Device not compatible with iPhone

My new car (2010 Nissan Versa) has an auxilliary input port that allows me to play mp3 music through the radio. It worked great with my old iPod, but when I try to connect my brand new iPhone 3gs, I get an error message stating that the device (the car radio) is not compatible with the iPhone.
I like the iPhone, but really want to listen to my mp3 music and podcasts through the car radio. Is there some way to resolve this issue?

I have 08 altima with 3gs and updated OS4.0. emailed Nissan and told me my phone was not compatible. I cannot use the factory oem bluetooth since the update. Funny thing is it was compatible with the 3.1 OS and says so in writing in Nissan book. Apple told me it was a Bose firmware issue. I want to revert back to old OS.

I keep getting this error as if I have a device hooked to my phone. I have nothing attached. Statred getting it a couple of days ago and it pops up every 5 minutes or so. Have done a complete RESET/RESTORE and I still get it.

    Any suggestions out there?

    Hi OneColo,
Try using a small brush, like a tooth brush, to remove any debris from the dock adapter port on the iPhone as suggested here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1505
You can also try restoring the iPhone to rule out software issues. This article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305744 will walk you through restoring the iPhone.
If the issue is not caused by debris or the iPhone software, the iPhone may need hardware repair. Make a reservation to have a Genius at a local Apple retail store take a look at it or call AppleCare.

I'm trying to erase the restored backup on my MacBook Pro that was meant for my iPhone 5... I found out the software is corrupted and continued to affect my phone. Where do I find it And how do I erase it to start all over?
On a Mac your backups are in /Users/<your username>/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
(Open Finder, hold the Option key, and select "Library" from the Go menu to get to your user's Library folder.)
In Windows, the fastest way to get to your backup folders is:
    - (Windows 7 and below) Start -> Run -> type %appdata% (with the percents) and press return.
    - (Windows 8) Search -> type %appdata% (with the percents) and press return.
From Application Data, navigate to Apple Computer, Inc. -> MobileSync -> Backup.
You can match your device identifier with the backup folder name by clicking on the Serial Number field in iTunes (which will switch it to your device identifier.) Delete (or rename, if you're worried about making a mistake) the folder with the matching identifier.
I know this thread is about a corrupt backup blocking updating the backup process, but in case anyone is having a corrupt backup blocking a restore (a much scarier problem,) and you don't have the original device/data to make a new backup, I hope you'll take a look at the information I've been writing about fixing backups on my company's blog:

  • I have installed 0S5 but restoring the backup doesn't work. the following messages appear: An error accurred while restoring this iphone (-20)  because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with iphone being restored (my iphone 3GS)

I have installed 0S5 but restoring the backup doesn't work. the following messages appears: An error accurred while restoring this iphone (-20), followed by another message:  because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with iphone being restored (my iphone is 3GS), I tried restoring the factory settings and then restore the backup, but the same problems and I have lost all my contacts, pictures etc

    Hi Ckuan,
Thanks a lot for your advice.
Deleting the correupted back up means to delete the information of one month since the last back up I made is one month ago.....right?
This back up I made right before I restored my iphone.  During the restore however my OS was upgraded to 5.1.1. and reading the comments on the internet it seems I am not the only one whom experience this problem.
Can it be that if I downgrade my OS back to 5.1. the back up will not be considered as corrupted?  If so, how do I downgrade the iphone?
    Thanks in advance.

  • IPhone 3G Dock not compatible with iPhone 3G (or 3G s)

I bought an iPhone 3G dock a few months ago and I'm having problems with it. I had an iPhone 3G and recently upgraded to the 3Gs. This problem is on both phones, but more often seen with the 3Gs. When I plug it in, I get the message telling me "this accessory is not compatible with the iPhone and asks me to turn on airplane mode. When I say no, the message haunts me multiple times. It's really annoying when I charge the phone at night since the screen turns on multiple times, waking me up; or when I have it charging on the dock and an audio out cable plugged into external speakers. (When the message comes up, the audio stops). I've heard a few people talking about this but haven't found a solution. Is this just "the way" it is with 3G docks, or is mine faulty? If so, has Apple recognized it and honors a warranty? It's pretty annoying IMHO and seems pretty out of character for Apple Quality Control...

