DHCP scope only for WiFi

Hi. Is it possible to configure some DHCP scope on Windows Server 2012 R2
only for WiFi devices?
Maybe some policy?
Thank you!

Hi,
Base on my experience, in the enterprise environment, we usually create a private vlan for the wireless terminal.
Therefore you can create a dedicated scope for the wireless terminal device.

  • DHCP scope setup for 3702 APs on Microsoft server

Hello all, thanks for taking a look - I need some help.
    5508s running 7.6
3502s widely deployed, but wanting to start planning for 3702s.
Here's my dilemna. Option 43 as-is, simply doesn't work, and I'm having trouble figuring out how to add in the right VCI, or custom DHCP options on our Microsoft DHCP servers...
Can anyone provide me with some screen grabs or PDF instructions to help walk me through this configuration?
    Thanks much,
    Jason W.
(Here's a link to the doc that led me to believe I need to go down this road, and that there's just s custom DHCP option missing for my 3702 deployment. This link is outdated though.)

    Hi Jason,
There is a very good explanation from Jeff.(52.50 explains option43/60 on Windows DHCP)

I believe VIC should be Cisco AP c3700.
    Hope this helps.

  • DHCP Scope Options for PXE on swtiches

    Hello,
I am trying to get PXE support for OSD in a sccm 2012 environment.
WSD resides on the same server as my SCCM 2012 Primary server.
I currently have one dp with PXE enabled.
My networking team asked what I needed for PXE support.
    I responded:
DHCP discover package contains option 60
DHCP discover uses port 67 UDP
DHCP Offer uses port 68 UDP
Server ack from PXE server including options 66 and 67
Client unicast request for options 66 (boot server) and option 67 (boot file) (port 4011 UDP)
They responded with what do I need from below
     The above response
was from a different job and location. Now they are asking for info on boot file and hostname.  Hostname I would think be the dp or in our case, the sccm primary server.  The boot file, I have no idea
Thanks so much for your help,
    Mark

Ok, networking agrees to use IPhelpers, but needs "official documentation" of exactly what to do.  Does anyone have a link that I may give to network to use.  I really do appreciate it.  I never thought I would have to do the network
    part for them. :(
    Thanks,
    Mark
The general gist is that your router interfaces need to relay/forward bootp/dhcp "discover" & "request" to *both* your DHCP and your PXE-enabled DP.
This will cause the DHCP-client's discover/requests to be relayed to both, but the PXE-enabled DP won't respond to the initial discover/request because it can't issue IP addresses.
But once the client *does* have an IP address, and it issues a PXE request, the PXE request will be relayed to both, the DHCP server will ignore it but the PXE-enabled DP will process it and offer the NBP and then the TFTP of the boot image etc.
This is recommended/preferred over using DHCP options 66/67.
It's recommended in lots of places, but here's a great reference:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/system_center_configuration_manager_operating_system_deployment_support_blog/archive/2011/10/14/troubleshooting-the-pxe-service-point-and-wds-in-configuration-manager-2007.aspx
For "official documentation" on how to configure the router, the router manufacturer will help with that.
Cisco refer to their implementation as "ip helper-address", which is why the feature is often referred to as "iphelpers".

  • Using iphone 4 only for wifi while traveling?

Traveling abroad and want to turn off the phone (3g) while abroad and only use it for wi-fi..Anyone know how to do it?

Let me pick your brain on this one..is there a way to make one folder to put various emails in that come from different sources..ie..yahoo, personal domain, me.com? I would like to keep some hotel confirmation number letters, invoices , boarding info. etc. and keep them all in one place together for a trip abroad.

  • Can I cancel my phone plan and just use iphone for wifi?

I'm trying to save money, and I really only need to user phone for online access while traveling or as a GPS. What can I do to use this phone only for wifi?

If you want to use it (without a data plan) as a GPS, you'll need to purchase a navigation app that has built-in maps.  Navigon is one, although I can't recommend it.  Google for reviews of others.

  • Is there a way for internal DHCP Scope to release scope addresses when the wifi client has disconnected?

DHCP scope is configured on a WLC 5508.
I'm checking if there' a way for WLC to clear the dhcp leasing when a user is diconnected from wireless?

