Device switch from Android 2.2 to BB10

Hi There, I seek some advice how to switch from a Android 2.2 to BB10. I already searched for some information, and most pages advise, that I should download the device switch app to both devices and the app will perform all steps required. Unfortunately, my Android device has the version 2.2.1. and the device switch app required 2.3 and my device can't be upgraded. Is there any way to transfer data from the android device to the BB10? When I started to use the Android device, it had an app called Transfer Data and it automatically pulled the contactsetc. from my previous device. Is there anything similar for BB10? Thanks, preizer

hi, normally you can sync your contacts on your bb 10 device with your email accounts. for transferring your contacts to a bb 10 device, sync your android phone with your gmail account first and then sync your bb 10 device with your gmail account. for transferring other stuff like pics, music etc. i think you need to use a pc/mac for bridging. you won't regret switching i used android for a long time and also use ios at the moment. in my opinion, bb 10 is the most advanced mobile os together with sailfish os on the market. but people do not see that and just go for specs of the devices, not performance and security. regards

  • The Switch from Android to iPhone

    Hello everyone,
For about 4,5  years now, I have always been using Android smartphones. I have never regretted buying them and I have always loved them. The main things that made me choose for android were the freedom and customization. I have always been experimenting with different custom ROMs, trying to adjust the way I use my device exactly the way I wanted to. I had never even considered buying an Apple device.
About a year ago I was looking for a tablet. I went to the store to have a look at the different android tablets. In the store however, I noticed the android tablets not running nearly as smooth as my phones always had. Just for the heck of it I also took a look at the iPads and I was intrigued by how smooth they ran. A lot of internet research and store visits eventually made me choose the iPad mini. I did not only want a smoothly running device, I also wanted to try out a different operating system. Furthermore, I also somehow wanted to reserve the endless customization and messing around with different ROMs for my phone. I wanted the tablet just to run smoothly and work. Apart for a slight image retention problem, my iPad Mini works great and I never regretted buying it despite of my earlier dislike for Apple.
However, even after buying the iPad, I could still never imagine myself buying an iPhone. Until recently. Allthough I still really like my blazing smooth Galaxy S3, I am kind of losing the interest for constantly changing ROMs and the endless customizability. It was fun having all those options open, lately I have always been looking for ROMs that simpely work properly without any hassle and that run smoothly. The thought of switching to iPhone has crossed my mind several times, but I am still unsure.
I was wondering if there are any people who have recently made the switch from Android to iOS and how they experienced it? I think I'll like having an iPhone for its simplicity and smoothness, but I am also afraid that I might miss widgets, custom MP3 players, and the freedom to download and open any file or easily send them from my phone.
How have other ex-android users experienced this switch? What difference did you like most and which android features did you miss (in the beginning)?
I hope to hear from you :)

Ok, no widgets and I do miss those occasionally. However, I have other music players on my phone than the built in one. And, I've yet to find a file that I could put on my Android phone and use that I couldn't also put on my iPhone. In both cases, I generally email files to myself.
Things that I like on Android phones that I can't get on an iPhone: ability to schedule SMSs for a later time, ability to use a different messaging app for SMS, ability to set profiles for settings based on time, location, etc with apps like Tasker.
On the other hand, my iPhone never crashes (I found custom ROMs to be a nightmare). It integrates beautifully with my iPad and lots of other devices. Siri is, for me, much better than Google's voice features, though that gap is closing. And, as the Apple App Store is more lucrative for developers than the Google Play store, the apps that I want and use, in my opinion, seem to be better. I find the user experience on an iPhone just more pleasant. And, I think you'll find that an iPhone 5S is just as "blazing" as a Galaxy S4... forget the S3!
    Best of luck.

  • Switching from Android

    Hello
I'm wondering, what would I miss by switching from Android? I do know I'd miss my widgets. But as far as I'm concerned, how well does Google and iOS work together? I'm a heavy user of Google's services (Multiple Gmail accounts, calender, drive, docs, Youtube). Also, how does the App Store compare to the Google Play Store in terms of productivity apps?
The device I'm intending to buy is an iPad Mini 2.

