Devices not showing up on home network
I have a home network that includes a Mac Mini hooked up to our TV, MPB, MB, iPhone, and iPod Touch. The Mac Mini is my media hub. I have home sharing turned on, so that in a perfect world, I could watch my iTunes library on my phone, etc. Additionally, I often use the "Remote" app on my phone to control iTunes on the big screen.
The problem is that sometimes my phone can connect to the mini, sometimes it can't. Sometimes the MPB sees the MB, or the Mini, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes restarting the router solves the problem, sometimes it doesn't. Basically, sometimes any or all of the devices can see each other, and sometimes they can't. Durring all of this, connection to the internet is always working.
Any advice would really help.

My Macbook Air with Lion does not show up on my network to any of my other computers (PC's) , even though it is connected to my wifi and does access the Internet. In addition, my other computers sometimes show up in Finder and sometimes they're not there. Sometimes they do show in Finder and when I click on them, I get "Connection Failed", other times, they connect. Also some shared folders on those other computers, which are PC's are not accessible, even though fully shared. My network is Apple Airport Extreme and works perfectly otherwise, including all PC's being able to see each other. Help would be much appreciated
I got the same problem. I want to access my shared folder on my home windows7 from my MBA. Tried many suggestions on the web but all to no avail. I thought that should be very trivial. Maybe a Lion bug?

Audible books not showing up in home sharing
On my new mac mini I brought some books from Audible they appear in iTunes
under "Books" but they do not appear under the home sharing and I am unable to tranfeer
them to my older machine where I keep my media filesGuess I should have looked at FAQ first looks like Apple does not allow us to do this

Just in case anyone else has this problem, here is what Apple replied to me: "Dear Carol, Greetings from Apple iTunes Customer Support. I am Sayantan and I am glad to assist you today. I understand you are unable to share audio books using home sharing. I know how upsetting it can be. I will help you with this. Unfortunately, you cannot share iTunes Store Audio Books, Audible spoken word content, or QuickTime sound files. In accordance with iTunes Store policy, you may share the music in your library and playlists with up to five other computers, provided the following conditions are met: 1. Your computer is using Mac OS X version 10.4.11 or later, Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7. 2. The other computers are on the same local area network as your computer, in the same subnet. To share a song in a password-protected shared library or playlist, you will need to enter a password. To share a song that was purchased using an iTunes Store account that is not authorized on the computer you are using, you will need to enter the Apple ID and password with which the song was purchased. You can share MP3, AIFF, WAV, AAC, and radio station links, but you cannot share iTunes Store Audio Books, Audible spoken word content, or QuickTime sound files. Airdisk does not show up on my network
I have used an Airport extreme to create a home network. I have connected my laptop to the network via the ethernet connection and my media player is wiressly connected to the network. Network is working fine and both media player and laptop can see each other. However I have a USB hard disk connected to the airport express which does not show up on the network. However the USB hard disk does show up/recognised in the airport utility . Help!!
I'm also trying to connect a network hard drive to my new Airport Extreme (that's why I bought it) in a PC network of up to 6 connections. The network is fine, no problems, but the hard drive is invisible. I have formatted the drive as exFAT, as none of my computers have a FAT32 format option, only NTFS and exFAT.
The disk shows up on the AE, but only as its default identity, not the labeled volume. And, when I try to Map Network Drive, using 10.0.1.1 (I'm not even sure this is the right address, REALLY tough to find in the Help) for the AE and the volume label, per the Vista Map Network Drive utility, nothing.
I may have to return the AE to the dealer. That would be a shame.
Any suggestions?

