Dial up betwn Oracle on HP-UX & Oracle on Win-95
Hello Everybody
I have Oracle Enterprise edition 8.0.4 on HP-Unix and Personal
Oracle 8.0.3 on Windows 95. I want to establish connection
between these two databases through dial-up. I have already
established connectivity through lease line.
I can dial up through Windows machine but I am not able to dial
up through HP-9000 server. Please can anybody guide me. I will be
highly obliged.
Thanks in advance.

Noble,
This is not the best forum for this question.
Maybe the public news forums would be better,
or Oracle support if it is available to you.
My comments would be:
Oracle has the async v1 and v2 protocol for doing this,
but your best bet is to set up a tcp/ip ppp connection, as used
by 200 million internet users..
This may raise some security concerns, but dialling back to the
server trying to make the connection, as well as the normal
password protection gives some security comfort.
Information on how to do this should be widely available as it is
not Oracle or windows or hp specific.
You can then use a normal tcp/ip connection database link etc..

Oracle reports 6i to Oracle forms 10g migration
Hi,
I have .rdf files which were created on Oracle Reports 6i. I would like to migrate the .rdf files into Oracle Reports module which is present as a part of Oracle Forms 10g to generate PDF output.
Please let me know the detailed steps to be followed as I am a total newbie. Also I need to generate these reports on demand from a java 5 application (JSF 2.0).
Currently for ORacle reports 6i, I have the following code in my java application
rwrun60.exe g:\tomcat33\webapps\reports\web-inf\src\null userid=***/*** destype=FILE desformat="pdf" paramform=NO printjob=NO batch=YES desname=temp.pdf
1. What would be the equivalent for reports in ORacle Forms 10g ? I know there is an Oracle Apps server where ther report services reside. How to I invoke my report from my java application (residing on a weblogic server 10.3.6)?
2. What ould I do with the 6i .rdf files to upgrade them to 10g ?I am trying to call an Oracle report i.e .rdf (which is located on the Oracle App Server) from my java EE 5 (JSF) application. The Oracle App server is Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2. I assume Oracle report generation capability is available in this release. I need to invoke the report from my Java JSF application on demand (whenever the user clicks a button on the web browser page, the report should appear on the browser as PDF) . My java application resides on Linux weblogic server.
Please let me know how it can be done ? I see rwclient.sh and another method to directly invoke using a URL. How do I do it on java, would a request.redirect() to the URL work ?
Also for hiding the params in the URL. keys need to be configured on the Oracle server right ?
Also if we use rwclient.sh or the URL based invocation, would there be any issue in concurrency when multiple users request the same report at the same time ? -
Installation problem oracle 11g R2 on oracle enterprise linux 5 update 5
hello support,
i've installation problems with oracle 11g R2 on oracle enterprise linux 5 update 5. In the section "ORACLE Net-Konfigurationsassisten" the failure "[INS-20802] Oracle NET-Konfigurationsassistent not success". What's wrong? I've followed the instructions on http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/smiley-11gr1-install.html
I've heard the problem can occur with problems in /etc/hosts? My /etc/hosts is configured:
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1 oracle localhost.localdomain localhost
::1 localhost6.localdomain6 localhost6
is this ok? what can I do to bring the database-installation to success?
Thank's for help ;-)