I've been a heavy user of Google for years. Part of the reason I've used Gmail, Google Calender, etc for so long is because I have mutiple devices, including one Android phone and they change fairly often (it's a work thing). It all works very well on iOS devices. I prefer the Gmail app to the built in Mail app for access Gmail.
The App Store has, in my opinion, a much better selection of apps, especially usable apps. It's a little more expensive to be a developer so you don't get as much complete junk.
I do recommend that you go to an Apple Store and spend some time playing with the iPad Mini to get a feel for how it works, what it feels like to use.
    Best of luck.

  • Im a long time Android user switching to the iphone 6 plus. What is the experience of the first time iphone users switching from Android

I had the Gal note 3 then was given a SGS5 for a replace because the Note3 had issues.
Couldnt stand the screen size so I had to go back to the larger screen.
I decided to go with the iphone 6 plus.
So for those who have made the switch from android to apple for the first time what
    has you experience been like.
I am an ipad user but want to know peoples opinions that have switched phones.
One thing I dislike and I know you can change it; it seems like google want to
force you to use chrome which I cannot stand

        Hi zharvey85,
I truly apologize for your experience at the store. However, we provided the pre order as a way to avoid needing to go to store as inventory availability are subject to change without notice. The pre order secures the device and the other email was for the shipping information. Perhaps you can re order the device online to get the ball rolling for you to get your iPhone 6 plus as desired as opposed to going to the store of which inventory can change depending on the availability.
    Thank you!

  • Device switch from 8700c to 8310

I have switched devices at least twice before and it was a piece of cake. For some reason this time while using:
    Blackberry Desktop 5.0.1.37
trying to switch from BB 8700c ver 4.5.0.182 (platform 2.7.0.106)
going to BB 8310 ver. 4.5.0.110 (platform 2.7.0.90)
both on the ATT network with internet active this is what happened.
It went through the entire process said it was finished but the only thing that tranferred was my documents to go (Word), and my facebook account! Oh, and some messages from July 4 and before!
I did not get any calendar appointments, no Addresses, no memo's, no tasks, no call log.
I have 990 entries in the phone book, most with multiple numbers so I kind of need to find a way to transfer these!
What do I need to do different?
    Thanks folks,
    Gary

That did it, thanks for the sounding board!

  • Contacts, messages, history were lost after using device switch from BB 9320 to BB Classic

Hi! I recently bought a BB Classic and used to use a BB 9320, I used the device switch app to back up all these infos. turns out, most of my contacts starting august 2013 up to now were lost. Please help how I can restore my contacts. Thanks in advance

About how many contacts are you missing?
Messages are not synced from the old device, but rather from your email server. You should be able to set your message sync time frame by opening your Hub > Settings > Accounts > select your email and edit. If not, delete that account and add it back again and you'll find the "sync timeframe" in the advanced settings.
Call logs. Only the last 30 days of call logs are kept.

  • Device switch from BB Torch to BB Passport

We downloaded and installed the BB link software and then tried to use it to switch from the BB Torch to the new Passport but every time we tried to use it, it crashed.
We looked for the device switch app in Blackberry World but could not find it!!
Tried re-installing it several times - same result!  Ended up doing the data switch using a media card and that worked fine.
All this was really frustrating and time-consuming till we got an end result.  Why does BB software not work better?!!

You need to install the device switch app in both the handsets. And now either turn on hotspot from your device or use wi-fi. Note: both the devices should be connected in the same line; open the apps in both the devices and choose the device which you wanted to transfer the data from and search for the other device. Should be able to transfer the data now. Hope it helps.

  • Switching from Android to iOS

Hello everyone, I'm wondering if you can help me.
I'm part exchanging my GS4 for an iPhone 5c and I'm wondering if I'll have to buy PS Touch for iPhone or just bring my subscription over from Android. It's no big deal but if I can save a few pennies, who am I to look a gift horse in the mouth?
If anyone could answer this question for me I'd be extremely grateful.
    Thanks everyone,
    Happy new year!

