DFS server removal

Hello,
I have a domain controller that I would like to decomission and remove. It is also one of three namespace servers. How can I remove it as a namespace server? It actually isn't sharing any files in the namspace on the server.

Do it in the DFS console. On the left click on the namespace that this DC is a namespace for. On the right click on the Namespace Servers tab. Highlight the DC and click on Delete to the right of that.

DFS server / SIte and Services

Hi Guys,
A knowledge question about DFS server Windows 2008 R2.
I have four data center on each Europe location, and I will install DFS server also on the location to attach the data on the nearly site location. My domain level is Windows 2008.
Example:
Site A: 192.168.1.x
Site B: 192.178.1.x
Site C: 192.188.1.x
Site D: 192.198.1.x
I have already setup a DFS server on Site A and its working, with example IP number: 192.168.1.100, now I will setup a new DFS server for Site B, C and D. with using Full mesh replication.
When I setup a new server on site B example with IP number: 192.178.1.100 and ready to use. But if the user logon from Site B, the user have to use DFS server from site B and not from Site A site. (to get his data from server site A) If the DFS server from
site B is down the user will get his Data from Site A. She have always use Site B, how can I build this way on each location.
I heard that I have to crate a Site for this option and other information what I get is use costs options. ( and do I need a domain controller on each site)
Can somebody advice how to build and the best practice DFS server on multiple locations with one or more DFS server on location.

Actually it is not a DFS related question - It is AD related.
As you said you need to create sites for your different subnets and setup site link cost. Detailed steps please refer to:

By Default DFS will provide an in-site target to clients. If no in-site target is available, it will provide an out-site target according to site link cost.

AppleIDAuthAgent[245]: SERVER Removing certificate for Apple ID

After installing Mountain Lion I can no longer use my Apple ID in the OS, except in iTunes. Whenever I try loggin into Messages, App Store or iCloud I get errors about not being able to communicate with the server. The ID works fine for logging in here as well as the web version of iCloud, and it works on my iphone too. My console is filled with these messages, appearing every ~5 seconds...

DFS server Copy create on another location

Hi,
we have a DFS server on one location and we need to copy all the file and folders from the DFS server to another server on other location. Same DFS root need to be configured on the new server on other locationSite
Site A - DFS1 server Create a same copy of server site B - DFS1 server enable replication. Both should be onlive on production
Couple of query
Can I copy the files manuall and Configure the DFS or just enable the DFS replication after installing new server on other location/

Hi,
I suggest you enable the DFS replication after installing new server on other location. When you configure DFS replication between the two server, all the file and folders on the old server will be replicated automatically. Please note you need to set the old
server as primary server when configure DFS replication.

You could also copy the files manually then configure the DFS on the new server, but it is not as simple as DFS replication.

VSS on DFS Server

We have two Physical Windows 2012 R2 Storage Edition configured as DFS.
Server B is read only and nobody can access it, all the clients conntect to server A.
On both server we have activated VSS
We have 6 TB of shared data on the server.
One share is very large 3TB and its staging area is 1 TB large.
In DFS event log I see 4202 error for this share.
VSS are scheduled at 10 am and 15 pm and stored on a different disk partition 1,5 TB large.
When VSS start and for an hour long server A:
- stop responding to user interfaces
- windows 2003, 2003 R2, xp client can't connect anymore to the shares
- windows 2008, vista or higher access to share is very slow
Any ideas?

If you can access the shared folder using IP address, you could enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP on server to see if the issue still exists.

10.7 Server - Remove RAID 0 ?

Hi, I recently upgraded my Mac Mini SL server to Lion server ... after having some troubles I reinstalled it.
I configured the drives (2x500GB) to be in a raid array (mirror).
Is it possible to remove the raid easily?
i was thinking of:
- Superduper the entire disk to an external device
- Remove the raid config leaving 2 separate disks
- Restore the superduper image to the first disk;
- (use the second one as a TM-backup).
I not quite happy with Lion as it is extremely slow. Opening safari or any othe application causes the system to not respond for a few seconds, even minutes. Could the raid config be a cause of these hickups?

Is the OS installed on the RAID drive? It seems really strange that everything would be so slow... are you sure both drives are healthy? Have you run Techtool Pro or some other disk utility on them?
As far as cloning the drive, your plan should work. I use CCC to clone my boot volume nightly, and can boot back and forth as needed. But if the drives are running poorly (the drives in the Mac Mini are like 5200 RPM laptop drives), it might take forever to clone.

24/7 laptop server remove battery?

I just acquired an old PowerBook G4, which I plan to install and run as a 24/7 media server which will stay plugged in permanently and never be physically touched.
Should I remove the battery permanently?
I'm just wondering if the battery is a fire hazard, or whether it would get damaged by remaining plugged in 24/7 and never actually being used to hold a charge, etc. Or that it would use more energy.

Conventional wisdom is that the battery acts to smooth out the power supplied by the AC adapter, and is an important component for reliable operation of the computer. It can be removed for debugging, but should not be removed from a computer in constant use.
If you wish to lengthen battery life and maintain the battery in working order, the recommendation is to discharge/recharge it about once a month.
Be sure that the screen is blanked when possible, as leaving it on full time will make it become permanently and irreparably dim.

