"Device Removal" warning when trying to mount 2 Ext HDs

I'm trying to copy some files from one external HD to another. When I connect these to my G5 and power up, one of them will mount and then the second one knocks the other other one off the desktop and I get the "Device Removal" warning. It happens regardless of which order I do this. HD 1 is about 3 years old, HD 2 is about 1 month old. I've tried disconnecting them both and reconnecting them, I've switched firewire cables and ports. They are both Western Digital firewire 7200 rpm. This has happened before with other ext HDs that I use. Some of them can all be connected to the G5 without any problems at times. There have been a couple of power failures due to some stormy weather lately but I disconnected everything from the power strip prior to bad weather. Don't know if this has any bearing on the problem, just thought I'd mention it.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Steve L.

Hello! Try them separately on one of the motherboard ports. Were they daisy chained together? This sometimes causes problems. Also when you connect them one at a time to different ports listed the them as they spin up as weak (or failing) power supplies on some externals have caused porblems. Tom

If you are being re-directed to other sites, particularly when searching, this can be caused by malware. Try running several malware scanners. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Malwarebytes]
    * [http://www.superantispyware.com/ SUPERAntiSpyware]
    * [http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php Ad-Aware]

    * [http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html Spybot S&D]
If the above malware scanners do not find any malware or can not clear it, you should consider posting in one of these forums for specialized malware removal help:

Is my computer too much of a dinosaur or something? It's a G5. Help

    Thanks for the input Arthurlock,
This is such a bummer. You guys aren't alone in your disappointment. I was extremely excited too. Thank you two for posting. I finally found a relevant post after 5 hrs and change. I couldn't figure out how to resolve this same problem, and I was too stubborn to give in. All I needed was a simple answer, as Arthur stated.
That said, what are our options? I've been running around in circles trying to figure what my next steps should be? ... Any input is welcome. I really don't want to purchase another computer to be able to use the new adobe software. I guess I didn't realize my computer was turning into such a dinosaur...

  • Device removal error when flash drive is plugged in

I have a 1GB flash drive that I have used for a while with my Windows XP desktop. I switched from a PC laptop to a Mac Book Pro running Leopard. But the Mac Book gave me the drive removal error when I tried to use the flash drive. The PC desktop worked with the drive just fine. So I backed up the flash drive and reformatted it in FAT32. Then I reloaded the files. For a short while I had no problem with the Mac Book. Now I am getting removal errors again. I have been careful not the remove the drive, either from the PC or or the Mac Book, without going through proper procedures. It does no good to "repair" the drive from the Mac Book. Any suggestions?

  • "Device removal" warning following attaching iPod to iMac

I have started having problems whenever I attach my iPod or camera to my iMac. Shortly after making the connection (USB), a warning appears stating that I have removed a device improperly ie without hitting the eject key or other step. This happens before the computer even begins to connect to the device to begin a synchronization or to download photos. The connector cables are different, yet the same message appears and now I am unable to update the iPod or download photos to iPhoto.
    Help?

If the battery on the iPod was near dead, it may have had enough charge to boot the iPod for a second or two, bringing up iTunes and starting a sync attempt. When the battery ran out of power from this attempt, the iPod will shut itself off, causing the improperly removed device warning. Since you left it plugged in, the battery continued to charge. Eventually, it had enough charge to operate. Now, my guess as to why it started playing is that somehow the controls were touched (got a cat?).
The proper way to charge the battery is to plug it into your computer, allow a sync, and then leave the iPod connected until the iPod screen says it is fully charged.

  • Low resolution warning when trying to print.

I shoot RAW, then do my editing in Lr. When I export to file for printing in iPhoto I continually get low res warning. I tried exporting DNG< TIFF<PDS and JPG. I set to at least 1000 pixels on long side. What's going on? Help!!! Thanks

    Tv guy wrote:
I want to go as high as 16x20. I’m not sure the "resize to fit was checked". I’ll check. As far as using iPhoto, I haven’t yet learned to print from Lr. I guess I need to study that. Do you have a quick tip? Thnaks.
Resize to Fit was checked, that's the only way to limit the pixels to 1000.
As a general rule, the bigger you want to print, the more pixels you need.
As another general rule, if you're not going to print from inside of Lightroom, you're going to print outside of Lightroom, then you'd need to export with "Resize to Fit" UNchecked.
As a general rule, when printing you want to use all the pixels you have available and not limit it to 1000, and unchecking "Resize to Fit" is the way to get there. (But really, printing from Lightroom eliminates these issues entirely)

