Dial-up dropping.

My brother has a Toshiba laptop that he uses Verizon dial-up service with. It will drop connection, will not connect, and pauses, the Vista connection Icon will change from Local and Internet connection to local connection and some times back to local and internet with out redialing, and even the icon for network connection "X" ed goes out on some disconnects.. No connection. He lives about 6 miles from DSL service.
NOW he comes to my house, same thing. DSL on his computer works fine BUT my Compaq laptop does the same thing with dial up. Both houses.  Both computers run Windows Vista. I use McAfee antivirus, he runs McAfee Secuirty Center. I run P.C. Tools Spyware Doctor. Both of our houses have Verizon phone service.
I retired from IT support 2 years ago, but I went and did what the dial-up tech support guy wanted. Several times. After almost  hours with every getting worse, as it would not connect, or would not use his ID and password. New password, no change. I was told to call Toshiba tech support. That was Friday.. I removed all the modem software and installed it today. It will now connect, but with the same connection problems. Same drops.
It happens with both Laptops at both houses. He has dial-up for 2 years, I have used dial up with my notebook at my old ISP so I know it works. A spike could not do this as I use DSL, and phone surge protection with my old ISP and here...
Anyone?

What is the brand and model of that dial-up modem?

  • SIP Dial Rule ATA187

    Hi Guys
I have a problem. I´m trying to configure a SIP Dial Rule in the CUCM 8.6 , using an ATA187, but no works.
    Here, with and without PLAR.
    Any idea?
    TIA
    Cristian

    Hi Robert
    I performed the following steps:
Step 1 Create a partition, for example, P1, and a calling search space, for example CSS1, so CSS1 contains P1. (In Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration, choose Call Routing > Class of Control > Partition or Calling Search Space.)
Step 2 Create a null (blank) translation pattern, for example, TP1, which contains calling search space CSS1 and partition P1. In this null (blank) pattern, make sure that you enter the directory number for the B1 PLAR destination in the Called Party Transformation Mask field. (In Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration, choose Call Routing > Translation Pattern.)
Step 3 Assign the calling search space, CS1, to either A or A'. (In Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration, choose Device > Phone.)
Step 4 Assign the P1 partition to the directory number for B1, which is the PLAR destination. (In Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration, choose Call Routing > Directory Number.)
Step 5 For phones that are running SIP, create a SIP dial rule. (In Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration, choose Call Routing > Dial Rules > SIP Dial Rules. Choose 7940_7960_OTHER. Enter a name for the pattern; for example, PLAR1. Click Save; then, click Add Plar. Click Save.)
Step 6 For phones that are running SIP, assign the SIP dial rule configuration that you created for PLAR to the phones, which, in this example, are A and A'. ((In Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration, choose Device > Phone. Choose the SIP dial rule configuration from the SIP Dial Rules drop-down list box.)
    But not works
    TIA

  • CAN REIN CAUSE CRCS WITHOUT LOSS OF SNR

Im trying to get my head round the problem im having, completly random at all times of day and night crcs will start building up in theres 100,s sometimes 1000,s every 5 second which is stopping my throughput completly, but my snr will stay at 6db, if i force adsl2 instead of adsl2+ the errors sometimes go away and stay away, but untill recently crcs have started also on adsl2, i have to force an even lower sync to stop them, i end up with about 7meg sync rate just to get some throughput, what i cant understand is the random part of it, sometimes ai can sync at 13meg and get no crcs at all, if it was rein then why doesnt the snr fluctuate with it?, line attenuation with bts equipment is 24db, my router says its 27db though(router as been changed), so distance isnt that bad, most of you know ive had problems which have not been resolved from day one on this thread, bt have tried loads of things, swapping dside and e side(i think thats th right letters), i did however shoot up to 16meg on the first line swap, but they came out again and i think they swapped me back to the original, because, even though the sync was higher, the problem was still there, dont know why they swapped me back or swapped to another, they said that line that synced at 16meg was bad quality(hmm, ive never synced that high after a reset), anyone have any ideas what is happeneing?.

Sorry, i didnt think it was needed, as ive had 2 line swaps now, but i can say that there used to be a kind of phone ring noise but in static untill the line was changed, but my problem never went away anyway, and as of noe there is no noise on silent line test, even when the crcs are building up. Heres my router stats , note the crcs are from the last time it happened and it actually clocked the router and started at 0 again, also if anyone knows if ipv6 works on bt? if so how to configure?,as i said this is a new router and reports my snr as 29db, other router is 27db.

