Device Manager in Windows 7 won't populate

My device manager won't populate in Win 7 Premium. It started after I tried to install a video card, but could never get it installed, so I took it out & reverted to onboard graphics. I tried 2 different video cards-a Radeon 6450 & an Nvidia 8600
GT with no success. The computer would not recognize them. It's an HP p6310f about 2 years old. How do I get Device Manager to populate again?

  • T61p - IEEE 1394 (Firewire) port does not show up in device manager in Windows 7 x64

I have a T61p.  On the front, in the left corner, right next to the wireless on/off switch, is a IEEE 1394 (Firewire) port.  However, if I plug anything into it, it's not recognized by Windows, and if I go into the device manager in Windows, there is no IEEE 1394 host manager or ports or anything listed there.
I have rebooted and gone into the BIOS, and I don't see anything in there about 1394 either.  Is the port there, but the hardwire inside is missing?  Do I need to enable it somehow?

Let me clarify that.  I have something in the device manager called "SD Host Adapters", and under that "SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller".  That thing has a Microsoft driver.
However, under "IDE ATA/ATAPI contollers", I do see "Ricoh Memory Stick Contoller", "Ricoh SD/MMC Host Contoller", and "Ricoh xD-Picture Card Contoller".
I also have "PCMCIA adapters" that has "Ricoh R/RL/5C476(II) or Compatible CardBus Contoller".
So, it would seem I have the right drivers for the card reader, I'm just missing anything for the IEEE 1394 contoller...

  • Microphone doesn't appear in the Device Manager in Windows 7

I'm using Windows 7 64 Bit OS on my MacBook Pro, clean installation, not based on Bootcamp, no MAC OS installed (required by our company otherwise I can't access corp network). Now my problem is that the speakers are working properly, but I can't use the internal microphone as it doesn't show up in the device manager. Cirrus  Logic CS4206A (AB28) latest driver is installed. External headset with microphone works fine. Any help welcome, thanks in advance.

I disabled my microphone in Bootcamp Win7 Ultimate 64B and now it is completly gone. I used the Windows support CD I made and re-installed the 64B Cirrius drivers but the microphone is no where to be found also missing in device manager as well as Control Panel Audio.

  • No Audio Output Device is installed Windows 8 - no audio device detected in Device Manager

OS: Previously using Windows 8.1, now rolled back to Windows 8.
    HP Pavilion p7-1423w
    Product Number: H3Z92AA#ABA
This just seemed to happen on its own follwing a standard Microsoft Windows update. Suddenly, there is a red X on the speaker displayed down in the taskbar area, with the message: No Audio Output Device is installed. This originally happened using Windows 8.1. I tried numerous suggestions and nothing seemed to relate to my problem. Checking the Device Manager is Windows is useless, because no audio device is even detected. Drivers cannot be updated when no device is recognized as existing. I checked in the computer setup prior to booting to Windows and I cannot find anywhere to turn audio on. I thought that possibly audio had been disabled, at the source. Either that or the onboard audio on the motherboard has completely failed.
Hoping that a reset to factory settings would help, I backed up all of my data and proceeded with the reset. Now back to Windows 8, the same issue exists with the original factory settings. No audio output device detected.
Can onboard audio be enabled somewhere in the setup? OR is my motherboard's onboard audio fried?

Only option that I see in the BIOS is under Security.  Audio Device: Hidden or Available. It was set to available and I left it at that. Still no audio.
Really? Nothing? This computer is one year old. Absolutely no reason for this to be happening. What a joke.

  • Windows 7 won't install any Audigy 2 ZS drivers

I did a clean install of Windows 7 and noticed right away, that the drivers for my Audigy 2 ZS didn't get installed. Here is the error I was given via device manager / properties for card:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
This operation requires an interacti've window station.
    Drivers I've tried:
From Windows Update, dated October 4, 2008<
    Creative's website, Driver version?2.8.00, dated July 3 2009
Creative's website, Beta driver version 2.8.00, dated Oct 2009
    Creative's website, Vista driver 2.2.0002, dated March 6, 2007
    danielk's audigy support pack 3.5
When I tried the Creative executables and danielk's support pack, I do not get any errors during any parts of the install(s).
Windows Updates says the install failed with unknown reason. When I attempt to "update driver" through device manager, it says it finds the driver but it gives me the same error as mentioned?above: This operation requires an interactive window station.
What else can I try? I've also done an "upgrade" install of Windows 7 on top of the clean install (out of desperation). At this point, I feel like reloading my XP imaged install,?so I can have working audio again.
So, please, if there is something I can try, then please help. Is there a way to do a "logged" install and send it to someone at Creative?
    Thanks for your time

So, just to update everyone on my situation. I think my issue was caused by the migration tool, Windows Easy Transfer.
I formatted the partition the partition that Windows 7 was installed on, and did a fresh reinstall. Upon first boot of the new reinstall, the audio drivers were still not installed. I then immediately tried to "update drivers" via device manager and Windows installed the latest beta drivers from October , 2009 with no errors.
Is there any reason why the install won't install the drivers on its own? Did it not ship with Audigy 2 ZS drivers?