  • Device manager error when trying to load applications

I've been using the Desktop Manager successfully for several years with my old 8703e.  I finally upgraded to a Style 9670, and updated the Desktop Manager to v6.0.2.44.  It syncs fine with the phone.  However, when I go to work with apps, the DM tells me "The Application Loader Wizard requires the Blackberry Device Manager to be installed.  Please contact customer support."  I have rebooted, repaired, and done a full uninstall and reinstall of the DM, but the same error keeps coming up.  I have worked on this all night, and am wondering if I need to return teh phone and opt for an Android.  Can anyone help me, please?

    Hmmm...maybe a totally clean start over? Here's a process:
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista/Win7, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
Further, it has also been reported that when your user profile on windows (type 'echo %userprofile%' in the command prompt) contains spaces, then the installer will not work. In order to solve this issue, log out of your Windows account and log back in using the local Administrator account (or any other account name without spaces) and install the desktop (for all users).
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM Desktop Software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
Some have reported that there are more registry keys to remove than are discussed in that KB...be sure to search your registry for any related to RIM
Others have reported the use of a registry cleansing tool to also be helpful
Still others have reported the use of your original PIM (e.g., Outlook, NOTES, etc.) installation CD, running the "repair" process, to be helpful in some situations
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM Desktop Software:
    http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install the Desktop Software to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
    7) Start the organizer configuration over:
KB17022 How to configure organizer applications for synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
KB23681How to configure organizer data synchronization settings using BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.0
Hopefully that will get things going again.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Why does MAS give me a warning when trying to purchase iPhoto '11?

I want to upgrade from 8.1.2 to 9.5.1, but when I try to purchase, I get this warning:
"iPhoto 8.1.2 is already installed and was not purchased from the Mac App Store."
Does the new download replace the current version or will I have to delete the older version manually?
If the new download replaces the older version, will my photos automatically transfer to the new one?
Is it possible to ask anymore questions in a single post?

The version you have installed came from a DVD installer, not from the App Store. App Store iPhoto cannot update the DVD version. You need to remove/uninstall the one you have, purchase the new version and install it. Removing or installing iPhoto will not affect your iPhoto library. But your should backup anyways.
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper
        2. AppDelete
        3. Automaton
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner
        6. CleanApp
        7. iTrash
        8. Amnesia
        9. Uninstaller
      10. Spring Cleaning

  • Lenovo G50-30 - "No Bootable Device" error message when trying to install windows 7 via DVD-ROM.

Hi all, Recently purchased a Lenovo G50-30 as a birthday present. After recieving the laptop, I tried putting a fresh install of Windows 7 64 Bit onto it. After changing the BIOS settings to allow legacy booting from the DVD drive and changing OS Settings to Win 7, I noticed I was getting an error reading "No Bottable Device -- Insert boot disk and press any key". After googling for a few hours on how to fix this I am still stumped and nothing seems to work. Has anyone had a similar issue or would know how to fix this?

    Hi omegafeggy,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Im kind of confused with the sequence.
Have you installed Windows 7 first then change the BIOS or You changed the BIOS first then Load Windows 7.

  • Warning when trying to launch application over mapped drive "We can't verify who created this file. Are you sure you want to run this file?"

We have 2 load balanced application servers that map drives with programs on them for users from a central server that are giving the warning "We can't verify who created this file. Are you sure you want to run this file?". Basically how it works
is a user logs in to one or the other application servers (for example, 10.0.0.1 or 10.0.0.2) and runs a log on script that maps an L:\ drive to the users folder on the central storage server (10.0.0.100). When the user goes to launch the .exe from the L:\
    drive it presents that warning.
I've looked around and have seen recommendations that you need to add the site to the local intranet zone for IE, but when I try to add L:\ it tells me that I have entered an invalid sequence. It appears that you can only put network shares in that location,
which is not how we're mapping the drive.
Has anyone run in to this before and knows how to resolve it?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
A mapped drive letter is not supported so please try to input \\server or \\server\folder to see if it will help.
