Diablo II on Mac

Hi, I recently decisided that I wanted to try and play Diablo II on my macbook pro, and so I checked to make sure the game was MAC compatible and it said it was on the box. So, I went and tried to install it, ut the disc in, clicked on the install icon and it opened a window, and I clicked on install and it said the game was not MAC compatible. I don't understand why that is,but I was wondering if someone might be able to tell my why, or even how to get it to install. Thanks in advance.

Download the MacOS X specific installer directly from blizzard. http://www.blizzard.com. That should solve your problem.

  • Diablo 2 on Mac OS X Version 10.5.2

Is there a more recent installer and patch for playing diablo 2 on a mac OS X version 10.5.2, then the one on the updates posted on 2005? None of them are working for me. I am able to download them and I get the diablo 2 icon on my computer, but when I click on it, it says it "quits unexpectedly" instantly! Maybe it's my computer (even though it's brand new)?

If you have a newer macbook/pro, then it won't run. There seems to be a problem with drivers or perhaps firmware. Blizzard (this supposedly happens with other older games as well) has spoken to apple about it and feel the ball is apple's court atm. Hopefully there will be an update that addresses this.
I'm in the same boat. I repurchased DiabloII to run on my new mbp, and have the same issue you have.

when I command +tab from diablo 3, my macbook pro changes to a non-retina resolution. But when I quit diablo, everything comes back to a full retina resolution. what's happening?
Is this some sort of defense mechanism to save energy or space? I noticed that this only happened after I installed mountain lion. I didn't have this problem before.

I don't think Diablo is the problem. It is retina compatible. Its what happens when I use diablo then go to desktop, or any other application - it (the other application) appears a bit blurred. as if its using the 2011 macbook pro resolution.
It can be fixed by going to system preferences and clicking "display" then use "best for retina", but it wasnt like this before OSX mountain lion...

  • Playing Diablo on a MAC

    Problems with playing Diablo II:
have used a blizzard link to install the game with no problems, can see the "preview film", also with no problems, but then the graphics choke up and we cant play. Havent installed expansion disc as of yet - thought we would get basics going first. There are references to "patches" on the blizzard site - what are these - and do we need them too? Any help would be welcome

  • Any possible way to install diablo 2??

I have a macbook with OSX Tiger. I've been itching to play Diablo II for a while now and can't seem to get it installed on my laptop! Is there anyway I can do this??

    You can't do it.
Diablo has never been updated to support Mac OS X. It will run on a PowerPC-based Mac since those systems can run Classic to support older applications, but Intel-based Macs cannot run Classic.
Unless Blizzard decide to update Diablo to support Mac OS X, you're out of luck.

  • Why spotlight Diablo 3 on rMBA when it get's such lousy performance?

I have the rMBA base model.  It is unable to play the game at full resolution even with all the "extras" turned to their lowest settings.  Chugging along at 20fps is unplayable if you are a "hardcore" player.  Are there any driver fixes in the future, or is the rMBP unable to play this game at it's retina settings?
If that is the case, then why spotlight the game during the WWDC?  I have a week or so left before having to return this thing, and I'd rather not, but it would be cheaper/wiser for me to buy a MBA + gaming desktop.
    Anyone?

It's Diablo 3's Mac client not the computer, at least thats what I'm assuming due to the current status of how bad and inconsistent the Mac client is. I run Diablo 3 on a 13inch MacBook Pro with Intel HD 3000 at 40-45 fps, but others with better computers have been struggling to get 20 fps. Try running it in Windows with Bootcamp and see how that goes because that has helped a lot with others.

  • Diablo III does not launch when Mountain Lion was installed

I recently updated to Mountain Lion.  I have Diablo III for Mac installed on my computer.  When I try to load the launcher it locks up.  Is this a compatability issue?

Do a backup before doing anything. To delete them you will need to enable the Root User and log in as the Root User. You need to be very careful while logged in as the Root User because you can delete any file and could potentially ruin your system. As soon as the non-functioning applications are deleted, log out and user your normal account. Did I mention doing a backup?

  • Classic Environment for OS X Tiger

    Hello Mac-users.
Before I got my MacBook, I used to play Diablo. Well, I wanted to play Diablo on my Mac too, but as I was about to install it, a message popped up and said, that my system could not open it. Maybe I need Classic Environment for my OS X Tiger version (10.4.10), but if I do, how will I be able to install it - if I can?
Otherwise, can anyone give me a clue on how to make my Mac 'accept' the installationsoftware?
I know this subject might have been up a few times, but I could not find other subjects that kind of answered my question.

    Kasper
You cannot install the Classic Environment on an Intel Mac.
There is a hack called SheepShaver (http://gwenole.beauchesne.info/projects/sheepshaver/) that has allowed some people (with difficulty) to run some OS 9 software. Personally, I think your best bet is to demand an updated version of the game from the makers.

I assume your MacBook is a PowerPC model (G5, G4, etc). If it is Intel based, you CANNOT run the Classic evironment on it as it will simply not be recognised. If it IS PowerPC based, then you can install Classic within OS X 10.4.x (and also 10.3, 10.2 & 10.1) but there are issues to consider: see
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106434 and
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75288
Don't bother with versions earlier than OS 9.2.2
Also, as you don't already have the Classic environment, I'm not sure if merely downloading OS 9.2.2 will do the trick as this is not in itself the Classic emulation environment you need. I've searched Apple's website including the Downloads section but can't find a specific Classic download. When I bought my G5 PowerMac, it was supplied with OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and Classic was included on the Intallation CD. I've since upgraded to 10.3 and then 10.4, and Classic is not included on 10.4's Installation DVD although 10.4 supports Classic if you already have it installed as I have. If you can't find a Classic download on the Apple website, all I can suggest is that you find someone with an installation CD/DVD for 10.2 and borrow it to install Classic. I'm not certain if Classic is included on the 10.3 Installation disk so you'd have to check if you can't find a 10.2 disk. Reading the pages I've supplied links to above, I suspect you may need to re-install 10.4.10 after installing Classic, but the info ion this isn't clear. After installing Classic, set it's Prefs so that a Classic icon appears in the right-hand portion of your extreme upper menu bar. This enables you to turn Classic on and off as required. Only turn it on when you need to use it as it slows the Mac noticeably (even with dual G5 CPUs!!). Hope this helps.

