Devices connect to wifi (via airport) but not to internet.

Devices (macbook and iphones) which previously connected via our home wifi are no longer working.  They connect to our wfi network fine (or seem to).  This is generated via the airport on our imac, OSX version 10.6.8.
None of the devices will actually connect to the internet via the wifi (although the phones do it fine on 4G).
Thee were some messages about allowing various applications access to network sharing (or something) when I started the mac this morning.  for some of these I clicked "deny" as I did not know why I was seeing them, what the applications were, or really what they meant.  It was out of the blue and seemed a bit odd.   This may have caused the problem.  All the diagnostics I have run, and network rebuilding has not helped.
Hope someone has some ideas.

Try shutting everything down. Then in order restart your cable/dsl modem, your Airport router and finally your computer. Let each device fully start before powering up the next one.

  • My mac mini will connect via airport but not via ethernet.

I have had a mac mini for several months which I connect via ethernet because it is in a part of my house where the wireless signal is poor. I changed ISP and now I can connect to the router wirelessly but not via ethernet. This doesn't seem to be a problem with the network as the connection works when I connect it to my mac book. Firewall is turned off. There were no major changes to the router settings other than changing the ISP login codes.
Any ideas? Is this a configuration issue or a hardware problem?

    Hi Mick,
If your router only supports 10/100 ethernet then it is possible that the auto-detect feature is not working properly to adjust to that speed. The mini has a Gigabit ethernet port. The OS by default sets the port to automatically negotiate the rate but it does not always work and the result is the problem you are having.
To fix it you wlll have to manually set the rate to 100.
To do this, open your system preferences, Select Network. Highlight the ethernet port on the sidebar, click the advanced button. Click on the Ethernet Tab, set the configure pop-up menu item to 100baseTX and click the ok button. If all works out you should see that the Ethernet port icon should turn green.
    Hope this helps.

  • I can connect to my wireless network but not the internet

Hi. I've had my iBook G4 for just about a year and it's worked fantastically... until recently. My roommate has a PC and a linksys wireless router, and I've always been able to connect wirelessly to the internet until last week. I came home from work one day, and my iBook "saw" our wireless network and could "see" other computers on the network, but could not access the internet. My roommate had no problem accessing the internet through the wi-fi on his Dell laptop. So I zapped my p-ram and fiddled with some settings, but I still had the same problem.
Next I re-installed OS X, and tried again. Still the same issue. Of course, by this time I'm getting frustrated, but then about 12 hours later I decide to try it again and it just works! Like there was never any problem....
So anyway, it worked like a dream for about a week and now I have the same exact problem again! It connects to the network but not the internet. Is this a known problem? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -joe.

  • Won't Connect To Flickr Via Airport But Ethernet Is OK?

Ok, this is really strange, I've got a MacBook Pro 2.33Ghz 15" and as of yesterday I cannot connect to flickr.com via wireless. However, when I plug in my ethernet cable, everything is fine. I'm using a Netgear Router but I've not played with any settings on that for months. I'm really quite confused and can't think what it could be (I'm a Mac Noob so I could have done something I suppose).
    Can anyone enlighten me?
    Simon
UPDATE: I should also say that I cannot ping flickr throught airport access either, but ethernet is fine

And as another update, I've just installed BootCamp and there's no problem connecting to Flickr via wireless when i boot into that partition, so the issue has to be somewhere in OS X ?
What a strange problem? Please help....it's driving me mad!

  • Macbook pro connects to wifi via safari but IE has connection problems. Has always been fine but recently stopped working. Urgently need to sort it out. Please help.

I have been running Rushcliff Private Practice Software (PPS) in a Windows environment using Parallels on a macbook pro for months. Everything has been working well. PPS needs an internet connection to allow synchronisation with colleagues using the same software.
Over the last 2 weeks, I keep losing the IE connection but am still able to connect to Wifi using Safari and other PCs.
Please can someone help? Urgently need to resolve the problem.
    Many thanks.

Your issues are with notebook, not a workstation tower, and with Parallels and Windows. Maybe with Lion thrown in.
Hopefully you know where Parallels forums are and also that you installed Windows natively first on its own partition so you can test and run it direction rather than as a VM only as well as that sometimes takes the VM out of the equation.

  • Can connect to airport but not always internet!!

