Diagnosing problem with house voice wiring

Apologies if this is slightly off-topic but do bear with me.  
As background, I switched to BT Infinity yesterday. Previously I was on O2 LLU. I've wired my house with cat5 and to some rooms use one pair for voice and another 2 pairs for ethernet data. I used a filtered faceplate on the master socket from Clarity to route a voice pair in wall cavities to a junction box where it routes to 3 sockets (and three phones). This has worked well for at least 5 years.
As the engineer (a contractor, not that that matters) was finishing up the install of the replacement faceplate he observed that reconnecting the existing internal "house voice pair" resulted in a disconnection of the broadband. Since it's my responsibility, he left it unconnected. So now I am a position where none of my phones work (because my internal voice network is disconnected) and I've had to relocate a phone to the master socket.
I am the first to admit I am not a communications SME and so have the following questions
1. I'm a little suspicious that my wiring worked fine with the original O2 (non-fibre) service. Is it possible Infinity is more sensitive which is why this fault didn't become apparent before now ?
2. I've got three voice sockets in my house so my plan was to reconnect each in turn and see if the broadband line stays up. Does this make sense ?
3. I've got a multimeter but it's not showing any voltage on my house circuit now it has been disconnected from the incoming line. If this is truly the case then surely reconnecting my internal line should have no effect on the broadband signal ?

If the install is ok then connecting a faulty pair of wires to the master socket filter wont effect the broadband.

    My biggest complaint with Siri is that voice dialing requires an Internet connection.  If I want to initiate a voice call to someone in my contact list why does Siri waste the time and bandwidth to access my contacts on my iPhone via the Internet?  This makes no sense and is much slower than was the case with normal voice control.
    My suggestion would be that when you say "call" Joe Smith Siri will first look in your contact list.  Why would you have it any other way?

    Siri also can't find contacts with non-typical but still common and phonetically simple spellings - Rebekah or Coffman.  The regular voice commands don't have this problem.  To Apple apologists who suggest that I go through my 800+ contacts and enter phonetic assistance, hey, get a life.  I need stuff that just works, which is supposed to be the the Apple hallmark.  My very first Palm Treo smartphone had more accurate voice dialing, and that has been true on all the Palm and Blackberry phones I had before getting a 4s.
    There is a solution.  Turn Siri off permanently.  The non-SIRI voice dialing works better (though still not as good as my old phones).  Then go to the app store and install Dragon Dictation and Dragon Go.  Both are free as of this writing.  Dragon Dictation is faster, easier to use, and more accurate than Siri.  Dragon Go is slightly clunkier to use than Siri, but the results are equally good.  Neither has the frequent Siri "not available" problem.  You will have to live without the smarmy comebacks, though.

  • Problem with BBM voice and video on Z10

    i have problem connecting on my Z10 with BBM voice and video. before it works fine but i think after an update of BBM is not working anymore. the chat sesion works fine.

    On your BlackBerry10 device:
    Reboot: On the side edge volume keys, press and hold down both of the Up and Down volume keys for about 20 seconds, ignoring the initial screenshot message... the screen will go black and reboot.
    Now, try again.
    Likewise, ask a BBM contact of yours to tell you if your BBM contact has the green icon for BBM voice/video.

    I understand your printer is not connecting wireless and only connecting USB. I have some questions and ideas for you that should help. Let's get to it!
    Could you please remove the USB cable, run the Print and Scan Doctor again and send me a screen shot of the results from running the diagnostic tool?

    Try power cycling the network devices:
    Turn off the printer and computer and unplug the router for 1 minute (do not press any buttons on the router).
    Plug the router back in and wait another minute, next turn on the printer and computer. Run the Print and Scan Doctor afterwards and try printing.

    I don't use LR and rarely use the bridge so I can not answers about thumbnails in them,  However thumbnails in windows file explorer and windows dialog for CS2 files will only show if you have installed codec into windows that will produce them. Windows does not do CR2 thumbnails on its own. I use FastPictureViewer Codec package for RAW File and PSD files thunbmail support.