  • Drag drop and dial up

Has anyone tried using drag and drop with a dial up system? I
am just curious if it works. My hunch is it will but a member of
our project team had raised this question.
    :

It doesn't matter. Once any given slide is loaded for the
    user to see,
that slide is 'local' - not running from the server. In fact,
    the entire
published file (.swf) is ultimately loaded to the user's
    computer cache
and run from there. Any slide they're viewing will be running
    locally,
not from the server. So once they see the D'n'D exercise, it
    is local.
Any 'lag' would be due to the computer's processing not the
    dialup
    connection.
The only slowness related to the dialup connection is how
    long it takes
for a given slide to appear to the user. But once it appears
    and can be
    interacted with, it's local.

  • Internet speed dropped to dial-up speed!

*(It took me about 15mins to get to this page)*
There seems to be something wrong with my Mac when i opened it up today; the internet speed has dropped right down to below dial up speed, yet all the other computers in the house are running fine at broadband speed.
    Hope you can help!
    Thankyou very much in advance!

The following usually works on both Tiger and Leopard:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values
    download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.
If not, MacFixit have published a very detailed (very!) article on speeding up a slow Safari, here:
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070416000657464
Many, including me, have also followed the advice given by others here to add DNS codes to their Network Settings, with good results in terms of speed-up:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.220
    208.67.220.222
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    Restart Safari, and repair permissions.

  • Dial tone continues after call is answered then call drops after 1 minutes

This morning I have had problems with calling skype contacts.  After I initiate the call the person on the other end picks up but the dail tone is still in the background.  After a minute or so the dial tone go to busy and the entire call drops.

I downloaded new version of Skype and it works. Strange that it didn't auto update since 6.21 even thought auto update was on. Now it is 6.22.

  • 3G, high signal drops as soon as my phone dials a number - what's up with that?

While keeping my phone in the same place all week - sitting on my desk or in my hand while I am sitting at my desk, my signal strength constantly varies from no signal or one bar, to 3G with three bars. It goes back and forth every few minutes. Sometimes it keeps a strong signal for a while before inexplicably dropping down. However, if I ever try to make a call, the moment the phone starts dialing, the signal now always drops down to one bar, no 3G. This has been going on for a few days now. Anyone else experience this? Anyone have any idea what might be going on? Does your signal strength stay the same when your phone is dialing a call (not to mention once you are connected as well of course)?
My signal strength sometimes looks good, but always drops down to one bar when the phone starts dialing. Now I can only talk on one bar - not a very good connection, but as soon as I hang up the call, my signal strength indicator goes back up to a few bars, usually with 3G. Anyone have any guesses what might be going on here?

    To "TheInsider":
When you ask, "Are you guys addressing the issue?" you need to know that posts on this forum have no impact on Verizon or Motorola tech support. As far as I can tell and have been told, Tech support do not base any of their decisions on forum postings. They do, however, base decisions on problems documented by calls to tech support from a line other than your mobile phone number, in which you follow all of the instructions of the tech people. If you follow all of their instructions and the problem is not fixed, they might make a small note of it. If they receive enough such calls/documentation/notes, then they might escalate the problem to higher levels of tech support with more important people (and the more calls/documented problems, the more people) checking out the problem.
In order to get Verizon TECH SUPPORT "to care" you need to do something like many people did with the volume problem. There are many, many droid and android forums on the internet. Join them, make relevant posts, organize reports of the problem with other people who have the problem, and get as many people as possible who have the problem to call it in properly to tech support. Many people kept doing this with the volume problem, and eventually enough people had documented the unresolved problem with Verizon tech support, and enough websites and even newspapers started reporting the problem, that Verizon and Motorola now (after weeks of denying any such problem) officially acknowledge the problem and claim (along with Motorola), that they are working on a firmware update that will fix or improve the problem.
My phone does the same thing that you describe, but only from my home in a very rural area with poor reception. In more populated areas with more cell towers (or whatever they are called), my voice calls are perfectly clear. At home, however, as soon as I dial, my number of bars drops to 0 or 1, and as soon as I hang up my number of bars goes up to 2, 3, or 4 (and, I think, a 3G indicator). So I presume that there is decent 3G/data coverage in the rual area where I live, but for whatever reason there is poor voice coverage where I live (and the voice quality at home is poor, in contrast to more populated areas, where it is excellent). Have you noticed whether the problem you describe changes depending on the area in which you are using the phone as I did?

  • Is there a problem with FaceTime, can not connect. When dial it connects and drops. When friends are calling me they have calling message and I have connecting but it does not connect. Need help, face time is my life line.

Face time not working. When dialled it says connecting and drops immediately. When my friends calling it show connecting but it does not.
Is there a problem with face time. I am in south Africa, it was working perfectly up to Easter. Please help this is my life line.

There is a barely acknowledged issue. For Mac users Apple has released an update to the app, but for iOS users the recommendation is for users to update their ipad to the most recent operating system.
There may be a fix coming for iOS6 users (which seem to be many of those having problems) or there may not be. If your ipad isn't up to date then you can update it and see if that helps, or if you don't want to update then you may want to wait and see if there is either a fix or if it fixes itself.

  • Voice Dialing and navigating in the following drop...

