Device on network using same IP address

Occasionally, this dialogue box appears when awakening my iMac. It says:
"Another device on the network is using your computer's IP address (10.0.1.20)", and
continuing in smaller print: "Try connecting again later. If you continue to have problems,
change the IP address of this computer or the IP address on the other device.
Contact the network administrator if you need more information".
I have this Mac, a Mac Laptop, an iPhone, and an iPad connected to my Airport Extreme. What can I do to eliminate this box? It doesn't seem to effect anything when I click "OK", and it disappears. It's just annoying!

The protocol that assigns IP addresses automatically (and makes sure they're unique) is called DHCP. Enable the DHCP server on your base station, and set all the clients to get an address from it.
That is too vague an answer to be practical.
For one, the likelihood is that the DHCP server is already enabled in the AirPort Extreme - or, at least there's already a DHCP server running on the network. If it's already running then 'enabling it' is not going to help. If it's not already running then you just enabled a second DHCP server in the network which is going to cause even more problems.
Besides, you cannot easily "set all the clients to get an address from it". DHCP uses a broadcast protocol to find DHCP servers and, generally, whichever server responds first is the one the client will use. There's no client-side way to tell any given device which DHCP server to use.
Besides, as described, it's not even clear that the IP address is even in use by another DHCP-based client. It could be some other device on the network (printer, maybe?, Blu-Ray player? PS3? X-Box? or even some rogue client) that's configured with a static address.
The actual solution to this problem requires some troubleshooting. You'll need to start off with the base station - it will give you a log of the connected clients listed by MAC address and assigned IP address. Cross reference this list with the known devices (Mac, iPad, and iPhone) and you may find the rogue device. Once you have the MAC address you can start to trace the device on your network.

I have had the AirPort for 5+ years. Have had a Comcast modem for even longer. My husband and I have iPads. We can only get wifi connection within a very short range of our AirPort. I noticed that Comcast/Xfinity was advertising their new Gateway modem with extended wireless wifi so I turned in my old modem to Comcast and picked up the new Gateway model. After going through several issues with Comcast I tried to install my new modem and was told by Comcast that I cannot use both the Gateway modem and my Airport for WIFI, it's one or the other. I went to the Apple store and asked the same question and was told that I can have both connected using the same IP address for both. I am not very computer savy and need some basic, one step at a time instructions on how to add the Xfinity modem to my existing AirPort network for extending my WIFI. I think I expained that correctly.
The Comcast cable is connected to my Modem and then there is another connection between the modem and the AirPort via USB cord.
Is there somewhere on the AirPort/TimeCapsule device that tells me the exact model of my AirPort?

Inability to verify new/reset BB ID on Q10 using same email address

BB Q10 user religously backing up device data on my MacBook Pro at least monthly, most recently on 1st December.
Was prompted later same day to verify my BB ID. Input wrong Password then in process of resetting it ended up also resetting my BB ID that was first created on 8th August 2012 using same email address, as the 'Your BlackBerry ID has been created' subject email is in my same email Inbox from both dates (8th August 2012 and 1st December 2014).
Since then I am unable to -
> Verify my same email BlackBerry ID on my Q10 persistently receiving error message: 'You can't sign in with a different BlackBerry ID on this device. Sign in with the original BlackBerry ID used on this device:'
> Make any more recent backup of my Q10 data due to BlackBerry ID mismatch between the device (unable to verify) and BB Link (signed on with my email BB ID) running on MacBook Pro
> Restore the 1st December 2014 backup on my Q10
Therefore, in a bind as I have a ton of critical contacts plus nearly 1500 precious photos on my Q10 that I canNOT afford to lose; thus reaching out to the support community for praying to God a breakthrough solution.
Since the same email address pulls any potentially, albeit unlikely, discrepant BB IDs together that may be duplicated on record there should be hopefully a way out for me to regain data backup / restore control over my Q10 device.
I have been a happy BB user for well over a decade but my struggle all day today to get out of the ID bind leaves me deeply disppointed in ebsence of a straightforward yet secure solution to such presumably common issue faced by many.

It sounds like you are signed into a different iCloud account on the iPad mini, in my experience that would be the only cause. Be sure to double check what Apple ID you are signed into for iCloud, we'll want it to be your @me.com address.

