"Devices" doesn't show up

I have been using Apple TV(1st. Gen) , although not lately, and it worked fine. Now it does not show up on the "devices" list in iTunes, in fact there IS NO devices category at all in the left hand list. What could have happened? I am tying to add photos to albums that were showing up fine before. For what it's worth, when I sync my iPhone, it does show up in iTunes. Thanks in advance

I just received an ATV2 and installed on my network. My old AppleTV1 still works fine. I can still sync Music/Movies/TV/Photos with no change. It still appears on the left and slowly syncs as before.
What is disappointing is that the ATV1 cannot stream to the ATV2 as an AirPlay Speaker. iTunes will stream to Airport Express, ATV1 or ATV2. But ATV1's can only stream to Airport Expresses. Bummer.

  • Iphone device doesn't show up on the side bar after new driver installed.  How do I fix this?

I had to install a new drive into my laptop.  When I tried to download an audible book into my Iphone the device doesn't show on the side bar anymore.  When I try to sync it from Itunes it doesn't do anything either.  Any suggestions on how to get my phone device back on the side bar?

  • TS1453 Apple TV doesn't show up in my iTunes.  I've done all the troubleshooting steps, updated all software, restarted Apple TV, wireless router and computer. Devices doesn't show up at all in my sidebar.Apple TV doesn't show up in preferences

Help.  My Apple TV won't sync with my computer.  I've done all the troubleshooting tips, but Apple TV doesn't show up in my Preferences under devices.
    2. Reconnect Apple TV to iTunes.
Choose iTunes > Preferences (Mac) or Edit > Preferences (Windows), click Apple TV, and make sure "Look for Apple TVs" is selected.
I see no option to select "look for Apple TV's" in Preferences, and there is no device list at all in my sidebar.
    3. If Firewall is on in Mac OS X (in the Sharing pane of System Preferences), make sure iTunes Music Sharing is selected.
There is no option to select iTunes Music Sharing in my System Preferences - see screenshot
I've updated all software, restarted Apple TV, my wireless router, and my computer.  Both my computer and the Apple TV are connected to the same wireless network and both are operating properly.  They just wont connect to each other.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

FIRSTLY: bookmark following for further reference (it describes basic setup, both to link for syncing and to stream - from any computer.)
Apple TV (1st generation): Differences between syncing and streaming" )
Now as to your problem: If you check under "Computers" in the "Settings" menu you will most likely see the name of your iTunes library Greyed out. IF that's the case, you'll basically need to re-setup your ATV., you can do so as follows (instructions are intentionally over described, but basically your disconnecting then reconnecting your ATV1. Downside (which seems to come with all methods is that you'll have to resync all your media)
**A (not ideal but effective solution)
If ATV 1 had been working but suddenly 'disappeared" from iTunes sidebar
The following solution will almost surely work  to regain your ability to Sync:
    QUIT iTunes
    Select "Computers" from "Settings" Menu.
Select your "greyed out" iTunes library.
This will bring up a window named "Disconnect from iTunes"
You're now given the choice to Cancel, or disconnect. WITH THE WARNING that if you disconnect any  content synced with iTunes, will be erased. (in fact it will be removed from your ATV but not your computer)
Assuming ALL of your media IS on your computer, Go ahead and disconnect.
Follow instructions in the Apple doc above about setting up your ATV as a paired computer.
After you ATV gen1 reappears in the sidebar. Reset all your desired syncing preferences,
    Begin syncing.
All will be fine again, (at least till the next time this occurs.) I've had to do this twice this year.
    ALTERNATELY:
SHARING (a QUICKER, less destructive TEMPORARY solution (if you just want to play your media now)
You CAN set your computer to Share by following instructions in the same doc under the heading:
"How to connect to a shared computer"
HOWEVER, this will not allow you to sync info.
I've read alternate solutions on this board, one involved changing the name of your iTunes Library etc... you may wish to try this first (if it applies) https://discussions.apple.com/message/17943841?ac_cid=142432#17943841
What I'd like to know: What causes this problem...  I'm suspecting iTunes updates, or any iTunes database issues or crashes. Or maybe too many visitors connecting to your other Apple devices (ATV 2 for example) or heck the weather in Guatemala...

  • ITunes store "Manage Devices" doesn't show my iPhone

Help!  I've tried all the usual things that are listed in this forum (syncing my phone, making sure automatic downloads on my phone are on), but nothing works.
The "Manage devices" section of the iTunes store doesn't show my current iPhone.  Which means any purchases I make there, or any changes to my playlists, don't transfer to my computer.
(For the record, I'm on OS X 10.9.5 and have an iPhone 5 running iOS 8.0.1)

The 'manage devices' section will only potentially show on your account if you've used iTunes Match, automatic downloads on it (has anything been downloaded by it on the phone ?), or redownloaded past purchases on a device/computer : iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID. The section has nothing to do with transferring purchases or playlists.
If you want to transfer your purchases then connect your phone to your computer's iTunes and use the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases menu option - and if you have ibooks or PDFs/epubs in the iBooks on your iPhone do File > Move Books From iTunes in your Mac's iBooks app.

