DHCP setup on Time Capsule

Hi
I need to connect a Mitel IP Phone to a Time Capsule that is currently setup on Bridge Mode and working well. The TC gets its internet connection from a ADSL modem/router.
When I switch the TC to DHCP/NAT mode I get a Double NAT error.
When I switch to DHCP Only I get an Invalid Value error stating "Sharing a range of IP addresses using DHCP Only requires manually configuring your WAN IP address. If your ISP gives you a range of static IP addresses, you should manually configure your base station with the first IP address and distribute the rest via DHCP."
Any ideas how to resolve?

The TC itself has an IP address even in bridge though.. which is derived from the main router.. similarly any other device you plug into the TC must get an IP from the main router.. the fact that it is bridged is irrelevant..
Can you please completely remove the TC and plug the ip phone directly into the EOP adapter. Does it get an IP address?? If not then simply changing the mode of operation of the TC still won't work. If it does work it must work with the TC in place just as well as without it.
TP Link TD-W8960N ADSL2+ which is plugged into a Huawei Echo Life HG612 VDSL2
This is really not good.
The 8960N is hardly a fit router. Why do you need it setup this way. If the HG612 is a pure modem.. then I recommend you swap the TC to act as the main router.
Connect the 8960N in wan bypass at the other end of the power line connectors and simply plug the IP phone into that.
At least buy a real router to replace the 8960N which is an adsl modem router which barely functions as a WAN router.

  • How do I setup my Time Capsule (3rd Generation) to be accessed from the internet while I'm traveling?

How do I setup my Time Capsule (3rd Generation) to be accessed from the internet while I'm traveling? It is installed on my home network behind my TWC broadband router.

Ok.. since the TWC modem is also a router.. all configuration takes place on this box.. NONE whatsoever takes place on the TC.
There is no airport utility 7.7.3 but there is a firmware of that number for the latest AC model TC..
    Is it tall like this.
    Then it is Gen5.
otherwise it will have a firmware.. 7.6.4 or earlier and the airport utility must be 6.3 or earlier.
Open the Airport utility and give us a screenshot of the summary page.
That will also help us determine that you have the TC, which version and how it is setup.
You might want to press the edit and also give us the Internet and Network tab as they should be set correctly as well.
I have created a DDNS through DYN.com although I am not sure how to implement this into the TC.
You do not do anything in the TC.. set it up in the Ubee router.
Port forward 548 to the TC in the Ubee router.
And make sure the TC has a static IP in the Ubee router.
Overall if you find this too hard I strongly recommend you buy a product designed for remote access .. eg WD MyCloud.. they are cheap and easy peasy to setup for remote access.. by PC or Mac and since it is built outside of Apple you not bound up in Apple limitations built into all their equipment to prevent you using it the way you want.. rather than apple want you too.. eg BTMM and iCloud being the only way apple provide for access to the TC and only when it is the main router of the network.
You are fighting hard because Apple made this hard.. not easy.

A PC can have more issues connecting than a Mac.
But it really should not matter.. so just try it in situ.. press and hold the reset.. once it starts up, it will return to default IP, 10.0.1.1 the PC should then be able to find it via the airport utility.
If not drag it over to the Mac and plug in there by ethernet.. or since it is a laptop, really should not be that difficult to drag the Laptop and plug it into the TC.
Important thing is to get access to the TC.
The Mac if it is running lion, then you MUST download and install 5.6 airport utility to do anything useful.

This means that your NAS does not support the required encryption. Update your NAS to the latest firmware or ditch it and buy a Time Capsule (they are the most reliable when using TM).

  • Where Can I redownload the program that allows me to setup my time capsule.

I recently replaced my old computer that had the setup program. My time capsule worked fine until I had to reset it because of connection issues. Now I have no way to setup my Time Capsule because I don't have the program.
    Thanks.

Just download the airport utility for windows..

  • How to setup apple time capsule with FIOSinternet and VZ router?)

