"Device timed out" during sync

I'm running Windows XP SP2, iTunes 7.5, and iPod software 1.1.2 and I keep getting this error message when trying to sync my new Touch. It worked fine on my old 3rd Gen iPod. I have USB 2.0 also. Anyone else getting the "Device timed out" during the sync process?

I'm still having problems, I can't even update to 1.1.3 because of this problem. Most of the time I don't get any songs on there before it times out but some times two or three songs will go on and it will time out. This is really a problem, I have to go to a new computer just to try and restore because this one gets an error.
Friday I am going to the genius bar, I am hoping they can work it out.

  • Timed Out during sync.

All too often when I am trying to sync/dowlnoad some music from my WIndows PC to my iPod Touch, I get an error message "Timed Out"; this sync could not be completed. This can happen within a few Seconds of the Sync starting, so I cannot have used excessive time. What it going on? What am I doing wrong? and how can I stop this happening?

I would either say that the iOS is correpted due to a software glitch or y have have a hardware problem like bad memory locations that are corrupting the iOS.
    - Restore from backup via iTunes. This will install a fresh copy of the iOS. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.   This will elimate corruptin in the backup causing the problem.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • What should I do when my iPod Touch won't sync because "the device timed out"?

Attempting to copy the disk "iPod" failed. The device timed out.
iTunes could not copy "a song name" to the iPod because a timeout occured.
Those 2 messages pop up whenever I try to sync my iPod. It's correctly plugged in so it's not the USB.

    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reboot the computer
    - Try another cable
    - Try another USB port.

  • "The device timed out"

I can't sync this iPod anymore. After 5 or so songs I keep getting a message that says "The iPod cannot be synced. The device timed out". Things I have tried:
    - Every USB port on my computer
    - Rebooting
    - Restarting itunes
    - Screaming
    - The cable from my 5G and the one that came with it
    - Updating the drivers for Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
    - Searching this forum. That's where I got these ideas from but most of the questions seemed unanswered.
    Anything else I should try?

This is my third iPod (3rd Gen, 1st Gen Nano, and now a Touch) and I've never had a sync issue before owning the Touch on any of my computers (I have three - 1 OS X, 2 Windows machines).
Mine kept repeatedly giving me "The iPod cannot be synced. The device timed out" on both of my Windows machines after about 5 songs - 10 if I was lucky. Forget about syncing a movie.
I was able to "solve" my problem by using an externally powered USB hub. I believe that the issue stemmed from my built-in USB ports not putting out enough power to operate with the Touch. After using a USB 2.0 hub that had an AC power adapter hooked up externally... the Touch now synchronizes like a champ on all my computers. You might want to also try disconnecting any USB devices that are hooked up that draw a lot of power. Not sure if this will help anyone... but it worked for me so I wanted to share (this was driving me nuts!). The touch is too cool a device to buy and not be able to fully enjoy.

  • Device timed out?

Ok, so I have two computers (a laptop and a desktop). My iPod Touch synches perfectly fine on my desktop (which I don't like using because it's really slow) but when I try to sync on my laptop, the iPod will begin synching and will get to about 700 out of 2400 songs but then a message pops up that says that it can't sync because the device timed out. Now, I tried to uninstall iTunes (by going to my programs) and reinstalling it from the Apple site but I still have the same problem. I don't know if it helps, but my laptop has been acting slow lately. I don't know if maybe I am doing something wrong with iTunes (I doubt it because I have had an iPod for 2-3 years and I have never had a problem until recently) or if something is wrong with my laptop.

Cmon guys! Aren't there Apple people around here helping out with issues? I see tons of dumb threads about vibration strength and yellow tint but this is some serious ****. If I can't transfer anything to my iPhone then what's the point.

  • HT1386 Help iphone won't connect - "device timed out" error AGAIN & AGAIN

I recently updated my phone to IOS 7.02 and now when I try to connect to itunes I get a "device timed out" error.  Thinking it must just be my itunes out of date, I updated it too.  Again and again the " device timed out" error still happens.  What an utter mistake to have loaded the new IOS.  I have scoured the help files, I have looked at hundreds of discussion threads - nothing.  The only thing I find is many many people seem to have this issue and no one can get it solved.  obviously Apple doesnt give a crap if you are forking out every 6 months.

    Hello,
I would run through the troubleshooting steps in the following document - which one you choose depends on the operating system you're running. You've already done some of the early steps such as updating iTunes, but there are a couple of other steps you can try, such as verifying Apple Mobile Device Support is installed:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

    or
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X

  • "device timed out" when connecting ipad to computer

i have a mac book pro from 2013 and an ipad 3rd generation (as what it was labeled) from 2012 (i just got). I plug the ipad into the computer and itunes pops up and says that the device timed out and it can't connect to the computer. I have updated my mac and there are no updates for the ipad. i have tried different cords. i'm not the most tech savy, however. please help!?

This support article might be of some help.
iTunes: Resolve USB-related alerts - Apple Support
The the first thing that I always try when I have any issues connecting my iPad to my MacBook Pro is to eject my iPad, quit iTunes, reboot the Mac, reset the iPad and then try again.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad start up. No data is lost when you reset an iOS device.
After doing all of that, try connecting again.