  • Switching from Android to Apple

    Hi!
A little background about myself. I've been using Android for a long time, only experienced iOS on my iPod Touch 2G, which was years ago. I currently use a Nexus 5 as my personal phone and a Samsung Galaxy S3 for my workline. Due to workplace requirements (some apps are only available on iOS), I've been strongly encouraged to get an Apple phone to work more productively. I've read some online articles regarding "switching", but bearing in mind the WWDC just earlier on, I think I could be in for a very very huge "culture shock" if I do get my hands on an iPhone in the next couple of weeks.
So my question here is: What are the main differences between Android and Apple? Are there any very strong points and any huge drawbacks?
    Thanks for your time!

Battery life is average for a smartphone. It will last you all day unless you are a very heavy user.
You will most likely notice no lag as you load more content, however after a few years the hardware will simply be older and slower and you will want to upgrade to a newer phone.
Messaging works great between other Apple devices and pretty standard between other phones, and with the release of iOS 8 in the fall it will get a lot better.
Same thing for App synergy. Apps will have a lot more tools for working together in the fall, but now they are relatively isolated and that is for security. There is good synergy between the built in Apps and they work together well.

  • Device Switch from Palm Desktop 4.1.4 to BB Desktop 4.6.0.13 hangs - no data

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the BB Desktop Software (downloaded a version from October from AT&T website). When I try to move my data from my Palm Desktop software v 4.1.4 to BB Desktop, it processes 6096 calendar entries out of 6395 and hangs. No data is transferred to the BB. Any suggestions? I could live with not transferring any calendar data - I need to get my contacts over and can't do that.
Help. I have 3000+ contacts I need to get over.
I tried blue tooth beaming my contacts from my Palm Tungsten T5 to my BB Bold but that fails (I think the Tungsten bluetooth doesn't have the right protocol for the Bold).
    Running on Windows XP, SP2.

Hi and welcomt to the forums!
If you have done multiple installations of the desktop manager I think the first thig
would be to use this procedure and reinstall the 4.6 softare. The procedure will clean all
registry entries that may affect latter versions.
First we need to clean the machine:

Unfortunately, that is a limitation of the BB10 OS's. You cannot restore a backup from a newer OS version to an older version. You can restore a backup from an older version to a same or newer version only.
You need the Q10 to be on a newer version. Your only option is to install a "leaked" OS onto the Q10 in order to be able to restore your backup or transfer data.
Here is a link to the latest OS for the Q10. All you do is download the file, it will be a .rar file so you'll need an unzip tool like 7zip to unzip it to the .exe file. Then connect the Q10 and run the .exe file and it will update the OS. It will take you longer to download the file than to install it, too. It takes about 5 minutes to load the new OS.

  • You Upgraded to OS 10.2.1 and want to run Android Apps on Your BB10? Install Snap to Your Device!

If you've upgraded to OS 10.2.1.x on your BB10 device you can now install any free Android app directly to your BB10 smartphone directly without any special converting and without the need to connect to your PC.  This opens up BB10 to the thousands of Android apps available in the Google Play store.  However, you need an app to quickly search for and install these Android apps.
The best app available so far is called Snap.  Unfortunately, Snap can't be installed directly to the device since it's a native BlackBerry app and is not yet available in the BlackBerry App Store.  However, it can be quickly loaded to your BB10 device using your PC.
Here is a quick and easy way of installing Snap on your BB10 device using your PC.  Once Snap is installed on your device you won't need your computer to install Android apps on your device!
    1.   Download Sachesi for your computer Platform, i.e. Windows, Mac, Linux (Don't download the Sachesi bar file for BlackBerry or the apk file for Android)
    Sachesi
    2.  Download Snap from here:
    Snap
    3.  Connect your BB with the USB cable.
    4.  Double click on the Sachesi app you downloaded.
    5.  When it opens, click the "Install" tab. (If your device requires a password enter it here.)
    6.  Drag the Snap bar filed you downloaded in step 2 into the box under the install tab.  As soon as you drop the file it will load to the device.
    7.  That's it!  You can disconnect your device and enjoy direct downloading of Android apps on your BB10 device by opening Snap and using your Google Account.
Note:  Not all Android apps will run on the BB10 and, occasionally, an app will not work quite as expected.  However, the vast majority do run normally.