    Hello,
I have Apple time capsule and the VZ Router MI424WR. I current set up:
    1. VZ router - wireless off, the rest is standard
    2. Time capsule: Wireless on in Bridge mode
Result: Internet works but the wireless network is very in-stable. Airtunes is nearly not usable.
I searched in the Internet and there was several comments that is is not a good combination. Therefore it is recommended to convert the VZ router in a modem mode and use only the Time capsule as the router. I tried this several times I do not get it to work. I followed this procedure (http://data.agaric.com/node/2160) but then I need the PPPoE Account number and password. But there do I get this? The Verizon support was not really helpful.
Please, is there a good and complete description to solve that issue?
    Thanks in advance
    Moebius

Go back to your first setup ...
Verizon router with wireless turned off
Apple Time Casule with wireless turned on
    Method 1:
With the Time Capsule in "Bridge Mode", if I remember correctly, you should connect the WAN port to one of the open ports on the Verizon router (I believe bridge mode also turns off the DHCP server on the Time Capsule, if not, find that and turn if off as well).   Change the addressing mode for the Time Capsule to "static" and assign it an address on the LAN which is not in use (choose something you know is out of the way but on the LAN -- I suggest 192.168.1.180 to start -- you can change it once you get everything working).
If it doesn't work this way for you, move the cable from the WAN port on the Time Capsule to Port 1 and try again.
    Method 2:
This results in a router behind a router setup, but unless you have devices connected directly to the Verizon router, it shouldn't be a problem.
With the Time Capsule disconnected from the Verizon router, turn on "Connection Sharing" (not bridge mode) and make sure DHCP is enabled on the Time Capsule.  You need to change the address range being used by the Time Capsule (which I think defaults to 192.168.1.x to another network -- I suggest, 192.168.2.x with a netmask of 255.255.255.0 and give the router an address of 192.168.2.1 on the LAN side.  Now, connection the WAN port to one of the Verizon router LAN ports.  If you had anything connected to the Verizon LAN ports, move those over to the LAN ports on the Time Capsule and reboot them.
    Method 3:
This is the least desirable of the scenarios because it relies on Verizon's crappy radio in their router (the Time Capsule has a much better radio and support 802.11n as well as b and g) whereas Verizon's only support b/g.    Go back to the configuration for Method 1, but also turn OFF wireless on the Time Capsule and turn on wireless on the Verizon router.   Try both bridge scenarios described -- using the WAN port first and if that didn't work, then moving the connection to port 1.
There is no scenario where you can place the Verizon router behind the Time Capsule -- since I believe Verizon is using all MoCA connections for the WAN side of their connection (you'd have to get Verizon to convert you to ethernet WAN and then they would not support you most likely for any STB issues with your FiOS if the Time Capsule was between the ONT and their router ... so don't even bother wasting time there ... more headaches than it would be worth.
If you're still not sure exactly what each configuration screen on the time capsule should say, post some screen snaps (or the configuration settings/choices which you are unsure about and someone will likely know the answer here).

  • How to setup AirPort Time Capsule with static IP?

Untill few days ago I have been using Airport Extreme as router for my network. It was cabled to the modem from my internet-provider.
    I had 2 printers, 1 iMac, 1 MB-Pro, several SONOS-devices, iPhone, Loewe-TV and iPad setup for it.
AND IT HAS BEEN WORKING GREAT FOR MORE THAN 4 years
Then I bought my new Time Capsule:
It is connected in the same way as the Extreme but now via a static IPadress.
The Airport-Utility says that I am using these set-ups:
    Internet - connection "DHCP"
    Network - "DCHP+NAT"
    The STATUS is:
    "DOBB. NAT"-message at the Airport-utility.
    Internet-connection is VERY-good and with high-speed.
I am NOT able to get connection to the TV - it shows 100% connection but will NOT allow me to connect to it (password IS correct:-)
It is only possible to get connected to the one SONOS Play:5 which is connected to the Internet - all the other devices can only be connected when I change the network-setting in AirportUtility from "DCHP+NAT" to "OFF (bridge)".
I have been told that when I am using a static IP-adress for my Airport then "DCHP+NAT" is the right setting in order to make the Airport set-up dynamic-adresses for the wireless connected devices.
I am not very-clever in this - but an old man who wants to get the right advice from a clever-person in order to find a solution.
ANYONE inhere who wants to help me?
    THANK YOU in advance,

