Device Control Capture from Beta SP Deck into a G-4, Using Firewire ???

Hello,
I have been told by many people that it is possible to capture video with device control from a Beta SP deck, if you have the correct setup. But no one seems to be able to tell me exactly how using a G-4 Dual 1.25, or G-5 single processor computer. What I'm hoping to do is establish a serial interface that will allow for device control from a RS-422 circumstance. I'm hoping that I can do this, and still capture using DV- I don't want to have to resort to using a video capture card, for an assortment of reasons that I won't get into.
Question: Is there anyone out there converting video from a beta sp deck to firewire in FCP, using device control, and if so, what is your set up?

Device Control/Capture Problem

My computer set up is an HP xw9300 workstation running Windows XP. I shoot 720/60p HDV, sometimes with tape and sometimes with tape and hard drive. The cameras are JVC and the deck is the JVC BR-HD50. Although I had some difficulty getting Premiere from CS2 to recognize the deck for recording, it eventually did. No problems at all with Premiere in CS3. I recently upgraded to CS4...and haven't been able to capture anything since. In the dviice control, both under preferences and in the capture program, the settings that worked in CS2 and CS3 are JVC/Standard. Using the same settings with Premiere in CS4, device control will control the deck functions (forward/play/back), but it will not record and it will not stop the deck. I've tried all the JVC settings...none work. I've also tried to capture without device control...no soap. Anybody have any ideas as to what is going on here? Your help and suggestions are appreciated.

Capture problem when capturing from DVCPro HD Deck

I'm using Premier Pro Creative Cloud and can't seem to capture from my Panasonic HDX900 camera via IEEE firewire to my PC. My footage is 1080 60i. I can't control the camera remotely or see images in the capture monitor. The record and shuttle controls are grey-out. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Thanks Darold

Capturing from Beta SP via Canopus ADVC110 into FCP HD - HELP!

please help - desperately trying to capture into FCP HD using DV PAL 48 preset. I have BNCtoRCA adapter out of the beta SP video out going into the RVC video in of the canopus converter. Then 4 pin firewire out of the converter into my firewire 400 port. Have switched to all the correct relevant settings on the bottom of the canopus ...... but ... in my log & capture window the video appears to have no reference. i.e. black & white, scrambled. Any ideas?

Unfortunately I am sure... very confusing because you're right - that's exactly what it looks like the problem is! Sound is coming in scrambled also. If I try to capture it for longer than a couple of seconds I get an error saying there is a "problem with the source tape" Have tried every combination with the switches on the canopus box, changed cables, everything I can think of.

Capturing from Beta

Capturing: DV-PAL Widescreen 48kHz from Sony J-30 Beta compact player.
This device is equipped with Firewire port.
Could not get 16:9 format of captured or preview material.

When diverse DV devices are connected to Premiere, no any problem occured.
At beta tapes is raw material, and scene detecting would be appreciated.
This works, but format not.
I just got an advice from friend to capture as it is drag to timeline, adjust format on timeline and render to wide format.
I'm sure this works, but a pile of beta cassettes force me into something more efficient
Back in time of Pinnacle Studio, wide format capturing could be achieved. Now, this is Corel Video Studio.
Maybe capturing there works fine.
Or maybe to try HDVSplit?
I will try first yur advice about flag in vertical blank interval.

I want to capture from my Panasonic HVX200 into Final Cut!

...specifically, I want to be able to man my HVX200, which is connected to the publishing station via firewire, and capture it into FinalCut real-time creating a new file every time I start and stop recording. I'm not having any problems capturing into FinalCut when I control the camera from the PC, I just can't get Final Cut to create new files when I'm controlling from the camera.

Final Cut Pro does not segment long captures into individual clips when the source is DV.
You have at least three options:
• read up on Start/Stop detect + Subcliping
• individually log then batch capture the tape
• invest in a program like "live capture plus" from Squarebox. It will take a DV tape and segment it into individual clips based on start/stop information.

Capturing from a DV deck

I have been trying to capture a DV tape from a deck using Final Cut Pro 6, though there are timecode breaks on the tape so it is not working. Someone on the Final Cut Pro message board suggested using iMovie to do this.
1. Can I capture in iMovie using a DV deck?
2. Where is the option to do this?

It will probably allow you to do this if the devices is recognized or assumed to be a camcorder device by iMovie '08. As to the timecode breaks, if it imports from the device, they will likely be interpreted as breaks between clips.

I am new to iTunes. How do I transfer files of Powerpoint slides into iTunes from PC and then into my iPad for use at a meeting

I am new to iTunes and the iOS in general, having just migrated from Android devices. Please advise as to how I can easily transfer files of Powerpoint slides in documents on my PC into iTunes, so that I can use Adobe or other app to get them into my iPAD to be able to use them at a conference. I have had an iTunes account for a while, but never really taken the time to learn to use it. Now I have two computers, with two different versions of iTunes, with content on one that I want to transfer to the other. Or I'd like to directly access the older libarary from the new computer.
There are a number of ways you might achieve this. The following article(s) may help you.

