DHCP server admin - no network interfaces to choose from

When I first installed OSX server I was able to create a DHCP subnet range and my clients are still connecting to the server and working fine. Now if I go to edit my subnet range, nothing shows up under subnets. Also, if I attempt to add a subnet, the selection menu for Network Interface shows no interfaces. Both en0 and en1 are working properly otherwise. Any thoughts?

In Network Preferences -> Show: Network Port Configurations, are the network ports ticked?

  • Can I add a third DHCP server to a WLAN interface?

I'm running a system that requires a third (and potentially fourth) DHCP server to be setup on each network in my network.
The first two devices are Windows DHCP servers serving IPs from different address ranges for failover. The third DHCP is just a listener to receive OS information and device names to be logged in a database.
Currently this works like a charm for my wired clients as I can add in the third and fourth ip helper-address on each vlan and the information is received by the listeners.  However, I cannot find anywhere in my WLC5500 to setup these extra two DHCP helper addresses.
The wireless vlan on my layer 3 switch has all the ip helper-addresses, but this doesn't seem to work, and the devices just use the DHCP servers set on the interface in the WLC.
    Is this possible?

You can disable dhcp proxy on the wlc (as long as the wlc is not doing dhcp). This way you can set your ip helpers on your L3 interface.

  • My iPad suddenly stopped connecting to my home network. It shows the network to. Choose from but there is no IP address or other information on the network page. It is set on DHCP and proxy is set at auto. Do I have another setting wrong?

My iPad suddenly stopped working with my home network.  It shows the network to choose from but will not connect. When I look at details in that network it does not show IP address or any other info for the network.  Setting is on DHCP and http proxy is set on auto. Network is active and can connect on wife's iPad and other home computers.  Do I have another setting wrong?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • What is SCVMM DHCP Server (x64) ? after pushing the agent from scvmm 2012 r2 console

    Hello Guys,
I have installed the agent from scvmm 2012 R2 console & notice that in add remove Program its shows two things one is " Microsoft System center Virtual machine Manager Agent (x64) other is Microsoft System center Virtual machine Manager DHCP server
    (x64)"
Need to know what is the role of this "Microsoft System center Virtual machine Manager DHCP server (x64)" on the server & why it get installed with scvmm agent.
    Thanks
    NM-BG
    NM-BG

This is a good question, and I am happy to explain why you are seeing this agent.
Windows Server 2012 introduced us for Network Virtualization using the GRE protocol (NVGRE).
In order to leverage NVGRE, you would have to manage your hosts entirely with powershell, if you didn't have VMM in place.
When VMM is in place (and really should be in place, when using NVGRE), VMM act as the complete management layer, also for the NVGRE part. Since NVGRE basically is a
policy driven technology, VMM need to keep track of every IP address used with NVGRE. During deployment of virtual machines connected to a VM Network with NVGRE (often referred to as Customer Addresses), VMM is able to configure static IP addresses
on to these VMs, using the agent you are mentioning. This was introduced in VMM 2012 SP1, and is also present in the R2 Release.
So to summarize, it is a Hyper-V Switch Extension that is required on all Windows Server with Hyper-V to have DHCP to work correctly.

  • How to connect old aiport express to my new Airport Extreme? My Ipad says "base station e5713b cannot be configured" and my AirPort tool on my PC will not permit me to add my new Airport Extreme network (no network names to choose from)

How to connect old aiport express to my new Airport Extreme?
I have a PC running with Win7 and just replaced my Jensen With a brand New Airport Extreme.
I have set up the Airport Extreme to the internet, Iphones and Ipads and it work as it should.
I have downloaded latest Version of Airport tool on my PC. In addition i have downloaded the airport tool for Ipad.
I have reset one of my airport Express and it now shows up both on the Ipad and on the PC airport tool.
My Ipad says "base station e5713b cannot be configured."
I have wired the airport Express to my Ethernet to be able to "see it" on my Airport tool.
My AirPort tool on the PC will not permit me to add the airport Express to my new Airport Extreme network (no network names on the drop-down list to choose from). I wished for an easy set-up, but nothing seems to be plug and play as the Commercial says.. can you please help me?
    Sigve

    Hi
    Thanks for Swift reply.
Yep - I in fact have two A1088 and one A1264
I actually bought the new router because the Jensen
router always lost connection to the Airport Express after some hours or days. I
always needed to restart my Jensen to play music and that was driving my wife
mad. The hope was that the Extreme should fix this. Both A1088 have been set up
to only stream music to two of my stereo amplifiers from my PC’s Itunes library.
    Are the A1088 now useless?
The A1264 has been set up to feed internet into a Denon Reciever that needed Ethernet cable.
    Please advise

