Dial up modem problems when notebook is docked.

When my ProBook 6470b is in its docking station (Part no. VB041AA#ABA), the notebook's internal, dial-up modem, can't be used. In order to use the dial-modem, I must shut down the computer, dismount it from the docking station, turn it on, log in, and then restart it and log in again.  This is most inconvenient and no one in my company's tech support center understands this issue.

Hi, Does your docking station have a phone jack ? Please use it - I have to do the same with my Dell, when I want to use LAN cable I have to connect to the dock, not to the laptop. Regards.

  • Presentation Director - "When notebook is docked" Grayed Out

I have an X61 and the option in Presentation Director that says "When notebook is docked" it completely grayed out.  I've tried everything to enable this option, but no luck.  Does anyone know how to fix this?

Ok, I'm sorry to post this question again, but it's driving me crazy!  In Presentation Director, there is an option that says "When notebook is docked, Immediately apply this display scheme."  However, on my X61, this option is grayed out.  I've tried everything to fix this, but no luck.  It drives me crazy because I want it to automatically display on my external monitor when I dock it rather than having to fuss with it to get it to work.  Does anyone know how to make this option work?

  • Click wheel problems when plugged into dock connector

I just got my 80gb yesterday. I'm having problems with the click wheel. I have an adapter that plugs into my car stereo through the dock connector and also a Bose docking station. With my old 4th Gen iPod, I could use the click wheel to scroll through the menus while it was plugged in.
With my new 80gb classic, it has trouble scrolling when plugged into the dock connector. Is anyone else having this problem?

Similar thing is happening with mine, except the other day my boyfriend dropped it into a cup of beer... it worked fine right away but then when I tried to use it again a few hours later it wouldn't turn on. When it's plugged into my speaker dock, it lights up and first just shows a gray screen with an apple but I can reset it and then it works fine, plays music, etc... but when I take it out of the dock the screen freezes up with these horizontal lines on it. I figured it must be battery related too but not sure.
Sorry this is really unhelpful, I just wanted to commiserate and see if anyone comes up with an answer for you...

  • Firefox 5.0; how do I get it to connect to Internet via dial-up modem?

Firefox 5.0 does not trigger dial up modem access when the program starts. I cannot find any way to get on line except to open another program such as IE that does the dial up, then switch to Firefox. I can find nowhere in tools to tell it to access dial up internet connection.

Your original had tabs on top, the current one does not. Also I note a dark background, is that some none default theme or persona, or a side effect of system display changes ?
I have noted others comment about pages needing zooming, no idea why that happens on some sytems, possibly something to do with the font changes.
I do not notice much difference between versions screenshot attached Firefox 4 and Firefox 6.0a2 open adjacent to each other.

  • Hi,I am unsure if I have a safari or modem problem. It only happens when I use my macbook pro, my HP windows is fine. Internet crashes on modem and then a message that safari is not connected. I don't know where to start sorry I am not technical at all.

Hi there, my internet is crashing everytime I use my macbook pro/safari it happens roughly every 2 mins, it can happen on any website.
I am not technical at all and I am at a total loss of where to start with this. I did a bit of research on the internet but no luck in finding any
    help.
Basically I am not sure if it is a modem of safari problem. I have no problems when using my HP on without windows explorer on the internet.
I am working wireless ADSL 2 - Bigpond - 2 Wire 2701 HGV-W and a macbook pro purchased around 5 months ago. Since the purchase date
I have had problems with internet.
Safari brings up a page you are not connected to the internet. I then look at the modem and DSL and internet lights are both flickering and or/off.
They then re-set themselves. I then have to re-set preferences on safari and quit and restart.
I have also tried using with cable into mac and modem and no difference.
I can only figure that maybe Safari is not compatible with the modem? could this be the case?
Thanks for reading and any assistance would be appreciated.

There's an Apple help page on the DNS problem - at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3408
The first thing to try is changing your DNS settings - and for that you need to open System Preferences, then the
    Network section.
In Network - click  on Advanced - then the DNS tab
under DNS servers - use the + button to enter two extra lines
    either these, from google dns
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4
    or from OpenDNS
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
then click OK & then 'Apply'
You would need to do that seperately for the Cable (Ethernet) settings and Wireless (Airport)

  • Problem when start lightroom 6 on my windows 8.1 notebook

I have a problem when start lightroom 6 on my windows 8.1 notebook, the system says "impossible find input point in _crtCreateSymbolicLinkW in C:\windows\system32\msvcp110.dll", and lightroom 6 terminate. I disinstalled and reinstalled many times but I have always the same error. What is the problem? Thank for the answers.

Download update 4 for Intel x64 or Amd if your notebook have an Amd CPU of Visual studio 2012 and trya again. Before you can controll if the installer install library of visual studio 12 during installation and see if the library missing is on windows\system32.

At least I'm not the only one with the issue. I was looking it up so see if others had the same problem and found a bunch of posts about it. I'm assuming it's not the phone then, it's the software. Should I bring it to the Apple Store? Replacing the phone seems stupid, because the phone isn't really the problem. It's the software! Maybe the iOS 5.0.2 will fix it???  I don't really want to wait though, it's a pain. If a lot of people have this issue it should get Apple's attention. They need to do something to fix it, ASAP!

