Device disappeared from finder

Snap Gav
I dragged the seagate 1 t hard dirve icon from finder into desk top to enable moving data from one external source to another.
The icon shattered in desktop and now the mac book pro ( mountain Lion ) won't recognise the hard drive - it does recognise another seagate hard drive
I have looked in desk top, looked in applications, logged of and on, removed after logging off, ,..,. harddrive still lights and vibrates quietly
how can I use it again ?
MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), Aperture

installation advert said that  improvements mavericks contained,  Mac said that all open windows fell neatly into one window rather than hiding behind one another - making it easier to return to - I've lost how to get back to their advert as to improvements but that's the gist
HOWEVER I find no way of loading all open pages into one
ALSO
machine has slowed down considerably since loading mavericks - can this effect be reversed ?

  • 4.x devices disappeared from Find map

Since few days ago my iOS 4.x devices ( iPod, iPhone 3G) can't be located on Find My iPhone map either on iCloud.com or with any FindMyiPhone app on any iOS device. All other devices having iOS 5.x can be located on the map.
On my both 4.x devices I have switched FindMyPhone feature on/off few times but it does not effect in any way. No problems while signing to MobileMe service though.
FindMyPhone is the only possible feature available as MobileMe service on 4.x devices and it worked fine till recently.
    Any advise?

Keep checking over the next week. Things seem to disappear when they're updating the database with ready dates etc.

  • Stolen iPad: When data erased after 10 failed passcodes, will the device also disappear from "Find My iPad"?

Very shortly after someone lifted my iPad, the device disappeared from the list of devices in "Find my iPhone". iOS 7 was installed on it and "Find my iPad" enabled and "erase data" was enabled for the passcode.  Is there any other reason why the iPad no longer appears in the list of devices?

When I disconnect my iphone 3gs(iOS) from computer, the device disappears from my itunes. This prevents me from doing a wireless sync. how do i fix it so that my device stays on itunes without having to plug it in all the time?
it worked the first few times i did it but the next day after i closed out of itunes once, the device only appears when i plug in my phone.

Whenever a menu choice is grayed out, that is because you have Restrictions turned on in Settings.  Be sure to turn it off.
You are confusing an itunes store account with an icloud account.  You two can continue using the same ID for itunes (thus sharing purchased music, apps, etc.), but you really should have separate accounts (different IDs) for icloud, since an account is intended for one user to keep his/her devices in sync.
To create a new icloud account, go to
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
Then go to Settings>icloud and scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Delete Account.  (have restrictions turned off)  That will disconnect the device from the account but will not delete data in icloud or other devices.  Then sign in using the new ID.

  • WD MyBook World Edition disappeared from Finder

I have had a Western Digital My Book World Edtition network drive connected for several years that worked without issue.  It recently disappeared from Finder and I cannot figure out how to restore access.  I have seen numerous posts on this but no definitive corrective actions.  I think it must be a simple fix.  I do not use Time Machine.

    verify on another Mac.
Dont buy WD consumer HD anymore, rather Hitachi or Toshiba.
Likely a dead SATA card, a very common issue, see here:
Your dead external hard drive is likely fine! Great hope for your 'faulty' external HD

  • Ipad got stolen and then disappeared from "Find my IPhone"

    Hello friends.
Few days ago Igot my IPad stolen. Once I found that out I have attempted to track it via "Finde my Iphone" app. Well it was switched off. I have sent the blocking command with the password and message. Nevertheless my Ipad just disappeared from Iclouds.
Please tell me, does it mean that my IPad has been nulled?
Couse otherwise there is a problem as most of my SMS messages got dublicated from my Iphone to IPad, and that is really ot good (BTW Apple made a big misstake doing so, they should have asked user befor enabling that feature, many persons had problems due to that).
Your comments will be very appriciated! Thank you in advance!

  • While extracting file during restore, device disappear from iTunes; then error message "device cannot be found" pop up

After failing to update iphone OS, now iphone is in restore mode
Device Manager recognize USB is connected to iphone with Location: Location 0 (Apple Mobile device (recovery mode))
IPhone in "connect to itunes" screen
After connect to itunes, message "itunes has detected iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this iphone before it can be used with itunes." appear.
In Device -> iphone screen, after clicking "Restore" button, itunes status become "Extracting software..."
During extracting software process, iPhone change from "connect to itunes" screen to just "apple logo", then go back to "connect to itunes" screen; but at the same time device-iphone disappear from itunes; once itunes complete extracting software, error message comes out "The iphone "iphone" could not be restored. The device cannot be found"
Tried again few times with all USB device removed & turn off all the anti-virus software and all other non window / non-apple softwares; but same thing happened.
so now I'm stuck.... please help.