I am unclear as to what has a static IP address. And why did you change the setup.. Would it not have worked in exactly the same way as the Extreme?
Is the static address in the WAN setup or the LAN side setup?
Lan side it should be fine.. WAN side is not fine. There are strict rules to apply to using static IP on WAN.
If you can fill that in, it will help me understand the rest.
Also have you updated the firmware in the TC yet? As soon as you have a WAN connection please do a firmware update as there are major issues with SONOS.. which requires Spanning Tree Protocol to work. Apple bungled that one in the first firmware of the TC.. so you must have 7.7.2 and I am not sure it is fully repaired even in that.
I hope you did not reset your AE yet.. sometimes it is better to stick with what works and use the TC in bridge to it.

  • How to Configure DHCP/NAT in Time Capsule

Assuming I can get my Comcast Cable model to act as a bridge, I see advice for setting up my Time Capsule as a DHCP/NAT.
    On the Comcast Cable modem:
WAN IP address  = 174.13.188.121. <- fake IP
    WAN IP gateway  = 174.13.188.122.
    WAN subnet mask = 174.13.188.122.
    LAN IP address  = 10.1.10.1.
    LAN subnet mask = 255.255.255.0.
I'd like to use 10.1.10.11 for Time Capsule, 10.1.10.13 for Mac Mini Server, 10.1.10.17 for iMac#1 and 10.1.10.19 for iMac#2.
But nooooooo. The AirPort Utility offers only the following DHCP Ranges:
    10.0.1.3 - 10.0.1.200, or
    176.16.1.3 - 176.16.1.200, or
    192.168.1.3 - 192.168.1.200
There's a checkbox for "Enable NAT Port Mapping Protocol," but the documentation on it is poor. There's also a checkbox for "Enable default host at: 10.0.1.253, or 176.16.1.253 or 192.168.1.253," but its documentation is equally poor. Apparently Apple didn't see the need to explain how these things work.
If I use a LAN IP of 10.0.0.1 for the Comcast Cable Modem, then use AirPort Utility to set a DHCP Range of 10.0.0.3 to 10.0.0.200 I receive a warning message that "The DHCP range you have entered conflicts with the WAN IP address of your base station."
I don't see the conflict -- what is wrong? Better yet, how do use AirPort Utility to set up Time Capsule?

Thank you for your response, but I remain completely overwhelmed by this mess. What should be something simple has become an enormous task.
    Internet

Cable Modem WAN IP: 174.13.188.121 (fake IP address)
       Subnet Mask WAN: 255.255.255.252
    Cable Modem LAN IP: 192.168.0.1
        Subnet Mask LAN: 255.255.255.0
I'd like all requests to my public static IP 174.13.188.121 to be served up from my Mac Mini Server with private static IP 192.168.0.19.
       Time Capsule IP: 192.168.0.11
Mac Mini Server IP: 192.168.0.19 running Server.app
    iMac #1 Client IP: 192.168.0.17
    iMac #2 Client IP: 192.168.0.13
I want the Server.app to serve the public. The above is what I have configured now. Some behavior is odd. For example, I can access the internet from the iMac clients but not the Mac Mini Server. I don't know why.
In other words, how do I string together my Comcast Cable Modem, Time Capsule, Mac Mini Server, iMac#1 and iMac#2 into a useful LAN that can browse the Internet and provide FTP and Web service?
I would think this is a common setup with several sample setups available on the web. No such luck.

  • How do I setup my time capsule with wireless internet?

I I have "Clear" so theres no place on the device to plug up an ethernet cord.. PLEASE HELP!!!! Would like to use the time capsule mainly as an external hard drive. PLEASE HELP!!!

