DFS targets access in one site

Hello everyone. I've red a bunch of articles about DFS targets and their failover, but still cannot understand how failover works in one AD site.
I have two 2008 R2 servers with DFS role, domain based namespace. I want to create replication between two shares in DFS. So, I still have 2 questions:
1. What I need to configure so users can access only first target on DFS share? i.e.:
\\domain.local\shares (root namespace)
ShareX - target on srv1
ShareX - target on srv2
I want users to access dfs target only from srv1, and go to target (ShareX on srv2) automatically in case of srv1 fail.
2. Which best practice: to create two targets and then create replication between then, or create a separate replication group with all shares?

1. In referral settings (you could find in DFS management), you could set target on srv1 as "first among all equal cost targets".
2. If you have several shares, you could create several "folders" under \\domain.local\shares, link with different targets and create replication gorups.
For example we will create:
\\domain.local\shares
\IT
\HR
\others
And when you create a second folder target in one of these folders, it will ask if you need to create a replication group. Create them separately so you could easily manage them later.

Security warning 'access more than one site..' - URGENT HELP

(USING: Reader 707 + Reader extension 702 or Acrobat 707 )
I am having big trouble with this Acrobat/reader security warning:
Security Warning
'This document as accessed more than one site and might be trying to share data among different locations. This could be a privacy concern. Are you sure you want to continue?'
I know it is more an acrobat/Reader issue than designer, but hope that one outthere has ideas.
Problem:
We have 4 servers sharing the load for a webservice. I have coded webservice connection in javascript in Designer 7.1 using SOAP.
The webservice look up data, but i recieve the security warning each time I perform the look up. I have added all sites to Trust Manager, so that is not the problem!
I think the very problem is that Acrobat/Reader request to a DNS alias, but later recieve response from ONE of the specific servers!
Acrobat/Reader request webService on:
http://ck/web/services/FormularWebservice?wsdl;
Acrobat/Reader recieve answer from (for example: da1650 - one of the 4 servers)
http://da1650:9081/web/services/FormularWebservice?wsdl;
So Acrobat/Reader shows the security warning because it suddenly recieve a response from a server that is does not know it has requested against - This is what I think happens!
Have anyone experinced a similiar situation? any ideas? All comments/ideas/solutions are appreciated. As the warning is very anoying to the user I cannot launch my LC forms so I need a solution...

Customer login access restricted to one site?

I'm trying to test the customer login access and I found something troubling. When giving access to more than one site I receive, "Username is in use by customer: John Fakename." What happens if my clients have more than one location? Is there a way around this? Please let me know. Thanks!

This may be a bit of longshot, but if your customer uses or is willing to use gmail (or google apps email) you could assign email addreses of [email protected] and [email protected] and [email protected] all the emails would go to the same inbox and can be assigned ad hoc, but the onplus system should recognize them as unique email addresses.

Can't Access One Site - Common Threads

I have recently been hit by the unable to access one site problem.
Having read through all the threads, it seems many people are identifying it as a possible DNS issue; however, it seems that almost all of the issues are with people who are hosting their own web servers off-site.
I was hoping this thread could gather information from people who are having/had this issue?
1) Was the inaccessible site self-hosted?
2) Did you have any server changes, etc?
3) Have you solved the issues, how?
Hopefully this gets to the bottom of things.

There is one site that I am aware of that I can not access using my Airport. I have narrowed down the issue to the Airport so far. When I bypass the Airport, the web site connects. Both my Macbook and two PC's can not access this site if I connect via the Airport. I have reset, powered down, booted the modem, worked with Norton and Comcast: still no fix.
I tried changing settings in the utility tool that were suggested on the boards here and still no correction. If anyone has an idea, please post here. Thanks. If I find a correction, I will post here.

Can't access one site

I'm a web developer and I uploaded changes to a client's site wednesday evening. The client called the next morning to say one of the files had not uploaded, but when I tried to ftp to the site again, my ftp software could not connect to the server. I tried a different ftp app, and it couldn't connect either.
I called both my hosting service and my ISP and everything worked for them. Finally I used my room-mate's PC to upload the files, but when I tried to check them on my iMac, Safari could not find the server. I tried Firefox and IE and they couldn't find the server either. My room-mate's PC can and the client's PC can. I Googled the site and clicked on the links that showed up and Safari could not find the server. I went to associate sites where my client's site is listed and clicked on the links and Safari can't find the server. It's as if this one site has become anathema on my computer.
I reset Safari to no avail. I rebooted my computer and modem, I ran Repair Permissions in Disc Utility.
I can't think of what else to do. Any thoughts?

