  • Pavillion dv6000: "Device driver" install failure for DVD/CD drive

The laptop does not install the DVD/CD drive anymore.  Message says the driver for this device failed to install. It is not assigned a drive letter in Win Explorer. Device Manager shows the drive as recognized, but has the yellow triangle/exclamation point...Properties says driver is missing or corrupt.  Needless to say, I know of no "driver" for a CD drive (in modern machines, at least), and nothing related shows up in the driver list on HP webstie for this laptop. I did reinstall the chipset drivers as well as some other driver updates; no change.  Re-seating the drive didn't help.
I also replaced the original drive with another, and got the same result...driver install failure.
    Any solutions?
    Thanks

Yes you need to remove upper and lower filters from the registry. Microsoft has a KnowledgeBase article about it with an autofix, but I have had better luck manually editing the registry:

  • New install, now what?  Testing vod

Sorry to be a noob, but I have installed and am evaluating Adobe Media Server for our organization.
I have installed fms on a linux machine, the URL of the index page is : http://mydomain/fms/
    It plays the sample videos.
I'm reading the Dev Guid, it says "To stream files over RTMP only, copy files to RootInstall/applications/vod/media. To stream files over RTMP and allow progressive download over HTTP, copy files to RootInstall/webroot/vod."
Ok, great.  I uploaded my videos.  There's one called:  RootInstall/applications/vod/media/videotest.flv.
    Now what?
I can access the videos in /webroot/vod directly through the browser. http://mydomain/fms/vod/vid.flv
How do I stream the video in RootInstall/applications/vod/media/videotest.flv ?
I want to embed the flash player in a web page on a different server, but I can't figure out how to.
Is there some documentation more like a "User's Guide" other than the install docs and dev guide?
    Thanks,
    Jeph

    Hi Jeph,
The Dev Guide has an example of creating a media player from scratch -- the files are installed with FMS:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashMediaServer/3.5_Deving/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d11a0773d1 17-7fc8.html#WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d11a0773d117-7fe5
There are links on the bottom of that page to pre-built media players you can use, including the FLVPlayback component. The link I think you should check out is a DevNet article that walks you through using the FLVPlayback component:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashmediaserver/articles/beginner_vod_fm3.html
After you test locally, upload the SWF file(s) and HTML file to your web server and leave the FLV file in the vod/media folder. To see the video, just open the HTML page in a browser. When you press play, the FLVPlayback component contacts FMS and plays the video.
    Hope that helps,
    Jody

  • I had to have my computer reimaged and a new Hard Drive installed - now I cannot sync my apple products - It says that my device is attached to an itunes library already - what to do?

I have recently had to reimage my computer and installed a new hard drive - I had apple deauthorize all of my computers however now that I have installed Itunes everytime I hook up any of my "I" products it says that it cannot sync them because they are already attached to another Itunes LIbrary - The library was the one that was on my computer which had the Hard Drive crash so it does not exist anymore- Any thought on what I need to do? I am about to come unglued with all of this hubub! - Thanks for the help

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just this occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.

  • I bought dragon dictate with my mac pro. NO DVD DRIVE.. now what do i do?

Can I return it and just get the dragon express in apps? My mom got this Mac book for school and I am paralyzed. I need a talk to text app. She bought the Dragon and we did not know the mac did not have a dvd drive (this is my first mac) PLEASE HELP. CAn we return the dragon dictate?

    You have a couple options.
Depending on where and when you purchased the Dragon software, they will possibly, even likely, allow you to return the software if it is unopened.  If you've already opened the packaging, it will obviously be more difficult to return.  In that case, you might try reaching out to the folks at Dragon and explaining the situation.  If they use license/activation numbers, it should be pretty easy for you to prove to them you haven't activated the software, and they might swap it or offer a refund.
Another option is to use an external DVD drive to install the software.  You could purchase such a device (newegg.com, amazon.com, apple.com).  Or, a better option would be to visit an Apple store, and ask them to install the software for you.  That won't cost you a dime.
Don't fret!  There are plenty of good solutions available to you.  Good luck!

  • Replaced Hard Drive. Now what?

HI, there aren't any Apple techs in area, so after talking to Apple Support  via phone I replaced the hardware on my MacBook Pro (early 2011) myself.  I am a little lost as what the next step is. I was not able to save anything on my computer but I do have an external hard drive. The bad news is I hadn't backed up for about a month and not sure what if anything is on iCloud.
Do I just turn on the computer and plug in external hard drive and do some kind of transfer or do I need to download Safari and Maverick (I think that is what I had) first?
Does anyone have a link where I can get directions?
    THanks for any help.

If you have access to another Mac, sign into the App Store with your Apple ID and download Mavericks. You can make a bootable USB stick to install using this free program. It does all the work for you.

  • Backup drive full - now what should I do?

