  • Best practice for developing with CRM 2013 (On Premises)

Hello all.  I'm just starting to work with CRM, and I have some questions that hopefully will be simple for the seasoned developers.  It's mostly just some best practice or general how-to questions for the group.
    - When creating a new Visual Studio CRM Project I can connect to my CRM Instance and create new WebResources which deploy to the CRM instance just fine, but how can I pull all the existing items that are in the CRM Solution into the Visual Studio CRM project?
Or do I need to export the solution to a ZIP, expand it with SolutionPackager.exe, then copy these into my Visual Studio project to get it into sync?
    - When multiple developers are working on changes is it best to keep everything in a Visual Studio project as I mentioned above, or is it better for everyone to have their own instance of CRM to code with so they can Export/Import solutions as needed then
these solutions be manually merged before moving into a common Test/QA environment?
    - When modifying the submenu on a CRM form is it suggested to use Ribbon Workbench or is it better/easier to just export the solution, expand it with SolutionPackager.exe,  modify ribbondiff and anything else required for the change, package it
back up, then reimport to CRM?  I've heard from some that Ribbon Workbench has some limitations, but being green I wasn't sure what those limitations might be or if it'd be best to just manually make these changes.  Or is thre any way to have a copy
of ribbondiff in Visual Studio and deploy this without having to repackage the Solution and Import in the ZIP?
I think that's it for now :)  Thanks for any advise or suggestions.  I really want to start learning the in's and out's of CRM and how all the pieces fit together.  Also can someone direct me to some documentation or books that might give
more insight on developing for CRM 2013 or 2015 (moving to this soon)?
    Thanks for your time.

    Hi Sam
Also interested in best practice around this area - especially recommended development routes, unit testing, continuous integration etc - it would be great if you posted here if you find any good articles etc. At the moment we tend to just push changes
onto a live system as and when appropriate and I'd prefer to move away from that...
    Thanks

  • Certification of an App developed on CRM-on-Demand

    Hello,
We have developed a very nice hybrid App on top of Oracle CRM-on-Demand.
Now we want to put it in the Apple-app-store for global roll-out.
The question is if there are rules of using some kind of an Oracle certification, allowed naming or reference to Oracle, etc.
    Thank you for the guidance,
    Kind regards
    Erik van de Water

    Hi,
in the system classpath of an app deployed on WL 7. Will the <bea installation
home>/user_project/<project name>/application be automatically included in the
    classpath ?Not by default no.
    Look at your startup scripts.
In your domain, you'll have a startweblogic script. Here you may have defined some inclusions in the POST_CLASSPATH and PRE_CLASSPATH. This script calls
    "F:\weblogic7\weblogic700\server\bin\startWLS.cmd"
So check that one out too. It usually just has this:
    set CLASSPATH=%JAVA_HOME%\lib\tools.jar;%WL_HOME%\server\lib\weblogic_sp.jar;%WL_HOME%\server\lib\weblogic.jar;%CLASSPATH%

  • Urgent: Custom Form Development in CRM Applicaiton

I have built a custom form in 6i using the TEMPLATE.FMB file from 11i applications.
The form is called from with in the Contact Customer Form Module through the zoom feature. The custom form is called from the zoom but I am getting a Developer Error, cannot find Menu Item. I believe the problem is that I need to reference a Menu file (mmx) in the custom form. However, I have tried FNDMENU but it still gives me the error. Are ther any suggestions or has someone encountered this problem before.
    Any assitance is greatly appreciated.

The custom form first should be register in the appropriate menu. For that first a menu item has to be created by Oracle Apps DBA and then the form has to be linked to this menu item.

  • CRM ABAP Development aproach

    Hi Experts,
Can any body tell me the difference in the approachs of development between CRM ABAP and ABAP.
or only the CRM ABAP development approach.
    jaffer vali shaik

    Hi,
As far as ABAP is concerned, its same in R/3 and in CRM. But in CRM, its more oriented towards OOABAP. For example, BADI, Model access class of PCUI all are oriented towards OOABAP.

  • Web Coding considerations for CRM and R/3

As of ISA 3.1 the correct process for Development and Deployment you must use these tools in order to stay within SAP Modification Concept.
    1. Software Deliver Manager(SDM) - In the 6.20 environment it is a loose deployer meaning it will not track what web-apps exist on the j2ee server. On the later versions of the 6.20 j2ee if you do not use the SDM then the libray.txt and refernce.txt will be rebuilt and the reference to the web-apps required libraries will be removed.
    2. NetWeaver Developer Studio - This tool was built primarily as an SAP Portals development tool since it can connect to the j2ee 6.40 and do builds and deployments into portals. For CRM ISA, ICSS and Biller Direct as well as R/3 ISA and others you should still use NetWeaver since it has lots of functionality that can be leveraged even at this early stage.
    3. ISA Build Tool - You must use this to rename and build deltas of your web-apps for deploying throughout the landscape.
    4. Ant 1.5 - This is the most tested version of the ANT for the ISA Build tool. I highly recommend using this version only.
Developing for CRM in the new 6.40 world can be confusing and the thought that with this new j2ee server there is a ton of added functionality for ISA is not true. The j2ee server can be integrated with SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio but that gives very little support to CRM/R/3 ISA ICSS or BillerDirect.
    Good luck in your work.
    Stephen