after reading loads of forum, I didn't find anyone with the exact issue as mine. But I've followed some of the restore issue solution and now I've fixed my phone. Yeah! maybe not all the steps are necessary, but here was what I've done to fix it:
    1.     update itunes
    2.     Ensure Apple Mobile device driver is updated and work (i.e. iphones is detected in device manager)
    3.     run "msconfig", ensure all other non microsoft / non apple softwares are off
              - Services: only enable all microsoft services, apple mobile device and bonjour service
              - Startup: only enable QTTask & iTunesHelper
    4.    Restart computer
    5     turn on itunes
    6.    connect iphones via USB.
    7.     itunes show iphone in device column, but iphone still stay in "connect to itunes" screen
    8.     Hold Sleep button + Home button until the screen goes dark (iphone disappear from itunes device column at the same time), then just keep holding the home button (without holding the sleep button)
    9.     first time, though itunes showa iphone in the device column again, but iphone screen go from apple icon straight to "connect to itunes" screen and stay there again.
    10.     I repeat step 8, this time though itunes show iphone in the device column again, but the iphone screen stay dark showing nothing (instead of showing "connect to iTunes" screen)
    11.     then I click restore in itunes, this time it manages to finish extracting software without iphone restarting itself during the process; itunes find the iphone and complete the restore.
    12.     As I do backup all the time, now I just need to sync all the files / setting back to iphone, everything back to normal again.
still not sure what happened to my phone, but now it's fix =>

  • Network Drives Disappear from Finder Intermittently

I'm periodically having problems with my Mac recognizing an Iomega Home Media Network Drive. Everything's connected together using an Airport Extreme. Usually the drive will show up under the "Shared" category in the Finder, and I can connect and use it normally.
Every once and awhile, it disappears from that list. I can still connect manually using Go->Connect to Server, but the Finder doesn't pick it up on its own. After a few days or weeks, it'll just show up in the shared list again. No amount of restarting/repairing permissions will fix it. For example, my drive has been missing for about a week now, and after doing nothing special it decided to show back up while I was typing this post.
I've seen this topic come up periodically on the boards, but I couldn't find anything recent or with a solution. Has anyone encountered or come up with a fix for this?
    Thanks,
    -Jason

I have an Iomega drive that is also fidgety on the network, either in Leopard (when problem arose) or SL (when I found my solution). I actually had to view my drive under the sidebar path ComputerName> Network> AirPortEx> Iomega Drive because I kept getting errors when I tried to view in column view from the shared section despite having the drive set to ignore permissions.
Firstly, this is what I call a workaround, not a fix, as recognition of the drive doesn't work seamlessly in Finder as advertised, but required these extra steps in order for me to always see the drive in the sidebar. Secondly, it may not be absolutely necessary to do all these things, and I am assuming you have the authority on your network to do all these things, but here's what I've done to get my satisfaction:
    1. Make sure you set servers to mount on the desktop in Finder prefs and that connected servers and bonjour computers are set up to show in the sidebar
    2. Use connect to server if you have to and mount the drive to your desktop
    3. Once the drive is on your desktop, open system prefs and go to your login items under Accounts & Authenticate by clicking the lock on the lower left and entering your password
    4. Drag the network drive into your login items (and dock, sidebar, or window toolbar if desired)
    5. Restart
This may not be the fix you hoped for. You do seem to have to keep the drive mounted, etc. But I do always see it in my sidebar under sharing now, and have no problems viewing anything on it from wherever in the Finder I try to access it (whether from the sidebar in the shared section or under the network area of my computer, in the dock, or from the toolbar). At the very least you never have to Connect to Server again. Hit the drive icon in the dock and it will connect if you get disconnected.
FYI: Make sure you always choose the "ignore" button when/if alerts pop up to tell you that you have been disconnected from the drive because you'll have to remount otherwise. These alerts occur to me only when waking my MBP from sleep. I wait 2-3 seconds, and click on the icon of my Iomega drive that I have in my sidebar, toolbar, or dock and it shows contents just fine, still connected after all.

  • External Airport Extreme HD disappeared from Finder

    Hi everyone,
My external HD connected to the Airport Extreme antenna has disappeared from the Finder. I have been using it yesterday night and this morning was not there anymore. In the meantime none has touched my Mac.
I have rebooted the Airport Extreme via Utility Airport with no success.
    Can anyone help me, please?
    Thanks,
    Francesco.

If a network drive disappears, you'll have to mount it again by hand. Do you see your AirPort Extreme in the "sidebar" of a Finder window? If so, select that to start the mount process.

