Device works on some usb ports

My iPad stopped working on the USB port on the front on my PC. It keeps connecting and disconnecting.
It works fine when connected to a USB port in the back of the PC.
In windows, each USB port has its own driver. How do I remove the driver associated with the front port so that the iPad is recognized correctly by Windows?

If your device is not recognized by iTunes, I would recommend the steps in the article below. Start with the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver. If the issue persists try all remaining steps.

USB-Hub not working on LEFT USB port?

I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit on my MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Early 2013) and it's running fine. Boot Camp version: 5.0.5033.
But I have one problem: I bought an external monitor (Dell U2414H) which has an built-in 4-Port USB 3.0 hub. So I connect the Dell monitor using a DisplayPort 1.2a cable and an USB 3.0 cable. But Windows only recognizes the monitor's built-in USB hub when I plug the USB cable into the right USB port (when I sit in front of the MacBook). Then it works without problems. But when I plug the USB cable into the left USB port of the MacBook Windows only says "USB device not recognized". But other devices like USB sticks and USB drives also work without problems on left and right USB port of the MacBook. Also when I boot in OS 10.9 Mavericks the monitor's USB hub is working on both USB ports of the MacBook. So I think it isn't a hardware failure. I also re-installed Windows, but I have still the same problem.
Do you have any idea, why only the monitor's built-in USB hub is not working in Windows on the left port of the MBP or even how I could fix it?
Is Boot Camp 5.0.5033 the most current version? I checked the box to download the latest Windows support software and also didn't find anything newer than 5.0.5033 to download, but sometimes I read about 5.1.1 - but where could I download it? AND: Doest it help?

I think I've hit a variation on the problem you're enoucntering. I have a late-2013 13-inch Macbook Pro Retina. I've just installed Boot Camp and a copy of Windows 7 Pro. This is my first experience with Boot Camp and Windows on a Mac, so I'm in foreign teritory.
The install all went fine and Windows 7 booted up fine and so far, all hardware seems to be working as expected, with one exception. Things went sideways when I tried use it in "clamshell" mode - lid closed with external monitors and all my peripherals attached to a USB hub. I set up Boot Camp to boot into Windows and attempted to boot. It would give me the usual boot-up fanfair and a then a gray screen for a few seconds, and then it would reboot. It just rebooted over and over. I eventually discovered the issue was the USB hub - without the hub connected , it would boot just fine. Once it was booted into Windows, I could attach the the hub and everything would be recognized normally. Furthermore, I could put the system in sleep mode, wake it up and everything would be working fine. But it simply refuses to boot the USB hub attached. I've stumbled on a couple related threads - see https://discussions.apple.com/message/23802231#23802231. The suggestion is that only certain hubs to not work. I've got two different high quality powered hubs and both display the same behaviour. The other point is, that when booting into OS X with the same hub, it works perfectly. So it's a strange problem.
Note that after reading your post, I did try the hub in both right and left USB ports and that made no difference in my case. I do have one more hub to try (built into my Dell monitor). I'll report back if that happens to work.

The new cable is completely new, and my computer can detect the phone as a drive, and battery charging is ok. So I believe the USB cable works properly. It is so weird that just iTune itself cannot detect the phone, and it is of the most updated version. What else can I do? Thanks.

After doing my latest software update, my MacBook no longer recognizes any devices that require the USB port (mouse, iPod, etc.). I've restarted the computer and that didn't help. Any thoughts on what to try? (I've already restarted the computer.)

The most likely issue: Have you plugged your iPad into a USB port that is not directly part of your MacBook Pro?

Iphone doesn't work in my USB ports but everything else does, and iPhone works everywhere else!

My iPhone 3gs stopped working in the USB ports. Camera wizard doesn't even show up. Phone doesn't charge through it either, but if I plug my phone ANYWHERE else (computers and wall outlets) it works fine. When I plug keyboards and mice into my computer, they get recognized right away. My phone was working on my computer just about a week and a half ago, but just completely stopped. Did you do a restart, then if still not responiding then you need to do a restore through itunes.

Flashing Folder when USB device plugged into 3rd USB port

Model: Intel iMac, 2008, 2GB
Problem: Anytime I plug in any USB device into the third USB port from the left, next to the firewire port, I get a flashing folder.
If I boot into an install disc, it does not recognize or see the hard drive.
If I unplug the device from that specific port, the computer will boot and run fine.
I managed to zero out the hard drive and reinstall Leopard. I have reset PRAM and all that.

So if you plug in, say a printer, scanner, mouse or keyboard does it act the same?
The flashing folder tells you that the Mac cannot find a bootable OSX device (volume).

Is resetting SMC included in the "everything like that" category? If you have not tried resetting the SMC then do that.

Some USB ports no longer working after installing Mountain Lion?

Some of my USB ports are no longer working after installing Mountain Lion onto my 21' 2011 iMac. I used to plug in my iphone 4S and charge it, or transfer files onto my iPad but none of the ports no longer work to do this. Funnily enough, other equipment plugged into the works. I have tried changing the cable. Any ideas?

