DHCP Migration Issue - NW to OES11 SP1

I was able to migrate DHCP from NetWare 6.5 to OES 11 SP1. I can now see the new OES 11 SP1 DHCP server via the DNS/DHCP Java Console. However, I am unable to start/stop the DHCP server from the console. I can start/stop dhcp from the OES 11 SP1 server. But, the correct status is not visible via the Java Console.
I need to export/import dhcp config to configure option 43 for a WiFi configuration. Since Java Console sees DHCP as always down, I cannot export dhcp database to make corrections. Any ideas why Java Console does not see the status of DHCP or how to get this fixed? Thank you for any info.

  • Windows to Mac DHCP Migration Issues

    We are migrating our DHCP and DNS services from a Windows server to an XServe. We have started the process and noticed that Server Admin does not provide a place in the DHCP service to put in a range of IP addresses to be excluded from being handed out. It only lets you do it on a individual computer basis. The problem is that we have over a hundred devices on our network with static IPs right in the middle of the IP range set for DHCP. (I inherited this design) Eg:
    Complete DHCP Range: 192.168.180.1 - 192.168.181.254
    Static IP Ranges: 192.168.181.1 - 192.168.181.100, 192.168.181.200-229, 250-254 etc
    The DHCP service on our Windows DC has a place to put in multiple ranges that can be excluded from DHCP so it is easy to define the complete range of our network and exclude ranges used for static IPs. I just don't see how to do this in OS 10.6. If it is not there on purpose then what is the logic behind this?
    The other issue we are having with DHCP is that the DORA exchange for client computers is taking almost 2 minutes to complete. Is this normal for DHCP in OS 10.6? I can take the same client laptop, pull out the ethernet cable and plug it into the existing Windows network and get an IP address in 45 seconds. We did this test with multiple new computers and they all took the same amount of time. There are no errors in the DHCP log.
    Any perspective for either issue would be greatly appreciated.

    this may not be directly helpful, but i have two related questions.
    if you've inherited these ranges, is there anything particular preventing you from changing them to make your life easier?
    if you're swapping these services to os x server, why, and would this be a good opportunity to change the ranges?
    in any of my clients' networks 45 seconds to get an address would be atypically long. there must be something else going on to cause such delays.
    what's the impetus to move dhcp and dns away from windows servers, especially if the services are working well enough?
    i wouldn't necessarily recommend using os x server just for these services. any linux distro with dhcpd and bind will do just fine and probably be a better investment.

  • Migrating server hardware replacement oes11 to oes11sp2

    This summer I will be replacing server hardware at one of my schools. Currently it has sles11sp1 / oes11 -- put in in 2012. The patches are up to date for this version, but I have not upgraded/migrated it to a newer version yet. I have played in a test environment with the yast2 wagon migration from sles11sp1/oes11 to sles11sp2/oes11sp1 -- no problems. However trying to find notes on how to do a migration and identity transfer from source server hardware to new target server hardware. Found oes11sp2 migration tool administration guide. I haven't found anything telling me how to setup sles on the target server box ie server name etc. Once I have the target sles server setup, I realize I need to install OES and select the "Novell pre-migration server" option during this installation.
    Current source server = sles11sp1/oes11 and has iPrint, Nss and netstorage installed. Installed in tree with oes11 and oes11sp1 servers.
    The main tree server has sles11sp2/oes11sp1 on it. We will need to upgrade it to sles11sp3/oes11sp2 this summer. I'm fine with doing the yast2 wagon migration on that server. We just haven't done server hardware replacements for OES-L yet.
    Looking for some good (step by step) instructions. ;-)
    Thanks

Then install oes11sp2 into the tree in a temporary location in the tree as a premigration server (for the installation). Then I should be able to follow the instructions. When I do the identity transfer, I'm assuming it renames the sles11sp3 server from tempfs to testfs as well (as that is where oes gets the file server name from)?
    Um, sorta. Let's pretend your server name is: OLD and the new one is NEW (temporary NEW name and temporary NEW IP)
    OLD: OES11
    NEW: OES11 SP2 (assuming you want latest stuff).
    Do all your data transfer/consolidations/etc
    Then when you do the ID transfer, it will literally transfer the eDir databases (well copy is more correct) from OLD to NEW, you shut off OLD, I think it restarts NEW and renames/changes the servername and IP to what OLD had.
    You can choose to install the NEW server with the .ISO separately (ie: Install SLES11 SP3, then after you're done, Add On the OES11 SP2 .ISO), or you may choose to use the integrated DVD and do it all at once, or use the 2 separate ISO and do them at once (but depending upon your installation method, you may not be able to do the 2 separate ISO).
    I hope that helps.
    I'm about halfway through editing my docs for OES11 SP1 (of course, SP2 is out now) for migrations from OES2 SP3, but the same setup steps basically apply. I think the only things that changed from NW To OES (ie: OES2 to OES11) are DHCP and iPrint migration procedures.