  • Windows 8.1 VPN Server Setup - No Network softwaare to choose

    Hi Everyone
    Windows 8.1
Setting up an incoming VPN Server.
When I try to create a New Incoming Connection via  Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings > Alt - F > New Incoming Connection.
The wizard appears so  I check the User Account > Next  > Check Through the Internet > Next  bringing up the Allow connections to this computer window where I should be able select Networking software to be enabled and then go on
to click Allow Access button.   The networking software to highlight window is blank.  Using the Install... button below this window brings up the Select Network Feature Type window where I can highlight a feature (Client, Service or Protocol)
and click Add button .  It returns to the Allow connections window which has not changed and nothing is added.  Still blank.
How do I get the network software to be there to select?
I have done this on other machines and had no problems at all.  It worked the way it should.
After I did an image and reset operating system, the VPN Server Setup worked as it should.  Restored image as it is way to much work to rebuild the machine. So any ideas?
Any and all help will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance. Lowell

    Hi,
Did you mean you have solved this problem by resetting Windows?
Regarding to current information, this issue can be caused by port settings or corrupted Windows components.
Please check if the VPN port 1723 has been set as allowed in both your Firewall and router settings pages.
Also, we may fix such issue by running following repair command:
NOTE: Please run these commands as administrator.
    SFC /SCANNOW
    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

  • Bridge Mode or DHCP?  Extreme & Expresses network....from AT&T DSL

I have AT&T DSL and a Westell modem.  I take the wire from the modem to my Airport Extreme and create a wireless network with four additional Airport Expresses...BUT....I've had problems...and the Apple stores (multiple efforts) refuse to advise me.
I have several Macs...and recently purchased a Mac Mini Server too...and I don't know how to set that up yet, but it will be added after the network is configured properly.  I don't know how to plan the network to include the server.  I want to use the server to administer my macs (install software, uploading to server storage & other server features I don't know of yet).  I may host a domain and a site on the server but I'm not sure yet.
My primary interest is security.  My secondary interest is ease of use.
When I bring the wire from the modem to the Extreme, I need to know if I should use Bridge Mode or DHCP?
If I use DHCP I'll need to provide a range of IP addresses....and don't know what to use.
Can someone please advise me?  Many thanks in advance.  ;-)

    Hello everybody
I just installed OVM Server in a HP ProLiant BL680c G7 and the installation finish. But the network interfaces was not detected. (The installation skip the network steps)
The Server have 24 network interfaces (FlexFabric Embedded Ethernet)
Any idea in order to recognize network interfaces??
    greetings

    Hi,
try using OVM 2.2.2 which was released a week ago. (edelivery.oracle.com/linux)
A lot of drivers were updated, maybe now your network cards are also detected.

  • How to configure network interface only when cable inserted?

    Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone here could help me with a minor configuration problem. I have a server with two network interfaces, I'll call one "internal" and the other one "external". It has NAT configured so that the "internal" interface gets served DHCP, can access the Internet, etc. My problem is that sometimes I want to run the server without anything connected to the internal interface, and at these times it seems that the boot process gets stuck on the "bringing up internal interface" part. (It's a bit hard to know exactly what's going on because the server is headless.)  I am using a script in /etc/network.d/, set to static IP address, for the internal interface.
Does anyone know how I could configure Arch so that it only tries to bring up the internal interface if something is actually connected to the port? Otherwise I have to physically go to my server and plug in my laptop to keep the boot process going... let me know if I should provide more details.
    Thanks for your suggestions!

  • How do you configure DHCP server on OSX Lion Server

I want to use my Mac Mini Server as a DHCP server on my network.   I cannot find the place under Server to configure it.
Where would I find it?   It is not under Server.

    Hi
Download the Server Admin Tools from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1457
These are not installed when installing Lion and then Server App. Once installed launch Server Admin, click on the Server's name in the side panel, click on Settings > Services and enable the DHCP Service. Once enabled it should appear in the side panel. The rest should be fairly obvious?

