Device Affinity: Removing System Account

I am in a situation where we are using the Self Service Portal for software requests and we have hit a bit of a snag. In our current environment we set device affinity by users who stay logged into their workstation 60% of the time. We also have an account
that runs after hours which is required for MacAfee to run. When users are logged off, this system account runs which overwrites the owner of the machine in the object, thus preventing users from requesting software through the portal as they are no longer
the owner of the computer.
Is there a way to exclude accounts from becoming the owner of a device wither through SCSM or SCCM?

Hi,
You can do it with SCCM Cmdlets powershell :

  • What problem may arise if we remove "system" account from ACL on files & folders

    hi friends
as wee see, in the ACL of all files & folders ,the account called "system" exist & usually has full permission.
what is the usage or benefit of this here ?  if we remove system from here, which problems may occur? if possible please give me some examples.
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
We have an old article for explaining this question:
How the System account is used in Windows
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/120929/en-us
The system account and the administrator account (Administrators group) have the same file privileges, but they have different functions. The system account is used by the operating system and by services that run under Windows.
There are many services and processes within Windows that need the capability to log on internally (for example during a Windows installation).
The system account was designed for that purpose; it is an internal account, does not show up in User Manager, cannot be added to any groups, and cannot have user rights assigned to it. On the other hand, the system account does show up on
an NTFS volume in File Manager in the Permissions portion of the Security menu. By default, the system account is granted full control to all files on an NTFS volume. Here the system account has the same functional privileges as the administrator account.
NOTE: Granting either account Administrators group file permissions does not implicitly give permission to the system account. The system account's permissions can be removed from a file but it is not recommended.
On shared folders if there is no system file stored inside, you can remove SYSTEM account from NTFS permission.

  • How do I remove ONE device from an iCloud account to a new one?

I am moving to college this fall, and want to separate myself and my apple devices (iPad 2 and iPhone 4s) from my family's apple ID. For a few years we've all shared a single ID for purchases of apps and music, as well as syncing our calendar events on our iPads. I just recently got an iPhone, and it bothers me that, having set it up under the same iCloud account, the contact list between me and my mom's phone is the same. I don't need all of her work contacts on my phone, nor does she need all of my friends on her phone.
I've been cautious, because I always knew I would create a separate account eventually - and I know purchases are not transferable. I haven't purchased any music on the iTunes store, and with the exception of two or three $.99 apps I've chosen free apps on my iPad and iPhone. I've created my own apple ID now, but what I want to do is change my devices from our family's iCloud account to my OWN...I'm not sure how to do this exactly.
I see a setting in the devices under Settings>iCloud that says "Delete Account" ....but I hesitate to press that - will it only delete the account on THIS device? Or does it remove the account entirely from all associated devices??
    Thanks for your help!

Winston is correct, and that is exactly what you should do. This will allow you to sign in to your own Apple ID for iCloud.
There's a couple other places you will want to do the same thing:
-iTunes Store: Settings > Store > Tap on the Apple ID and chose Sign Out.
    And possibly:
-iMessage: Settings > Messages > Receive At
    -Facetime: Settings > Facetime

If you enabled Find my iPhone then you should use that. If not, I'm afraid you're out of luck for finding it.

how can i see the "manage devices" in my itunes account? because i want to remove a device from using my apple id. tnx so much

Thanks pvonk, I will try downloanding the book from the Iphone right now.......
Just tried to download and it wants me to buy it again?  Is there some way around this?  I guess I thought that was the whole point of the cloud, buy it once and access from any of your devices right?
Also, I have logged into the icloud.com as suggested and will plink around there for a bit and try to understand.  It is just all so dang different that what I am used to; Apple's way, that is.
Thanks again for the Icloud tip and if you know of a way to download without making a 2nd purchase I would sure love to hear it!
Geez. one other thing (I guess I am complaining) but I bought more space in the cloud, they took my cash fast enough but have not yet increase the size of my storage space yet?  Is Apple sometimes slow to get internal stuff done?

  • How do I remove a device from my iCloud account?

Hi, my daughters iphone is connected to my icloud account.
How do I remove her device from that account?
    Thanks.

If you mean that she is sharing your iCloud account and you want to migrate her phone to a separate account, start by saving any photo stream photos she wants to keep on her phone to her camera roll (unless already there) by opening her my photo stream album, tapping Select, tap the photos, tap the share icon -- box with upward pointing arrow, then tap Save to Camera Roll.  If she is syncing notes with iCloud, you will need to open each one and email them to her so she can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in her new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from her phone, not from iCloud; your device will not be effected by this), choose Keep on My iDevice and provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone.  Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create her new account and choose Merge to upload her data.
Once your devices are on different accounts you can each go to icloud.com from your computer and delete the other person's data from your account.