Exchange server-Removing a Domain Controller from the forest

Hi Guys,
I need some help on removing a faulty domain controller from the AD forest. Here is the scenario:
1. The FSMO roles have been seized to a new domain controller already.
2. The old one is non-functional and is down for ever.
I know the steps would be doing a meta-data cleanup And then remove some of the DNS entries related to the old server. But the real issue is:
> I have Exchange 2013 running in one of the machines configured in the Forest, which was migrated from the old Domain controller. I then set Exchange listening to the new domain controller.
So, my doubt is, if I delete the old domain controller and do a metadata cleanup, would it have any effect on the exchange server? The Exchange machine acts as an additional domain controller as well. Its a production environment and any
change that affects Exchange would cause a big loss. Looking forward for your valuable suggestions..

I don't have issues with the AD on the Exchange server. Eventhough it is configured as an AD, Exchange is pointed to the main working domain controller, which is a different machine. I just want to remove the traces of an old domain controller from which
I transferred the FSMO roles to the new domain controller. The old domain controller is completely down and hence I can't do a conventional 'dcpromo' on it. So just planning to do a 'metadata clean up' for removing the non-working DC from the forest.
So, In essence, I just want to know that, if I do a metadata cleanup, would it affect the Exchange server in any way?

LDAP server removed from tree still being referenced.

It seems a server I have removed from my tree is still being referenced.
On my Apache console screen im seeing it referencing 172.16.10.1. Which, again, has been removed.
ldap *MASTER[172.16.10.1] down
LDAP initialization failed. Check LDAP and restart apache.
That's what im getting. I ran a PKIDiag 4-0. That didn't fix me.
If someone could point me in the right direction to resolving this issue, I would certainly appreciate it.

Since SDK J2EE 5 server takes many resources, I would like to be able to remove it from the list of programs which start with Windows XP PRO start up.
How could I possibly do that?

if you say yes,
then
type msconfig in start->run
click startup tab and deselect the corresponding checkbox
or
go to control panel -> administrator tools -> services -> select the service , then right click properties and select disable in drop down,
or
control panel -> add or remove programs -> select j2ee-xxx remove it

Remote installation option for SAPsetup installation server removed.

Hi all,
I have been using SAPsetup Installation Server for distributing SAPGUI 6.4. Many options with this version, remote installation and Load Balancing to name a couple right within SAPADMIN. I have put the latest version 7.10 on a test server and those options are no longer available. Also I don't even see and upgrade option, am I missing something? Is it possible to use the old installation server to push out the new SAPGUI, if so how?

the installation software for SAPGUI 7.10is completely new and you can't distribute a SAPGUI 7.10 with an Installation Serrver installed with the SAPGUI 6.40 CD.

PowerShell Print Server remove checkmark from print share "List in the Directory"

I needed to remove the checkmark in the "List in the directory" box under printer queue sharing for several hundred print queues on multiple Windows 2003 print servers. I ended up doing it manually because I could not figure out how to do it with
PowerShell. Would like to be prepared for next time and learn a bit more about PowerShell. Scripting newbie. Anyone able to get me started? Couldn't find the registry key pertaining to the setting though I could find it under get-wmiobject
- class win32_printer ... -property published. Have googled for 2 days. Most of the scripts suggestions that seem to apply are a bit more extensive and complicated than I am willing to tackle with my experience level.

Great code. I wanted the opposite (to enable it) so I wrote this - which checks to see if the printer has a . in the portname (which for me shows it has an IP address) and to see that it's not already shared.

Was the NTP server removed from Mountain Lion Server?

I can't find the settings in the Server app or information in the documentation. Is the NTP server gone?

I think I have figured this out for Lion so I imagine it is not much different in Mountian Lion.
/etc/ntp.conf on both clients and servers has a line indicating which time server the local machine is looking at.
On our server it points to time.apple.com. On our clients it points the the FQDN of our server.
On clients and servers the ntpd daemon appears to be running by default.
Server Admin had a button to enable the local NTP server. That is the only thing I cannot see for sure from the .conf files.
Possibly this is all running by default and we can just point each machine to the appropriate server.
Any other ideas?

DFS-R folder resources Failed in Failover Cluster on Server 2008 R2

Maybe a week ago, 7 of our DFS-R Folder failover cluster resources lost their configuration data. In the resource list, they just show up as "()".
I've seen suggestions online that disabling the replicated folder will remove it from the Failover Cluster, and then re-enabling it will automatically add it back to the cluster. So, I've disabled it via the Connections tab, and that does nothing. The other
option is to disable it under the Memberships tab...but that has consequences, and I would rather not do that if it isn't necessary.
I'm also now seeing event ID 5012's popping up in the DFS Replication logs every hour or so.
The DFS Replication service failed to communicate with partner etc etc. The partner did not recognize the connection or the
replication group configuration.
Error: 9026 (The connection is invalid)
Now, "dfsrdiag pollad /verbose" or "dfsrdiag pollad /mem:<dc name>" both come back as successful. And a DFS Diagnostic Report brings back nothing apparently relevant to this issue, other than one error concerning the same event
ID 5012's.
Also, I've verified that it's not a DNS issue, pinging the home office DFS server from the site server resolves correctly, and vice versa. And the windows firewall is disabled on both servers. It's POSSIBLE that there is a network issue. Replication works
fine between the site server and the 2nd cluster server service, just not between the site server and the 1st cluster server service. However, via netstat I see active connections between the site server and the cluster server, as well as the active cluster
host (although, just a single connection to the clustered DFS server, but ~6 to the cluster host itself).
So, I'm completely at a loss here. Any recommendations?
