DEVICES missing from new desktop release

Ever since being forced to upgrade to the new desktop release (1.0.1.1060) my DEVICES has disappeared from my side menu.I have been looking all over the place for some kind of Setting that I need to change but it looks like there's nothing that is causing it.
WHERE ARE THE DEVICES ?!?!
THIS IS AN UPGRADE ?!?!?

One of the cardinal sins of new software releases is to come out with a version with LESS features than the current one. If they're working on an extensive rebuild which requires a complete rewrite of the current core code then the first released version should have at least the equivalent amount of features. That's just simple logic. If they're not regretting it now then they will when Apple comes out with their streaming service in June. Spotify just managed to get into the black for the first time in the past year, so I'm predicting they go under within 2-3yrs after Apple enters the market.
and you just know that Apple will use its pull to do things such as exclusive releases which will really kill Spotify. If Apple is able to exclusively release a U2 album then you know they've got the ability (and $$$) to release anybody. I wouldn't be surprised if they had The Beatles available. That alone would be a huge blow to Spotify.

  • Why are my Airplay devices missing from the desktop Airplay menu bar?

From my desktop, all devices are visible in iTunes and when I option-click volume.  All devices are visible from my IOS devcies.  But most devices are missing under the Airplay menu at top of my desktop. The only devices visible are Apple TV.  Thus, I cannot select multiple Airplay devices to play at once from my desktop, but am confined to selecting a single device through the option-click volume menu.
    Thanks all.

Play audio from my iMac to multiple airplay devices (speakers).  I can do so through iTunes, but not outside of iTunes.  For example, I cannot stream audio to multiple devices from a browser.  Perhaps I am looking at the wrong menu. Thanks for inquiring.
This thread (https://discussions.apple.com/message/21771160#21771160) seems to suggest in can only be done through iTunes.

  • Podcast Missing from New AppleTV...

Anyone else notice that that section is missing from the GUI of the new appleTV? are they really getting rid of Podcasts? I'd be sorry to see that go as i'm an avid user of Podcasts.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was concerned about this, I would say 50% of my usage of my current Apple TV is video podcasts. Interestingly, reviews never talk much about this but I find you have pretty good on demand content via podcasts.

  • HELP! My documents, jpegs, etc. missing from Macbook desktop!

A couple of these were pretty important.....like my recently inventoried comic book collection on an Appleworks doc. I had a lot of hours invested in that! It disappeared from my desktop a couple days ago. I tried Time Machine...but that doesn't give an option to restore a desktop item any further back than today. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Without more information, it's going to be difficult to help. We can only make some guesses.
First, regarding Time Machine, did you have it set up and running previously, or did you turn it on for the first time after noticing those items were gone? If the latter, Time Machine only backs up files while it is on, so there aren't any backups for before that point.
If you already had Time Machine turned on, be sure you're using it correctly. See the [Time Machine FAQ|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1964018] and [Time Machine Troubleshooting guide|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2057525].
If those files are truly gone, not just misplaced, and are not in any backup, then your only choice will be to use data recovery tools like [Data Rescue|http://www.prosofteng.com> or [File Salvage|http://subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=1]. The results are not likely to be perfect, though.

  • Devices Missing from Home Hub 2 List

I have seen many entries on various forums about people connecting device and not seeing them on the network list.
I had this problem and went through all the suggestions and finally did a reset to factory defaults. This cured the problem temporarily but it returned the following day.
After lots of analysis it seems that the HH2 can only display 10 devices at any one time, so when I added the 11th device to my network – it does not seem to matter weather its wireless or not, it is not in the list – delete an existing entry and refresh and the new device appears.
Is this normal behaviour or is my HH2 faulty?

    marcelaj1 wrote:
I know they are connected as I first noticed the issue when the P.C. I was logged onto interface with was not in the list.
From what you are saying this is normal for these things.
Its much the same on the home hub 1. Sometimes devices do not show as connected, even though they exist in the main device list. I get the impression that the web display only updates if the device has been active for a while.
There is nothing in the firmware to trigger anything, when a device status changes.
If I log into the telnet interface on the HH1, and use the command "hostmgr list", the device is shown on the list.
Telnet is not available on the HH2.
I would not rely too much on the device list. If you really want to see if a device is present, then simply "ping" it.
I actually use static addresses on my network, as it makes it easier to detect if a device is active.

  • Recovery disc missing from new iMac (late 2012)

My iMac doesn't boot from the recovery partition. If I boot with the option key (alt) it only shows one bootable volume. If I boot with cmd-R it takes longer but still boots from the main volume.
I've run Disk Utility in debug mode and it shows that there is a recovery partition. I've mounted it, and looks as if it has the right stuff on it:
    com.apple.boot.P
    com.apple.recovery.boot
    System
So, what is going on? It looks as if the boot process isn't recognising the recovery disc as a valid boot volume.
    Any idea why?
The machine is fresh out of the box this week and I've not yet migrated my old system, so it's about as standard as you can get.

Thank you Mende, for that useful suggestion!
Unfortunately, looking it up, I find that recovery over the Internet takes several hours.
Also, I've updated my machine from the 10.8.2 it shipped with to 10.8.3 and I still don't ahve a recovery drive.
As I said, I can see that there is a recovery partition and it appears to have a recovery system on it, is there some way that I can make it visible to the boot loader? It looks as if that is all that's missing...
Has Apple said anything about why it has left the recovery drive off the latest iMacs? It seems to me to be an even odder thing to leave out than the Infra Red connection (which is very annoying because I've a very useful and expensive Apple Remote that's quite new and now useless - it doesn't work for my Macbook Pro either). I can understand them leaving the DVD drive out and it wasn't too much hassle to connect an external DVD which works quite well.