Alternatively you might just use home sharing to share the libraries.
Plus I have some videos and audio CD's that I have never imported, and would like to bring them into iTunes and store on an external hard drive to keep from loading up my computer. I have no idea how to accomplish all of this, and cannot find clear instructions on the website. Is there a screen where I can access written step-by-step instructions? I don't have the time or patience to play around and do it by trail and error. Thanks.
If you place a CD into the CD drive, iTunes will ask you if you want to import it.
If you want iTunes to store content on an external drive, you need to tell it to do so, which you do at iTunes preferences > Advanced.

Can I receive emails from 2 different addresses into a single account using TB?

I want to combine all emails from both addresses into a single account in TB.
I have already tried adding the 2nd account using "Manage Identities" but it did not work for me. The default is gmail and the 2nd is not.

Can you explain this?
I found this on Mozilla site. But, in my updated TB, i can find no such thing as a "root" folder that shows all incoming emails. only the "Child" folders show.....

No communication with device control through AJA Io?

So this is weird (to me). I'm trying to capture a few Beta tapes and can't seem to get the device control going. For whatever reason I'm getting the "No Communication" message in my Log and Capture window. Of course, I'm getting the image in the window, but I can't control the deck through Log and Capture.
My settings seem right:
-Deck in remote mode
-FCP set to AJA Io device control
-Capture settings at AJA Io Betacam to DV (I know this isn't a problem because I can see the image)
-I have unplugged and reset each cable in each port on the deck, Io, and computer
The only thing I can think about is that the last footage I captured was from my MiniDV camera, so I must have tweaked some kind of a setting that I don't know about. Any thoughts?

Device control: AJA Io RS-422 NTSC
The RS-422 cable is connected to both the deck and the AJA. The Firewire cable is connected to my 400 port and the AJA.
There has to be some kind of a problem with my 400 port, because I just daisy chained the AJA (which only uses a 400 cable) through my Lacie drive, which is connected to the laptop through the 800 port.
Is there an explanation for this? Hopefully besides, "Sounds like your 400 port chucks it, Stef. Time to go get a new one."

Sony device control for HVR V1E in FCS2

This is a question for Apple really.
Can we get a Sony device control that works with the V1?
I have Final Cut Studio 2, and I've just had the biggest headache trying to get the thing to capture from my camera. I've had to use the Firewire Basic 25 setting just to get it working, but that's far from perfect.
The problem with all of them seems to be a delay - FCP always ends up 'searching for media' or just fails altogether. It's not because of broken timecode either.

I know exactly what you're saying. I thought this was how the camera worked too.
The confusing thing is this: having recorded at 25P on the camera I did various capture set ups in FCP. On the 1080i setting, I got an interlaced picture (the way I noticed this was by spinning the image a little in Motion). To try to remedy this effect I set up for HDV 25P, and lo and behold, no interlacing - no jagginess when spinning the image.
Interesting, no? Trouble is, FCP doesn't seem to like my camera whatever settings I use.

Can i capture from an analog 16x9 source

Can i capture from an analog 16x9 HD source (SAT-TV) using analog (S-Video) output using a Canopus ADVC-100 into FCP 4.x and preserve the anamorphic aspect ratio? If so, how do I go about doing this (meaning, if this will even work - I'm fairly certain that the SAT box will output the 16x9 flag on s-video - what settings do i use in FCP to capture that aspect?

actually i am allowed to record from TV... i'm using the analog to do this. HRA allows me to do this - There are plenty of units out there that have tivo and a dvd burner that are legal) - all I'm doing is using my mac. Remember the VCR? this is no different as I am not going digital to digital or bypassing any DRM. Not to mention, I'm taping some docs that aren't even avaialble to purchase. ;(
Also, its just for my personal use. Just to have an archive of the show.

Cant not upload pictures from my SD card into FCE through canon xha1s firewire. Is there another way? The strange part is when I originally hooked my canon up to the Imac iphoto saw the camcorder as a device and I do not what has happen since then. I just bought the camcorder and would like to take advantage of the photo capabilities as well as the video. All help would be greatly appreciated.

The card video stuff will most likely load into iPhoto when you tranfer the stills. USB connection only.
The video on the card will be a highly compressed, small dimensioned format and won't work directly with FCE and not over firewire in any shape or form.
However, you could take the clips from iPhoto and convert them to an FCE freindly format such as the DV codec. Streamclip is a free application that can do the job.

Capture Now with Non-Controllable Device and Timecode from deck

Hi,
Trying to replace a windows laptop using premiere during our events.
The mentioned system will allow me to get audio/video/timecode all through firewire from the deck AND allow me to "capture now" as a non-controllable device.
I have not been able to find out how to do this with FCP6. I am able to get the timecode I need, but only with the "controllable" device settings I have thus far tried, at which point a "capture now" gives me an error message stating that the tape has ran out (or something of the sort)
With "Non-Controllable Device" selected, I can "capture now" but the slot where the deck's timecode had been located is completely gone and no timecode was recorded on any of the test clips I tried.

I'm confused.
The DSR 45A only has one firewire port, if you are plugging your computer into that to source the video, where is the video and timecode source feeding the DSR-45A coming from?
Within the DSR 45A there are internal menu selections that specify the timecode behavior of the DSR-45A, are these menu settings correct?
If you load a pre-recorded tape into the DSR-45A can you control the deck, and successfully capture from it as a controlled device from your FCP computer?

What are the formats of these decks? Is the timecode feeding the DSR-45A coming from one of them?