  • Problem with WRT160NV2, both wired and wireless...

    I bought a WRT160NV2 Refurbed from CompUSA about 2 weeks ago, and since then I've been having some problems.
    It's not every site, but there are a few sites (three or four I've noticed)  that load very, very, very slowly. It happens using wired or wireless (Main PC is wired). I've tried rebooting both the router and modem multiple times (10 or 20 times at least) and looked through the forums and noticed some people said try setting the MTU to 1300. I tried that and it didn't seem to do anything, so I tried 1350, 1400, 1450, 1490, and 1100, with no results with either. When I connect using just my modem everything works fine. I'm frustrated because I can't find a solution to this. Any help would be appreciated.

    Since you have already changed the MTU size on your Router and still facing the same problem, then i think you need to Re-flash / Upgrade the firmware of your Router...
    Download the firmware from the Linksys website and then upload the firmware on your Router... Once the firmware is upgraded on your Router, then you need to reset the router and re-configure all the settings on it again...

  • Problem with TTS voices over 8kHz...

    When I use the Neospeech voice that comes with Captivate CS6 for text to speech, which is 8kHz, it sounds fine, but when I use the premium voice for the same character from Neospeech, whih is 12kHz, I get some kind of feedback and it sounds awful. I spoke with Neospeech and they tested it ad had the same results and suggested I contact Adobe. Anyone else had this issue?

    sound at 11kHz.. I should have tried that first, before making a
    fuss here, sorry. Looks like some weird glitch, a driver problem
    maybe, but anyway, switching to 11kHz seems to have solved
    it.

    Hello,
    First of all is important to say that this is not officially supported as PBR is not yet implemented on ASA firewalls.
    There are some tweaks that you can do to try to make this happens (not 100% sure if will work due to the nature of this protocol opening pinholes) and of course would not recommended for any real scenario.
    My best recommendation is to place a router in front of the Firewall (Just forwarding all traffic, no NAT being done there but performing the PBR for you).

  • Problem with adding voice track to video podcast

    I am working on a video podcast,adn to my horror, if I add extra voice tracks to the imported movie, the frame freezes on whatever was showing when my V/O began. Can this be corrected? another problem, is that the m4v file will not open in Quicktime pro but will open in VLC...

    It appears that the Amplitude of the two Audio Clips differ. When you play the Timeline with the Audio Mixer open, do those two Audio Clips show the same Levels, on the VU Meters?
    To expand the upper Audio Clip, you can go to the Audio Track Header, and hover the Cursor along that line between the Audio & Video. When the Cursor changes to an equal sign with up/down arrows, click+drag up, to zoom vertically, until the Waveform of that Clip expands, to see it more clearly. Finding that exact spot, where the Cursor changes can take some hovering, but when you see the Cursor change, you know that you are there.

  • Really freaky problem with mic voice quality on calls

    With my old headphones getting, well, too old, I decided to buy new ones, and so I did. The problem is, when I tried using them, my friends told me (while laughing non-stop) that it sounded like I was speaking from afar and with the typical headphones of fast food restaurants workers that make your voice sound weird.I thought it was the headphone's fault, so I changed them today, but the exact same thing happened. I thought maybe it was cuz my old ones worked on a USB connection, and the 2 new ones with a jack cable, but a friend told me it didn't make any sense and, furthermore, I tried calling him on Skype and he actually could hear me perfectly! Then I went to try again with my friends and, for them, it still sounded insanely weird as always (disclaimer: no, they are not pulling my leg). I disabled the automatic configuration of mic in audio configuration, played with the slider, whatever I could see in the options. I'm completely bewildered because I don't even know if what's happening is a problem, an incompatibility of my PC with jack headphones, or what's going on.I would appreciate any sort of insight.