I occasionally get that message with a standard iPhone usb cable -- the once that came with my 3GS. This could be due to debris in the connectors: It would not take much to make for a bad connection.
You might want to try cleaning them by using a clean dry toothbrush.

  • Bose Noise Cancelling Not Compatible with Iphone

This really disappointed me as I am always use to connect my Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones with Ipod , but not able to connect to iphone. I thought the iphone has standard headphone output. I like my Bose headphones when I am traveling in airplane or subways as it really cancels most of the noise.
Please let me know if anyone has any solution.

Here is the text of the email I just received from Bose:
    Thank you for your message.
iPhone incorporates a deeply recessed headphone jack that makes it incompatible with most headphones on the market, including Bose. We will soon introduce an adapter that will allow our headphones to be compatible with iPhone. (Belkin, Monster and other accessory companies will also offer generic adapters)

  • IPhone not compatible with iPhone dock

    Hi,
I've been using my iPhone with both the original iPhone dock and the universal dock for a loooong time, but the past few months there has been a problem.
When the iPhone is connected to the iPhone dock/universal dock it says (rough translation): "This equipment is not designed to work with iPhone, do you want to activate plane mode [...]"
But all is original apple equipment and all should be compatible - what can I do ?
    Thanks
    Jens, Denmark

Mine is currently doing this, it is also not shutting off, it reboots right after I try and turn it off, and it is not charging through my Macbook either. It won't even show up in ITunes. When I connect it it says that a USB device is draining too much power and has been disconnected. Terrific. Can't charge and won't shut off.

  • Car stereo not compatible with iPhone since iOS 7

Since installing iOS 7, my iPhone 4S is no longer compatible with my Pioneer car stereo to use video. I can still access my music and contact for bluetooth, but when I try to use Netflix for example, it gives an error message on my phone. This was working normally when I was using iOS 6, so there is a glitch with iOS 7. I can't seem to get any help from Pioneer or Apple support...so I'm asking you folks to help me please! Is there a way to get this working again or do I have to wait for the next software update?

In another thread on this issue, Brendan writes:
Turns out restarting my car and/or rebooting my iphone "fixed" the issue. Apparently this was unrelated to the iOS 7.2 upgrade. Honda + iPhone has been rock solid (even if the Honda Fit UI is terrible), so I'm not sure what to make of this problem. Maybe a glitch? Who knows.
Here is the URL for that thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/25211736?ac_cid=tw123456#25211736
His suggestion worked for me: turn off your car, completely shut-off your phone and let it sit a few minutes. Then reboot phone and start car and try again.
    Good luck!

  • IPod AC charger not compatible with iPhone?  Overheating!

I was charging my iPhone with an old AC adapter that uses the firewire cable from my iPod back when they shipped with them, and I don't know what was going on, but the iPhone became scorching hot to the touch. I checked the AC adapter specs, and they are definitely different than the iPhone AC adapter.
Does anyone know definitively whether or not old AC chargers are unsafe? Seems like there should be a warning or something. If this wasn't the cause of the heat, I need to figure out what else is wrong, because I can't imagine the temperature was within normal operating limits.

There isn't a version that will work with iOS previous to 5, according to this Apple article.

  • I-tune software not compatible with iPhone and iPad

When I connect my ipad or iphone it says that the required itunes software is not installed, despite me reinstalling it AND it running fine on my ipod. I have recently had to have Windows reinstalled and run Trend virus protection which also has been reinstalled. I have had computer technicians working online with it trying msconfig to try and sort it out, only to tell me it is an Apple problem!

I don't know that this will work but have you tried disabling your firewall and turning off your anti virus software? That's a typical troubleshooting step if the iDevice is not being recognized so I'm not sure it would work for you but it is something you can try.
Try some basic stuff if you haven't done so yet restart your PC and see if that helps at all. Restart the iPad as well.