  • No "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" node in device manager

I have a new computer running Windows 7. It is functioning well, apart from the firewire card not being recognized. I can see that the BIOS does see the firewire card. Pages on the web offering advice on this kind of problems start their solutions with going
to the device manager and expanding the "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" node in the device tree. Only I don't have such a node. How can I get the "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" node to appear in the device manager?
Windows update reports that Windows is up to date.

This is one of many threads I came across googling roughly 'IEEE 1394 device not showing up in device manager'. After a lot of reading I never found a real solution - until I started piecing some things together. This is what I did and it works, seems very
simple, logical. Thought I should share it, hopefully save someone else the agony of searching and reading for hours.
Basically, what I think is or can be happening -- and I'm no expert at all -- is that there's miscommunication between the OS, the bus, and the device. The OS doesn't install the service for the bus unless the device is plugged in at startup (the external
hard drive, camera, or whatever), and sometimes it doesn't install the service even if the device is plugged in. Perhaps the device is supposed to send a message that starts the service - who knows. Maybe on older devices the driver isn't doing what it's supposed
to do, and perhaps you have no updated driver and can't get one.
In any event, I edited an entry in the registry that tells the 1394 bus host controller to start at OS startup instead of 'on demand'. After a restart, the bus host will load at startup, and when you plug your firewire device in, the bus host will detect
it and run normally... At least it works for me. Here's the instructions:
Go to search, regedit.exe, run program. This opens the registry.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurentControlSet\Services and find the folder that corresponds to the 1394 bus host you normally use or see in device manager. On my computer it's 1394ohci. You might have to do a little digging here to make sure you've got
the right service. There's actually 2 folders/entries in my registry that look similar. I used this one and it's working for me.
When I click on the 1394ohci folder it brings up a list of settings. For "Start," "REG_DWORD," the 'Data' value is probably going to be 0x00000003. That means 'start on demand'. I changed this to 2, which means 'start at startup'. To
modify value, right click on start, select modify, and type in 2. Here's a link to descriptions of this stuff:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc722564.aspx
That's it. Close the editor, restart, and the IEEE 1394 Bust Host controller\1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller should show up in device manager. And when you plug-in your device, it should be detected. Depending on what driver you're using for the bus
host controller, you might see an extra entry popup in device manager (if you're using the 'legacy' driver). Otherwise nothing else pops up when you plug in your device. I guess it might depend on the device though. That's the way it is for me with an older
    Acom external hard drive...
    Hope this helps...

  • IOS device not recognized in iTunes, Windows  7 Computer, or Device Manager

Sometime last week, I ran the updates for my computer. When I plugged in my iPod Touch afterwards, it would not connect to iTunes, although on the iPod itself, I could see it was connected based on the "charging" symbol on the battery icon. So I checked if my computer recognized it as a "Device with removable memory in the computer. Only "DVD RW Drive (E)" showed up and under the "Other" section only showed my iCloud Photos folder. I also checked the device manager for any drive with the name Apple- none. I have only 2 USB ports on my computer, and I've switched between them over and over. No result. I have checked the hardware id's on all my USB drives in the device manager, and I only find the HP TrueVision camera on my laptop.
After a couple of hours browsing through the support forums, I was able to restore the driver, thus allowing my iPod to be recognized again by the computer and iTunes.
on 10/14/13 I ran the installation for updates again, and the same problem occured with my iPod. So I went through the same steps from last week, but this time, no changes. I still cant get the drive back on my device manager. I've gone through all the support pages pertaining to anything and everything about this issue, and still, everything I tried from and simple computer restore to a clean boot has still rendered no results. I know my USB cable works because im able to charge my iPod from any outlet (computer, A/C adapter, car adapter) and sadly I do not have the means to try on another computer.
    I have a HP 64-bit Computer running Windows 7 service pack 1.
    iTunes version 11.1 currently installed.
iPod Touch 4th Generation iOS version 6.1.3.
The Apple Mobile Device Support is installed.
    Can someone heplp me?