Data Transfer from Oracle database 10g to Oracle database 9i
Hi Experts,
We need to insert records at the speed of min 10,000 records per sec in the following condition.
Source : Oracle 10 g and Oracle 9i
We need to select the data from Oracle 10g and insert into Oracle 9i database.
Here we not allowing to create database link and also not allowing to create view or materialized view
because this two database is not on same network.
So we developing the small java application on intermediate server where we write process to get the connection of this two database servers.
From java application we call the procedure for selecting data from Oracle 10g and insert into oracle 9i database.
What is the best way to achieve?
Or You also suggest any other way to achieve
( As per this scenario materialized view is working ? )Thanks freiser,
But it create another problem as per my business logic, There will be two database server , one is online server where online user fill the form which is generated by java, spring , hibernate and using database 10 g.
at day end i need to execute a process that transferring data from online server to offline server that is in oracle database 9i. This process is scheduled. Some security reason client do not kept this two database on same network.
My challenge is that transfer data from online server to offline server with applying client security norms.
I have option like
1) Using Oracle replication method, creating materialized view on remote server , refreshing it at regular interval. but database connectivity is not contineous, should i go for that ?
2) Write java application on intermediate server where we write process to get the connection of this two database servers. From java application we call the procedure for selecting data from Oracle 10g and insert into oracle 9i database and using flag on both data to identified how many rows are transfered and how many remaining for trasfer.
Please tell me what is best way to acheive this ? -
How to install Oracle Label Security in Oracle Database 10g EE
Hello All
I just want to know how to install Oracle Label Security in Oracle 10g Database EE.
I read in Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control Installation and Basic Configuration that Label Security must be installed before installing Enterprise Manager Grid Control.
I have Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1.0.1) on my Windows XP System, and I patch it to 10.1.0.3.
M.
Sorry about my English.Options is to connect to Oracle Policy Manager or use Oracle Internet Directory (OID)to administer Oracle Label Security.
Find more ways in the Documentation here:
http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/network.102/b14267/toc.htm -
I use the Oracle Identity Manager 9.1.0.4
The Trusted Reconciliation Souce System has Oracle 8i and Trusted Souce System have 8 Sytems.
When i would connect the Oracle 8i Database, i could not connect the Oracle 8i.
but i could connect the Oracle 10g.
I want to connect the Oracle 8i database, What should i do??????

Edited by: mrmusso on Dec 23, 2009 2:38 AMWell what is the error which you get while doing Trusted Recon. If its some connection error then confirm that you have required connection jar files placed in the ThirdParty folder of OIM.
I am not very sure but I thing these would be the jar files required:
Oracle 8i - classes12.jar
Oracle 10g - ojdbc.jar
so make sure you have right jar files.
Thanks

Fyi.. I've tried to install DBD::Oracle version 1.24 and 1.50 but that doesn't seem to make any difference. I couldn't find any related thread either for this error so I desperately need a solution to the same(if any).
If anyone can help here, would really appreciate it or else, I will have no choice but to install previous version of oracle client.
Thanks

Need help regarding upgrading Oracle 10g Forms to Oracle 11g Fusion Middlew
Hi All,
I am trying to create a workshop on a VM for showing the migration / upgrading of Oracle Forms 10g to Oracle 11g FMW using the Upgrade Assistant tool available in <ORACLE_HOME>/bin/ua.bat.
As per my understanding of pre-requisites:
1) I need to install Oracle SOA Suite 10g on my VM.
2) I also need to install Oracle SOA Suite 11g on my VM.
3) I need to install Oracle Forms/Reports Services 10g on my Oracle SOA Suite 10g installation.
4) I need to run Oracle Forms/reports installer on my Oracle SOA Suite 11g installation.
5) I need to run upgrade assistant tool on my VM to upgrade my form from source(Oracle SOA Suite 10g) to destination(Oracle SOA Suite 11g). Is it mandatory for this migration that I should have Oracle SOA Suite 10g and Oracle SOA Suite 11g on the same system ?
Having all these software installed on one VM would be difficult. So just wanted to check can I avoid any software to install on VM ?
If there is any alternative suggestion then please let me know.
Regards,What do you want to do with the SOA-suite? At least for Froms10G is is not necessary.