  • DHCP server + IP multipath

    hi,
I have configured a solaris 10 box that runs a dhcp server with ha networking using multipathing:
ifconfig dmfe0 thehostname netmask + broadcast + group mygroup -failover deprecated up
ifconfig dmfe0 addif hahostname + broadcast + failover up
ifconfig dmfe1 otherhostname netmask + broadcast + group mygroup -failover deprecated up
The networking if working fine, and setting the failover period to 2500 in /etc/default/mpathd works great - unplug cable from dmfe0 and the host is still available
before using hahostname as a virtual interface, it was bound to dmfe0, and running dhcp was all fine. Now that the IP is on the virtual interface, the DHCP server address that clients see is the IP of "thehostname" (from /etc/hosts). 1st question: is it possible to get the DHCP server to show its IP address as the IP of HAHOSTNAME instead of THEHOSTNAME? I have added "INTERFACES=dmfe0,dmfe1" to /etc/inet/dhcpsrv.conf, not able to bind to virtual interfaces, would like to if possible
In addition to that, since implementing this networking config, dhcp is not running as well. The clients on the network all received dhcp addresses with no problems prior to the HA configuration changes, after changing to this config and restarting (either restarting the dhcp-server service with svcadm or even after a server reboot), some clients are not getting IP addresses. The clients are Windows XP clients, and I had to disable my network card and re-enable it to get it to get an IP address. I get the following error in event viewer (event ID 1001):
"The semaphore timeout period has expired. . Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server."
after getting an IP, i can renew my IP and there are no problems, but in the event of the primary nic failing (tested by unplugging network cable), i cannot get DHCP addresses again.
the first thing that jumps to mind is it might be an arp issue - should i be binding the same mac address to all cards perhaps? i have set local-mac-address?=true with eeprom.
    ideas?

You may want to ask this under Firewall section of this forum.

  • Bridging through built-in wireless to ethernet DHCP server

[originally posted here: Tiger Forums > Getting Online & Networking, where one suggestion was to try this forum]
I have a 1Gb ethernet LAN with my own DHCP, etc. servers, and an 802.11g WAP bridging to it using WPA2/AES. I've recently added two new Macs: an iMac connected to the ethernet and a MacBook connecting through its built-in wireless. This all works fine.
Since both Macs are 802.11n capable (with the addition of the $2 addon, which I've done), it occurred to me that I should be able to set up the built-in airport in the iMac as an 802.11n WAP that the MacBook could connect to as its preferred wireless network when the iMac's turned on, tripling it's connection speed to my LAN, and falling back to the 802.11g WAP when the iMac's not on.
I was able to do this pretty simply by setting up internet (LAN in my case) sharing on the iMac, and I could indeed get an 802.11n connection to it from the MacBook when the iMac was on, and fairly seamless failover to the 802.11g WAP when the iMac wasn't available.
Clearly, all the pieces are present to make my plan work, but there are two stumbling blocks:
    1. I can't find a way to get the iMac to bridge directly to the ethernet, so that the central DHCP servers provide the configuration for the MacBook. I don't see an obvious way to allow DHCP, but not use the server built into the iMac (or configure it to hand out the addresses I want). It looks an awful lot like the iMac is NAT'ing the wireless to the ethernet, which is definitely not what I want.
Is there no way to configure the iMac's wireless as a passthrough (bridge) to the ethernet so it acts as a WAP (even if it only accepts one connection at a time)?
    2. I have configured both Macs' wireless to connect to my WAP with WPA2/AES, and they do so just fine. When setting the iMac wireless up for internet sharing, why can't I set the same security options - it only offers me WEP, which I'm not willing to use.
I know the hardware can handle what I want, as can the BSD underpinnings of OS X (all of my LAN's servers run BSD variants), I just don't know how to configure it.
    Can someone help?
    Thanks.

    >It looks an awful lot like the iMac is NAT'ing the wireless to the ethernet, which is definitely not what I want.
That's exactly what it does. The 'Internet Sharing' option enables NAT.
This may or may not be a problem, though - what is the MacBook missing by getting its configuration from the iMac rather than your regular DHCP server?
(by default, when you turn on internet sharing the OS starts up a DHCP server on the shared interface).
You might be able to get what you want by just turning on IP forwarding rather than the whole NATD/DHCPD package, but I'm not sure:
    <pre class=command>sudo sysctl -w net.inet.ip.forwarding=1</pre>
but you'd have to try it to see.
    > When setting the iMac wireless up for internet sharing, why can't I set the same security options - it only offers me WEP, which I'm not willing to use
I don't know the technical reason for it, but I seem to recall that computer-to-computer wireless networks always (and only) use WEP. I don't know if this is because WPA isn't possible or if they just haven't gotten around to adding it, but WEP is your only option.

