Device Alert from Cisco LMS

Hi All,
I am currently getting buried in a flurry of alerts from Cisco LMS. However when I check on the device in fault manager or with Device Diagnostic Tools, I do not see any issues. Anyone have any ideas as to why these alerts are being generated? ( I have removed our specific info with xxxx)
Additionally, I don't want to seem like I am bashing the LMS product, but could these alerts be made any more cryptic?

The alerts are quite generic.  The individual EVENT details will contain many more details.  Initially, it looks like DFM is showing you trap information relating to config  and STP changes.  If you have determined that these are not important, then you can clear the events (or mark them as acknowledged).  If you're receiving these as notifications (e.g. email notifications), you might consider creating event sets to filter the events to just the ones in which you are interested, then unchecking the boxes for alerts in your Notification Group.

Dears I have some concerns about SNMP and Cisco LMS :
Our network device sent a LINK DOWN trap to CISCO LMS followed by LINK UP trap . I can see these messages from the device logs . My questions is :
1-If the device is configured correctly to send snmp traps .And the syslog is showing both messages (LINK DOWN , LINK UP) then we can say the device is sending the snmp traps ?
2-Why the LINK UP trap is missing in Cisco LMS .. What should we check to make sure LMS is sending and receiving these alert in proper way  ???
    Thanks in advance .

    Hi ,
-If the device is configured correctly to send snmp traps .And the syslog is showing both messages (LINK DOWN , LINK UP) then we can say the device is sending the snmp traps ?
Syslogs are different from SNMP traps , If you are seeing syslogs for linkup and linkdown ,it does not mean that device is sending the SNMP traps as well.
2-Why the LINK UP trap is missing in Cisco LMS .. What should we check to make sure LMS is sending and receiving these alert in proper way  ???
You can verify the snmp trap by packet capture
    Thanks-

  • Upgrading from cisco LMS 3.0 to a latest version

    Hello,
Upgrading from cisco LMS 3.0 to a higher version.
    Whatdoes it require?.
    What is the current version?
What do we need for upgrading?
Are there specific codes or new need to buy new products?
In case of buying new products, which are the configurations?

    H Malik,
You are correct! Latest version is Cisco prime LMS 4.2. There is no direct upgrade from LMS 3.x to LMS 4.x.
    The procedure is simple:
Take backup orf old LMS --> Un-install (if same machine)--> Install new LMS --> Restore backup to get old data.
You would need to purchase new license for it.Cisco Prime LMS is now part of the Cisco Prime Infrastructure bundle and is not orderable separately. Cisco Prime Infrastructure bundle follows a size-based incremental licensing model. Device licenses can be combined and added when applied to a single server installation instance. Customers have the option of adding incremental licenses for additional devices as their network grows.Refer to the Cisco Prime Infrastructure Ordering Guide located at http://www.cisco.com/go/primeinfrastructure for the exact part number that matches your requirement and placing the order.
Currently even SmartNet or SAS contracts does not cover major upgrades from LMS 2.x and 3.x; an upgrade part number will need to be purchased to move to Cisco Prime LMS 4.2. These upgrade part numbers reflect a significant discount to protect customers' investment in the Cisco Prime product line.
The data migration process will vary depending on the LMS version from which the data need to be migrated. Migrating data to LMS 4.2:
    • LMS 4.2 supports local upgrade or direct inline upgrade only from LMS 4.0.1 and LMS 4.1.
    • LMS 4.0 customers are encouraged to install LMS 4.0.1 before doing inline upgrade to LMS 4.2.
    • LMS 3.2 and LMS 3.2 Service Pack 1 customers can do a remote upgrade through the LMS backup and restore mechanism.
    • LMS 3.1, LMS 3.0, LMS 3.0 December 2007 Update, LMS 2.6, and LMS 2.6 Service Pack 1 customers need to do a remote upgrade to LMS 4.0.1 and then upgrade to LMS 4.2.
    -Thanks

  • Upgrade Cisco LMS to PI

We currently operate Cisco Prime LMS v4.1 and we're looking to upgrade Cisco PI (Prime Infrastructure) in the next few weeks.
Is there an upgrade path from Cisco LMS to PI?  The reading I have completed seems to indicate that an upgrade can only be completed from Cisco NCS.
If I need to perform a new install of PI, can I somehow Migrate / Import my existing device database and config into the new software?  I have configured some syslog fault rules for e-mail notification, config templates, custom reports, etc, that I would also like to keep and not necessarily recreate.
    Thanks.