Unless the client sends a DHCP Release upon disconnect, which is not mandaded in the protocol, the lease will simply remain until it has expired.  If you're concerned with running out of leases, you only have 2 options.
    1. reduce the lease time of your dhcp scope
    2. increase the network size to accomodate more usable addresses.
There isn't a way to force a DHCP address lease to be "cleared" from the WLC simply because the client was disconnected.

  • Internal DHCP scope for AP on WLC 7.0 (on diff subnet)

    hi All,
I would like to know if it is possible to assign dhcp pool on a different subnet to the WLC management interface?
Eg: Management Interface is on 172.16.4.100 /24
I would like to use the WLC Internal DHCP to assign IP to my APs on the a different range 172.16.2.x /24
    Is that possible?
I  have tried assigning dhcp scope for the AP within the same subnet as  the management interface and it works. But that is not my requirement
Apparently i need my AP to be sitting on a different vlan
    please advise

No its not possible.. this works only if the AP and the WLC management interface is in the same subnet!! to ur issue we use something called as DHCP OPTION 43, google search DHCP OPTION 43 + cisco, the first link that u get wil help you!!
Please dont forget to rate the usefull posts!!

If Join was on then your home wi-fi must be set to Non-Broadcast.  If you did not set this up (maybe your provider did) then you will need to find the Network Name they used, and any password they used.  The SSID is Security Set ID and to see more try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSID .  Basically it is the name used to identify your router/network.  A lot of times the installer will leave it set as LinkSys, or Broadcom or whatever the manufacturer set it as for default.  Your best bet is to get whoever installed it to walk you through how they set it up, giving you id's and passwords so you can get in.  HOWEVER, if you are not comfortable with this (if you set security wrong, etc.) you would be well ahead of the game to hire a local computer tech (networking) to get this working for you.  You can also contact the vendor of your router and get help (if it is still in warranty), or at least get copies of the manuals as pdf files.  Sorry I can't give you more help, I hope this gives you an idea where to go from here to find more.

I can't connect to my school's free wifi. i was able to do it before but not anymore i get the self assign ip addrees message .it has no password only a pop up window before you connect to agree to school terms for wifi use. i don't get that window anymore. i tried everything I can think of. It is a 2010 macbook pro but i recentrly updated to osx lion and even with lion it was working fine so I nkow it is not the update. also Im able to connect to other internets at home it works great. starbucks too.  but i became so frustated that i reset my computer to manufactuter setting and reinstall snow leopard on it. still I cant connect. I need help please i have been searching all over the web for help and i see people has been having this same problem for years now.. oh yeah and i know it is not the internet cuz there are other macs connecting to it without a single problem so i think it is an isolated problem plase help....i have follow many advises such as delete the internet from your prefered netwoks. restar your commputer etc etc.

Be sure Safari does not have the Block Pop-Up Windows preference set.
Where I work now there are several unencrypted VLANs that require authentication, and Safari promptly pops up a window for me to register every time.

When I use my IPhone 4S to view the Shaw Go Movie Central App when I am at home I only use WiFi which is automatic, I start watching a show and sometimes I will get a message like "you can not use your cellular for video playback" or something close to that. Then I received an email from Telus saying I had used my 3G instead of Wi-Fi  using 75% of my data. How can this happen when I'm on Wi-Fi at home? If it switched to 3G for some reason I should have been disconnected and not just transferred to 3G network using up my data. What is the fix for this??

It doesn't have to be that complicated, Verizon iPhones come unlocked, just tell VZ you're going on Holiday/Traveling and suspend the service, no need to pay for service if you're not going to be using it. Pick up local SIM cards in the countries of your choosing, pop them in, re-activate iMessage and you're set!
I recommend getting a SIM card from the Three network in England, they have great EU roaming rates and free like-home roaming in Italy.
Set your phone's region to match the country you're in, it'll save from some headaches when calling local/international numbers.
    To answer your questions,
    1. If you choose not to have a local SIM card, it is good to keep your phone in Airplane mode to save battery.
    2. Make sure the two iPhones have different names to reduce sync/restore issues.
    3. If husband has an iPhone also, you can chat with iMessage/Facetime, just give him heads up about the new number you'll have. Otherwise, use Whatsapp if he's got an Android. You can activate Whatsapp with your American number or the international number if you choose to get a SIM in Europe.
Also, Get the MagicJack app and/or Google Hangouts, both of those apps provide you with free calling to the USA and Canada using any internet connection. Google Voice is another good way to SMS across the seas.
Let me know if you need any more tips for iPhoning across the pond.

