Dial-up friendly upgrade

This might sound like a ridiculous request, but the current location I reside at only offers dial up (too far out in the middle of no where to get DSL). So when I attempt any large download (new ipod touch upgrade being 165mb) it usually times out around 132mb and I lose everything. Even tho Itunes says I have the opportunity to "PAUSE" the download, that apparently means stop everything and start over in Apple's eyes.
Is there any other way of obtaining this download, through wi-fi or anything? I know the whole install itunes on someone else's computer, but thats a bit of a hassle.

As long as I have the chance to resume download when it times out, I'll be fine. It's through Itunes when its all or nothing where I have a problem

Dial-up connection upgrade

Is there a way to upgrade itunes + QT via a disk (cd)? The dial up connection is always dropped.

One thing that might help.
if you have a friend or know someone that has a high speed connection, try having them download the itunes and save to the desktop.
Once it is saved to the desktop, you can burn this file to a cd or put in on a flash memory drive. Also, if you have an ipod that you can enable disk mode on, you can move the file that way.
Then on your computer, move the file to the desk top.
Then double click to install.

I have received my first mac from a designer friend who passed away recently. He had been having problems with crashing in Lion. His friend upgraded to Mountain Lion before his mac pro laptop, mid 2010, was sent to me. It has many problems and crashes

After sorting the material of my friends on the drive and creating a new user, I realized that the system was unusable with 30 or 40 crashes a day. I am a photoshop user and my friend had installed cs2 and upgraded to cs5. Actually everything was crashing and he had had the problems in Lion and they did not go away in Mountain Lion.
So my sense is the next best step is to uninstall and reinstall the operating system....but I'm entirely new to Mac though I quite good at problem solving on PC. I have been messing around trying to get Mac up for over a week now so am learning quickly but feel uncertain about the steps in installation and don't want to mess things further.

I'm backing everything now to a usb drive, I have one copy in timemachine, but I need a clean install so I'm backing things manually as it's not so complicated my being a new user.
I have the original discs of Snow Leopard and a dmg file of Mountain Lion that were installed on this computer.
I hope I can find my friends Adobe id and password.....he does have a list of passwords, how can I check if they are correct.
Do I need to install Snow leopard from the original disks first and then update and then upgrade to Mountain Lion?
He upgraded first to Lion but I can't find that program to install, do I need it to get to Mountain Lion?
I don't have boot disks, does that matter?
What can I do about CS5 in a restore? I don't mind loosing other programs so much as this one.....I haven't seen the upgrades and only have CS2. What happens to all your programs...I guess they are just lost?
I haven't used mail, so I'm not worried about that.

Yes, when the operating system was upgraded to 10.7 then to 10.8, it 10.6 was replaced so those 10.6 disks are only good now for completely erasing the entire drive and reverting the machine back to 10.6
10.7 and 10.8 has a Recovery HD partiton on the boot drive.

I have a mountain lion dmg file that was used to upgrade from Lion, would double clicking on this equal the same thing as reinstalling mountain lion over itself?
I wouldn't use this, as Apple is now changing things, so you need to reinstall 10.8 via the Recovery HD

Not going to happen, if it's working now good for you. But according to Roaring Apps it's not working for 10.8. and it needs to be upgraded to CS6
If you revert the machine to 10.6 or 10.7, your going to erase CS5 and everything else.
Doing #20 would be a bit beyond me and I don't know another mac user so that I can work from their mac.
Why do you need another Mac users machine?

No, you erase and install 10.8
When Apple upgrades 10.6 to 10.7 then to 10.8, it's a complete operating system replacement, it's called a upgrade because it's still OS X but leaves all your files and most programs intact, none of the older operating system version remains.
Just like if you would upgrade Vista to Windows 7, or Windows 7 to Windows 7 Pro.

Yes, but it requires erasing the entire drive (including 10.8 Recovery HD) from the 10.6 disks, then installing 10.6, then Software Updating to 10.6.8, then buying 10.8 from the AppStore, then downloading it and installing it, then the machine will be 10.8
Or you can use the Recovery HD and just erase the Macintosh HD parittion then reinstall 10.8 that way for free.

