Hi everyone,
I have noticed some devices in my zone suddenly start picking up bundles and polices which are not related to their device folder. I looked in the folder where the device should be and could see that the device object has disappeared. I looked in the folder with the relationships to the bundles the device was getting and I couldnt see the device object in there either. I looked through the details of the devices in this folder and I eventually found an object with the correct Host Name and IP address of the device which had disappeared. The actual object was named differently. It looks like something has caused my device to suddenly take over another devices object in the zone.
We register our devices using rules which use the Host Name as the filter. The host names of these devices are completely different. Can anyone suggest a reason why this may be happening?
We are using ZCM 11 and Windows 7 64bit.

To me this sounds more like a duplicate GUID issue than something going wrong with the host name based registration rules.
Is this ZCM 11.0 or 11.1(a)? ZCM 11 should have more mechanisms in place to avoid duplicate guid issue... In any case, have a look at this TID : http://www.novell.com/support/php/se...00%20313100822

Running apple hardware test, and taking over 15 minutes, normal?
My MacBook pro won't start up, gerble wheel keeps going around for over 20 minutes, using "hardware test" disk now and it's been over 20 minutes again, with no completion... The progress bar is 7/8's done, but it's been in that spot way too long? What do I do now??
If you want it replaced for free, you need to have Apple do it. However, there may be reasons to consider replacing the disk yourself, at your own expense, instead of doing that.
1. If Apple does it, they'll keep the disk they remove — and whatever data is on it. So if your data isn't backed up and you don't want to lose it, don't have Apple replace the disk unless you can make special (and probably expensive) arrangements to have the store or service provider back your data up and transfer it to the new disk for you. If the old drive is badly hosed, that may not even be possible.
2. If you replace the drive yourself, you'll get to keep the old drive and you can try to salvage any un-backed-up data from it at your leisure, using data recovery software that you can buy and use just as easily as Apple can.
3. Ask how long it would take for the store or Service Provider to get the machine back to you, being sure their time estimate includes transferring your data if necessary. If you don't want to be without the machine for as long as they say you will, that's a good reason to do it yourself.
4. If Apple replaces the drive, they'll put in one with the same specs as the original. If you'd like a larger or faster drive as a replacement, you'll have to buy and install one yourself.
5. Installing a hard drive in any unibody MBP is almost ridiculously easy. The instructions for doing so are printed right in the little user manual that came with your computer.
6. Almost any replacement hard drive you might choose will cost less, and some of them much less, than $100. So particularly if the store or AASP wants a week or more for the job and your time is worth money, doing it yourself is probably going to be a bargain even though it will cost you a bit. -
ITunes - create new account and taking over songs from previous one
I shared my ITunes with another person and going forward, we have to use separate accounts. How can I transfer the music stored on the ITunes accounts to another one, resp. create a new account with the old music on it?

Adobe taking over other programmes
I opened a zip file, which had a Pdf contained, now IE, Chrome, Outlook, Microsoft Office and other components have the Pdf label instead of their own label and when i open them they go streight to Adobe and say that they cannot be opened has they have no file association. If I remove Adobe components from my programmes file the affected programmes return to normal, if i install Adobe reader the same malfuction happens. I have done a full system virus check and found that I had 5 infected files as I am using Avast Free I have put them in the virus chest, and i still get the same results when uninstalling/installing Adobe. Can anyone please help, but I am not That Tecchie

Why is time machine lagging and taking over 8 hours to backup?
Hi,
I have a 15" Macbook Pro (Mid 2012) running 10.8.5.
I started a time machine back up last night before going to bed - the dialogue box said it estimated 3 hours to complete...
8 HOURS later and it's still backing up. It's showing "about 5 seconds" and has been for about 15 minutes. There's still about 20 GB left and it's hardly chipping away at it.
Can anyone tell me why this might be happening? This machine is relatively new and it's my first time backing up to time machine on this particular machine but never had any problem with my previous Macbook Pro.
Any help would be great. Here's a screenshot if it helps...

Is there meant to be an actual setting specifically for time machine in Energy Saver? That's how I understood your reply.
Or I misunderstoo that then, I presume I should untick "put hard disks to sleep when possible"? each time I back up?
Although I never had to tick / untick this box each time I backed up in the past.

