DHCP and failover issues

Hello,
I am trying to implement failover in our dhcp but I don't get it right....
I have 2 SLES/OES servers both can be used as DHCP server without failover (one active, the other not).
server 1 => SLES11SP1 with OES11 (dhcp version is 3.1.3 ESV)
server 2 => SLES11SP2 with OES11SP1 (dhcp version is 4.2.4-P2)
I have defined my failover dhcp services following TID 7004294, so I have defined to services (ip_serv1 and ip_serv2), each failover service does contain:
a) failover object ( FO2SERV2, FO2SERV1), where
Primary server is 10.7.0.248 10.7.0.248
Primary port is 647 847
Secondary server is 10.7.0.250 10.7.0.250
Secondary port is 847 647
Failover split is 128 128
Max. Client Lead Time 3600 3600
b) subnet 10.11.0.0 10.11.0.0 where these subnets have following pool
c) pool pool_10_11 pool_10_11 and these have the following failover attached to
FO2SERV2 FO2SERV1
I think that these parameter follow precisly the TID 7004294, but when I start the dhcpd services on the primary server I get the following messages:
I move from recover to startup
I move from startup to recover
DHCPDISCOVER from 00:23:24:07:84:53 (REFERENCE) via XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX: not responding (recovering)
and indeed I do not get any lease.
What am I doing wrong????
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

That did the trick.
Thanks!
PS. it is a shame that some TID's are so wrong as this one (TID7004294).

  • DHCP and FTP issues.

I have a server setup running server 2012 R2 with DHCP and filezilla for FTP, and a desktop running windows 7. The server can ping the desktop, but
the desktop can not ping the server, however the desktop can get a DHCP address from the server. How can I get it to connect to the ftp service? I choose to use filezilla because I could not get the anonymous logon to work for IIS.

    Hi,
Have you checked windows firewall on the server side if allows ICMP, by default firewall is on and blocking ICMP.
    http://www.sysprobs.com/how-to-enable-ping-on-windows-server-2012-r2-firewall
Also see if port 21 for FTP (assuming filezzila using default port) is allowed in firewall.
    Hope this helps.

  • 7940 Config and flash issues

Hi, i'm hoping somebody can please help me.
I have been using VOIP via a softphone for a couple of years now, I decided that I wanted to have a go at setting up a Cisco phone. So I have got a 7940G second hand which works fine. I am a home user trying to learn so I am using a BT Homehub with dynamic IP and SIP on voip-talk.org
The phone was still configured form the previous owner with subnet, DNS, FTP, VLAN etc. I couldn't find a how to edit these settings, so I thought if I set it back to factory defaults, told it to delete network cfg. I thought on restarting it might ask me to input the detail? but it showing "configuring VLAN" and then constantly stays on "configuring IP"
although it stills picks up an IP via DHCP and I can ping it ok, I can also browse on to the web interface which show the following info

    Hi
I think the main issue you have with this phone is that its not picking up a TFTP server IP address and therefore cannot download any configuration details.
As a start i'd check that the IP address range that it has got via DHCP has an option 150 setup to your CUCM TFTP server.
Once its got this, if you have auto registration setup if should at least boot up
    Hope this helps