  • Games not working "not supported on this architecture"

    Hey all
My problem is killing me! All the games I go to install are coming up with "You can not open this application "Example Battlefield 2142, Need for speed carbon ect." because it is not supported on this architecture". I've checked the system requirements and they are all fine!
I've checked my hard drives permissions and there fine!
Does anyone Have any idea what's going wrong???

I have had similar issues. Over the last few years I have installed a secondary hard drive with more RAM, upgraded my OS to 10.5.8 and plugged a new Radeon 9600 graphics card in when the original blew out last year. Used to my computer (pre-upgrades) worked fine as far as video games & other applications (Final Cut Pro) went. Now it seems ridiculously picky when it comes to installing anything video game related.
    Successful installations since upgrading:
    - Adobe Creative Suite 3
    - Penny Arcade's "Rain-Slicked Precipice" games episodes 1&2 (PC/Mac) (games downloaded over the internet)
    Unsusseccful Installations since upgrading:
    - Tomb Raider Games (mac version)
    - Nostromo Speed Pad N-52 (keypad device - used to work pre-upgrade)
    Mixed Success since upgrading:
    - World of Warcraft + expansions (PC/Mac) (game currently installed on old hard drive, can be operated "through new hard drive"*)
    - Diablo II (PC/Mac) (game will install on both old & new hard drives, crashes when attempting to operate on new hard drive, will run on old hard drive, game crashes when operated "through new hard drive")
    * The official jargon escapes me. Basic idea: while my computer boots off the new hard drive I can still access the folders/applications on the old hard drive since the two are connected. WoW, installed on the old HD, can be opened/run while booted off the new HD.
Part of the problem started when my original graphics card burnt out. With the new card installed things run fine on the new hard drive but when I boot the computer using the old hard drive all the graphics looks like someone leeched all the color out of them and ran the images through a shredder. It otherwise operates properly... but it's hard to make out what you're doing and almost impossible to read anything on the screen. (For lack of a CS education I suspect that the old hard drive can quite grasp what to do with the newer Radeon card since it was a 2k3/2k4 model cpu to begin with.)
That some processes operate as they were intended to while others will not is, to say the least, perturbing. Most things will run on the new HD just fine but a lot of video games, though they may install correctly, crash when I try to operate them. Both Diablo and WoW are produced by the same manufacturer and each game is in its most recent version. I am convinced that the software is flawless, but the hardware is schizophrenic.

  • Will my 5th generation Mac with purchased upgrades support Diablo 3?

    Hello Mac family!!
I have a question that I have been getting multiple answers to.  My 5th generation Mac has the following specs:
OS X: 10.5.8 Leopard but I will be purchased Snow Leopard and Lion this weekend.
    Hard Drive: 50 GB
Processor: 2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 1GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (recently purchased a 4GB memory module)
Graphics/Displays:  Chipset Model: Intel GMA X3100
    Diablo 3 requirements are:
    Mac® OS X 10.6.8, 10.7.x or newer
Intel® Core 2 Duo CPU (or better)
    NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT or ATI Radeon™ HD 2600 (or better)
    2 GB RAM
12 GB available Hard Drive space
DVD-ROM drive (for retail disc versions only)
    Broadband Internet connection
Video settings reaching a minimum resolution of 1024x768
I will have the OS X problem fixed when I upgrade to lion.  I will also have the RAM problem fixed when the 4GB module comes in.  I feel everything else is in order except the graphic card.  Will my GMA X3100 support the gameplay or DO I NEED NVIDIA OR ATI Radeon?

Sorry iamkevbone, your GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) will not be supported by Diablo 3.
You can reference this list for GPU questions pertaining to Diablo 3.
    http://www.brainlazy.com/article/video-games/diablo-3-graphics-card-video-card-e nough/
On a secondary note, if you managed to get it to run at the lowest settings, you would be at an extremely frustrating framerate.

  • No sound in Diablo 2 Mac OS X 10.4.4

I recently installed Diablo II on my iMac (the last one before they added the iSight) and encountered the problem, that the sound doesn't work at all. When I start the game and want to adjust the slider during startup, it keeps jumping back to "no sound". Inside the game I can put the sliders to 100% without any joy.
I have 10.4.4 installed, the same installation runs perfectly fine on my old PowerMac G4 with 10.3.9
Has anybody heard about this issue before? Any ideas? I am running it natively on Mac OS X, but Classic is installed.

  • Can you play Diablo with the PC disk or is there a separate disk just for Mac?

Can you play Diablo with the PC disk or is there a separate disk just for Mac?

    Hi DJNIKKo,
I have the Diablo III install DVD - it's both Mac & PC install.
But warning - many players (on a PC board) dislike the game & stopped playing it already...
I played thru all the chars on 'normal' and started playing the 2nd difficulty, but running away (=being chased) by enemies is NOT my style of playing a game...
Check some youTube videos & see if that's what you want to do...
The ratio of hit points (HP) for enemies is:
    1. normal - 20 HP
    2.nightmare - 6000 HP
    3.**** - 150 000 HP
    4.inferno - 1 000 000 HP
This is for the same enemy...
(I have the Diablo 3 walkthru guide).
So this game is't for me...