Complete bewilderment - some tracks 'taking over' others?
This is a strange one. Only started happening a few months ago, does not happen all the time.
I'll be working on a project with say, 14 tracks of recorded instruments. I create track 15 and record a tambourine (for example). Now when I play the track I hear one of my other tracks instead--solo'd or otherwise.
Say I delete track 15, create a new one, record something. Same thing. I actually have to mute the track and record on a track 16. Sometimes I have to skip several tracks before I get one that works. I have to leave all the dead ones muted to keep them from flooding everything out with double and triple takes.
I've coped with this for a while. But in one of my tracks the problem has intensified (somewhat different but seems to be related)...
Some of my tracks (in this case kickdrum and one of the lead guitars) are constantly playing, even when I have EVERYTHING muted (except Out 1/2). The double kick is constantly peaking my track in a really unpleasant way.
Does this happen often? Is it some internal setting I'm overlooking? Or should I reinstall Logic? Getting somewhat desperate, I'll be very pleased to hear it's some stupid little thing I can get rid of by clicking a few checkboxes. Thanks for bearing with me..Your instruments are sharing the same tracks? You're routing a collection of tracks into a bus or aux?
Make sure your instruments are not sharing the same track numbers and make sure your routing of those signals is going where you want them to go. If you don't know for sure what output your sending them too, then you're gonna have issues. -
Photoshop bug: Smart Objects overwriting other Smart Objects when edited and saved in Illustrator
Experiencing issues when working with a large number (over 200) vector smart objects brought into Photoshop CS4 from Illustrator.
Things seemed to be going along nicely; if I needed to edit a Smart Object, I could double-click it, it would open in Illustrator and then I could edit and save it. Return to Photoshop and the Smart Object is updated. Swell and dandy. The issue started happen when I hit a large quantity of either vector smart objects (remember, over 200) or the many layers and groups within Photoshop (must be over 500). When I would double-click, open, edit, and save the vector Smart Object, the Photoshop Smart Object I was working on would update AND another/several other Smart Objects would update as well. Which, of course, would ruin the artwork, as suddenly I was seeing several instances of the same object. If it hadn't have been for ForeverSave, I many not have recovered the work.
It's rather hard to isolate the issue to see what's causing the problem. Here are some of the possible causes:
Running Snow Leopard on Mac
Many, many Smart Objects in file, perhaps enough to ruin the naming convention and cause bugs when Photoshop referenced the temp file
Many, many Photoshop layers and groups
Illustrator vector files copy+pasted from several different files (affects the naming convention perhaps?)
Some groups/layers in Photoshop are duplicates
To help make it a little clearer, you should know:
Running the most updated software / OS (that is until CS5 comes out)
Smart Objects showed no error until I had actually opened, edited, and saved the referenced temp file (i.e. VectorSmartObject1.ai)
Files saved and worked on from Dropbox (network folder)
Not looking for much of an answer to this question; I just wanted to see if anyone else had come across this bug. Also, Adobe PLEASE look into this as you begin testing for the next update. I have the file(s) if you need to replicate the issue. My best guess is that the naming convention of Vector Smart Objects has an odd character limit so when Vector Smart Object 200.ai is saved, Vector Smart Object 2.ai gets overwritten.Have you tested this with Photoshop CS5 and Illustrator CS5? (the current versions, that came out last month)
If you duplicated a smart object layer, both layers refer back to the same file content. So when you change the file, both layers would be updated. That is intentional and explained in your manual. If you didn't realize this, that could explain what you are seeing.
If you placed separate files, then they should not be updated at the same time, because they will refer to separate files.
Yes, Smart Objects only update when you save the file.
You would need over 4 billion smart objects in one document to get Photoshop confused about which one refers to which file. And since the layer limit is much less than 4 billion, I doubt that is the cause.
There is no naming convention involved. We don't limit the filenames (except to platform standards and to include a file type extension). -
I have connected an AirPlay enabled device to iphone4s. I started palying songs. I was able to access internet through 3G from iphone.After few seconds 3G symbol disappears and WiFi symbol appears. After that I'm not able to access internet. Why is it so?
SMS. Deggie, had them check that. After a lengthy discussion with Senior Tech advisor, it appears it is iMessage/Face Time server (they are the same) issue, which will strong arm those into purchasing Data if they use iMessage over multiple devices, as the server registers the phone number associated with apple ID. There is a sound icon in the upper right menu which disappears and reappears. When it disappears there is no sound. Went to Apple preferences for sound preferences. When the sound icon is off, this page is not active. Says "mute" is activated and that there is no output device. Cannot fix this problem. How do I retrieve the sound icon and get sound back?