  • WRT160N wont' recognize modem and other issues

To prevent a wall of text from being even taller, here are the three topographies presented in some crude visuals:
    Default, Option "A"
    Better, Option "B"
    Optimal, Option "C"
On second thought those images are pretty tall. That totally backfired. Enjoy the art.
Option A is the default as the installation disk would have me do. I will not work. All connection indicator lights are green (or blue in the 160N's case) for the internet connection's path. The 160N will not recognize the modem and the DHCP will not work. Yes, I went into the 192.168.1.1 control panel stuff. It's set to have the internet picked up by DHCP, and under the info tab I kept trying the drop ip and renew ip buttons. Always at 0.0.0.0. During the autosetup installation, it told me it could not detect my internet and all the connection lights showed a working connection. Using the EasyLink GUI, it could not autoresolve the issue or recognize my Westell 2110 modem it was trying to talk to. I reset the power (waiting 15 seconds before plugging it back in) on each device in every order and combination possible. I've tried different cables. Nothing works. It just won't talk with my Westell 2110.
Option B I would prefer over A as I could set up better protection from the internet. It would also solve the problem of my router and modem hating each other. It will not work. My computer refuses to find which connection is the internet when I have more than one active. The windows network wizard utility does not resolve this (yes, I set it to "this computer is a gateway" and selected the modem connection as the internet and the 160N as the connection to the rest of the LAN. Still doesn't work right). I can't seem to find anything for a setting to designate a connection as THE internet connection for Windows XP, and activating connections in different orders or reorganizing them on the CP list does nothing. It sill tries to use the 160N which has no net connection or there's some kind of address conflict when I'm 95% certain both of them are set to different addresses, as I trust what the CP connection status panel says. I've never had this problem at wired LANs. It's never happend with Adhoc either.
Option C is the optimal setup. It will not work. My Xbox 360 suffered severe hardware failure when I booted it up before even connecting anything. It was working perfectly just an hour before. I'm kind of ticked off at the universe right now. Ignoring that setback, I bought the 160N on a gamble. Either it was the V1, DD-WRT supported, or V2, DD-WRT WIP. It's a V2 which means I'll have to wait. I know that the DD-WRT frimware supports using a wireless router essentially as a wireless dongle that's cheaper than the official Xbox 360 dongle and was told it could simultaniously serve as a range extending router for the rest of my home network too. Two birds in one stone, saving me about 80$. Is it possible with the official 160N firmware to do this? Would I suffer any severe network preformance issues streaming the net across an extra dongle as compared to the default topography that goes directly to/from the 160N? All wireless adaptors in my network are 802.11N compatible.
I am uncertain on the SSID settings. I shut SSID broadcast off in the 160N control panel, but I can still pick it up on my wireless adaptors. I was told I could just shutoff the broadcast, and then someone would have to know the network was there and know the SSID to find it rather than it automatically pop up in the availible networks list. It still comes up automatically, just without a name. How do I make it "invisible"? Or was my friend who told me this just messing with me?
All my attempts to resolve issues were done at first on the revision 11 firmware, and then on the revision 8. Neither work. I have already read I should use OpenDNS with revision 8. Should I just return this router and pick up a classic WRT54G off craigslist for like 30$?
Thanks to anyone who can help.

First of all who is your ISP ( Cable or DSL ).If you are trying to configure your router using the Setup disk, its better you configure it manually.

Not really sure of your question. The XML components are useful
in any application where I am processing documents or data with
an XML structure. The choice to use XML can be based on quite a
range of requirements due to its declarative syntax and open

  • Failover clusterign... How similar do the primary and failover instance need to be in a failover cluster?

How similar do the primary and failover instance need to be in a failover cluster?
Does the number of database have to match, naming, general config etc...
    Mr Shaw

In failover clustering, you use shared storage so the number of databases is irrelevant since only one node can see/access the shared storage at any given point in time. Ideally, the server configuration should be the same on all of the nodes to minimize
potential issues that may impact downtime. However, you need to consider licensing/# of CPU-cores and implementation cost, especially if you are only using the other nodes as standby. As far as licensing is concerned, the standby has to have the same or fewer
number of CPU-cores as the primary node to be covered by licensing. Besides, you don't want your standby node to be more powerful than your primary node. This is why the option to have a hybrid deployment of having a physical server as the primary node and
virtual machine for standby nodes is now supported.

  • Weblogic Migrateable Server JSM client failover issue

I am experiencing a failover issue with JMS client (i am using wlfullclient.jar)
I've setup a migratable JMS Server (My cluster contains 2 servers: ManagedServer1 and ManagedServer2) and created a module with Sub Deployment to this server. On the module i created Queue and Topic.