  • HT201441 I do not know who activated my Find My Phone Device on my ipad, the pad is locked to the user's account and I cannot remove the account. Please what can I do?

Good work to the experts in the house. I have an ipad that I have been using for a while now and someone recently picked it and toyed with it. The person activated Find My Phone device on my ipad and the pad locked to his account. I have tried to reach everyone I know to remove this account but I couldn't get anyone to give a right code. The e-mail address of the person didn't show properly for me to contact who the person is, I have done recovery to the pad but still asking for the person's code. I couldn't use my ipad since this happened to me. I need somebody's help to use my pad again. Thanks.

Did you buy the iPad from someone?

De-authorize it. Or check the instructions given in the Learn about link at the top of this topic. Also check the links below the heading "More Like This" on the right side of the page.

In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

  • I accidentally removed my iPhone from manage devices in my iTunes account.  How do I get back on as a device to use my account?

I accidentally removed my iPhone from manage devices in my iTunes account.  How do I get my iPhone 5s back on as a device to use my account?

    Hi jakefrombishop,
If you changed that old ID to your current ID using Manage your Apple ID, try the following to see if it will accept your current password:
    1.     Go to Manage your Apple ID and sign on with your current Apple ID and password. EDIT the ID and change it to the old email address. This is temporary. Do NOT verify it, do NOT change the password: Apple - My Apple ID
    2.     Now on the iPhone, where it is asking for your password to turn off Find My iPhone, type in your current password
    3.     Go back to Manage your Apple ID and sign on with the old email address and your current password. EDIT the Apple ID back to your current email address. You may need to verify it again.
    Fingers crossed!

  • How the system know a device is removable

Something I find rather insecure is the way devices can be mounted by end user. In a usual configuration users are allowed to mount "removable" devices with a desktop application (that I believe use dbus). How the system does know a device is removable. I have not found any documentation on how to make a USB hard disk non removable.
It seems that in the usual configuration USB hard disk are "removable" while SATA disks are not. Yet both interfaces support about the same speed (if we use USB3) and it is entirely conceivable to have the main hard disk connected to USB. If you have a desktop computer, you can even connect your USB harddisk to a USB3 internal connector which will render the difference unnoticeable. If we think about it, usual Linux system are configured to make an essential difference in the security policy based on the physical form of the connector used to connect your hard disk; and that is quite weird. I do not think such confusing configuration can be considered secure if security is really important.

olive wrote:By the way my initial question still make sense. Suppose that you have connected your hard disk on an internal USB port. Then this disk should be considered non removable and be treated as such for everything. In this case this is exactly that: an non removable disk. Trying to emulate the behavior of a non removable disk for a disk that is still considered removable seems not very clean and error prone.
Let say you are the person responsible for making a decision of what volume is an internal one and what volume is not, how would you decide?
All you see is 4 usb ports and you cant tell which one is accessible only from within the computer and hence a case has to be opened for the port to be accessed(quoted scenario)  or the port is externally exposed and a user can plug in and out a usb device at will.Usb ports do not carry useful information in this regard and hence what hard drive is connected in what usb port is not useful information in making the decision.
Suppose now you decide to ask the disk itself if its removable or not.Your usb stick will probably say it is not, your sata drive in an enclosure will probably say it is removable since the drive can be removed from its en closer. Here, you should see a distinction need to be made between "removable" and "hot swappable".
A usb stick is non removable but hot swappable
A sata drive in an enclosure will make the sata drive "removable".The sata drive will be "hot swappable" if the enclosure is connected to the computer through a externally exposed usb port and the sata drive will not be "hot swappable" if the enclosure is connected through internally exposed usb port.
The above should show that asking the drive itself will not work in all circumstances as the drive could give misleading information.
The above should show that there is no "bullet proof" way to solve this.
I have a project called zuluCrypt[1] and i have looked at this problem extensively and it is not an easy problem to solve and a user will have to intervene sooner or later.udev has a hack somewhere that allows a user to specify what usb port is externally visible and what is not.My solution is the user maintained volume lists discussed below.
In my project,i came up with a concept of "system volume" and "non system volume".
I defined a "system volume" as a volume that has an entry in "/etc/fstab","/etc/crypttab","/etc/zuluCrypt/system_volumes.list" or if udev identify the volume as system if udev support is enabled.
i defined a "non system volume" as a volume that fail in the above criteria or if it has an entry in "/etc/zuluCrypt/nonsystem_volumes.list".
You know your computer best, the best way to solve the problem using udev is to look for the udev usb port hack and tell udev what usb port is externally accessible and what is not. This should make it easy for udev to make predictable decisions that agrees with your computer setup

I don't understand "when there is a multiple listing" above.
But here's how to remove an iPhone from your iTunes account:
Open iTunes on your computer, and go to Store > View My Apple ID in iTunes' menu.  Sign in, go to "Manage Devices", and remove it there.