See what is confusing you is there is a hidden Recovery HD partition on the boot drive, it can do all the things like a OS X install disk can do, erase the Macintosh HD partiton (where OS X, programs and files are) and install a new copy of OSX from Apple's servers so it reboots to a brand new machine again (no Cs5 though)
Instead of a boot disk, there is a two bootable partitions on the boot drive, one is Recovery HD and the other is Macintosh HD which boots into OS X.
SO your command r booting the operating system in Recovery HD to erase the other partition and reinstall OS X into from Apple's servers, got it.?
Your going to need your AppleID and password to reinstall OS X 10.8, all part of the new world order.

My friend upgraded his phone last night from an older version of the Samsung galaxy to the Samsung s4 galaxy. I'm an iphone user and now he can't receive any of my text messages. HELP!

So last night my boyfriend upgraded his old Samsung galaxy to the Samsung Galaxy s4. He was able to receive a few of my text messages, but then they randomly started saying "not delivered." I turned on and turned off my phone, and tried the turning off and on imessage and facetime but nothing has worked and I still can't text him. I am receiving his messages just fine, I just can't send any to him. I looked onlne at Apple Support for help but I noticed a majority of the problems were coming from people that switched from iphone to an android, but he has always had an android and I've been using the same iphone 4s the whole time. It is really bugging me, so any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Can I use a friends upgrade for myself?

I have an iPhone 4S and I want the iPhone 5. I cannot get a new phone for a year now and I want to know if I found a good "loop hole" or not in Verizon's upgrade program.
My plan is this:
Sell my iPhone 4S 32 GB for about $300 on eBay.
On my friends Verizon Wireless account, he will use his own upgrade on Apple.com and pay for the iPhone 5 with the money I give him.
The iPhone will get delivered at his house (in about a month ) and he will just give it to me still unopened in the box.
I will open it, power it on, and call *228 and press "2" on the keyboard and activate it with MY Verizon account even though it's on his line. Now it will use my data, my number, my bill, etc...
Will this work the way I want it to? If so, will it change my bill due to LTE?
One more thing: when it first gets powered on straight out of the box, will it already be linked to HIS number or will it not be linked to any number at all (meaning it can't be used for calls, text, 3G/LTE)?

You would need to get a new SIM card and don't do *228 it will hurt the phone. You would have to brin he phone to the store to get a new SIM card.
If you do the software update you will get a lot of what the iPhone 5 has and maybe you could keep your phone untill 20 months is up. If you get a phone from another account you might not be able to put insurance on it.

When my friend upgraded to ios7 on her ipad and iPhone, she ended up with 60,000 emails that she can't get rid other!

Try a reset ..
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
See if that makes a difference ..

A friend upgraded my flash player and now nothing will work.

I am completely computer stupid. My friend said that my flash player needed to be upgraded. He upgraded it for me and now nothing will work. Youtube, games, etc. Can someone help me fix it. Like I said I am computer stupid so I will need step by step instructions if anyone can help.

Advice for Friend - upgrading his mac, etc

Hey what's up guys? My friend has a dual-1ghz G4 mirrored door mac. Right now he's running Protools (through the Mbox) and Reason. He just ordered NI - Kore & Komplete. He wants a more powerful mac (leaning towards laptop) and Logic Pro.
What do you think he should do regarding the computer situation? He doesn't have unlimited funds fyi (the NI stuff was at a student discount and special offer or something)

He could get an iMac as an alternative to one of the
laptops. Unfortunately none of the NI stuff has been
ported for intel yet, looks like it will be at least
the fall before they ship anything.
I think the MB's are pretty appealing for the price,
for someone on a budget going up to the Pro doesn't
get you that much more.
ah he didnt know that NI wouldnt work on an Intel yet. maybe he should hold off on a new computer. unless he could use a laptop as a node to his G4? is that possible?

User friendly upgrading

As our office is upgrading en masse from CS3 to CS4, I'm hearing frequent complaints about first finding, then copying, all various presets files from CS3 to '4. As has been discussed a few times, not all presets can be copied. And if I remember correctly, hardly any at all work. And the only way to find out is by trying.
Since we're talking about an official upgrade path here -- no fresh installations --, one could imagine a dialog asking for "Presets to copy", with a list of checkboxes for each of document presets, keyboard shortcuts, printing and exporting presets, scripts, default settings, preflight profiles, and whatnot.
What, I hear you say: "Oh, but you cannot just copy old settings, as things might have changed"? Well, (a) the programmers at Adobe know the internal format of each of the presets files, and (b) they know what changed.