In my experience, the USB ports on the back of an Apple monitor can be re-enabled simply by unplugging and plugging back in the device in question. You might also check to see that the USB Monitor hub shows up in System Profiler. My Apple monitor USB ports experienced no changes in moving to 10.4.7.

TS1538 On Windows Vista, everything works through the USB ports except IOS devices. This just started and I can't get things to work. Help!

The past few days I find my IOS devices don't show up in "My Computer" and they don't show up in iTunes. All other USB devices work well. I am using Windows Vista. It's really great that you're taking the time to help me. I did several of the tests you recommend over the last two or three days. It always shows that the iPod/iPhone/iPad isn't present. Here's more. I got a Norton tech to help me yesterday and it isn't the anti-virus, as we uninstalled everything and it still didn't work. I went deeper into the system through the control panel, and found the device detected on the appropriate USB port, but it won't show up in "My Computer". Two of the three devices show up on another PC, (I didn't test the third) so I'm leaning to something in iTunes because every other USB device I plug into the Vista ports shows up quickly and works perfectly (thumb drives, wireless mouse, camera, etc). I already unistalled all Apple software and downloaded new, but the problem still exists. I have restarted, unplugged, you name it and the devices aren't showing up. I can't wirelessly sync either because one has to set that up through iTunes prior to doing it.

Some items not working in any USB port

Hello, I have multiple USB ports on this Mac Pro and recently when I try to plug in camera cords they do not work. I have a regular kodak camera usb cord and it doesn' work in the front of the back. It does not recognize the item. Also when I pull the plug out it puts the computer to sleep. Help please.

Since a new one's only $50 USD, I'd give that a try. BTW, if the machine's less than a year old (three years if covered under an AppleCare Protection Plan), you should be able to get it replaced, free of charge.

Why does N97 charge from some USB port and some no...

OK some seem to have same sort of troubles but I couldn't find an answer to this one...
So I have a N97 that charges OK when I plug it in computers USB port or in a (powered) hub.
But I also have a USB power adapter that I can plug in a wall socket and it has one USB port (5V/1A) and nothing happens.
Same happens when I plug it in my car using a USB adapter (not a actual car charger for N97).
Since every other phone/MP3-player/device that can be charged via USB works with these, I have to asume that this is something with my phone...
Has anyone else faced this and have found any solutions?

OK I have some additional info to this one.
I made some experiments with different chargers and cabels and here is the most interesting result (in my oppinion)...
In both cases I used my N97 and the USB power adapter (with 5V/1000mA output).
Only difference was how I connected the two...
By using the data cabel (Nokia CA-101) that came with the phone and nothing it DOES NOT charge the phone.
(and yes it is working cable, since I use it to sync my phone with my PC and it does charge the phone via PCs USB).
By using USB->2mm plug adapter (Nokia CA-100) and the 2mm plug->micro-USB adapter (CA-146C) it DOES charge the phone.
Since CA-100 converts USB to more simple connector then there must be something more happening inside CA-146C than just relaying those wires forward...
Any ideas???

USB ethernet does not work in left USB port

My USB ethernet adapter does not work in the left USB port on my MacBook Air, but it works in the right side. Other devices, like my mouse, work fine in both ports.
Could I have a faulty left-side port with too little power for the ethernet adapter, or is this normal for MacBook Air?

i need some help here. i have been given a task which is as follows. I have been given an USB port and by using a hub many devices like RFID, SmartCards, and other are attached to a single port. The Apple Configurator tool robbed my school of @ 60×4 apps.
Here's my mistake. I bought all the apps needed for the whole school in one lump sum. i.e. 350 copies of Pages. Then happily went to Configurator and loaded the spreadsheet. Installed on all the student iPads. Then need the remaining licenses to gift to the teachers and @ 30 for the cart. NOPE! Once they are loaded in to Configurator you can never get them back. Apple said, “sorry”.
I did this for the iWorks suite, iPhoto, & neu.Annotate before I realized what was happening.
This is what to do, in short. From the VPP account, buy the number needed for exactly what you need, just make sure, it's over 20, even if you only need 11, 20 copies is cheaper than 11 because they are half off at 20 or more. Get the spreadsheet generated by the VPP site for the 20 then buy for the next cart or site, it will generate a new spreadsheet of 20 you can give to the computer and its copy of Configurator.

External USB2 drive doesn't work on left USB port

I have an 2,5" external usb hard drive which works on my right usb port, but not on my left one, when i try the disk on the left port, afterwards the usb port is dead untill restart, even my mighty mouse does'nt work on it. My logic board and board with audio and left usb port are already replaced, without result, also the cable beween logic board and daughter board...
The disk works on a colleage's macbook pro on both ports...

Make sure also that no USB devices are connected when you put the machine to sleep (close the lid, or start energy saver).
A restart will clear a hung USB port usually.