    Sunil,
I believe we are working together in the other forum.  I will be posting as much as I can there.  As for upgrading.  6.40 is the way to go right now.  SAP Is transitioning everything in that direction. The two most popular for current customers are 6.20 and 6.40 6.30 is more a development system.  Try to use whatever your customer has.  Believe me when I say the more you install the environments on your machine the more you learn.  We, J2EE Developers, are unique in that we should know everything about our landscape not just our code.

  • ABAP - XI - BI - CRM

    Hi
    I am an ABAP consultant.
I am joining to BI( may be XI or CRM ) course on this saturday..
however I am really confused.. i dont know whether to join for BI or XI or CRM.
I am very weak in codin.. could someone please  let me know which one would be good for me.
which one has more scopes and demand.
    Thnx n cheers
    Nalina

    hi
every thing has demand , depends upon ur skills level ,
any how u have to improve ur coding skills , more then that conceptual  level ,
when ever u working on SAP , ABAP is base u mast be very comfertable with it.
BI and XI are more related modules for a technical developer then CRM , even XI is first in queue.
XI earlier know as Exchange Infrastructure now also knows as Process Integration ,
Basic purpose of XI is to give best possible integration b/w two system , weather SAP to SAP or SAP to Non-SAP system.
it based on XML based messaging .
BIW/BI is for Database optimization , to performance enhancement .
it is used to manipulates data to generates reports to help management for decision making . it has all programing process like ABAP.
CRM is more a functional module rather then technical ,  but it also based on Netweaver Technology and WebDynpro so it require technical skills .

  • Having multiple J2EE stacks connected to one CRM ABAP instance for CRM IPC

    Hello Experts,
The situation we were looking at is this.
We have 3 distinct teams doing Java development for CRM IPC configurators
    Team A - IPC/Ecommerce
    Team B - UI
    Team C - Order Wrapper
They each wanted to do development in their own landscape (Java Stack)
Additionally, two more landscapes are needed:
a landscape for end 2 end testing of the configuration scenarios
    another for a Performance Assessment
To get 5 full dual stack CRM instances was deemed unlikely.
Trying to explore if multiple J2EE's, can be connected to one CRM ABAP system.
It seems we can not, as the CRM ABAP to JEE comminucation is via RFC and there is excatly one RFC_Destination defined per CRM (across all clients). Is this correct?
    Thanks
    Rocky

May be you can wordsmith your requirement to make it clear what each team is doing. Also, please mention what version of CRM / IPC you are talking about.
From what you have said, I guess IPC/E-Commerce is E-Commerce enhancement. If NWDI is in the picture, you have one track for this enhancement.
The UI - I assume is IPC UI. This is also a Java based web application that shares the same Java stack with the E-Commerce application.
What is Order Wrapper? - If it a custom web application you guys are into, I still don't see why they can't use the same Java "stack".
In the development lifecycle, it is sufficient to have only one IPC environment for each phase. The development team needs only one, unless they have a valid reason to have their own Java stack. I bet they need only one.
If the developers are asking about "Sandbox", they can have their own NetWeaver Developer Workplace in their laptop / desktop.

  • Connecting BW with different clients in CRM Server.

    Hi All,
We have one CRM Server and one BW Server.
In CRM Server, we have 3 Clients.
    CRM 100, CRM 200 and CRM 300.
And in BW, we have one Client BW 200.
During the development of reports, we have connected CRM 200 with BI 200.
Development of CRM reports are done.Right now CRM 100, holds the quality data and client wants to link CRM 100 with BI 200.
Steps we have done while connecting CRM 100 with BI200.
    1. All the requests available in CRM 200 are visible in CRM 100.So We have created the RFC connection between CRM 100 and BW 200.
    2. Replicated all the data sources from CRM 100 to BW 200
    3. After replication, the link between Data source and Info source is not available.
    4. So we have installed manually the Transfer rule from CRM100 data source to Info source through business Content.
Please suggest, whether this is a right way or is there any other way to automate the linking of CRM 100 with BW200 for all info Objects.
    Thanks,
    Ram.

Many solutions, common is create OU for Members (or Users), inside, more OU's (one for managers & one for regular users).
Next use Group Policy Editor to create separate policies for each OU (one for managers & one for regular users).
This is Just a start and suggestion.
Please do not delete any Operating System created OU's or groups!