  • Sample apps missing from new SDK

    Hi Guys,
I just installed the new SDK and is it just me or are the sample apps missing?
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
    Was this problem solved?
I double-checked and the SampleApps folder is there for me when I download the SDK Payload from our Production servers.
It could have been a bad download for you or something. You might want to try again.
I am attaching the sampleapps to this post for you in case the download doesn't work for you.
Please let me know if you need anything else.

  • Device Switch from Palm Desktop 4.1.4 to BB Desktop 4.6.0.13 hangs - no data

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the BB Desktop Software (downloaded a version from October from AT&T website). When I try to move my data from my Palm Desktop software v 4.1.4 to BB Desktop, it processes 6096 calendar entries out of 6395 and hangs. No data is transferred to the BB. Any suggestions? I could live with not transferring any calendar data - I need to get my contacts over and can't do that.
Help. I have 3000+ contacts I need to get over.
I tried blue tooth beaming my contacts from my Palm Tungsten T5 to my BB Bold but that fails (I think the Tungsten bluetooth doesn't have the right protocol for the Bold).

If you have done multiple installations of the desktop manager I think the first thig
would be to use this procedure and reinstall the 4.6 softare. The procedure will clean all
registry entries that may affect latter versions.
First we need to clean the machine:

I inserted my thumbdrive into my MacBook Pro and it showed up. However, I went to rename the device and accidently chose "Remove from sidebar". Now when I plug it in, the thumbdrive doesn't even show up. How can I get it to show up again?

My system is a HP Envy 14 - 1240ep. I'm using BIOS F.23, I tried F.26, but the BIOS update didn't solve the problem.
I tried Disabling the BIOS option for LAN sleep mode, but that disn't solve it neither.
I have a clean install of Win7 Pro 64-bits, and tried to install the original SwSetup NIC dirvers (however, since I've got the error for unplugged cable, I'm not sure if everything went ok).
My NIC is in "comma" for 2 weeks now. During the past 2-3 months it would work sometimes after the cable was plugged in for 3-4 hours. In spite of turning on it would go off after any stand-by, restart or shutdown.
I'm starting to get empty of ideas to crack this problem.
    Any suggestion?

  • ILife missing from new mac!

    Hello there
I've just got my brand new Mac - literally just 10 mins ago, and thats me all set up. I bought it online from a UK retailer, and although it was refurbished, it was advertised that it would include iLife
"Includes iTunes, Time Machine, Quick Look, Spaces, Spotlight, Dashboard, Mail, iChat, Safari, Address Book, QuickTime, iCal, DVD Player, Photo Booth, Front Row, Xcode Developer Tools and more
Includes iLife (iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand and iWeb)"
However, the machine doesn't include this whatsoever, and was wondering what I do?
    Thanks

Return it to the retailer and make them show you where the files are. If they cannot, get your money back and then buy directly from Apple.
There are a number of posts around here about so-called "new" Macs that turned out to be 1-2 years old. The thought is that some resellers--typically not Apple Authorized ones--get new but out-of-date machines (returned overstock, for example) and wipe the hard drive to reinstall a later OS. This takes out the pre-installed programs. You should consider reporting the firm to Apple if you find they are doing this switch-a-roo selling.
You can enter your serial number here:
Check Your Service & Support Coverage
and that might help determine if Apple still sees the computer in warranty. Some people with similar third-party vendor issus like you describe have entered their serai lnumber to find they have no warranty coverage.
Apple products are in high demand; that brings out those things that live under rocks and eat slime for a living.

  • Photos missing from new albums. We just spent days making up new albums, now albums are empty!!

A little backround as we're new to this.
We imported all our photos onto our new Macbook pro from our old Macbook.
Then created smart albums for each year to sort the photos.
Then copied photos from each year into normal albums, so we could delete and edit the photos.
We then deleted the smart albums after we had finished copying and pasting the photos we wanted.
Everything worked fine until we went on holiday, so I shut the computer down.
Now I've started it back up and all the new albums are totally empty?!!
    Please help!!!!

We imported all our photos onto our new Macbook pro from our old Macbook
Did you import the library from the old MB into a library on the new MB?  If so that was the wrong way to move your library from the old MB to the new MB.
Then created smart albums for each year to sort the photos.
Then copied photos from each year into normal albums, so we could delete and edit the photos.
The correct way to move photos from a smart album into a regular album is to select the photos in the SA and use the File ➙ New Album menu option.  That immediately create a new album with the contents of the SA.  No need to copy or paste (if that's that you did as that would duplicate photos rather than point to the orignals. Remember albums are like playlists in iTune.  Just pointers to the tracks and not actual files.
We then deleted the smart albums after we had finished copying and pasting the photos we wanted.
How did you go about this?  Did you delete just the smart album or the phtoos in the SA?  If it were the latter then you deleted the photos from the library entirely including from all other albums, slideshows, books or whatever they might have been in. That's because what's in albums are pointers to the original photos in their Events.

  • Cvs missing from new installation

I've just installed OS X Server 10.4(.0) and am having trouble running cvs. I just noticed that there is no "cvs" in /usr/bin. There are similar files, like cvs-diff-branch.
Shouldn't cvs be installed automatically? Did I miss something?
    Thanks
    Scott

OK. nevermind. I decided to try the simplest possible thing, copy /usr/bin/cvs from a backup, and to my surprise I am now able to at least log in ('test') using MacCVSClient.

  • Face time missing from new Iphone what to do?

Face time is missing form my new IPhone4 what to do?

First.  Where did you buy your iPhone?  Some countries (Middle Eastern) prohibit the installation of FaceTime.
Second.  Is FaceTime enabled in settings?
Third.  FaceTime doesn't have a separate app.  You initiate a FaceTime via an icon on a contacts page.