  • OES11 SP1 and Groupwise 2012 upgrade

    Hi I'm am testing Groupwise 2012 with OES11 SP1 but can't seem to get the domain and Post office to start.
    OES11 worked pre SP1 but.once I updated the server Groupwise doesn't want to start. Any ideas.
    Cheers

    Hi thanks for your quick response. That is exactly my problem. When I delete the file GroupWise works. Looks like Novell are looking at fixing the issue.
    I will wait for the fix to be released.

  • OES11 SP1 Preperation - Problems

    I am pretty coherent with oes2 SP2, I have many installes under my belt, and have 38 installs/server all connected into a unified tree...I am now doing my testing to go to OES11 SP1...and I am hacing some problems. My install goes fine, and I have OES11 SP1 running like a charm, with all required services. The problem occurs when I go to update it to the newest patches. The documentation says to use this meathod, which a religiously follow:
    1. Make sure both OES11sp1 and SUSE11-SP2 are registered properly
    2. zypper sl
    3. zypper lr (make sure all update pools for oes11sp1 and suse2-sp2 are present)
    3. zyper ref -s
    4. zypper lu -r SLES11-SP2-Updates -r OES11-SP1-Updates
    5. zypper up -t patch -r SLES11-SP2-Updates -r OES11-SP1-Updates
    6. Repat Steps 4 and 5 until no patches exist
    My problem comes when doing this, sure enough, it always chokes in two weird places:
    - Zypper states that the iprint digest is NOT the correct or expected version
    - It also chokes on: novell-xtier-base-3.1.10-11.52.1 install package..when it does finish it states that none of the users can be found....
    (the xtier users)
    which is pretty messed up, I can produce this on with every install...I get the SAME result everytime...
    Any ideas...suggestions..This update meathoed is from the OES11sp1 installation guide....of this year (May 3, 2013)

    I had the same digest error on a Firefox update about the same time as
    your post only I was applying patches using YaST Online update.
    A couple of days later, I followed the same procedure you did and all
    updates were applied without any errors. I suspect there are some
    issues in the back end.
    Can you try again and let us know if it is still happening?

  • Internet DHCP/DNS issues with WRT1900ac

    I've had a WRT1900ac now for about 2 weeks and the problems seem to be escalating.  Need help.  And yes, I've already read dozens of threads about these issues and nothing seems to be working.
    Most of the problems seem to be centered around this DHCP/DNS issue that so many have been reporting.
    First, the symptoms:
    Galaxy S4 phones when connected via wifi have some apps that don't update (facebook and google play)
    Some computers (both Win 7) will connect to the network just fine, both wired and wireless - but won't be able to get to the internet
    I've spent the last 2-3 days of my life reading forums and trying all sorts of things to get this to work properly (like my old router) and I'm still stuck.  Some things I've tried:
    Firmware is up-to-date (latest version: 1.1.8.164461)
    Manually assigned static DNS in router config settings (connectivity -> local network) to various combinations including the router address, 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4, 75.75.75.75, 75.75.76.76 (I have comcast), OpenDNS addresses, etc.  I read that the router address is not needed, so I stopped including it.
    I manually assigned IPs and DNS on the Galaxy S4 phones and that seemed to work... but also seems unnecessary.
    I've reserved DHCP addresses on the computers in question, that didn't seem to work, I also manually set DNS on one of the comupters (can't on the other... long story/not my computer) and that worked for a while and then stopped working.
    The only way to get one of the computers on the internet now is to turn on the guest network (even though the computer is hard wired to the router), connect, and then the wired network works.  No clue why this is, but my guess is that it needs the guest network for DNS, then it fails back over to the wired network.  Once that happens, I can actually turn off the wifi on the computer and everything works great... until I reboot.  Key point: I can't change any settings on that box other than entering in SSID/passphrase info for the wireless connection.  I can connect to the regular (non-Guest) wifi just fine - I just can't ever get to the internet.
    I've tried massaging DHCP settings on the router until I'm blue in the face - Static DNS, reserving DHCP addresses, hell I even put one of the computers in the DMZ to see if that would work and it still can't connect to the internet (it's worth noting that with my old router, Linksys WRT310N, the setup was literally plug-and-play - no hassle with any of this).
    I've tried countless router reboots, factory resets, turning off my modem and router for 2+ minutes, and nothing is working.
    I even read somewhere that if you modify your DHCP settings at all that the WRT1900ac stops doing DNS properly and breaks, so I even tried several "hard" factory resets and used all the default DHCP/DNS settings.  And it worked... for a few hours.
    Seriously, I'm at my wit's end.  I'm out a lot of money on this thing and it's been one headache after another.  Please help.