I'm not sure what you've been reading, but as far as I know, while you can't copy prefs, you can save all the presets from the define dialogs and reload into CS4. I haven't yet found any that don't work, but it's possible I'm not using all the variables. You can reload any default swatches or styles you need from another document. Workspaces, however, will not transfer, but that's no big surprise considering the massive differences in the interface.
Of course, having a script to run would be nice.

Dialing issue after upgrade

The phone has now ver 4.4.4 of android. After an update (I do not remember the exact number) the phone started to behave weird when placing a call. Randomly, it you select a contact and make a call, the phone aplication goes away and nohing happens. By pressing the call button again, the phone application opens and places the call. Later I noticed that the phone application stays in the background, but the call is not made until you click on the application to pull upfront. The behaviour is more anynoying when dialing a number directly, it simply deletes the number and the call is not made, you have to enter the number again, hoping this time the call will be completed. I though that new versions would address this situation, but stilld oing the same, even I had installed others dialers applications, all of them had the same problem.

HT1222 Can't disable voice-dialing anymore since upgrade to iOS 7.1

I need to be able to disable voice-dialling on my iPhone4. I keep accidentally calling random contacts while using voice commands to control music on my motorcycle bluetooth headset. If this isn't fixed in the next "upgrade", I will be forced to change to an android phone. NOT HAPPY
iOS 6 worked great on my phone. Wish I had never upgraded to iOS 7, let alone 7.1.

I have a Zagg KB and it works well.
First reset the iPad by holding the home and power keys down until the Apple logo appears (15-20 seconds).
Be sure (stating the obvious) Bluetooth is turned on. Turn the Zagg KB on...it should start to hunt for the wireless network. Press the connect button on the Zagg KB - the red light should begin to blink. On the iPad (settings>Bluetooth) click on the Zagg.

My friend upgraded to a touch and in turn gave me her old classic. She put a whole bunch of music on there from different cd's but after seeing what she still had on it she realized she lost some of those songs on her computer. I tried to get them off with the transfering puchased music, but they won't come off! She bought this music fair in square and would like to have them back. How in the world do i get them back to her?

The music sync is one way - computer to ipod. The exception is itunes purchases.
As the songs came from her computer in the first place, so they should still be there and should be included in her regular backup copy of her computer.
You need to restore the ipod, erasing all of the music as you have no legal right to it.

Worried upgrading OSX Mountain Lion 10.8 because of...

Hi to All!
I'm already a MBP user for 1 year and since then I didn't upgrade my OSX. I'am worried because the time I bought my MBP one of my friend upgrade the OSX to 10.8 by using his usb thumb drive I didn't have the chance to asked hm if that is pirated or good because of excitement , I want to ask him these days but unfortunately he is unable to contact.
So my question is... is it safe to update my OSX 10.8 to 10.8.4 (latest version) thru App Store by clicking the update button? because I am just thinking if my friend update my OSX using pirated or not good stuff I'am worried that Apple might block my MBP or something and if that so I might stay on this version for good, I would like to buy the 10.8 before if I it is required in order to stay legal.

Yes, it's safe. Do this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Download and install 10.8.4 Mountain Lion Update v10.8.4 (Combo).

Photoshop CS faults after upgrade to iPhoto 6

This may be off topic, but I am not finding relevant info elsewhere. I hope someone here can point me in the right direction.
An artist friend upgraded to iPhoto 6 recently. Since then she has problems with EPS files created in Photoshop CS when saving them as jpg. She uses an iMac G5 running osx 10.4.8.
The file appears to save but when viewed in Preview or sent in an email, the image background is all black and the drawing lines are odd colors, all muted.

Can you describe the process by which the file is converted from eps to a jpg with PS and then saved? What color mode was it in to start and at the completion. Is she embedding a color profile in the jpg when it's saved? Will it open in Safari OK?
I use PS but not with esp files so if you can walk me thru it I'll see what I can do.

I recently helped a friend upgrade from OSX 10.6 to Mavericks. Everything went smoothly until we went to log her in to some of sites like her email or Facebook.
When she tried to log onto Facebook, my login information autofilled.
I've never entered any of my information onto her computer and I can't figure out why that would be happening. My only guess is that my computer was on the same network at the time were setting hers up.
Does that make sense?
I'm guessing resetting the keychain might work but she's a client so i don't want to get this wrong.
Any help in the right direction would be really helpful.