        Hey there, Skymoose! I'm glad to see that you're managing your device. No, I can't say that clearing the cache would impact your voice quality. The cache is merely a temporary memory storage function. Do you use a headset of any kind with your device? If so, does this issue occur with and without the headset?

  • [Solved] Problems with net-auto-wired, no interent after install

    *Background*
    I am returning to Arch Linux after being away for about a year. I have finally had a chance to install Arch on my new laptop. Since I am new to systemd and the new installation process I followed the beginners guide very closely.
    *Description of the Steps I followed and the Error I encountered*
    When I came the the "Configure the Network" Portion of the Beginners' Guide, I chose to follow the net-auto-wired setup. This was partly because I found the warning to be confusing and could not understand why the Guide included a command that "won't work". Additionally I the "net-auto-wired" method seemed given the language of the Guide to be the superior alternative. So I followed the following steps:
    # pacman -S ifplugd
    # cd /etc/network.d
    # ln -s examples/ethernet-dhcp .
    # systemctl enable net-auto-wired.service
    These commands returned no errors, nor did the net-auto-wired daemon fail to initialize on reboot. I simply did not have a connection with the internet, even after confirming that all the wires were securely plugged in.
    *Question for the Forum*
    I was able to establish a connection with via several means as well I will likely be installing dbus and wicd to manage my internet connections. So my question is less about how to get connected and more (a) how to trouble shoot net-auto-wired and (b) what language and procedures can we change to the Beginners' Guide so that this issue is not encountered by beginners in the future.
    *Information I have Uncovered*
    When the net-auto-wired daemon failed to establish a connection. I immediately tried running the following command:
    # systemctl enable [email protected]
    The output of this command (what is following) showed me what the warning was talking about, how it rename the symbolic link to eth0.service and not enp4s0f2.service as it should have.
    ln -s '/usr/lib/systemd/system/[email protected]' '/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/[email protected]'
    I attempted to resolve this issue by creating the symbolic link with the following command
    # ln -s /usr/lib/systemd/system/[email protected] /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/[email protected]
    After reboot, the appropriately started the dhcpcd@ deamon and established an internet connection.
    It also hit me that the netcfg profile "ethernet-dhcp" would be pointing to the wrong interface. I edited the profile to interface with the enp4s0f2 not eth0 and was able to establish a connection manually with the following command but net-auto-wired still failed to work.
    # netcfg ethernet-dhcp
    At this point I checked the status of the of the net-auto-wired daemon with the following command which uncovered what is most certainly the issue.
    # systemctl status net-auto-wired
    net-auto-wired.service - Provides automatic netcfg wired connection
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/net-auto-wired.service; disabled)
    Active: active (running) since Thu 2013-01-24 14:47:12 EST; 36s ago
    Main PID: 421 (ifplugd)
    CGroup: name=systemd:/system/net-auto-wired.service
    421 /usr/bin/ifpluged -i eth0 -r /etc/ifplugd/netcfg.action -fIns

    Jan 24 14:47:12 ragnarok ifplugd[421]: Using interface eth0
    Jan 24 14:47:12 ragnarok ifplugd[421]: Initalization complete, link beat not detected.
    Obviously the issues with this are it use of eth0 and not enp4s0f2.
    I do not know where to go from here but I am curious if the issue of dhcpcd@ misnaming the symlink is some how related to this issue.

    Yes, it seems that after a period of inactivity (5 minutes ?) the forum software automatically logs someone out.
    After that happened to me for the zillionth time, i installed the firefox addon ReloadEvery .
    Now i always open 2 tabs for arch forums : 1 that just shows the index, and has reloadevery enabled with a time of 1 minute.
    The 2nd tab is for reading/answering etc.
    Haven't been logged out automatically since.

    Reading Cisco documentation , I see that router 1841 and 1841 does not support as Voice Gateway.
    My idea is to connect to him a Primary ISDN (30 channel B) so that it works like a PBX and users can make calls towards PSTN.