    I think for most people its a bad idea to hold out that hope, lol. It seems like a great piece of hardware but if you really need a router and don't want to have to 'play' with it, its probably not a good choice. I have an EA6900 that I am very happy with but it has the same restrictions as far as DNS and I really hate the idea that I am forced to use the smartwifi portal. I would really like for them to give me a choice of the old gui or the new one and let ME decide. Lots of routers to choose from out there now and new ones seem to be coming out all the time so do some reading and see if something suits you better. Good luck!

  • Exchange 2007 to 2013 Migration issues. Prompt for credentials, Public Folders inaccessible, Apps not working

    Exchange 2013 Migration issues
    I have three issues and decided to list them here. Please pick and choose to assist. Thanks in advance.
    Environment:
    Mixed 2007 SP3 R12 and 2013 CU3. 2007 Environment was webmail.domain.com. I installed new Exchange 2013 (1 CAS, 1 Mailbox) according to:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff805032(v=exchg.150).aspx. Exchange 2007 is now legacy.domain.com and Exchange 2013 CAS is webmail.domain.com.
    Machine 1: Windows 8.1, not domain joined, using Outlook Anywhere external. Outlook 2013
    Machine 2: Windows 7, domain joined, using Outlook Anywhere internal. Outlook 2010 SP2
    I have migrated 1 user so far to Exchange 2013. This user was a Domain Admin. I have removed that membership. I checked the box to inherit permissions of the security of the object and reset the AdminCount attribute in ADSIedit to 0 and verified this replicated
    to all domain controllers. ( I originally thought this to be the issue with it prompting for the password. )

    ISSUE 1
    Issue: On Machine 1 (reference above) Windows Security prompt that says "Connecting to
    [email protected]". Almost always prompts when Outlook is first opened. Afterwards (if it goes away) seemingly random on when it asks for it. I put in the credentials (absolutely correct) and it fails and prompts again.
    I always check the box for it to save the password. To get rid of it, I click the Cancel button at which Outlook reports "NEED PASSWORD", but still acts fine sending and receiving emails. Eventually the "NEED PASSWORD" sometimes changes
    to say "CONNECTED", but it works regardless.
    No issues on Machine 2 so I don't know where the problem might be as there are a lot of variables in play here.
    ISSUE 2
    Migrated user is unable to open Public folders from Exchange 2007.
    Cannot expan the folder. Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either there are network problems or the Exchange server is down for maintenance. (/o=...).
    This error occurs on Machine 1, Machine 2 and from OWA, same error each time.
    ISSUE 3
    Apps. Installed by default are 4 apps (Bing Maps, Suggested Meetings, Unsubscribe, Action Items). I have made sure the apps are enabled in OWA and they show up in mail items on both Machine 1 (Outlook 2013) and OWA. They do not show up in Machine 2 (Outlook
    2010). I'm assuming that isn't supported.
    In OWA, when I go to the installed apps listing it shows all of the apps but has a broken link on the image describing the app.
    When I click the app in either Outlook 2013 or in OWA, I get "APP ERROR, Sorry we can't load the app. Please make sure you have network and/or internet connectivity. Click "Retry" once you're back online.
    Current workaround is just disabling them through OWA.

    Hello,
    In order to avoid confusion, we troubleshoot a issue per thread usually.
    For your first isue, I agree with Ed's suggestion to check if your certificate name is correct.
    Besides, I recommend you change ExternalClientAuthenticationMethod from Basic authentication to Negotiate authentication to check the result.