For factory reset.. what model do you have??
    The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    Factory reset Gen 5
Hold in reset for about 5sec until the status light flashes quickly.
If your AirPort Time Capsule still doesn’t respond, do a similar reset to the Gen1-4.
Unplug your AirPort Time Capsule .. hold in reset and power the TC back on.. without releasing the reset.. wait until status led flashes rapidly.
To join a wireless network and assuming you are using a Mac with v6 utility..
    1. Full reset of the TC. as above.
    2. Open the airport utility.. the Mac must have internet connection to the wireless router which is working.
Click on other wi-fi devices which is your reset TC.
    3. The utility will choose the wrong item. You are not creating a network.. so click options.
    4. Click add to existing network.
    5. Make sure you then get the right network.. this is from my main router.
    6. The utility will then use join. Fix the name to short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric .. for better networking.
    7. The utility should complete the setup.. and you will probably need to fix a few things.. passwords or other errors fix them all up.
    8. You can now click edit and go the wireless tab and see the details.
This will give you extremely slow speeds.. it is highly NOT recommended.

  • How to setup wireless time capsule with 3rd party external HDD and router?

    Topic says it all really...
I've got a linksys router and an iomega external hard drive.
I want to have wireless time capsule setup but i don't really wanna shell out for an apple time capsule when I have a perfectly working router and hard drive...
Can it be done? would I be better off buying an airport express/extreme?
    cheers

    Welcome, jackbyo!
    I've got a linksys router
    Good product
    iomega external hard drive.
    1) The drive must be formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) to work with Time Machine.
    2) The drive will need to be connected directly to your Mac via USB or FireWire connection.
    Can it be done?
    As above
would I be better off buying an airport express/extreme
The AirPort Express will not support a hard drive.
Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port of the AirPort Extreme are not supported by Apple due to corruption issues.

  • How to Setup Airport Time Capsule 802.11AC on Verizon fios

I just got an Airport Time Capsule 802.11AC and i would like to set it up on to my existing verizon fios router as you can't change their router as the cable box works with it does anyone know how to do such a thing?

Setup is amazingly quick and easy, assuming that you connect a permanently installed Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <--> ports on the Fios router to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule, and then use AirPort Utility on your Mac or iPhone/iPad for the setup.
We need to know what operating system you are using on your Mac to provide any specific setup details. Or, let us know if you are going to use an iPhone or iPad for the setup.
The Time Capsule will set up another wireless network, so if  you do not need two networks, you can turn off the wireless on either the FIos or Time Capsule. If you decide to have two networks, be sure to separate the Fios router and Time Capsule by 5-6 feet or a few meters.....to minimize the chances of wireless interference occurring between the two devices.

  • What's a normal setup for Time Capsule?

I've a 3TB TimeCapsule. I have a new 27 inch iMac. The wireless router (BT Infinity 3 in UK) is in a different room from the computer.
The Time Capsule worked perfectly with my old iMac and Time Machine. However since I migrated to the new computer it's useless.
I now understand the glazed look my mother gets when I try to explain her laptop to her, I'm bafflted how to setup Time Capsule and Time Machine! I don't need a new wireless network as the old one still works. Equally I'm happy to connect the Time Capsule to the iMac via Ethernet cable. There's c. 1TB of info to backup. In frustration I've wiped the TimeCapsule so effectively it's straight out of the box. I thought I had it working over the weekend but it said it was going to take 27 million days!
How to I set it up, I just don't get it!!??
    Thanks

If you have 1TB to backup .. you should at least do the first part by ethernet.
So plug the TC into the computer.. start early in the evening and leave it run all night.. and half the next day.. you should be able to get 60GB per hour. Once that is done you can go back to your normal wireless setup.. but you need to likely do this in isolation.. I found having wireless running made it slow.
The TC will be in router mode to do this.. ie as it comes out of the box.. plugged into .. there might be lots of errors but it should work. If it fails do a verify of the data on the hard disk of the imac and see if anything is corrupt.
    See A5 http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Once you complete the backup it is up to you.
Bridge TC and plug into the existing router and just continue over wireless should be fine.