We have up to 6 Wi-Fi devices in the house and for some reason only about two can connect to the airport at one time. We have road runner from TWC and I have called them and they said that the modem was working fine and reset it from their office. They said that the router AEBS was messed up. I've tried to reset all the settings and it worked for a little while, but then returned to it's old ways again. What's wrong? Am I missing something. This has been majorly stressful! FYI We have a Powerbook G4, MacBook, HP Desktop, Vaio Laptop, and 2 iPod touches.

I have reset my airport this was the second time i was toying with it all last night. I was able to get on the little website for our modem so I disabled that firewall and turned off it's wireless capabilities and a few other odds and ends. And then I redid all of airport. Now though I get an unresolved problem status with "Double NAT" it says and I quote that "This base station has a private IP address on it's ethernet WAN port. It is connected to a divece or network that is using Network Address Translation (NAT) to provide private IP Addresses. You should change your base station from using DHCP and NAT to bridge mode." I ignored it because it seemed to be working last night fine with all of our devices on at the same time. but then again last time I reset it, it worked fine for about 3 days and then went to it's old habits.

  • Can connect to airport but not load internet page

I can connect my PS3 and window based laptop to my airport network, as both show successful connection, but I can not load internet page on either the PS3 or the laptop. My airport network is not protected. My airport base station is about 7 years old.

Well the symptoms now point to a number of issues that need to be eliminated and they are you need to check that you are logged onto the ISP. For always ON systems this is usually a function of the Router in which case you need to log onto the Router and check the appropriate settings for this function also release the lease on the IP address and reboot the Router. The other issue is that the Router may not have access to the ISP which may cabling problem [disconnected or accidently damaged cable] within your environment of a service problem within the ISP domain. Check with a neighbour who is subscribed to the same Exchange as you are to see if they have problems otherwise call your Service Provider they may have to perform a reset on their end of your connectivity. Good luck

  • Can I connect my iBook via Airport/Ethernet to share internet?

I have a G5 iSight connected via Airport to the internet. I want to connect my G3 iBook via Ethernet to the G5 and connect to the web. When I opened Sharing on the G5 and started sharing my connection, it warned me that doing so might cause problems. And it was right. I lost the internet connection to the G5 and had to reboot the modem.
Before I rebooted, I opened up Network on the iBook and saw that Ethernet had an active internet address of something like 196.168.... with a "3" on the end -- the same sort of number as my G5 is assigned except that it has a "1" on the end (I think).
Is it possible to share my G5's internet connection with my iBook? How?

Thanks for the response, Camelot. It is still no go. This is what I did. For the G5:
    1. +Network > Airport+ (under TCP/IP) gives the IP address as 192.168.1.1, and the router as 192.168.1.254.
    2. In +Network > Built in Ethernet > TCP/IP+ I selected manually (for configure IPv4), then typed in 10.0.0.1 and the sub mask you suggested. The router I left blank.
    3. I applied the above.
    4. Under Sharing, I selected +Share your connection from: Airport+; +To computers using: built in Ethernet+.
    5. When I selected Start I got the warning: +If your computer is connected to a network, turning on Internet sharing may affect the network settings of other computers and disrupt the network. Contact your system administrator before turning on Internet sharing.+
    6. I booted the iBook (OSX 10.3.9) and opened Network preferences to see what happened when I connected the Ethernet cable. Under +Network Status+ I saw Ethernet come up with a yellow button (and a message), and then a green button with the message: +Ethernet is currently active and has the IP address 192.168.2.3. You are connected to the internet via built in Ethernet.+
    7. When I checked +Built in Ethernet > TCP/IP+ on the iBook it was set to DHCP.
    8. The iBook would not connect to the internet, but the G5 would. At least that's an improvement.
Seems a curly one to me.

  • Able to connect via airport but not via ethernet since fresh install

New format and reinstall of OS X. Software update to 10.4.5. Now I need to use ethernet and I get an error. I did NOT have ethernet attached when doing the install.
This used to work before the reinstall. I have tried different cables and different ports attached to the D-Link router (I use DSL).
Other computers on the net (iMac G5 via ethernet and Windows via Wireless) have no problems.
I have tried the network assistant, renewing DHCP lease (which does not work), manual config, ifconfig up and down and even tried to reapply the 10.4.5 update but to no avail. I have even rebooted (Ugh) several times.