Have you tried to give your iPod  a reset? Hold down the sleep and home keys until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try again.
Have you tried different USB ports? Rebooted your computer?
Uninstalled and then reinstalled iTunes? (You won't lose content if you uninstall)

  • I cannot see my iPod in my iTunes or in Computer in Windows 7, but it shows up in the Device Manager

I am running Windows 7 and have had no problems with with the 3 iPods we connect, but as of a couple days ago, the computer will no longer recognize them. Other USB devices (flash drives and Android phone) have no problem being recognized. Additionally, if I have my iPod plugged in before I start iTunes, my laptop will not open iTunes until I unplug my iPod. My laptop will also not shut down if my iPod is plugged in, and will only shut down if I unplug it. It will recognize that my iPod is plugged in and connected (it lights up and charges), but does not show up in the My Computer. The iPod is recognized in Device Manager.  Also, when I unplug any of the iPods, it will show up for just a second in the My Computer before disappearing. I have tried the following:
    Restart computer
Uninstall/reinstall iTunes and all Apple programs
Renaming for a higher drive (Other drives aren't in E: drive)
Putting anti-virus programs on my computer and doing a full-scan
    Disk defragment
Deleting Temp folder (I have stopped all programs on my laptop and it still won't let me)
Stopped iTunes/Apple services and re-enabled them
    Updating Driver Software
    Please Help

have had no problems with with the 3 iPods we connect, but as of a couple days ago, the computer will no longer recognize them.
The problem is with ALL of the iPods, at the same time?  Are they are shuffles?
It is unlikely that three iPods would go bad at the same time, so the other possibilities are bad USB cable, the bad USB port on computer, or a software issue on computer?
If these are different types of iPods and you are using different USB cables, that probably rules out bad USB cable.  Since the iPod is recognized by the computer and other devices are recognized, that probably rules out a problem with the USB port.  So, that leave a software issue on computer as the most likely cause.
Did you install any new software (or change the setting of software) on the computer at the time this problem started, particularly something that runs continuously in the background, such as security software?
You've trying uninstalling and re-installing Apple software.  Is there a way you can disable other third-party software systematically?

  • IPod is not recognized by Windows, iTunes or Device Manager

I'm running Windows XP with external hard drive. When hard drive is connected, iPod will not sync and I get message stating "USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices had malfunctioned..."
When disconnect, iPod will sync. However, iTunes is on external drive; therefore musc is not syncing onto iPod. I've attempted the 5 R's as well as searching for iPod in Device Mananger. When iPod is conncected, it is listed in Devce Manage as "Unknown Device." Articles to solve recommend relettering device, bu how do I get it to be recognized by Device Manager?

I HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM TO THAT I JUST BOUGHT MY 30GB IPOD VIDEO ABOUT 4 HOURS AGO, SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN REALLY STRUGGLING TO INSTALL IT. A SOON AS I GOT IT, I DID EXACTLY WHAT IT SAID, I WENT TO WWW.APPLE.COM/IPOD/START AND DOWNLOADED THE NEWEST ITUNES VERSION. THEN I PLUGGED IN MY IPOD TO MY COMPUTER, AND ALL THAT HAPPENS IS A LITTLE BUBBLE OPENS UP AND SAYS "FOUND NEW HARDWARE" WHEN I CLICK THAT, IT OPENS UP, AND I CLICK "INSTALL THE SOFTWARE AUTOMATICALLY" WHERE IT SAYS IT, THEN I CLICK NEXT AND WAIT. AFTER, IT SAYS "THE HARDWARE WAS NOT INSTALLED BECAUSE THE WIZARD CANNOT FIND THE NECESARRY SOFTWARE".AFTER I WENT TO WWW.APPLE.COM TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, I'VE LOOKED THROUGH AND READ EVERY ARTICLE THAT CAN PERTAIN TO MY SITUTAION, BUT NONE HAVE HELPED ME I AM DISPLEASED TO SAY, THE LAST ARTICLE I READ WAS THIS ONE:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136
BUT EVEN THAT DOES NOT HELP ME BECAUSE WHEN I GET TO STEP 8 WHICH SAYS "Locate the iPod in this list. In some cases one of the entries will have "iPod" in its name. If no such entries are present, the iPod is most likely represented by "USB Mass Storage Device." I LOOK FOR WHERE IT SAYS "IPOD" OR "USB MASS STORAGE DEVICE" UNDER "UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS, AND CANNOT FIND EITHER THING..I HAVE RESTARTED MY COMPUTER A NUMBER OF TIMES, I HAVE EVEN UNISTALLED ITUNES THEN REINSTALLED IT I HAVE STRETCHED EVERY OPTION AND NOTHING HAS WORKED..CAN SOME ONE PLEASE HELP ME??..I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM FOR 4 HOURS STRAIGHT STOPPING ONLY TO GO TO THE BATHROOM AND GRAB A BITE TO EAT..