I just got off the phone with my Hosting company (thankfully a friend of mine) and I have stumped him, but here's what we know.
I am able to access his server if I type in the numeric IP address and add /~username/
I am receiving email from the server
I can not connect to his server, or any web site on his server, by typing the site url in the address bar, from bookmarks, from Google links.
I cannot ftp to any of my client's sites on his server.
So, he thinks that my computer, for some reason, is not converting the DNS information correctly. I need to know how to find how and why this is happening and how to fix it.

Problem accessing just one web site. No other site...

I am having problems today connecting to just one website which I use daily.
I get the "internet explorer can not display the webpage" message and the dropdown gives the usual possibilities.
If I put the web address into "isitdownforeveryone or just me" then that reports the site up and running.
I cleared all temp files/cookies, ran a full disk clean and cleaned all in IE that was cleanable. I did the ipconfig /flush DNS command and netstop and net start DNS cache commands and still no joy.
While I kept trying I accidently clicked on the "diagnose problems" on IE failed to display page message and that said something like that "the host server at address 290.xxx.xxx etc had been found but fails to respond when pinged" and that resetting the network can fix problems. I then reset the BT Home Hub and low and behold I had instant access to the problem site. That was OK for the rest of the time the PC was on.
This evening it has done exactly the same (just this one particular site down) and yet resetting the router has again fixed the issue.
Why is this happening all of a sudden and why just seemingly one site affected ? Is it something I should contact BT over ?

I haven't tried another browser (I like IE and didn't want to install something I don't really want) but I could do to aid trobleshooting if needed (I use Acronis so can roll back).
Anyhow after all the trouble yesterday I unplugged the HH rather than doing a "soft" reset via the button. The site that was problematic is at the moment OK.
If a site is unobtainable for whatever reason why does a reset of the HH "find" a path to the site only for it to fail again.
I see others have had similar issues although Bing.com is one I do use and that has been fine for me.
Whether this is related or not I have no idea but after all the resetting of the HH i thought I would just try Speedtest.net to make sure my line profile hadn't suffered. The "ping" value was a little higher than normal but what was was odd was that the server automatically chosen to run the test was at the other end of the country rather than more local ones.

Trouble accessing one site.

When the router (WRT54GS) is in place I am unable to get to www.pogo.com. When I remove the router it comes up fine, I have tried setting up one machine on the DMZ setting to bypass anything that might be causing this and still it will not reach the one site. I did change the original setup so I figured maybe I goofed somewhere so I reset the router back to defaults and still nothing. I know this is probably a noob thing and I hate asking but I couldn't think of anything else to try. I thought at first it was routing issues with Comcast until I removed the router from the situation. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Click start >> control panel >> internet options >> under security >> custom level >> security settings ..... choose reset to "medium" ....click apply & ok .....
Under "privacy" click "advanced" ..... check "Override cookies" ....click ok ....

DFS Targets Not Working

I need to accomplish a task.
SERVER1 has 2 separate volumes; E: and F:
E: contains a folder called DATA1
F: contains a folder called DATA2
I need to provide users a share path \\SERVER1\Share (or domainname.local\Share) which contains data from both DATA1 and DATA2.
I was under the impressions that I could accomplish this with DFS. I have configured a DFS namespace of \\SERVER1\Namespace with Folder name of 'DATA'. Under 'DATA' in DFS management I have added both targets of \\SERVER1\DATA1 and \\SERVER1\DATA2. When
I navigate to \\SERVER1\Share\DATA it only displays contents of DATA1, not both.
It looks like DFS does not accomplish what I would like to do, or I am just doing something wrong. Either way, does anyone have an idea of how to accomplish this? Running on Server 2008. Thanks in advance!

If you add the two folder targets in the same DFS Namespace root folder, the path \\SERVER1\Share\DATA point to \\SERVER1\DATA1 or \\SERVER1\DATA2. We cannot access the path \\SERVER1\Share\DATA to display contents of the both folder targets. If you configure
the option to return DFS targets outside the client’s site in random order, the path \\SERVER1\Share\DATA randomly point to \\SERVER1\DATA1 or \\SERVER1\DATA2.

If you want to display contents of the two folder targets, you need to create two root folders in the DFS Namespace \\SERVER1\Share.

