Device restart in progress

I'm running the latest Iomega Home Media Cloud Edition firmware (version 3.2.10.30101) and whether I restart the device through the management system shutdown or restart commands from the status screen or wether I press the shutdown button (once, briefly) to engage soft shutdown -- the device hangs.
If I load the mgmt. web interface I get Device Software Restart In Progress. If I let it sit all day and all night like that it'll never progress past 0% on the progress meter.
Even if I hold the power button for 20+ seconds, it won't power down.  The only way that I can get it to stop is to remove power.

I don't like doing that because clearly the OS is up and it doesn't seem to have unmounted anything.
In addition, it takes eons to power back up after I remove power.  I'm guessing because it is doing some fsck before it comes back online.

Are there any hints on how I can get restart & shutdown to work cleanly?
This seems to be a regression in the latest firmware.  This used to work for me.  Are there new versions of FW in the works that might address this issue?

Hello spitzcor
Have you tried to reset the unit via the pin-hole reset since this began?
If you have and there was not a change, please contact LenovoEMC support to create a support incident as the unit will most likely need to be reimaged.

I am facing problems in iPad mini with retina display. The device restarts suddenly by displaying blue screen. It started happening after I updated my device to iOS8. I request you to kindly update the iOS8 or provide some solutions.

    Hello chinks1995
If your iPad mini with Retina Display is restarting on you and getting a blue screen, then use iTunes to restore it and set it up as new to see if the issue continues.

  • Satellite C50-A0413 - no bootable device --restart system

Satellite C50-A0413 that was pr-installed with Win8 but I didn't like it so I decided to downgrade it so that I can install Win7.
I formatted the HDD then installed Win7 on HDD. Everything went perfect so far but remember that the HDD was running on another machine so when I put it back to my laptop things went nasty because the machine could not detect my Drive again. It kept displaying no bootable device --restart system. What did I try to do to remedy the situation? Press f2 to access my utility set up, "Security" tab and change the value of the "Secure Boot" option to "Disabled" then system Configuration but I can't find Boot Mode to change it from UEFI to CSM.
    What I do please help?

First of all I dont understand why you installed the Windows 7 using another notebook.
Another notebook supports different hardware components and its not advisable to switch HDD to another computer with already installed system.
In most cases there an conflict between hardware and software could appear.
Anyway, the boot mode (UEFI/CSM) should appear in Advanced tab ? system configuration.
    Check this!

  • Ix4-200d CE locking up on device restart after FW update to 3.2.10.30101

I updated the firmware on my iOmega StorCenter ix4-200d CE (4TB) to 3.2.10.30101 last night from 3.2.8.30031. After it uploaded to my NAS, it started to do it's normal shutdown, followed by the power up. Everything was going well until the power up, where it has locked up at 95%. There were no messages at all that came up either via the web interface, or on the LCD screen on the front of the device itself.
Has anyone else run in to this problem? Does anyone know of a solution? I have powered it off twice, and turned it back on. I get the same results.
Can I maybe load the previous version of the firmware on to a USB key, and install that without using the web interface, or losing any data?
EDIT: I should add, that it does show up as connected to my network when I look at the connected devices on my router. Upon seeing that, I decided to see if I could access the drives over my network, and oddly I can. I can access them both from my MacBoook Pro running Mavericks, as well as my PS3 which I use to access the Media Server on my NAS. My TimeMachine back ups are also still going to the NAS, and I can copy files too, and from it.
So it appears it has fully restarted, but the  device itself on it's LCD screen, the web GUI, and the LenovaEMC Storage Manager keep saying that it is still "restarting", not allowing me to do any managment of the device.

    Hello SurveyGeek
If your device did not seem to complete like others did on this forum thread, please try the following.
    - Backup any critical data from the unit if another copy does not already exist.
    - Power down the unit swap the first and last hard drives so they are in opposite bays and also re-seat the remaining disks.
    - Reconnect power cable and allow unit to boot.  you should close all previous web sessions to help speed up the boot process.
    - If the issue persists please contact LenovoEMC support to review the issue further.

  • Public Services Reset if AirPort Device Restarts

I'm running OS X Server on a current generation Mac Mini (running 10.9.3/Server 3.1.2). My wireless network runs off a Time Capsule (1st Gen) that is hardwired to an AirPort Express (Current Gen) to extend the network.
Using the server application I have always opened ports via the "Public Services" section and added items like Screen Sharing, Server Administration, etc. and It works very nicely. The one thing i've always noticed however is that if the Time Capsule is restarted or shuts off (power outage) all my open ports defaults to none.
I have tried a few things to see if this persists, like erasing and installing the OS and installing only the server app to rule out a software issue. The ports still default to none if the Time Capsule is restarted. At this point i'm assuming that this is just something that happens and i'll have to re add everything if I restart the Time Capsule or experience a power surge.
I don't know anyone personally that runs OS X Server, so I figured i'd ask the communities if this is a know thing. Any suggestions for work arounds or fixes would be great!
    Thanks
    -Tyler

Which connections are being used on the AirPort?  Are you using the WAN Port?  (Is this AirPort wired as a gateway, or is the WAN port being used for local traffic?)
If you're allowing incoming connections on those ports from remote sites, that's a path that attackers will probe.
My experience with Server.app management of the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule devices has always found it somewhat... unstable.  Try a reset of the AirPort certainly, and try hard-setting the ports right on the AirPort and not administering the device via Server.app; use AirPort Utility to administer the devices.
Usual preference is to get a server-grade firewall (and preferably with an embedded VPN server), and to reconfigure the AirPort as an Access Point (AP); into what Apple refers to as bridged mode.