  • He "seller" resets the iPad for me to use, do I have to get it re-activated or purchase a contract/service plan if I ONLY ever plan to use the iPad for Wifi Only???

Question to all the pros..I'm looking to purchase an iPad 4g second hand. Once the "seller" resets the iPad for me to use, do I have to get it re-activated or purchase a contract/service plan if I ONLY ever plan to use the iPad for Wifi Only???

No you don't need a service plan to use wifi. Take special precautions to make sure the seller is the owner. Be sure all their information has been removed properly. If it were me I wouldn't give the person the money until the iPad is registered in my name. I've read too many horror stories of people buying iPads they'll never be able to use because someone else's ID was still on it.

Trust me when I say this coming from 20 years of experience.
Get a powered external drive, format it 1 Partition Option: GUID and OS X Extended Journed as the format in Disk Utility.
Download and install Carbon Copy Cloner, clone internal drive to external drive.
Set a schedule to remind you to do it at least once a week, keep it near your charger.
When you plug your charger in, do plug the clone and power the machine up, set the display to sleep only,
    CCC will do the rest.
If you want to boot from it, hold the option/alt and select it Startup Manager.
I've seen many TimeMachine and TimeCapsule nightmares and so far haven't seen a problem from anyone using a bootable clone.
It's simple, it's easy, it's more reliable and more powerful than what Apple does and it only takes plugging in a extra cable.
Make as many clones as you want, keep them time seperated, off site etc. etc.
Cables don't have network issues, clones can be verified in seconds merely by booting from them.
Clones protect your productivity, your up in seconds on a clone despite even the hard drive dying.
Software problem? No sweat, boot of the clone and reverse clone your problems away.
If you want to fuss and muss with half implemented TimeMachine and TimeCapsule network headaches then prepare to suffer.
I don't like to suffer, I bought a Mac not to suffer, but it appears you do with TimeMachine and TimeCapsule.

iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • Multiple Lease Duration for one DHCP Scope?

    Hi All,
I have an urgent question. I wanted to know if it is possible to have many lease durations for different computer groups getting their addresses from one DHCP scope. I saw somewhere that it is possible to use User Classs or Vendor Classes for setting a lease
duration for a group of computers sharing the same class Id ?
If it is true, How can to configure ?
Also i would like to know about the lease duration period what is the maximum days can we have ( 8 days After )?
    Thanks
    Atul

    Please refer to the following-
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/26de79f9-6ad7-4088-9077-006b9dd8c1fb/multiple-lease-durations-for-one-dhcp-scope?forum=winserveripamdhcpdns
You can configure any value as lease duration; however if you want a very big/infinite value; it makes sense to convert the lease(s) to a reservation.

  • Best place to create the DHCP scope for Guest SSID for remote office connected to HQ Foreign-Anchor controller

    Hi Experts ,
Need help with the respect to understand the best practice to place/create the DHCP scope for remote site Guest SSID which will be connected to HQ Foeign-Anchor controller set-up.
how about internet traffic for Guest SSID , which one will be recommanded :
    1) Guest SSID gets authenticated from HQ ISE and exposed to the local internet
    2) Guest SSID gets authenticated from HQ ISE and exposed to the HQ internet
    Thanks

    Hi George ,
Thanks for your reply ...So you mean, best design would be to create the DHCP scope into DMZ for guest and let it get exposed to HQ internet ...
how about if I have another anchor controller in lets say in other  office and I need to anchor the traffic or load balance from HQ foreign controller , in that case if I create DHCP scope into HQ anchor controller and if its down , I will loose the connectivity , how do I achieve fail-over to another anchor ?
Do I need to create secondary scope into another anchor controller and let the client get reauthenticated from other location ISE and get ip address as well from another anchor controller . Is it what you are proposing ?