  • Bootpd, DHCP and OS X Server 2.2

I have a Mac Mini running OS X Server in Mountain Lion that I use for imaging via DeployStudio. A couple of days ago, I tried to boot a MacbookPro using Netboot by going to Start-up Disks, and selecting the Netboot image. When the machine restarted, it just sat at the grey screen for about a minute, then it started flashing the globe icon, as it was trying to find the Mini. After about a minute of that, it would give up and then boot back to the OS. I tried this with a NetInstall image, another NetBoot image, another machine, and so on. All of them had the same behavior.
After going through some logs and looking at the documentation, it turned out that the machines really couldn't find the Mini to boot from. Basically, if the DHCP service wasn't turned on, and configured for the same subnet that the Mini was on, then nothing could find the Mini to boot from it. This was bad, really bad, as l work for a large achadimc instatution where they run their own DHCP services for all of the subnets.
The issue turnes out to be that as of 2.2 of OS X Xerver, that the bootpd service doesn't launch by itself anymore. The DHCP service must be running for bootpd to launch. Netboot needs bootpd for the clients to find the host. The solution that I came up with was to modify the /etc/bootpd.plist file.
There are, as of when I am writting this, two versions of Netboot. Netboot 1, or old Netboot, allows the bootpd service to run without DHCP, and Netboot 2 that requires DHCP to be on for bootdp to launch. I went into the /etc/bootpd.plist file and added the following lines to the bottom, just before the closing </dict> tag:
    <key>old_netboot_enabled</key>
    <array>
    <string>en0</string>
    </array>
This turns on the old netboot so bootpd could run on its own. You'll have to restart the machine running OS X Server for the change to take affect.
There a couple of downsides to this method. One is if you turn on Internet Sharing in the Sharing system pane, or if you happen to turn on or change the DHCP settings in any way, your changes will be wipped out.
I hope this helps somebody out that that had the same issues that I had.
    Micah

    Hi Micah,
I have try your solution but it doesn't work.
First Excuse me for my english writing 'cause I'm french...
So the problem is complex, here is my Situation :
Netboot Server : A brand new mac mini server with 10.8.2 server (late 2012, macmini 6,2), 2 terabyte hard drives of each and DeployStudioServer 1.5.16
The services Netinstall, OpenDirectory (master mode) and AFP file sharing are all ok !
I have an external DHCP (linux) server. The DHCP server is on a vlan and the netboot server and netboot clients are on another clan, so I have
add ip address of my netboot server as a ip-helper address in the cisco router configuration of the dhcp server vlan.
And HERE IS MY PROBLEM :
I have used three kinds of netboot's client :
    1. a macbook pro 17" (macbookpro 5,2, 17" early 2009) with mac os 10.6.8
    2. a macbook pro 13" (macbookPro 9,2 13" mid 2012) with mac os 10.8.2
    3. a Mac mini late 2012 ( macmini 6,1) with mac os 10.8.2
I have generate 2 DeployStudio Netboot sets, one for the macbook pro 13 " (10.8.2) and one for the mac mini late 2012 (10.8.2)
SO, It works without problem when I netboot with macbook pro 17" which use for example the netboot set of macboo pro 13" but the other machines don't net boot ! Why ???
In the netinstall logs and when I netboot with macbook pro 17 under 10.6.8, I saw the lines :
    b 18 08:43:23 [my-netboot-server] bootpd[2825]: BSDP DISCOVER [en0] 1,0:26:4a:c:d1:8 NetBoot002 arch=i386 sysid=MacBookPro5,2

but when I netboot with macbook pro 13" under 10.8.2, I see only the lines (for example ) :
    Feb 18 09:01:07  [my-netboot-server]  bootpd[2968]: service time 0.000015 seconds
    Feb 18 09:01:40  [my-netboot-server]  bootpd[2968]: service time 0.000015 seconds
    Feb 18 09:01:40  [my-netboot-server]  bootpd[2968]: service time 0.000004 seconds
    Feb 18 09:01:52  [my-netboot-server]  bootpd[2968]: service time 0.000015 seconds
    Feb 18 09:01:52  [my-netboot-server]  bootpd[2968]: service time 0.000010 seconds
    Feb 18 09:02:08  [my-netboot-server]  bootpd[2968]: service time 0.000015 seconds
PLEASE HELP ME, I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT WORKS WITH A "10.6.8" OLD CLIENT AND NOT WITH MY NEW MACS UNDER MOUNTAIN LION ?
    HAVE YOU ANY IDEA ?
THANKS IN ADVANCE TO ALL FOR YOUR HELP
    BEST REGARDS

  • Dhcp and nis

I have Solaris 10 installed on an x-86 box with 2 nics installed.
I am trying to configure one nic to use dhcp and access the internet as well as on the 2nd nic have an nis network that has a static ip range that will be a master to 3 other clients. Is this possible? I've been able to configure the primary nic with dhcp to go out to the net, but wasn't very successful with NIS on nic 2. Seeking advice on this.