Time machine said the partition on the backup drive I'm using for TM backups is full. What surprising is that according to OSX, there are 111 gb available on that partition & 121 gb used. Why do you think TM thinks it’s full?
Also, it only gave me the options of using another external drive or choosing to stop backing up certain files. Since the first backup that TM does is a full backup & the subsequent ones are incremental backups, I thought of deleting all the incremental backups, leaving the full backup, & then starting TM. Would that work, i.e. would it compare the files on the Mac to the full backup & then back up any changed or new files?
In any case, I didn’t get the chance to do that since all the old files were deleted & all that’s left is 1 successful backup from earlier today & 1 discontinued backup from today. Assuming that the successful backup from earlier today is an incremental, what should I do now? If I erase it, will TM do a full backup?
    TIA,
    Ellen

I've had a quick chat on the phone with one of my people and they do know of such things but have stressed that this is only possible if Bluetooth is enabled or wifi and connected to a network which means someone on the same network has or was doing this - If it's bluetooth and lets say one of the friends sent you an app to sideload via bluetooth then consider this person to not be a friend - To fully clean your phone I would not recomend a factory reset I would in cases like this perform a system repair see below for details
This will factory reset your phone
Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the onscreen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process
If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

  • MacBook Pro Hard drive replaced, now what?

    Hi,
A couple of days ago we took our MacBook Pro to the Apple store to have it looked up. We had been getting the blinking question mark file folder. They told us the hard drive needed to be replaced. The lady said doing it ourselves was faster, easy, and cheaper. So we bought a new internal hard drive and put it in. We then talked to a man at Apple who gave us specific instructions on what to do from there. We opened up disk utility and started the partitioning. However, it froze midway and stayed there all night. The next morning I called Apple again. The lady told me to shut it down and start all over. So I shut it down and started internet recovery again. Then I tried to do the disk utility again. It didn't work. I was then told to erase the drive and try starting over, because there was something on it from the initial attempt at partitioning it. However, it is now frozen again and says that it is going to be another 4 hours, and the time continuously increases. What is going on? If I turn it off and try to start over what will happen? What should I do from here? Please help!! We need this computer for grad school classes that start tomorrow!!
    Thank you SO much!

    wbagnew,
which model MacBook Pro do you have?

  • Restoring data on new drive, time machine can't find old drive because it backed up my old clone drive instead. now what?

My hard drive failed on MB Pro 2008. i was able to start up using a super duper bootable clone on an iomega external drive (the clone was from 6 months ago unfortunately). once the computer started up, it saw the failed drive and i was able to retrieve some new data created since my last time machine backup 10 days ago. i then plugged in another external drive with my time machine backup on it and tried  to backup the failed harddrive once more before going to buy a new HD and getting rid of the failed one. INSTEAD  of backing up the real HD, time machine backed up the clone drive which is 6 months old. now that i have a new HD and OS 10.6.3, when i try to restore data from the last time machine backup of the real HD (12/27/12), the only option i'm getting is from the backup of the CLONE drive which is 6 months older. i know the info is there but the transfer data option isn't seeing that drive. what do i do???

If I understand you correctly, you have a Clone of your original internal HDD and a Time Machine HDD that backed up the Clone.  If it backed up the Clone HDD and deleted the prior backups, then your data is gone.  If it backed up the Clone for only the changes made since the Clone was created, the data should be there.
Open Time Machine and see what actually is there.  If you cannot open it,  Click on the Time Machine icon on your desktop.  It will give you a display showing one folder (Backups.backupdp).  Open that folder and it will show another single folder.  Open that one and it should display folders that are dated for each day/week that backups have been made.
If there are 'old' folders in there, you can access the data by opening then up as the image below indicates:
It may be tedious, but it is better than not having the data.
    Ciao.

  • BB 7230 wrong device driver installed

    Hi,
I mistakenly installed the 7280 device code on my computer for my 7230 device. Was trying to upgrade the device since the reception was poor.
Now, the desktop manager (v 4.2 and 5.1) do not communicate with the device at all. as soon as i plug the blackberry into the USB, the desktop manager goes into "working" mode so i cannot synchronise or do anything with the desktop software while the blackberry remains plugged in.
Question: how do i get the 7230 device code back (newest version ideally but any edition will do)? It is an old model so finding it hard to locate the device code.
    Thank you!!

Ideally, BlackBerry Desktop Manager version 4.2.2 or lower would be preferred as it has the appropriate drivers for the 7230 included.  Its possible some of the files may have become corrupt during the installation of the handheld software or BlackBerry Desktop Manager version 5.0.
I would suggest doing a clean uninstall of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and reinstall the 4.2 software.
For instructions on how to perform the clean uninstall, see the following link:

If you need the BlackBerry Desktop Manager version 4.2, you can download it at http://www.blackberry.com/go/softwaredownloads

  • Freeze during install - Now what?

The first time I tried to install it froze with (it claimed) 12 minutes to go. I was performing an 'archive and install'.
The second time, it worked. Unfortunately, the 'previous systems' folder now had two prior systems and my user account was in the older one - therefore it did not get preserved as an active user. The files are still there, but no user.
I was forced to create a new user at restart and made it with a 'short name' slightly different than the old one.
How do I restore the old user, including the old short name? I know I can create a new user with the old short name, but (on top of any other mistakes I made) I copied the old user folder into the User folder. I am concerned that creating a new user with that short name will make the computer over-write my old user folder.
I have seen others mention the Migration Assistant. Will that work for me?
In case it will help, I am in the process of copying the entire 'previous system' to my iPod (connected via firewire).

Then, it still exists in the Previous System folder. Create the new account using the same username/password combo, delete the one you created with the slightly different name, copy the old user folder from Previous System, and merge it with the new one.