  • IPhoto 11 Migration Issue: Unique Circumstance (Boot Drive Crash)

    Hello good folk,
    I have a migration issue with iPhoto 11 due to a boot drive crash.
    The issue: I have imported my library database file and all of my 25,000 photos into a clean install of iPhoto 11. All of the events are imported, but all of the photos appear in the very first event. All of the other events are populated with the correct number of photos, but none of the actual photos have been linked.
    I know all about holding down option-click and option-command-click to rebuild libraries, directories, etc., as I have read about in multiple posts. But many tries haven't gotten me to success.
    Any suggestions? What am I doing wrong?
    Here are the specifics of the chain of events, in case it helps [sorry for all the details, but it might help]:
    1. Was running iPhoto 09 in 10.5.8, my boot drive bit the dust.
    2. I was able to save most of my data from the drive. Due to corrupt files, I was forced to back up unconventionally: instead of saving the entire library, which I could not do, I unpacked the iPhoto library and, from the Originals folder, I copied over entire year folders (2002, 2003, etc.) onto a non-boot drive. This worked.
    3. I then installed the new boot HD and installed 10.6.X.
    4. I installed fresh copy of iPhoto 11 and updated the software.
    5. In iPhoto 11, I threw away the database and replaced with the recovered database from the old boot drive.
    6. I copied all of the year photo folders (from the "Originals" folder on the manual backup disk) wholesale into the "Masters" folder of the new iPhoto 11 install.
    7. [I could not use Migration Assistant to do this because Migration Assistant, for some reason, will not migrate from a non-boot drive that's installed internally on my Mac Pro.]
    8. I option-command-clicked open iPhoto and selected:
    -- Repair iPhoto Library Database
    -- Rebuild small thumbnails
    -- Rebuild all thumbnails
    -- Examine/repair permissions.
    9. I did this twice. The first time, the events from the database installed correctly, but the photos did not show up. The second time, after a very long time rebuilding the thumbnails, all 25,000 photos showed up, but in the very first event. All of the other events remain blank.
    10. I then did an option-click, and chose to open the main library. I did that, but nothing changed.
    11. Perhaps interestingly, when I option-click, it says that my manual backup from my internal drive -- where I did my emergency backup -- remains as the "default." The main iPhoto library is not the default.
    12. That's where I am now. I really don't want to have to install manually without the data, when all of the events imported fine, and all of the photos are there, but in the wrong event.
    Sorry for the long-windedness. Any suggestions are much appreciated!
    John

    I have imported my library database file and all of my 25,000 photos into a clean install of iPhoto 11. All of the events are imported, but all of the photos appear in the very first event. All of the other events are populated with the correct number of photos, but none of the actual photos have been linked.
    You can not "Import" an old iPhoto library into another iPhoto library - it is not the way it works - if your old iPhoto library is available you simply place it in the pictures folder and launch iPhoto - no importing involved
    you can not piece together an iPhoto library - which is why having a backup up is critical to avoid lost data
    If your iPhoto library is not available as a single entity then you will have to start over and create a new library and import the photos into it losing all edits, metadata changes, etc
    And if the future remember to always backup soon and often -it is the only way to avoid data loss due to failures - hardware, software and/or human

    Does anyone know what this means? And please "dumb it down"
    for this newbie. :)
    Following is the actionscript I'm using:
    this.onEnterFrame = function() {
    var today:Date = new Date();
    var currentYear = today.getFullYear();
    var currentTime = today.getTime();
    var targetDate:Date = new Date(2007,5,10);
    var targetTime = targetDate.getTime();
    var timeLeft = targetTime - currentTime;
    var sec = Math.floor(timeLeft/1000);
    var min = Math.floor(sec/60);
    var hrs = Math.floor(min/60);
    var days = Math.floor(hrs/24);
    sec = String(sec % 60);
    if (sec.length < 2) {
    sec = "0" + sec;
    min = String(min % 60);
    if (min.length < 2) {
    min = "0" + min;
    hrs = String(hrs % 24);
    if (hrs.length < 2) {
    hrs = "0" + hrs;
    days = String(days);
    var counter:String = days + ":" + hrs + ":" + min + ":" +
    sec;
    time_txt.text = counter;
    Thanks in advance!!!

    It just means that you can't do things the "old" way. You
    have to use the
    AS3 event model, like so:
    this.addEventListener("enterFrame", enterFrameHandler);
    function enterFrameHandler(evt:Event) {
    var today:Date = new Date();
    var currentYear = today.getFullYear();
    var currentTime = today.getTime();
    var targetDate:Date = new Date(2007,5,10);
    var targetTime = targetDate.getTime();
    var timeLeft = targetTime - currentTime;
    var sec = Math.floor(timeLeft/1000);
    var min = Math.floor(sec/60);
    var hrs = Math.floor(min/60);
    var days = Math.floor(hrs/24);
    sec = String(sec % 60);
    if (sec.length < 2) {
    sec = "0" + sec;
    min = String(min % 60);
    if (min.length < 2) {
    min = "0" + min;
    hrs = String(hrs % 24);
    if (hrs.length < 2) {
    hrs = "0" + hrs;
    days = String(days);
    var counter:String = days + ":" + hrs + ":" + min + ":" +
    sec;
    time_txt.text = counter;