  • Device restarting

I have transferred files to my SD card and when I insert it in My Sony Yendo, device is restarting automatically and does a cycle of it. Could this be an issue with the SD card? Unfortunately, I got to stop the formatting of the card when connected to PC. Could that be a cause of this issue?
    Thanks,
    Marcus.

I'm sorry to hear that MarcusKrishna.
It is possible that the memory card needs to be reformatted via the PC in order to correct the issue you are facing. I'd recommend following these steps to see if it corrects this for you:
    1. Turn off the handset and insert the memory card.
    2. Leave the handset powered off and connect the USB cable to the phone and PC.
    3. Once connected, open My Computer on your PC.
    4. Right Click Memory Card (which should be listed under 'Removable Disc Drives').
    5. Select Format.
    6. Ensure FAT32 is selected in the box which appears and click Format again.
Once the format is completed, disconnect the USB cable and power the handset back on to see if the issue is corrected. Please Note: All data currently stored on the memory card will be lost during this process.
Let me know how you get on

  • Device restarts automatically after downloading from app world

Whenever I download something from the app world on my curve 8530 it auto reboots. I have software version 5.0.0.395

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode
It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens.
If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.
But if the behavior continues in Safe Mode, then you may need to consider more drastic actions -- WIPE, OS Reload, BBSAK Wipe/Reload, and the "Bare Bones" OS Reload Process. To prepare, you should be sure that you have a full backup to your PC...please review the Backup link in my auto-sig on this post for instructions.

I'm updating from my iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5 and have been 'restoring' for 2 hours now and the progress bar still states I hae 6 hours remaining. Will it really take this long? How long should a restore take? It's a 32gb device. Thanks.

I am having this problem.  At first with the new iPhone 5, and then with the iPad 2.  I am not sure why this is happening.
My gut feeling is this is an iO6 issue and here's why -
The problem mainly occurs with apps.  I have about 150 apps, and when I plugged in the phone, iTunes went to sync all of them.  The process would hang up after about 20 - 30 apps were loaded onto the phone. I could tell where about the process hung up because the apps on the phone showed up as "waiting".
Then on the iPad 2 I plugged in to sync and saw there was a huge "Other" component in my storage.  It required me to restore the iPad 2 from backup.  With this restore the same issues occurred - putting the apps back on the iPad would hang up.  The videos on the iPad also got stuck - maybe after about 10 hours of videos transfered iTunes crashed.
My solution has been to soft reset the device, restart Windows, and continue the process until it's complete.  This is remarkably inefficient and time-intensive but everything works with patience.
I have been wondering if others have had these same problems.

BlackBerry Curve 8250 freezes during a hard restart. Progression bar on black screen stops 2/3 of the way. I've tried removing battery again and same thing happens.

Nevermind... it took care of itself, 30 minutes later.

  • Ipad 4 updating to ios 8.1 - stuck on black screen with logo no progress bar

So, I downloaded the update for 8.1 on my ipad 4 and trying to install it and I notice it is just the black screen with apple logo. There is no progress bar. Occasionally the ipad screen shuts itself off and then back on. It almost seems like it is working but without a progress bar. Though, I am worried as it has been about an hour or so now and I do not have the slightest clue what is going on.

It appears that the download might be corrupt. But try resetting the iPad and it might resume the download and install of the IOS. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears on the screen, when the device restarts, maybe the update will resume.
However, if you continue to experience what you are experiencing, try restoring using recovery mode.

  • Post 1.3.5 issues: App Installation problem - Restart Required (endless loop)

OK, so I've upgraded to 1.3.5 and that went well.  The problem now is that I can't install ANY application from the App Catalog.  Every time I attempt to install something the install fails and I get a message "Restart Required" to which I respond "YES" and the device restarts (looks like a luna restart, not a full restart).  However, I still can't install anything since I keep getting the same message.
Anyone else seeing this?  I'm attempting a full restart now (still in progress as of this post).
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The looping "Restart Required" message is apparently the result of having some Homebrew apps installed that don't quite have everything Palm expects. The process which is trying to move your apps to their new home barfs and gives up. When you try to install a new app, it trys again (with the same result).
The fix is to download the latest Preware and run something called the Emergency Migration Helper. This "fixes" the Homebrew app installs so that the Palm migration process can succeed. I assume you could also try removing all Homebrew apps, but the Prebrew  EMH fix is much easier IMO.

Stops responding, showing the Apple logo with no progress bar or a stopped progress bar, for over ten minutes

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
