates for SharePoint 2013
    --Installed SP1 for SharePoint 2013
I want to ask do i need to install Windows Updates after installing different updates as i mentioned above because everty now and then windows updates message keep pops up and i did'nt install windows updates yet.
Why is it necessary or what impact window updates would have on my environment if i need to do it??

Windows Updates cover security updates as well as stability improvements, and so on. You're simply patching SharePoint and SQL in the above case.
It should be noted that any SharePoint patches that come down through Windows Update need to be manually handled as you'll need to run the Config Wizard (e.g. MS14-022 and MS14-050 which are SharePoint updates).
When you're installing SharePoint 2013, you only need to install SP1 if that is your target. There is no requirement to install March 2013 or August 2013.

  • Which one is the best approach for responsive UI development option in SharePoint 2013

Which one is the best approach for responsive UI development option in SharePoint 2013
Device channel or responsive UI (HTML, CSS)?

In practice you're probably going to end up with a combination. A couple of device channels for classes of device and then responsive UI within those channels to adjust to particular devices within the classes.
Of course the real answer is as always 'it depends' as you'll need to pick the best option for each client based on their needs.

  • Reverse Proxy for SharePoint 2013

    Hi,
I need to setup SharePoint 2013 environment which needs to be accessible from mobile devices e.g. iPAD/Android, for reverse proxy, I am looking at apache or IIS ARR since UAG is going to be deprecated. So far any one setup apache (on
    RHEL 6.x)
or IIS ARR(on W2K8R2) successfully as reverse proxy for SharePoint 2013 access? Is there any issue? and which SharePoint authentication method should be configured?
Must is be Form based authentication? As I read some articles it seems ARR supports Windows authentication. Thanks in advance.

IIS ARR doesn't authenticate users, it is a pass-through (unlike UAG which can do auth or anon). Both IIS AAR and the new Web Proxy Role in Server 2012 R2 do not work with SharePoint 2013 Apps.

  • SSIS List Adaptors for SharePoint 2013

Was wondering if anyone is using the SSIS SharePoint List Adapters with SharePoint 2013 ?  We are interested in using them, but wasn't able to get information on support for SharePoint 2013 and the api's used (ASMX vs WCF web services).

Thank you in advance for any help.

    Tom H.

    Hi Tom,
Based on my test, we can use SSIS SharePoint List Adapters for SharePoint 2013.
The following steps test in my environment are for your references:
Download and Install SharePointListAdaptersSetup.msi or SharePointListAdaptersSetup_x86.msi.
Right-click the SSIS Toolbox pane to Refresh Toolbox, then we can see SharePoint List Source and SharePoint List Destination under Common group.
Create a SharePoint connection as SharePoint Credential in the package.
Double-click SharePoint List Source or SharePoint List Destination to open the dialog box.
Select the SharePoint Credential as Connection Manager in the Connection Managers pane.
In the Component Properties pane, paste the URL for the SharePoint site into the SiteUrl (exclude anything from the word Lists onward in the URL)
Example: if your SharePoint site URL for Lists is
    http://sp2k13/sites/report/Lists/11/AllItems.aspx
then type http://sp2k13/sites/report as SiteUrl, type 11
as SiteListName, type All Items as SiteListViewName.
Finishing the mapping in the Column Mappings pane.
The following screenshot is for your reference:

  • DoD 5015.2 Resource Kit for SharePoint 2013

Is there a Microsoft DoD 5015.2 Resource Kit for SharePoint 2013?  I researched Microsoft.com, this blog website, and the web but could not find specifically whether SharePoint 2013 is DoD 5015.2 certified other than from third party vendors.

That's a very tough question. I have worked previously with clients that have wanted to work within ARIMS and AFRIMS. The short answer is that yes, this is certainly possible to comply with DoD directives on file management. That said, it requires a lot
of planning and potentially some slight customization that you can work to develop and send for approval or a third party tool.

  • SQL 2012 AlwaysON High Availability for SharePoint 2013

Our Company have 2 Webfront Servers for Sharepoint 2013 and one Database SQL 2012 Server.
We got one more Server & we don't have Storage so need to configure Always On.
    There are Some Confusions:
1- Database Server is in production, so how much down time required to Achieve the AlwaysOn?
2- What are the Changes need to be done on Production Server?
3- What are the Steps to be followed While Configuring new Database Server?
    Regards,

    Hi Genius1985,
According to your description, you want to configure a SQL Server 2012 AlwaysOn Availability Group for your database, right?
Question 1: Database Server is in production, so how much down time required to achieve the AlwaysOn?
There is no a certain downtime for AlwaysOn, it depends on the configuration of our AlwaysOn Availability Group, normally it can be several seconds or minutes. In order to understand why there is downtime for SQL Server with Microsoft Clustering, please refer
    to the following article:
    http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/1882/understanding-why-there-is-still-downtime-for-sql-server-with-microsoft-clustering/
Question 2 and 3: What are the Changes need to be done on Production Server? What are the Steps to be followed While Configuring new Database Server?
Since AlwaysOn Availability Groups require a Windows Server Failover Cluster, we first need to add the Windows Failover Cluster Feature to all the machines running the SQL Server instances that we will configure as replicas.
Once the Windows Server Failover Cluster has been created, we need to proceed with enabling the AlwaysOn Availability Groups feature in SQL Server 2012.  This needs to be done on all of the SQL Server instances that we will configure as replicas in our
    Availability Group.
For more details about Step-By-Step: Creating a SQL Server 2012 AlwaysOn Availability Group, please refer to the following article:

Hi all, we have contracted with a Sharepoint specialist who have produced numerous welsh / bilingual web sites. They are working on a business case to Microsoft in conjunction with certain agencies and focusing on how education sales would suffer without
it. They seem to think that the likely date for release will be Q2 2014, Hope this helps, it will be too late for us and we probably won't run our intranet bilingually as a result.