My new 6600 fold drives me mad! How can I navigate through the diiferent numbers/contacts when I use voice dialing via headset? The idea is: press the button on my headset, then talk a contacts name e.g. "Peter" (with or without thumbs in the nose). The phone recognizes my speech as "Peter" (with luck) and shows:
    1. a list with contacts who has "Peter" as name/first name (depending on what list format i use - why can the pone not shows both like in my "old" Nokia 9300?) and THEN?
    or
    2. a single contact and dial his number. But WHAT if this contact has more numbers?
Solution: Take the phone out of the pocket, unfold it and navigate with the keys through the contacts/numbers? THAT I did not have in mind when I want to call somebody via headset. Is there an undocumented set of voice commands to navigate throug the menu? The manual is not really helpful for that.
As workaround you can for case 1 say the complete name e.g. "Peter Tschaikowski" and talk a little bit more in a robotic voice for a better understanding (like i read in other posts here).. OK, this might work.
In case number 2 I start to select one number as "standard" number who will select when the name is clear. But that is nit really helpfull if you want to talk to your mum/boss/girlfriend with a different number when driving a car. in my country it is not allowed to use the phone without headset in the car. For me it will be a expensive pleasure to use my 6600 fold while driving.....

  • BB dropping to dial up speeds.

I had infinity 2 installed about 2 months ago, after the first week I lost my phone line for 3 weeks, still waiting for compensation. Since getting the line back my BB keeps dropping to 0.09 / 0.00 every few hours. I have had a new hub sent out and hasn't made a difference and to be honest I'm tired of ringing India Telecom and them telling me to restart my router. Is there a way to get out of my contact?

    Hi Soupy1985,

    So what's broken??
    1) My wiring is Test socket (out of master socket) to BT Filter and then out to phone and HH4
    2) I've disconnected, pulled apart, switched off, and put back together again all computer/hub/phone connections
    3) Phone appears fine, no particular noise on the line.
Feels like not my end except the wife can be a bit heavy handed when doing today's weekly vacuum cleaning.
Needless to say it's pretty difficult and unpleasurable to use the internet at these dial-up speeds.

Connection speed better and high noise margin giving scope for a further speed increase.  Any exchange problems shown http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/mso.php

  • Dial-up is dropped after about 15 successful events... but for no reason.

My G5 is consistent in alerting me that the modem "cannot be found" even though I had at least 15 successful connections previously. Then it lets me know that "system preferences" changed the setting even though I had it locked. What is going on here?
How can I make the G5 accept my dial-up permanently?
    Thanks

See if the DVD will boot another Mac.
If don't have another Mac you can try one at the Apple store.
That will you if the problem is the DVD or your Mac.

Just got my Droidx cell phone and at first loved it,but now getting frustrated.  Quick 1-2 minute calls are ok anything longer and it is dropping the calls.  Also periodically the screen freezes.  Now last night it called a friend 30 times during the night, I hadn't called her so not sure why it picked her number.  Any thoughts would be helpful.... I can't have a phone that is going drop calls and randomly call my contacts.
    PLEASE HELP!

Good Afternoon rxpertmed. I know it can be frustrating when your device is not performing well.
Is your software up to date on your Droid 2 Global? The latest version is: 4.5.629.A956.Verizon.en.US.

  • Problems with dropped calls and no reception on Samsung Continuum

My mother and I both purchased a Samsung Continuum in late March 2011, and have experienced the same problems with the phone.  The device drops at least 2-3 calls per day, often on the same conversation; we have not found that location or time of day makes a difference.  The phone freezes up frequently, even if no apps are running in the background.  We lose our 3G network reception frequently, and cannot access our texts, emails, or the internet.  The screen saver kicks in even when we are actively dialing a number, or typing in a text message.  The overall performance of the phone is also poor, and it is quite slow much of the time.
We have raised this issue several times with a representative at one of the Verizon stores, but he states that he can find no problem with the phone, and that these issues may not be covered under our insurance plan.  None of my friends with non-Samsung phones are having the same problems with phone reception and performance.  I am aggravated enough with these issues that I am considering reactivating my old Blackberry, which worked like a charm.
I am not upset that my phone has not been updated to Android 2.2.  I just want the phone to perform as stated, and not fail at its primary function:  making and receiving phone calls.  I am not certain if these problems originate with the phone, Verizon, or Samsung, nor do I care.  I just want to resolve these issues as soon as possible, or I will have to look at other alternatives.
    Thank you.

If this doesn't work...now what??? I have a useless $400 plus piece of unreliable junk. My Motorola Razor was ions more reliable than this phone...very, very sad but true.
What carrier were you using with the Razor? AT&T? Same area?

Not sure where to look first to check why my computer is so slow - both using the Internet (Firefox) and the programs. Is there a series of steps to follow before I start messing around with it? Thanks.