Create password access to a site in Dreamweaver CC

Trying to create a password protected site. I have an intro page and want to have a password required to access the main site. I am using hostgator and from what I can see, they only have a username password access. I need just the password access for our members to access the site. I added server behaviors ext to my Dreamweaver CC but the + sign is grayed out. Ideas?

in addition to Ben's recommendation: The easiest way - in my opinion - to protect the recommended website(s) with a password is to ask your provider for this possibility. I can show you here the menu of my German host (Passwortschutz > Password protection):

As you can see I didn't struggle to write the ".htaccess" file of myself, and here I quote Nancy O's hints:
a secure create sign-up page. When form is submitted, MySQL database is appended with new log-in credentials.
a MySQL database to store unique ID, username, password with a date and timestamp to measure how old each password is.
another secure log-in page to verify valid username, password and date and timestamp. If it's accepted, a session is created and redirects user to confidential areas of the site.
a log-out page to kill the session.
an error page for when username & password are not found in database.
a secure new password page for when date & timestamp are too old.
For all these things I use the provider's (ISP) service. The advantage is, that the two files (.htaccess and .htpasswd) are created simultaneously and systemconform. You will find this offer, I am sure, at your provider's website.
Dreamweaver has so too a very easy server-side authentication behaviors built-in... have you looked at those? (Server Behaviors --> Authenticate Users)

I've got this same problem. For me it's because I haven't got a swap partition (even though I thought I set this machine up with one...). Perhaps you also don't have a swap partition, or maybe it's not mounted? Anyway, I would start with the Swap page of the wiki.

One site, two separate directories/roots?

I tried posting this via the newsgroup yesterday, but it
never showed up on this forum (I know why now after reading a
little closer). I've been thrown into the role of my department's
site/server admin at the last freakin' minute, and I'm hoping you
guys can help me out with a particular situation.
Here's the short version:
Is there a way for me to set up Dreamweaver to manage one
site over two completely separate folders (or perhaps set up as
separate 'sites'), and have it update links automatically between
both sites/folders as files are moved/changed just as it would with
one site? Virtual directories or similar server side items are not
an option.
Here the long version:
We have an in-house server that we've used for several years
to host both our website and shared directories for various files
used by our techs and managers. The web server is a mess because
over the years we've had several versions of our website built on
top of each other... an ugly mess which I have the pleasure of
cleaning up (oh joy!). We use IIS on the server (Win2K) to host the
site, and we have a virtual directory set up. We did this in order
to allow certain files to be viewable on our website, but actually
hosted outside of the site's root structure... so our managers
could update those files without us having to give them access to
make changes within the site's main file structure.
At the same time they hand me these new duties, I'm told that
our server is going bye-bye (lease is up) and instead of re-upping
the bosses want the site moved to the company's shared hosting. So
I have to have our site and share folders moved ASAP. This is
actually a very smart move, but it creates a bit of a dilemma for
me. We are only being allowed 100MB for our site, and we have a TON
of job-aids that far exceed the space that we're being given. We
are also using shared drive space (separate server) to host the
rest of our center's files, so I can move the bulk of those files
to the shared drivespace and create new links to them from our
site. Those that need to see/edit those items will have
permissions, the rest are out of luck, as it should be.
What makes this tedious is having to comb through and edit
each page to repair links to the content being moved to the non-web
space, not just during this cleanup but as future changes are made.
If there is a way that I could get Dreamweaver to recognize a
second 'root' so that as it would update links as I moved things
around and cleaned things up, that would be a HUGE help.
Any ideas?

Users with read access to the site unable to view Managed Metadata Navigation

Hi everyone,
I created a Managed Metadata service and created group, term-set and terms
I gave read access to users
I set up navigation to use Managed Navigation
I am logged in as farm admin and able to view the navigation when i browse site. But user are not seeing navigation.
One thing i noticed is when i give users full access or designer access to site they will be able to see the navigation. but i don't want to give users full access or designer access to the site.
How can users with read only access to site can view Managed Metadata Navigation...Please help?

Have you given your users permissions to actually read the MMS data from the service application?

Search is not working for only one site collection

The FAFSA website only recognizes Firefox 4.0 or earlier versions. How can I get a compatible Firefox version so I can access the FAFSA site properly?

Is there a way to use or restore an earlier version of firefox so I can complete the FAFSA form that is mandatory for me to complete?

The fafsa.gov site does not currently support Firefox newer versions. That is their choice.