  • Firewire HD disappeared from finder

    Hello-
I have a Seagate FW harddrive attached to my Mac Pro. It's icon recently disappeared from my desktop and finder. It still shows up in disk utility though. I have tried ejecting it and unplugging it and letting it sit. Still no luck. My finder preferences are set to show HD's (my main HD shows up fine). Those are the 2 common fixes I've read about here...anyone have any ideas?
    thanks!
    matt

Almost all vendor style FW cases come as FAT32, and I doubt they use Oxford 911+ FireWire bridge.
There are other reports of FW drives failing to show that once did. WD MyBook Pro a couple times.
Using a PCIe FireWire controller may help, but at least some required replacement from Apple.
It use to be pretty much required after the 10.3.0 problem with FW drives to never run an OS update with a FW drive connected, even like recent Security Update.
In any event, anytime you suspect hardware issue of any kind it is probably prudent to run Apple Hardware Test; check System Profile: Firewire (so ports and bus show up?) as first step.
SMC Reset would also be a good idea. With LaCie they often recommended unplugging power and every cable going into and from the Mac for 15 minutes to discharge or bleed any current.
Plugging equipment into UPS might not solve this issue, but can't hurt and may prevent problems.
Safe Mode: hold down shift key (mentioned a couple times in Apple.com/support
Single User Mode: command + s
    Verbose Mode: command + v
Repairing a FW drive in SUM would be more challenge than it is worth. Usually only the boot drive gets repaired or mounted.
FW PCIe: Aaxeon is one of your best bets. Can run $109 for FW800.

  • Ipod wont stay connected and icon disappears from finder

I have a new 80g video ipod, have had it for about three weeks. Up until today all was fine, but now it won't stay connected to itunes after updating files. It connects, shows up on the desk top for a few seconds, updates any new files and then just drops out. It keeps the do not disconnect screen for a few seconds, then the red warning logo disappears and after that i can not do anything with the ipod in itunes. The ipod music list is greyed out and I can't add any new photos or change anything. The only thing I have done differently since it was last working ok was I connected my camera using the camera connector and uploaded some pictures from that.
I have done a reset and now a restore but that hasn't helped.
is the problem with the ipod or itunes? What can I do?

Sorry, this may be a case of "always read the manual first"!
I think that what I thought was a fault with the ipod was in fact due to the default preference for auto syncing being enabled. As I had my previous ipod set to manual update I was used to being able to make changes to the ipods lists whilst connected, but as my new ipod is still set to automatically sync I now realise that this is why the ipods list was greyed out. In this mode it appears that it is usual that as soon as you connect, itunes updates any changes and then disconnects and the red "do not disconnect" screen on the ipod goes. If there were no new additions or changes to playlists made since the last time you connected, the sync will only take a few seconds and then the ipod screen goes back to the menu list. Also, because in auto sync the ipod will be updated with a copy of your itunes contents, the ipod's list is greyed out due to the fact that you are not able to make changes independently from your itunes list. (i.e. you have to make the changes in itunes in order for these to be replicated on the ipod).
In order to keep connected and be able to alter things on the ipod list you have to have the preference set to manually update. Then the ipods contents are not greyed out and you can add, delete and change playlists without doing this in your main itunes on the computer.
So I think I have answered my own question, unless I am still misunderstanding something here, and the moral is, download and read the manual properly before worrying that there is something wrong with the machine!
I still think its a bit weird that the ipod icon disappears from he desktop though as I thought it would be at least recognised as being attached even if not in disc mode. Should it still show in the finder anyway?

  • IDisk shortcuts disappear from Finder's Places

I've been having this problem regularly with Snow Leopard. I like to make shortcuts from my iDisk into the Places section of Finder so I can access the folders quickly. Works flawlessly in 10.5. In 10.6 they work but they always start disappearing whenever I shut down or reboot. If I leave the computer running, everything remains as it should. When I reboot or shut down, a few of my links will disappear. I make no changes to the folders and the exact same entries continue to remain in 10.5 but in 10.6 they disappear.
I mentioned this to Apple support once and I was basically accused of imagining the problem or doing something else to cause it but I know the problem is not user error.
Anyone else have anything similar happen? Suggestions?

if the problem is with some preferences in your home directory it will survive a reinstall of SL as the reinstall never touches the home directory.
I don't have mobileme but I don't think it actually syncs your sidebar settings.
but if you want to eliminate that possibility try resetting your mobileme sync data
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1497
and maybe even resetting the sync folder
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
of course, you can also try asking in the mobileme forum.

  • MacBook Device Missing from Find iPhone

My MacBook Pro which I have been using since 2009 was stolen a few weeks back and came online (saw it sign in on Teamviewer on my iPad).  I used the Find iPhone app to remotely lock my MacBook Pro and put a message on it stating that the device had been stolen with my contact particulars on the screen.
My insurance company requires details of the MacBook Pro and now if I sign into the Find iPhone app on iCloud, my MacBook Pro no longer is listed as one of my devices.
How is this possible?  Where would I get the serial number of my MacBook Pro?

    Hi ..
For the serial number >  How to find the serial number of your Apple hardware product
The Mac may be turned off which would explain why it's not available under Devices.