Next time it happens... Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back -
I need help. I have ADE on 4 devices and currently over 2000 books. How do I sync all the devices so I don't spend all my time doing this manually. I have had ADE before, on my Palm, but it crashed and ADE didn't have a mobile app at the time, so I gave up on it. I discovered that Amazon had removed books from my Kindle library because they were, they say, no longer available, but I bought them, they were mine and I consider their removal as theft. I decided to get a Kobo and discovered that it's primary format is ePUB, si I re-activated my Digital Editions. But, in order for me to keep using it and having my ebooks handy when I want to read them, no matter where I am or what device I have available, I need to be able to put things on one device and have them sync to all the others. How do I do this? Does anyone know? All help and suggestions gratefully recieved.

How do I delete my existing iCloud account (across ALL my apple devices), and start over from scratch??
(cant seem to get calendars to ever sync right, on my devices, and across to my wifes'....so want to start with a "clean installation")Settings>icloud, scroll to bottom of screen and tap Delete Account (this disconnects the device from icloud but doesn't delete any data on icloud or on other devices).
If you then want to sign back in using a different ID, do so on the same screen.
I also strongly suggest that you and your wife use different icloud accounts, otherwise all your devices will have the same data on them, same emails, reminders, etc. Most likely not what you want. -
My brother-in-law recently passed away. My sister gave his MacBook Pro to my niece. When she opens and starts the laptop, it shows my brother-in-laws name. Is there a way to change his name to her name without formatting the device and starting over?

If all she seeks to do is to change the display name, and she’s willing to leave the account name unchanged, then she could do the following: log in as the administrative user and open the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences. If the padlock in the lower-left corner is locked, unlock it. Select the account that shows your brother-in-law’s name on the left-hand side of the window, and then on the right-hand side, change the text in the “Full name” textbox to her preferred display name. If desired, click on the padlock in the lower-left corner to relock it. -
Has any one experienced issues with iCloud synchronisation and contacts over two or more devices? The primary machine is an iMac running Lion. Address Book was created from vcf file (backup of address book prior to moving to iCloud). iTouch replicates Contacts just fine and matches the Address Book on the iMac. The iPad 2 does not showing only 123 contacts where there should be 200. I have turned off iCloud on both devices thus erasing the iCloud content of both devices and staring from scratch with both devices with identical results. Even turned off iCloud on the iMac and erased the Address Book and rebuilt with the same results. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I am going nuts.....
To follow-up with this issue:
I ended up performing a security wipe on my device. The security wipe finished, and I was about to reconnect with Exchange when I decided to visit our host's web site to see if they had any articles covering the issues I was experiencing. While they didn't have anything specific, I did find a step-by-step guide to connecting a BB10 device to Exchange... and right there at the end, it said "Do NOT enable memo sync."
I contacted support, and the rep told me that OS 10 has an issue with memo sync and it can cause all sorts of unpredictable behavior. Now, whether or not this is accurate I can say this: So far, the device is not disconnecting and reconnecting like it was before. Problem is, is this a result of not enabling memo sync, or is this a result of the security wipe?
I may have overlooked it, but I don't recall reading anything about that anywhere else. I'm tempted to try re-enabling the memo sync to see if everything blows up again. At least that way I can see for myself if the memo sync is a real issue. Of course, perhaps it's an issue with SherWeb (our host) specifically. Hm...
Anyway, for those that were interested, and for those that may come along in the future with a similar situation, the strange behavior that I first reported is no longer happening. I just don't know if it was a result of a security wipe or a result of not enabling memo sync with Exchange.