  • HT1386 Is Apple not compatible with Windows 8.1? When I open iTunes, my device doesn't show at all.

When I open iTunes, my device does not show up... connected with USB cable. I'm using a PC with Windows 8.1. Anyone else having this problem? I can't sync wired or wirelessly at all.

    Hello updmom,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

If you get to the part where it asks you to uninstall iTunes, be sure to uninstall iTunes and the other components in the order listed.
    Take care,

  • HT201302 The Logo device doesn't show when Importing personal photos and videos from my iOS device to my computer

When I connect my iPod Touch to my computer (Windows 7) the Photos option that used to pop up, doesn't pop up anymore. I don't know what has changed, if any, on my computer or iPod. I want to import my pictures from my iPod to my computer but the computer isn't detecting the iPod, but the iTunes does, which confuses me. So when I open the Computer folder, the logo for my iPod does not show. iTunes atuomatically recongizes it and starts syncing. This has been happening for quite a while now (Over a month, haven't kept track of how long). Please help me!

    Maybe:
iOS: Unable to import photos to computer
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

  • HT1386 My device doesn't show on iTunes..

I can't sync my iphone 4 to my itunes because my device doesnt show up on the side bar. Ive tried 3 different USB cables so i know its not the cable which is faulty. I also tried turning on and off both my laptop and phone, with no success.
When i plug in my phone to the computer, it asks me if i trust the the deivce, and i click yes. As per usual, it gives me the option to import pictures from my phone to my computer, but no connection to iTunes.
    Any ideas?

Are you using a PC? if so, go into the control panel, add/remove programs. Uninstall iTUnes, Apple mobile device service, apple application support. Then go out to apple.com and redownload and reinstall iTunes and try again

  • IPhone device is not showing up. A 3 years old iPhone, reactivated for my daughter's use. It was mine for the past 3 years, then my husband bought me the 4G for Mother's Day. Have the service turned on but device doesn't show when hooked up to my laptop?

So what do we need to do to get the older phone to show? It did before I switched phones. I have a CD I downloaded into iTunes that she would like to place on her phone.
    Thank you!

There's a whole lot to read in your post, and frankly I have not read it all.
Having said that, this troubleshooting guide should help:

In particular, pay attention to the mobile device support sections near the bottom, assuming you have already done the items above it.

  • Device doesn´t show up in Digital Editions

My new LG G3 with the Aldiko reader application does not show up as a device in Adobe Digital Editions on my computer. I have reinstalled Aldiko on my phone and Adobe ID is the same on both machines. As a result of this I can´t transfer books to my phone. Does anyone knows why this is and preferably has a solution?

    My PRS-350 showed up in ADE2.0 in Windows (once Sony Reader and the driver were installed);
and would work for boutght DRM books.
... but ADE2.0 would not handle library books correctly with the Sony plugged in.
    I use ADE1.7.2 instead.
There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0.  Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/cant-install-digital-editions.html
The forum software is sometimes corrupting the link above.  There shouldn't be a blank in 'editio ns.html'.  The following redirects to the same page: http://tinyurl.com/diged172
If you really want to use ADE2.0 and the Sony won't show up,
you can use ADE2.0 to download the .acsm file and get the DRM .epub file,
and then use Finder (or other file manager) to copy the .epub books from the Mac to the Sony.
As long as the Sony is authorized with the same ID as ADE, your should be able to read the books on it.
If the Sony isn't even showing up as a mapped drive, then there is something wrong at a lower level.
Usually, you don't even need the Sony software for it to show up as a mapped drive.

You have to purchase it. Major ugrades from Apple are not free. Leopard is no longer sold so copies are getting difficult to find and prices are pretty high. Apple may have copies still for sale:

If your computer meets the requirements for Snow Leopard that would be a less expensive option since you can buy Snow Leopard at an Apple Store or online for $29.00.

    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.

  • Devices does not show up in left-hand column

Ipod nano is connected to USB port and has fully charged. "Devices" doesn't show up in left-hand column.  Library, Store, Genius, and Playlists are listed.  Looked on public forums, but no viable solution displayed.  I welcome suggestions.  Nano was not recognized when used an older cable.  2nd cable worked.
I think it could be my PC's problem.  It doesn't list the nano in control panel.
I reset the nano, to no avail.
    Thanks.Greg

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Unless you have any devices it won't show up. The Apple TV is not a device that shows up in the devices list in iTunes, that was the Apple TV 1.