What now? - I really don't feel like reinstalling with en0 connected just to fix this
    Thanks for any advice

I would attempt to find a Windows machine to set it up as Samsung's Mac software is abysmal.
However I have found this step by step on an Amazon review, I don't know if it will work:
    1. Setup the physical printer machine according to manual. Then connect it your Macbook via USB. Make sure the printer is powered on and verify the Macbook is powered on with wireless network Access.
    2. Insert the supplied software CD and double click on the CD from your desktop.
    3. Double click and execute to Mac_installer folder >Installer OS X icon.
    4. Complete the license agreement and installation steps.
    5. This will be a standard install without the wireless option. This is your only option. You will not be given a chance to do the wireless installation like in the Windows version install.
    6. Enter in the admin password to install the software.
    7. Once the software confirmation screen pops up to confirm your installation was successful, proceed to DISconnect your USB connection to you Samsung Printer.
    8. In case you missed it, Disconnect the USB connection between your Samsung printer and Macbook.
    9. Navigate to Applications > Utilities >Print Setup Utility  (For Mac OS X 10.5 - 10.7) Navigate to Applications > System preferences > Print & Fax.
    10. Click Add on the printer list (For Mac OS X 10.5 - 10.7, click the PLUS sign) and new display will pop up.
    11. On the "Default" Tab of the pop up display, select or highlight the Samsung printer. In the printer name column, it should be listed as "Samsung ML-2160 Series (NNNN)", then in the Kind column, It should be listed as "Bonjour"
Note: DO NOT select the Samsung Printer with the "USB" in the Kind column. This Samsung printer - USB option should only be selected if you intend to print from USB.
    12.  Click ADD, then select continue to create the print queue.
    13.  Now open up any word document with text and print a test page.

  • Can print from MacBook via Airport, but not from eMac

I recently set up wireless network via an Airport Time Capsule. I've connected my Epson Stylus C84 via the USB hub. I can print wirelessly from the MacBook, but I get a "Communication Error" when attempting to print from my eMac (which works just fine when directly connected to the printer.)
    Thoughts? (It's driving me nuts!)

You'll need to invest in an Airprint printer, or look into a hack such as AirPrint Activator.
The only Apple supported/suggested method is to look into getting an AirPrint supported printer.  To find them you can go to store.apple.com and on the side is an AirPrint printers section.

  • Connect to Airport But NOT the Internet - Please help

My iPod touch has never had any problems till recently with connecting to the Internet.
I does connect to the Airport. But I cannot go to the Internet.
The error message I keep getting is that the server stopped responding, when using Safari.
My computer connects to the Internet no probs.
I done as much checking as I can, what else can I do?
    Please help?

I had a similar problem and simply unplugged my cable modem for a few seconds. When it came back up, everything connected fine.

  • Can connect to MySQL via localhost, but not remotely!

    Hi all!
I got a problem that I think you guys could help me with :)..
I have installed JDBC to make it possible to link my Java programs with MySQL databases. The installation worked just fine.
When I'm running my program with line:
    Connection connection = null;
connection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/chat", "*****", "*****");...it works without any problems. I can handle information from the tables, add posts, delete posts and so on.
But when I'm trying to connect from an another computer, from school for an example, it doesn't connect. JBDC says it can't fint the mysql jbdc driver.
When I'm using this way I uses the line:
    Connection connection = null;
    connection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://85.235.154.98:3306/chat", "*****", "*****");Like I said, this doesn't work at all.
How do I fix this problem?
Worth to mention maybe, is that I'm using Windows XP Home, and I have placed the mysql-connector-java-5.0.5-bin.jar in "C:\Program\Java\jre1.6.0_01\lib\ext"
    I'm using Java version 1.6.0!
    Please Help :)

But when I'm trying to connect from an another
computer, from school for an example, it doesn't
connect. So the database is on your home computer? And you are attempting to connect from the school?
JBDC says it can't fint the mysql jbdc
driver. Then it has nothing to do with connecting. That means your class path is wrong.
If it actually is a connection problem then you can do the following in a console window....
    telnet 85.235.154.98 3306
There will be one of two results from the above after several minutes.
    1. It will just sit there.
    2. It will tell you it can't connect.
For 2 you have a problem that has nothing to do with java. Looking at your code will not fix it.
If it is 1 then something is wrong with your code and you should provide the exact exception.