  • E1200 odd roque DHCP server problem

My local network connected to AT&T Uverse has both len and wiress connections.  with some devices specified in the DHCP reservations list.  all has worked fine for a while now. the UVerse modems do not support DHCP reservation configurations.
last weekend, one of my Linux machines (in the DHCP reservation list) suddenly changed its address from 192.168.2.34 (dhcp server at 192.168.2.1 as confgured) to 192.168.1.105 (dhcp server at 192.168.1.251). I couldn't find the second DHCP server, and eventually put iptables on my linux box to drop packets from that server and get back up and running..  spent sat/sunday fixing this.
Monday it happened again!.. even tho the iptables was still set to drop the packets!.. I found a dhcp roque utility for windows and started isolating parts of my network til I was down to two machines.. one windows and the E1200.
I ended up using the admin UI on the E1200 to restore the router to default and reconfigure back to operation, and the rogue DHCP server is gone!... I did NOT try to power off/on the router.
I do not know how this happened. Altho the E1200 was in the UVerse modem DMZ (so I could get DDNS to work) , I changed the userid and password, did not have wireless admin access or Wan admin acces enabled. It seems 'unlikely' that the router had been hacked, but I have no other explanation unless there is a pretty serious firmware bug. I have found other reports of similar behavior on other vendors routers, which seem to be caused by a loss of the wan link AND having DHCP reservation machines.
I have not tried to recreate the scenario. any ideas welcomed.

    config
ATT Pace modem, DHCP on, wireless on, address range 192.168.1.2- 192.168.1.40, dhcp server at 192.1.1
ethernet cable from ATT modem to 1200 'wan' port.
1200 DCHP on, base address 192.168.2.1, dhcp range 192.168.2.2-192.168.2.200, wireless on
    out of E1200
    ethernet to local machine
    ethernet to Insteon automation hub
ethernet to 4 port ethernet switch on other side of room
switch to local windows machine (dhcp reservation address 192.168.2.106)
switch to back of Dlink 1522 Access point, providing wireless to TV, Blueray player and roku box, access point address 192.168.2.5 in E1200 DHCP reservations list. DHCP off on 1522
back of dlink (4 port switch) ethernet to linux machine. 2 ft away.
back of dlink (4 port switch) to NAS storage device.
Brother multi-function laser configured fixed address Wirless to 1200 (192.168.2.195), need wireless for tablet/iphone/ipad print support.
so we have 1 ethernet network, and 3 wifi networks. (all 2.4mhz)
(my dauther and son-in-law here as they move back to local area from Chicago, have connectivity issues with wireless on 1200, due to house walls, not so much on UVerse modem.  1522 dedicated to entertainment systems.
Only the ethernet connected Linux box experienced this dhcp problem.
the roque dhcp server was at 192.168.1.251, and provided ip address 192.168.1.105
note that AT&T DHCP is 192.168.1.255

  • Leopard Server Admin Fails "there is no server available"

My Leopard Server has been running fine for months, uprgraded to 10.5.6 without difficulty a few weeks ago. Today, the Server Admin application is throwing up an error "there is no server available at the address you entered", with a box to delete it or save it.
    Huh?
The server seems to be still running fine - mail continues to be delivered.
I note that this error has been reported before here and elsewhere, but there doesn't seem to be any comprehensive solution.
    I would appreciate any help.

    Hi
For the lack of any further information it's difficult to say? It could be anything or nothing at all? Have you tried a restart? Sometimes you'll see this error message if there's a problem with your keychains? You're more likely to see it if there is a problem with your DNS Service. Although not definitive does Workgroup Manager have a problem? Can you connect to the Server using Server Admin remotely?
You should be able to remove the server from the list and re-add it. You can use its .local name, its loopback address, its IP address or its FQDN. Whichever one its having a problem with use one of the other methods instead. Any or all of them should work.
To remove keychains you could use Keychain Access. Keychain Access > Edit > Keychain List. Select the ones you want and click the 'minus' symbol. I tend to not bother and remove them from /User/Home/Library/Keychains as well as /Library/Keychains followed by a restart. You can also 'reset' how Server Admin presents its interface on launch by removing its .plist from /Users/Home/Library/Preferences. Quit out if it first. Take the com.apple.ServerAdmin.plist to the trash, empty it and re-launch Server Admin. You might have to restart the server. There's a similar .plist for Workgroup Manager.
If you can't connect at all then you are probably looking at a problem with DNS Services. Can the server resolve itself to itself? Issuing host or nslookup for its fully qualified domain name followed by its IP Address should present a clearer picture. You could also issue:
    sudo changeip -checkhostname
As this checks the validity of the Server's DNS. If it returns "DNS hostname is unavailable, please run the repair tool" then consult changeip's manual page.