As cwallin noted, LMS 4.2.2 patch added the ability to migrate some information from LMS to PI.
Most customers would not be well-served by migrating a mature LMS implementation to PI at this time due to the fact that PI does not yet have feature parity with LMS, Even PI 2.0 (due out in a couple of months) will not have complete feature parity.
See this link for a current comparison.

  • CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1 and devices other than Cisco.

    Hello.
Can I use some CiscoWorks LMS functions like config management, topology, with devices other than Cisco?
    Thanks.
    Andrea

No, RME, Campus and DFM are still hardcoded to restrict to cisco devices.
HUM and IPSLA are more open.
The functionality from the HUM will allow you to monitor availablilty, interfaces and you can add OID's yourself.
IPSLA can use non cisco devices as a target for their tests.
    Cheers,
    Michel

  • Problem Exporting Backups from Cisco Prime LMS 4.2 deployed as software appliance

    Hi,
I'm trying to backup a Cisco Prime LMS4.2 based on soft appliance. I have the backup stored on destination disk://localdisk/backup/, but i can't export it via FTP to external server. When I perfrom the transfer only the folder is stored in the destination path, the files aren't included. I think that i have to compress files on the backup folder as .tar file using linux shell, but i can´t find the backup folder from this shell.
It´s correct my procedure, if not What is the procedure and commands to export a backup to external server via FTP?
    Thanks,

    Hi Dave,
If your Goal is to upgarde the IOS of  the devices via LMS  then  MANUALLY download the IOS Image from cisco.com
and use the FILE SYSTEM option to add the Image in the Software Repository
Then try to upgrade the IOS and see how it works.

  • How do I prevent iCloud alerts from appearing on all my iOS devices?

I'm stumped on how to prevent alerts from popping up on all my iOS devices on my account.  I have two iphones on my account (one is my dad's and the other is mine).  I have all of our contacts and events separated in iCloud.  For some reason even though his calendar events are unchecked on my phone, the alerts still show up on my iphone, and even though my events on my dads phone are unchecked, he still gets my alerts on his phone.  I never had this problem when our events were synced with iCal.  The last thing I want to do is create a separate account for my dad.  He never goes onto itunes on his own, and if he needs to then I'll do it for him.  Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

There doesnt seem to be a way to get around this, some things to try would be: setting your phones up under the same apple I.D. as i take it you already have - and then go into settings-icloud- and change the account so u give him a new icloud account but use the shared one for app purchases etc, i'd also advise doing the same for imessage so u dont recieve each others messages (that could be real awkward).
Hope this helps or gives u some ideas, let me know if theres anything else?
    Cheers - good luck

  • Dear All, I'm using Cisco ASA 5505 Firewall and I want the email alert from my Firewall if the CPU increase more than 70 %. Is it possible, Please help me. Thanks Vijay

    Dear All,
I'm using Cisco ASA 5505 Firewall and I want the email alert from my Firewall if the CPU increase more than 70 %. Is it possible, Please help me.
    Thanks

    Hi Vijay,
If can be done but you need any network management software. I personally dont think you can ask your ask to send mails. ASA can trigger alert to a SNMP configured server which will intern send mail to you

  • Remove device from Cisco Connect?

Help!  I want to REMOVE a device from Cisco Connect and do not see how to do it.

I have a Linksys E3000 router and using Cisco Connect. When I go to Parental controls I see network device a few times but I do not know what theyu are. Is there a way to remove device from there or is there a way to find what the mac address is of the device and then is there a way to rename it???

  • What's the username & password when i connect device from cisco network assistant

what's the username & password when i connect device from cisco network assistant?
    http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa273/wallfire02/Capture_zpsa8f5fd2b.jpg

    Although that may be true...
If I click the "Connect As..." button it asks for a username and password.
I've experienced connecting to other user's computers on a network.  To gain access to their computer, I just use their username and password.  I've done this before to transfer files without using a flash drive or burned disk.
I'm trying to find out what I'm supposed to log on as to gain access to this device...
My point is that yes, I'm connected to it by wifi.  Otherwise it wouldn't show up; ha-ha!
Is my point really that hard to grasp?