6 Data rates would slow randomly.
These problems would occur separately and in combinations. They would occur randomly but some issues would occur daily.
Left alone the router would 100% lock up in a matter of days. This occurred 100% of the time.
Rebooting was a daily and sometimes hourly ritual.
After reading in many forums of the known issues with this router I purchased a BEFSR41 as replacement.
ALL of my problem were gone. This of course isolated the issues I was having to the WRT55AG.
I then hooked up the WRT55AG _after_ the BEFSR41.
The problems with the WRT55AG disappeared. Completely. It suddenly worked for weeks perfectly.
I then tried setting the BEFSR41's DMZ to the IP of the WRT55AG exposing the WRT55AG to the net directly.
    The issues returned.
So the WRT55AG is crashing and suffering from various problems because of some hostile internet packets. Effectively it suffers major security issues and a denial of service from something that is present from the internet. I did not isolate what ports+packets were causing the DOS condition.
Im sure the WRT55AG has some code that is vulnerable to attack because it crashes when exposed to the net. This is a serious issue.
This is a sad state of affairs. I paid good money for the router. Its too late to get my money back. I would settle for a 802.11A WAP.
I want a *FIX* for the obvious security hole that could expose anyone on the LAN side of the wrt55AG router to attack if the router/firewall is compromised. I want my WRT55AG to work as intended or at least as well as the BEFSR41 I own.
I also feel if the source code was still open, then these problems would not exist. At the very least, some other 3rd party version of firmware would be available that would work in the router and any issue would get prompt attention and a quick solution from a open source team. The decision by Linksys to move away from open source firmware will erode the quality of the brand by making products less reliable.
WHEN will a new version of the firmware be available for the WRT55AG ?
If not how do I go about returning a well documented defectively engineered product for a product that works ?

I would like to see a update to fix the various issues with this router. When will this be available ?
    -OR-
If this product is considered End Of Life, I would like to get confirmation that no future firmware update will occur.
As this product was defective out of the box and has never been fixed, I would like a replacement product please. My serial number is # MDJ106802225

  • DHCP and NAP Event 1070

Server 2012 DC1, role: AD, DNS, DHCP and NAP. Another Server 2012 DC2 as secondary with same roles, and as hot stand by for DHCP.
When NAP is enabled on all scope, event 1070 "Iashlpr initialization failed: The DHCP service was unable to access path specified for the audit log. , so DHCP server cannot talk to NPS server. It could be that IAS service is not started." comes
up. When this error shows up, doing Replicate Failover Scopes from the MMC will crash it. Running Invoke-DhcpServerv4FailoverReplication will generate "The remote procedure call failed" error.
NPS NAP DHCP Policy exists, with generic Full Access and no restriction. Both DC's are in "RAS and IAS Servers" group. The audit path exists and can be accessed. Disabling NPS on all scopes seem to return to normal.
This seems to be a bug or something amissed. How can I get enable NAP on all scope without DHCP server throwing an error?

    Hi,
Have you installed any secruity software on the server?
If yes, please disable it and try again.
Also, what's the result of "sfc /scannow"?
Besides, what's the start type of the NPS service?
To set the NPS service to start automatically and start the NPS service, please follow the steps below,
At the NPS server click Start, click Run, type
    services.msc, and then click OK.
    Double-click Network Policy Server.
On the General tab, in the Startup type
box, click Automatic, and then click Apply.
Click Start, wait for the progress bar to complete, and then click
    OK.
On the File menu, click Exit.
    Best Regards.

No errors on scan, it did not find integrity violations. Service is already on auto and started.
I thought maybe the firewall is blocking it, but this is the same machine that runs AD/DHCP/NPS role.
Where this audit log for NPS that the DHCP is looking for?

  • Mysterious NFS and systemd issue

I don't know what to do with this problem
I have a cluster that runs arch linux. 20 compute nodes, a fast login node, and a head node that runs scientific linux 6.2 and has two large RAID drives attached (it also provides DNS, DHCP, and torque servers). The cluster is connected by a DDR infiniband network, including a direct infiniband connection between the login node and the head node. That infiniband has IPoIB set up, and an NFSv3 filesystem running over that. For years it just worked, with read/write speeds over 600MB/s, but in the last week or two it has started having lots of trouble. It is just really slow, sometimes the whole login node is slow for no good reason, but mostly that fast network drive is crushingly slow, with no heavy traffic. The problem is the same regardless of which network device I use, ethernet or infiniband. Plus, the login node itself has frozen and crashed several times in the last week. Major stability issues are just appearing out of nowhere.
Here is the best part though: I can see *nothing* useful in journalctl, or in any old-fashioned syslogs, on any of the nodes. Nothing. The only thing I see that is out of place is the following message repeating about once every three minutes:
    Nov 17 08:09:47 fraser-server systemd[6962]: Starting Exit the Session...
    Nov 17 08:09:47 fraser-server systemd[6962]: Reached target Shutdown.
    Nov 17 08:09:47 fraser-server systemd[6962]: Starting Shutdown.