  • Strange directory behaviour on NSS volume OES11 SP1

    Hi All,
    A couple of months ago we installed an OES11 SP1 server with an NSS volume (VOL1:) for all our installation files.
    In the root of the VOL1: volume, we created a directory named _Install (yes, underscore)
    In this directory we created a lot of subdirectories with installation files for several applications, to keep things short, let's say DIR-A, DIR-B, DIR-C DIR-D DIR-E etc.
    So if we opened VOL1:, we just saw the _Install direcory in the root of VOL1:, and if we opened the _Install directory, we saw the DIR-A, DIR-B etc.
    But today, we opened the VOL1:, saw, the _Install directory, but also the DIR-A, DIR-B, DIR-C etc. in the folowing manner:
    _Install (normal)
    _Install\DIR-A
    _Install\DIR-B
    _Install\DIR-C
    etc.
    If we doubleclick on one of the directories in the root of VOL1:, we actually open the directory below the _Install directory. It's just like we have a kind of symbolic links, or shortcut's to the real directories in our root.
    Never seen this before.
    Anybody a clue for this?
    regards,
    Mark

    Having seen your other replies, you're opening VOL1: in Windows Explorer?
    What do you see if you do a DIR from a Command Prompt window?
    HTH.

  • Macbook migrating issues

    Migrating issues! please help.  At the moment I have two identities and my apps adobe and microsoft office 2008 do not work. I migrated from a macbook to a pro and everything seems crazy. I'm not an It guru so some of the solutions proposed at other forums do not work for me. I would like to go back to the original setup of the macbook pro and use the  setup assitant to transfer my files from the old mac. Hopefully this would prevent some of the issues i'm currently facing. what do you reckon?

    See the Pondoni article - particularly about a 'second chance' to use Setup. ANd don't do it wirelessly this time - either have both computers hardwired to the same router using Ethernet cabling or use the FireWire mode as discussed here - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4889.

  • NCS on OES11 SP1 needs eDir 8.8.7 or later. With a replica?

    We have 3 replicas running, one NW 6.5SP8 and two OES2SP3 (eDir 8.8 SP6). These 3 servers are 32bit.
    I'm about to test NCS in the lab (we've not used it before) and see on page 50 (4.6.3) of "clus_admin_lx.pdf" that eDir 8.8.7 is required for managing cluster objects.
    Is it okay if we keep our existing replicas and not yet add a replica to our OES11SP1 servers?
    I interpret that requirement as saying that we need to manage cluster objects using iManager on one of our OES11 SP1 servers which run eDir 8.8.7. No replica required, correct?
    Thanks,
    Marc

    That would be for the specific version of NCS you are using that would
    also have a say in which version of OES it runs on that should have that
    version of eDir running on it.

    Well since your new OES11sp1 servers will be the only ones with the
    newer eDir on them (unless you are upgrading eDir on the older boxes) it
    would be a good thing to have a replica on at least one of these eDir
    8.8.7 boxes in case there happen to be any 8.8.7 specific objects or
    attributes in the newer eDir. I don't know of any, but that doesn't mean
    the developers haven't come up with some.

    Technically yes. But I would still like to have at least one 8.8.7
    hosted replica of the partition(s) containing the new boxes.

  • 11g migration issues

    I'm not sure if this forum is the right place to post 11g migration issues? If not, maybe someone can let me know where to do that. According to the article (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/collateral/migration.html) which describes the manual changes you'll need to make after migrating a 10.1.3.4 app to an 11g (11.1.1.1.0 in my case), 'In this release, the migration wizard automates substituting references to adfFacesContext by the Trinidad equivalent requestContext in pages and page definitions...' I have found that this isn't necessarily the case. For example, in one of my pageDefs, the following reference was not changed to requestContext - RefreshCondition="#{!adfFacesContext.postback}". Also, I still see references to adfFacesContext in some of my jspx's as well. Just wanted to let someone know.

    Update: Not only does the migration process not replace 'adfFacesContext' with 'requestContext' in pageDefs and jspx's, but when I do a search on 'adfFacesContext' so that I can locate all references that need to be replaced manually, the search comes back with 0 hits, when I know there are many. So, apparently the search mechanism is broken too.