PL/SQL migration from Oracle 7.3 to Oracle 8.1.6
Hi,
I am planning to upgrade from Oracle 7.3 to Oracle 8.1.6. As well from HP-UX 10.20 to HP-UX 11.0.
I do not want to run my PL/SQL code in compatibility mode.
Please suggest migration path.
Also, i want to migrate PL/SQL scripts from 8.0.5 to 8.1.6 on HP-UX 11.0. I know this should be
straight forward migration.
Does the recompilation on HP-UX 11.0 with 8.1.6 environment works fine..?!
I read about the 'utlrp.sql' script to be run to find out the report prior to recompilation on target
platform. If i do this, it should enough OR is there any other ways of doing things..?!
Please post your feedback.
Thanks,
vinodHi,
I have never done the migration from 7.3 to 9i. But I had done 8.0 to 8i and 8i to 9i.
Pl/SQL code should work fine as it is. I wonder what will happen if you have any variables declared VARCHAR (not VARCHAR2) ? There can be few places like that, if the application was originally written on Oracle 6.Otherwise, the code should work as it is.
Regarding Pro*C, you need to use the new make file which has come with 9i.
Also, I do not remember exactly, but probably, you need to initialize all VARCHAR veriables declared between BEGIN DECLARE SECTION and END DECLARE SECTION. Initialize all of them with \0 (NULL charactor).
I think that should be enough for 7.x application to run on 9i.

(V9I) ORACLE 9I NEW FEATURE : ORACLE FLASHBACK
제품 : ORACLE SERVER
작성날짜 : 2002-11-01
(V9I) ORACLE 9I New Feature : ORACLE FLASHBACK
==============================================
PURPOSE
Explanation
Flashback : 새로운 기능인 Flahback 은 과거 시점의 consistent view 를 볼 수있는
기능으로 system time or systme change number(SCN) 기반 read-only view이다.
UNDO_MANAGEMENT = AUTO
2) Rentention interval 을 두어 해당 time 동안은 inactive rollback 이라 하더라도
overwrite 되지 않도록 유지(초단위)
SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SET undo_retention = 1200;
UNDO_RETENTION 을 지정한 다음 실제 적용을 위해 5분정도 기다려야 한다.
3) DBMS_FLASHBACK package를 이용하여 Flashback 기능을 enable 시킨다.
SQL> call dbms_flashback.enable_at_time('9-NOV-01:11:00:00');
Example1. Flashback setup 과 date/time 설정
1) Undo tablespace 생성
SQL> create undo tablespace UNDOTBS datafile
'/database/901/V901/undotbs01.dbf' size 100M;
2) intiSID or spfile 에 다음 파라미터 적용
undo_management=auto
undo_retention=1200
undo_tablespace=UNDOTBS
3) dbms_flashback exeucte 권한 grant
SQL> connect / as sysdba
Connected.
SQL> grant execute on dbms_flashback to testuser;
Grant succeeded.
4) test table 생성
SQL> connect testuser/testuser;
Connected.
SQL> create table emp_flash as select * from scott.emp;
Table created.
SQL> select count(*) from emp_flash;
COUNT(*)
15
5) table 생성후 5분 정도 waiting -> table delete
SQL> delete from emp_flash;
15 rows deleted.
SQL> commit;
Commit complete.
SQL> select count(*) from emp_flash;
COUNT(*)
0
6) flashback 활성화
SQL> execute DBMS_FLASHBACK.ENABLE_AT_TIME(sysdate - 5/1440);
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
SQL> select count(*) from emp_flash;
COUNT(*)
15
SQL> execute DBMS_FLASHBACK.DISABLE;
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
SQL> select count(*) from emp_flash;
COUNT(*)
0
Example2. Flashback 으로 잃어버린 data recovery
1) test user 생성
SQL> connect testuser/testuser;
Connected.
SQL> create table emp_recover as select * from scott.emp;
Table created.
SQL> select count(*) from emp_recover;
COUNT(*)
15
2) delete table
SQL> VARIABLE SCN_SAVE NUMBER;
SQL> EXECUTE :SCN_SAVE := DBMS_FLASHBACK.GET_SYSTEM_CHANGE_NUMBER;
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
SQL> PRINT SCN_SAVE
SCN_SAVE
6.4455E+12
SQL> select count(*) from emp_recover;
COUNT(*)
15
SQL> delete from emp_recover;
15 rows deleted.
SQL> commit;
Commit complete.
SQL> select count(*) from emp_recover;
COUNT(*)
0
3) flashback 이용한 data recover
SQL> DECLARE
2 CURSOR FLASH_RECOVER IS
3 select * from emp_recover;
4 emp_recover_rec emp_recover%ROWTYPE;
5 begin
6 DBMS_FLASHBACK.ENABLE_AT_SYSTEM_CHANGE_NUMBER(:SCN_SAVE);
7 open FLASH_RECOVER;
8 DBMS_FLASHBACK.DISABLE;
9 loop
10 FETCH FLASH_RECOVER INTO emp_recover_rec;
11 EXIT WHEN FLASH_RECOVER%NOTFOUND;
12 insert into emp_recover
13 values
14 (emp_recover_rec.empno,
15 emp_recover_rec.ename,
16 emp_recover_rec.job,
17 emp_recover_rec.mgr,
18 emp_recover_rec.hiredate,
19 emp_recover_rec.sal,
20 emp_recover_rec.comm,

ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message: ORA-02063: preceding line from OWB_75
Scenario:
I am having difficulty getting ODBC connection between Oracle OWB app with an 11gR2 DB (running on a VirtualBox Linux) and SQL Server 2008 running directly on the host. (Windows 8)
I am trying to take a SQL Server 2008 feed into Oracle Ware house Builder, and think(!) I have read everything and configured it in accordance (but I presume not given 3 days of failed attempts to fix it). I have also read several blogs, hence there might be a few more settings in the configuration files than the formal documentation says, but these have come from blogs that have “Solved” problems for other similar situations.
The environments:

Windows 8 (64bit) , with system DSN ODBC connection ACME_POS created with 32 bit ODBC set up (This setting still shows up fine in the 64 bit ODBC).

Rafe.Let us rewrite your ODBC DSN a little bit... Your current odbc.ini looks like:
[ACME_POS]
Driver = FreeTDS
Description = ODBC Connection via FreeTDS
Trace = 1
Servername = 192.168.1.80
Database = dbo
Let us change it a little bit so that we only need one config file - no odbcinst.ini nor freetds.conf file anymore:
[ACME_POS]
Driver =/usr/local/lib/libtdsodbc.so
Server = 192.168.1.80
Database
= dbo #### I have some doubts that you have a SQL Server database called dbo - one database that always exists is master - so as a test use master here or get the real database name of the SQL Server database you want to connect
Port = 60801 ## make sure it really is the correct port - best would be to check on the SQL server and then try telnet <ip> <port> if you can connect to the SQL server
TDS_Version = 8.0
QuotedId=YES
Especially the last 2 parameters are mandatory. TDS_Version specifies the TDS Version you have to use to connect to the SQL Server and QuotedID is required for DG4ODBC as it surrounds objevt names by double quotes.
What happens now when you try to connect with for example isql - the ODBC test utility shipped with the ODBC Driver manager?
In addition, could you please do me another favour and check the word size of DG4ODBC and the ODBC Driver Manager as well as the ODBC Driver - just execute:
file /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/bin/dg4odbc
file /usr/local/lib/libtdsodbc.so
file < the patch to your libodbc.so library>/libodbc.so
and post the output. -

There is a typo in the name of you gateway init file. You posted the content of inithMYSQL.ora but the naming is init<SID>.ora which is in your case initMYSQL.ora.
In addition please keep in mind HSODBC has been desupported since 2008 and when starting a new configuration you should use the follow up product dg4odbc (Database Gateway for ODBC) V11. -