When you setup your iOS device, by default the same Apple ID is used for iCloud services and store purchases (iTunes, App Store, iBookstore). However, if you want to use a separate Apple ID, you can set up the account you would like to use in Store Settings.

IP address - someone else using same IP address

While using the internet I had a pop up window stating that someone else was using the same IP address and I was now disconnected from the internet. I don't have access to the router as it is shared in my building. Does anyone know if I can change my IP address to something different and what do i change it to?

Have you rebooted? If you get your IP assigned automatically this should prompt the DHCP (IP) server to give you a new address if you're machine is setup to automatically get an IP.

Sorry, pennyfrommi, it comes form French. What I mean is that router normally release a DHCP DNS to the pc into a determined range (which you can change in his settings). Let's say for hypothesys your router is set to release DHCP DNS from 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.254 (.0.255 fiinal maybe used by the router such as .0.1 final) and you have set your PC into a manual connection but with a DNS that's into that range. This may cause problems. To be clear: you must set a DNS within 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.99.

Another computer using same IP address?

I have an Air running 10.8.3. The Internet is spotty and I get this message saying:
"Another device on the network is using your computers IP Address.
If you continue to have problems, change the IP Address of this computer or the IP address of the other device"
Not sure how to fix it without just resetting the router every time.

Monitor difent networks but same IP address

Hi, I have lot of severs that I monitor from one PC with many NICs. Now I have one new problem, I have one client network 192.168.1.0/24 and now I must add a newone with the same network 192.168.1.0/24.
Now, servers have the same IP like 192.168.1.45, the question is, how can I monitor the same IP but different server?.
If I can ping based in mac address that would be great, but I know that its impossible.
So, is there a solution to do it?
I was thinking in create a new monitor network (add a secondary IP), but I think that is not correct.

I feel you are trying to monitor different networks from your server wherein i feel you can achieve by creating manual/static permanent(persistent) routes in your pc/server so that you will have different network routed accordingly as per your requirement.
By default the connected networks like 192.168.1.0/24 will be reachable via the interface which you have in that particular subnet other than that if you want to monitor or to have reachability then you need to have the routes as above mentioned to get them out.
Secondary ip is the other option which you can try out but i would suggest to take uttermost care while defining the metric on the interface and for the default gateways if any.

Not receiving initial apple verification email - email address is known working and correct - Sent verification email muliple times - Actually got an welcome email from this community site using same email address - any ideas?

Trying to setup a new ipod touch for the first time - Setup apple ID and used an existing known working email address - Accepted terms and sent verification - never received the email. Email account is known working - (Note: actually received a welcome email from the apple community site when I posted this question). Resent the verification email multiple times from the IPOD - No luck - Logged into PC and attempt to resend the verification email and that did not work. Any one have any ideas?

Check the trash folder also. Spam could get deleted immediately, depending on how you configured your Comcast account.

Notification that stated another device was using my IP address

Opened my MBP and a notification appeared that another device on the network was using my laptop's IP address. My iPhone was also turned on. What does this notification mean? Could it have been my iPhone? HELP!

It means that you have a router that issues IP address in sequence rather than basing the IP address on a hash of the requesters MAC address.
You turned on your computer and it got the first IP address.
You turned off your computer and waited until the lease for that IP address expired.
You enabled WiFi on your phone and it was issued the first IP address.
You turned on the computer and it requested the last IP address that it had.
Since that IP address is in use by the phone the requested IP address was rejected with the error message.
The router should have then issued the next IP address in the sequence to the computer.
The way around this problem is to configure the router with DHCP reservations or Static reservations so each device always gets the same IP address.

Internet is very inconsistent/in and out/same IP address message

My internet has been VERY inconsistent. One day I'll have fast internet and the next I can't even connect.
A few things you may need to know:
1. My network name is "Shields". When I can't get any internet connection using Shields, I can log on to our neighbors ("Belkin"). This just makes things even more frustrating.
2. At times, I will receive a message that says something along the line of "another user has logged on to the network with same IP address". I'm not sure of the exact wording.

Perhaps your neighbor is connecting to your router. Perhaps you have statically assigned an ip address to a device connected to your router. Perhaps your neighbor has assigned a static ip address to a device he is connecting to your router.
Change the wifi channel on your router and make sure the router is secured to that noone can connect to it without knowng the passphrase. Check all your devices to ensure they are not using a static ip address.