  • 600 and 600e modem problem, and BIOS update

I hope I can find the answers to my 600 and 600e problems here. I've looked over the whole community and can't find the answer to my problems.
BIOS Problem:  For some reason I can't update the bios on either machine. I am upgrading from 98 to 2000. I believe I need spsdib54 as a BIOS update. I find IBM laptops rather difficult to update. I have worked on a few computers in my day, but never IBM until now, and the learning curve is hell. I have a floppy drive but can't get the laptop to allow the spsdib54 file to open. I get a remove media message and then hit any key to continue. I'm lost here.and theIBM instructions are no help
MODEM Problem. I am trying to use AOL dialup. I install 2000, and can test my modem on both machines. I install AOL with no problems. Both laptops will dial out and get the correct Phone numbers. When I let AOL use smart connect and try to proceed, I loose all modem activity, and can't get it back even with the Modem upgrade which I have done. ....help

    I. Create a System Program Service Diskette:
Download spsdib54.exe (TP 600E: spsdih47.exe or spsdin36.exe - find out here) to your desktop.
Insert a high density floppy disk into the diskette drive.
Double-click the downloaded exe and follow the instructions on the screen.
II. Follow the "Installation Instructions" in spsdib54.txt to update the BIOS:
    Installation Instructions
Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update
                  the system program.
                - If your computer is attached to any kinds of Docking station
or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it
                  before proceeding.
                - Make sure the SPSD diskette is write protected.
    1.  Print these instructions or display on another computer.
    2.  Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
    3.  Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive
         and turn on the computer.
    4.  Select Read this first from the menu and carefully read the
         information that appears.
    5.  Press the Esc key to return to the menu.
    6.  Select Update system program and follow the instruction on
         the screen.
Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update
has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE
COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE
SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED.
After the update has been completed, do the following to make the
    changes effective.
    7.   Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from
the diskette drive, then turn off the computer.
    8.   Press and hold the F1 key, then turn on the computer. Hold the F1
key until the Easy-Setup menu appears.
    9.   If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
    10. Select Config, then select Initialize.
    11. Select OK to initialize the system.
Run the diagnostics to make sure that the computer runs with no
    errors:
    12. Turn off the computer, press and hold the F1 key, then turn on
the computer. Hold the F1 key until the Easy-Setup menu appears.
    13. Select Test, then select Start to run all the basic tests.
Various test patterns will appear on the screen.
An OK will appear for each device that passes the test.
    14. Verify that OK appears for all of the devices tested.
    15. Press the Esc key to exit Test and turn off the computer.

  • Problem with laptop and docking station

    Hello.
We have two laptops with two docking station. Both laptops w/ docking have the same problem:
When the computer is turned off, and its still connected to the docking station, the fan in the computer start to run really fast. The fan goes on for a good while. This is making alot of noise, which can be annoying for the person using the office. When the computer is on, the fan runs at normal speed. If you disconnect the computer from the docking station, the fan stops immediately. Any ideas?

It is possible the notebook is not completing the shutdown in full when docked.
Make sure the BIOS is the most recent version.
Here is the most recent one to try should you need it.
Other than that, I am afraid I do not have much else for this. I did some research, but I didn't really find anything that was exactly like this. I found scenarios where the fan would run at full speed when docked, but this happened whether the notebook was booted or not. You can try your luck in the business support forums to see if they may have something that is a little more helpful.

  • Can't create a dial up modem connection

    hi...
    need help here.
i have lenovo 3000 notebook V200 series with build in conexant modem, i have installed the modem driver correctly, i have query the modem and it shows the result successfully. but why does vista doesn't detect the modem when i'm trying to create a dial up modem connection ?. i also use the wireless 3G modem provided by AT&T. can anyone help me ? thank you...
    sincerely
    arifin

what do you mean? you can't create dial connection or you dont heard dial tone when you try to connect? Did you see under hardware devices. Does it show moderm at all? Try to hook up phone line to it and listen to dial tone? if It does. It would work fine. or you can upgrade moderm driver to see if you can create connection again.
    Good luck to you

  • My dial up modem

my dial up modem isn't connecting on my iMac. when it starts connecting it then starts disconnecting it will say this for ages, then i have to restart. i know it isnt something to do with the ISP as i can still connect on my pc. is it a hardware or sortware prob? i think the port won't open!

same issue here. I just posted a message about my problems with my G5 since July. I was told to re-install the discs that came with it and it DOWNGRADED my OS from 10.3.9 to a 10.3.5 and my ISP software is now corrupted. I have a new modem coming and my Imac is less than a year old. So far(since July) I have had the logic board replaced twice, the power supply, hard drive and bluetooth keyboard replaced. I hope you have the Apple care protection.

  • Dial-up modem and power cord wont coexist

I cant use my internal dial-up modem, and stay connected, when I have my power cord connected. Is there anything I can do, or is it simply bad design??

    Hi Orpheus,
Welcome to the Apple.com discussion boards. I'm not quite clear what you're saying here.. are you saying:
    1) The plugs physically don't fit in at the same time? or
    2) When you plug in the Power, the dialup session disconnects?
If you mean 1), I suggest you get a new phone cable, as I have never had any problems like that. If you mean 2), again, I'd suggest a new phone cable. There may be some electromagnetic interferance.