    Nov 17 08:09:47 fraser-server systemd[6962]: Stopping Sockets.
    Nov 17 08:09:47 fraser-server systemd[6962]: Stopped target Timers.
    Nov 17 08:09:47 fraser-server systemd[6962]: Stopping Timers.

    Nov 17 08:09:47 fraser-server systemd[6962]: Stopping Paths.
    Nov 17 08:09:47 fraser-server systemd[6962]: Stopped target Basic System.
    Nov 17 08:09:46 fraser-server systemd[6962]: Stopping Basic System.
    Nov 17 08:09:46 fraser-server systemd[6962]: Stopped target Default.
I get the distinct impression that that is completely unrelated though.
The output of nfsstat -v for both servers are here:
    https://gist.github.com/MikeDacre/2d1b3e9c4bd17c96c97f
I am pretty sure this isn't the right place to post this problem, probably I should be emailing an infiniband or nfs forum, but with the complete lack of log information or any sign of hardware trouble, I really don't even know where to begin.
Anyone have any idea on where else I should be looking? Any good debug options I should try?

    Hi,
    I'm answering to myself.
    Akonadi was the problem.
Even if I have disabled the search features in KDE configuration, if in console I type the following command:
    akonadictl status
    It shows me:
    Akonadi Control: started
    Akonadi Server: started
Akonadi Server Search Support: not available
I've edited .config/akonadi/akonadiserverrc file and set StartServer to false
I've also disabled the launch of Korganizer (as it uses Akonadi).
After a reboot, Akonadi is not launching anymore and I could shutdown correctly my computer.

  • TS1398 ipad setup - can't join my wifi, entered wrong password and now wants DHCP and other info

just got an iPad and set it up, synched with my computer. Then I turned on WiFi (to connect to my home FiOS router) and when it asked for password I entered the wrong one. So, I tried again and now, instead of prompting me for password, it's asking for DHCP and lots of other detailed info that I don't know.I tried turning wifi off and then back on ... same result when I tried to join (the DHCP et. al. prompts). I tried turning the iPad off and back on ... same result.
What to do??? I'm so anxious to try out my new iPad
(P.S. I have an iPhone and have no problem accessing WiFi. This issue with the iPad was obviously triggered by my entering the wrong password)

Go to Settings>WiFi>Your Network Name - tap on the blue arrow to the right of the name and then tap - Forget this Network in the next window at the top.
Restart your iPad for good measure and then go back to Settings>WiFi>Your home network name and start over again.

  • My iPad suddenly stopped connecting to my home network. It shows the network to. Choose from but there is no IP address or other information on the network page. It is set on DHCP and proxy is set at auto. Do I have another setting wrong?

My iPad suddenly stopped working with my home network.  It shows the network to choose from but will not connect. When I look at details in that network it does not show IP address or any other info for the network.  Setting is on DHCP and http proxy is set on auto. Network is active and can connect on wife's iPad and other home computers.  Do I have another setting wrong?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • DHCP and LDAP at Login... possible?

    Hi..
All my users use network homes and are working fine via static IPs and manual LDAP settings. (So why fix it, right?)
I want to try moving my clients to DHCP to simplify setups. I enabled DHCP and configured the options for IPs as well as the LDAP settings. On the clients I set to DHCP in network settings, and Auto assign DHCP LDAP in Directory Access.
Problem is, when clients boot up, they dont seem to get their DHCP assignment until after a user logs in, which prevents them from reading the LDAP unless a local user logs in to register DHCP.
Is there a way to force the client to register DHCP at the login window, rather than after logging in a [local] user?
Or am I misdiagnosing the problem?

    Hi,
supplying LDAP information via DHCP works. The only issue is that it will take a while (up to 10 seconds or even longer) until a network user can login. So patience is the key!
Try this: in the loginwindow, click several times on the Bonjourname of you client. The displayed infomation (SN, ip address, etc) will change. There is a new info displayed about availability of network-accounts. It's bullet should be red right after loginwindow is launched, but turn green after a while if you use DHCP.
If it stays red, you have another issue, probably related to DHCP and the provided LDAP-info.