My ipod 4 when i plug it to my pc Windows 7 had worked fine for 8 months then one day i plug it in and a message came USB device not recognized, i tried reset network settings and nothing i did not install any software before this happend i called apple they did not know, any help out there TX

The latest version of iTunes on a 3-month old Mac Mini (8 gig RAM, OS 10.10.2) does not see any of the shared iTunes libraries on a MacBookPro (MBP) (OS 10.9.5) and a 14-month old Mac Mini (OS 10.9.5). And a network shared drive/media server does not appear as well. I have a Gigabite Ethernet G4 and on it, the MPB and the "old" mini I can see the various shared music libraries and NAS, but not on the new Mini.
The little house with a music note inside it that I see on the upper left corner of the iTunes 12.1 window on my MBP does not appear on iTunes 12.1 on the new Mac Mini. I have gone through all the iTunes preferences and can not find where I can turn on this feature. The new Mac Mini is on the local network and I can reach the internet successfully.
I have been using iTunes since its beginning (still have a PowerTower Pro with a working copy of SoundJam), so I am not a newbie, but this has me baffled.May I add, that I gave full rights to the user at the Mac Mini to access and change data on the server drive for ITunes Media.

The Wi-fi on my iPhone 4 does not connect to my home network or other networks that I have used in the past. I noticed this after I updated to version 6. I have tried to reset network settings ;turn off and on wi-fi; reset home network and it's still not working. Is there a fix for this problem?
Try resetting your network settings. Go to General\Reset\Reset Netork Settings. Sometimes this will fix things. If not, what type of router do you have, what network are you running (B, G, N, etc.).,

My new IPhone 5 does not pick up my home network.My wife's new Iphone 5 has no such issue.I get a message "unable to connect' although the correct network appears.Never get to the prompt screen asking for my network password.Keeps trying to connect but never does.Have switched on /off button and turnesd off phone back on several times.

I fixed the problem on my own , hey I'm a genius!! I clicked on my i-pod tab on the left column in i tunes and where the options for podcast tab is just changed the sync option to all podcasts instead of last looked at. Now i have all my podcasts in the video podcast menu on my i pod.

Recently purchased iPad Mini. Downloaded iOS 6.0.1. Could not get it to connect to Home WiFi using Linksys G Router. Have another Wifi Network in Home (CenturyLink provided it as a DSL/Router combo). Would not connect (nor would my iPhone 4s or my wife's iPhone 4) until I accessed the router's setting and changed to broadcast on Channel 6 and then IPad connected. I suspect the only reason the iPhone were still connected to the Linksys network is that they were before I "upgraded to iOS 6. Even after 6.0.2 the iPad and both iPhones will not connect to some home networks (its random) although thye will connect to public networks e.g. McDonald's, Panera, etc.

Check out the articles below to troubleshoot issues with connecting to Wi-Fi. Start with creating a new Network Location and then search for a Wi-Fi network and if that does not work, then go through second article to troubleshoot the issue further.

Had the same issue. Tried everything that was posted for troubleshooting bye apple and on the discussions.
Finally, tried something that solved it and it works flawlessly now. I changed my wireless router.
I was using my ISP's supplied ZyXEL PN660 ADLS2+ with Wireless N. Swtiched to an older Linksys WRT160N and it is working beautifully now.
Take a look at your router, make sure the firmware is up to date, and that UPnP is enabled, and if all is correct, and you have done everything else, try another Wireless router if you can. -

I have been using this computer for many months with no problem using firewire devices. I recently set up a seperate user account on the computer for my daughter. Prior to this ( for many months)I had a fireiwre device - LACIE external HD -connected that would mount each time at startup and show up on the desktop. Now, I can't get the icon on the desktop of the LACIE to show when I startup. I connected a camera to the computer using firewire, but it too would not show ( before it would). When I connected the camera using USB, it showed up on the desktop. Looks like firewire devices not showing. I checkd System Profile and it shows the LACIE device as connected and functioning. But it won't show up on the desktop. Any ideas on why I can't ge the Firewire devices to show on the desktop?

G5 Dual 2.7 Mac OS X (10.4)Sounds like you have the name wrong. Open Disk Utility and take a look to verify the volume name. Disk Utility will list the drive itself, then indented below that is the volume name. To verify that you are using the correct name, try launching Terminal and do a list command:
ls -a /Volumes/"Name of Volume"
Hit the return key and see if the contents of the volume are listed. There is a space after "ls" and another after "-a"--if you don't get anything or get an error then you might want to try
ls -a /Volumes
and try copying the name from the list and pasting into the AppleScript.