  • Cisco LMS 3.2 SYSLOG not storing after 10 days

    Hi ,
Im facing one issue with Cisco LMS 3.2
Issue : The logs is generating only for 10 days and post that im not able to see the logs. I have not done any config changes. The only change i have done is i have completely reinstalled the LMS. i did multiple troubleshoot but not able to resolve this isse. It would be great If any some one is  able to help me in this isse.  Thanks.
    Regards,
    Juliet

    Dear Vinod
Thanks for ur response and the problem has been resolved.
The purge policy was set to 60 days only .The problem in reports viewing setting.
Syslog folder under LMS would store syslog reports of both the device as well as applications for defined folder size , which in your case was 1 MB ( same can be viewed under log generator option).  The  older reports would get deleted from the folder upon reaching the limit.
The only way to view device syslog is under following option :  Reports -> Reports Generator  in LMS  GUI where we will have to choose syslog with desired attribute.
    Regards,
    Juliet

  • Cisco LMS 4.0.1 to Prime Infrastructure 2.x Upgrade

    Hello,
we are using Cisco LMS and want to upgrade to Cisco Prime Infrastructure.
Now we have received the following license update: L-L-PI2X-100-U     -      LMS to Prime Infrastructure 2.x Upgrade 100 Device
and I wonder what is the best way to upgrade.
After a long search I found the following document on cisco:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/cloud-systems-management/prime-infrastructure/guide-c07-729990.html#wp9000727
There is only the talk of the upgrade from 4.2 LMS to Prime.
The problem is that we can not update to version 4.2 because of an error. Thats one reason why we need to upgrade to prime.
Is the only possibility now to export databases?
    thanks in advance

    Hi Heiko,
Upgarding from LMS 4.0.1 to LMS 4.2  , you need a New Licesne . Are you getting that error..
Upgarding from LMS to PI is alomost like a new Installation of PI. because only thing you can IMPORT from LMS to PI is the device list .
you can download the software from the below link:
    http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=284422771&flowid=45323&softwareid=284272932&release=2.0.0&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=all
    Installation  link:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/2-0/install/guide/Cisco_PI_Hardware_Appliance_Installation_Guide/cpi_higmain.html
    hope it will help

  • Collecting information from Cisco switchs using SNMP

    Dear All,
I have a wide network with more than 250 sites connected using the DSL. the WAN devices are under the provider responsability and the LAN devices are directly in my responsability. In each site, I have :
1 or 2 Cisco switchs (2960 or 3560), connecting via fibr.
    or
Linksys switch connected via ethernet cable
    and
cisco 877 router connected to switch
cisco 881G router conected to switch
    pc and printers
In order to improve the availibilty of our network, we lauch every day a script from local pc to test connectivity of LAN equipements :
ping to switchs (Vlan 1), ping to ip fa0/0 cisco router1, ip cisco router2, ping to HSRP address (of two router). the resulting ini file will be inserted in a database and exported to excel for analysing.
I'm asking if someone can help in order to implement SNMP and let me know the name of cisco MIB to implement to :
    - to have from SNMP information, the result of show cdp nei, show interface status, show ip int brief,...
    - to have if wan router LAN interface are up,connected
    -  others usefuls informations.
    Thanks and regards,
    AA

    Hi,
the basic SNMP config for 2960 and 3560 is:
         snmp-server community <> RO
The configuration for SNMP traps to get alerts from the device if there is for example a failure with a fan is:
              snmp-server enable traps
              snmp-server host <> <>
This enables all traps available with your IOS version. You can the disable not wanted traps by using the "no"-command like this.
    Example for dot1x traps:
              no snmp-server enable traps dot1x
With a snmp client you can then do a snmpwalk (or snmp get) without a specific OID to get all the SNMP information from the device:
On a Linux server the following command should work:
         snmpwalk -v 2c -c <> -T <>
    -v = use SNMP version 2c
-c = use the community string you configured on the device
-T = output in the dotted decimal format
But be careful, this will be a lot of data output.
Here you will find a docu for configuring SNMP on a Cisco device:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_2/configfun/configuration/guide/fcf014.html