  • Privacy Setup for Time Capsule

I have a roommate, and we share Wifi through AT&T Uverse. I recently bought a new Time Capsule which I connected to the router via an ethernet cable, and I am confused as to what the best setup is so that my roommate can not have access to it, as well as backup their own computer on it.
I don't want to create a new network, as I feel like I will be decreasing the bandwith of the current wifi. But if I add to our exsting network (which i believe extends the signal), don't they have full access to my TC?
    Many thanks in advance!

There is no difference in these.. if both are set with wifi on.. then you can use roaming or different network names and passwords but that is exactly the same. From wifi point of view it is not a big deal. The value of the new AC version TC is to provide 5ghz wireless.. whereas the Uverse is only 2.4ghz. Just set the TC to say channel 1 and set the Uverse to channel 11.. all will be fine. Although Auto setting should also work ok.
So security is either to stop him accessing the wireless, so use a different password.. but if you have correctly bridged the TC to the Uverse then you simply use disk password and don't tell your friend what that is.
He can then use your wireless from the TC and still not access the hard disk.
You should also set a different device password to the default.
If you suffer from paranoia please read this. .otherwise skip it.
NB.. I always like to point out to people that security on the TC is a reset button away. If your roommate can reach your reset.. all your security is gone the moment he resets your TC.. A hard reset would leave obvious trail ie it lost configation.. although various excuses like the power went out can be given. If he was the sneaky kind.. he can soft reset.. and he then has 5min access to all your info on the TC.. and you have no idea when you come back that any breach was made.. since you cannot access logs or anything in the new TC. No warning message will tell you except during the access that soft reset has been used.
If you have something you want to keep secret.. the TC is NOT the place to store it, without using encrypted files.

  • I need to setup our time capsule with an arris cable router

We have an existing 1st Gen Time Capsule but have moved. We went from Verizon Fios to CableVision Optimum Online.
The cable modem is an Arris TM822G plugged into the the WAN port of the TC. I can connect to the cable modem via ethernet and that works.
The time capsule flashes yellow and can't get an IP address but, my MacBook Pro sees the SSID
We use this for Time Machine backups and don't want to lose what we have.
Any ideas?  Couldn't find any from CableVision.

Do a factory reset of the TC.. this seems to be necessary to get it going again in a new setup, especially with cable.
Also your TC is probably in bridge mode.. the reset will put it back to router mode.
Does the cable modem have a battery backup or phone service? Sorry I don't know the exact model.. anyway you need to shut down the modem.. if it is battery backup, drop out the battery or unscrew the coax cable. It can sometimes take 15min or more for the system to reset. when you plug in another device it will take the public IP. So the first device that connects captures the IP.. that has been your computer.. now you have to get the TC to take it over.
A reset of the TC btw will not harm data on the disk.
    Reset methods here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728
After full 15min.. (you can try one minute to start).. power up the modem.. wait 2min and then power up the TC.

  • Lacie 2Big Network Drive won't Accept a DHCP address from Time Capsule

    Good evening all.
I have 2 of these Lacie 2Big network drives. One accepts a DHCP address from my Time capsule and the other does not, giving itself a self assigned IP address instead. It does accept a manually assigned address though. The settings on both the Lacie drives are identical as far as I can tell and they both run the latest 2.0.6 software. I tried hard reset on the Time capsule, and swapping the ethernet cables over on the two Lacie drives but to no avail. The log on the drive that won't accept a DHCP address says it is timing out after 45 seconds and setting a self assigned address. The drive that won't accept DHCP is an older drive with software updated to 2.0.6, but it had the problem with the older software as well. Does anyone have a similar experience and / or solution ?
    regards
    Shaun

Also tried resetting PRAM, no luck.
What does work is if I use Manual DHCP mode and specify the router's address (192.168.0.1). Then everything works but not on Automatic, which worked for a long time.