How can we clone the Oracle database in new Oracle Home
Hi,
I would like to clone oracle database into new oracle home. How can we set it using OEM.
I am using 10g grid control. Target db is on solaris
Thanks
Naveenafter logging into target database, under maintenance tab, data movement header; ther is "clone database" option. When you click on it; you'll see :
Clone Database uses RMAN to duplicate a database from:
-- An open database in ARCHIVELOG mode, or
-- An open database in NOARCHIVELOG mode (restart required), or
-- A saved working directory from previous cloning
Clone Database performs the following operations:
-- Backup each database file and store it in a working directory
-- Transfer each backup file from source to destination host
-- Restore each backup file to existing destination Oracle Home
-- Recover the cloned database with saved archived log files
-- Open the cloned database with resetlogs
It seems to be for cloning to a different host, but i guess you can chose the same host for source and destination. (I've never used cloning on em by the way :))
But firstly, you should create a new oracle home, you can simply copy your oracle home with a new name (cp -R /oracle/app/oracle/product/10.2.0 /oracle/app/oracle/product/10.2.0.new) or make a new installation.
I suggest you to do this cloning with CLI. You should take a full backup with RMAN, copy the oracle home, create a new initNEWSID.ora file and nomount the database, restore (or simply copy) controlfiles, restore database (with set newname commands), recover database, open resetlogs. -
Oracle Text in installing Oracle 10g without licence!!
Hi. Everyone.
I've read some thread , but I am still confused about "oracle text".
Now, I am testing oracle10g database.
I downloaded 10g software from www.oracle.com, and installed it sucessfully
on windows xp.
When I was trying to import a dump file from oracle9i to
the unlicenced oracle10g database, I got the error , IMP-00017, which
is related to "Oracle Text".
I checked "dba_users" dictionary, but ctxsys user is locked and expired.
I read some thread on this site, and according to the advice, I tried to
enable oracle text, using "DBCA".
However, every database option on DBCA is disabled, I was not able to
check oracle text.
Lastly, how can I enable "Oracle Text" with unlicenced oracle 10g ?
Is this possible without licence?
I am very confused about this.
I am looking forward to hear your experience and advices.
Have a nice day.
Best Regards.
Ho.Well, instead of being confused, you could go to http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=1 and look at
1) the licensing document, which would tell you whether you need a separate license, and
2) under the 'Books' tab, look at the Text Application Developer's Guide or the Text Reference manuals for details.
You could also look for the Oracle Text forum (from the http://forums.oracle.com page, under Database - More, or Text and ask the people who concentrate on that set of features.
In general, Oracle Text is a set of extensions, the definitions for which are stored under user ctxsys. You would use these extensions by creating your own objects that are based on the extensions.
For example, suppose your tables contain varchar2 columns. Create indexes that are based on ctxsys's 'context index type' and your application can then use the 'CONTAINS' keyword search capability (which is effectively a ctxsys-owned extension to the select)
However, you would never log on to ctxsys and do anythibng with that as you risk changing the template code that Oracle has supplied.

PS: Yes, Oracle Text is included as part of the base database. Most of it is even included in the free Oracle XE database. -
Porting from Oracle 10g AS to Oracle 11g Weblogic server
Hi,
I am trying to port J2EE applicatin from Oracle 10g AS to Oracle 11g Weblogic Server. I have jsp files which contains sql code embedded to fetch data from the DB. The components used in this application are Java, JSP, Servlets and Stateless session beans.
I have a commonjar which is used to create DB Connection manager and other common stuff which is present inside web-inf/lib. My application is packaged as an ear and which contains the war and different ejb-project.jar files. When the Stateless bean is trying to call the ConnectionManager class, which is present inside the commonjar inside web-inf/lib, I get InvocationTargetException. When I debugged in Eclipse, I see that that inside ejb the reference ConnectionManager, the variable cannot be resolved. So I guess at runtime, ejb is not able to locate ConnectionManager Class.
I tried to copy this jar to APP-INF/lib and the same jar is present inside web-inf/lib as well. In that case what happens is the jsp fails with the exception ConnectionManager cannot be resolved.
How can I make the ejb work by keeping the commonjar inside web-inf/lib alone.
Any help or suggestions?
Thanks
RajThe classloader hierarchy in WLS looks like this (arrows denote inheritance direction):
Java bootstrap classloader <- Java CLASSPATH classloader <- WLS $DOMAIN_HOME/lib classloader <- Application (e.g., EAR) classloader <- web app classloader <- single JSP classloader
The Connection Manager is loaded by the web app classloader while the EJBs are loaded by the application classloader so the EJBs have no visibility to the classes loaded by the child (web app) classloader.
The simplest fix might be to move the Connection Manager jar file to the EAR file's APP-INF/lib directory.
One word of caution though, you need to be using WebLogic Server's Data Sources and JDBC connection pooling to make sure that you correct transactional behavior if the application is doing any sort of JTA transaction (regardless of whether the JTA transactions are using XA or not...).
Hope this helps,
Robert
