Dial-up Wifi Broadband

I use a dial-up wifi broadband. How do I use it's wifi on my Iphone ?

What is "dial-up wifi broadband"? That sounds like two oxymorons mixed together! If you have a WiFi network, you simply select it in Settings > Wi-Fi, and enter your password (if applicable).

  • Loss of phone line, no dial tone but broadband sti...

I have looged a fault with bt for this issue VOL012-*********, but no engineer turned up yesterday to look at it. I have tested 2 different phones in the master test socket and still have the same problem, no dial tone but broadband is working ok. How do BT get away with treating its customers like this?

@Scardy, this is exactly what happened to our phone line last September! The phone line was just mush, there was no dial tone, but we were able (just) to send email and look at certain web pages, but it was painfully slow. I tried everything, like you, no improvement. I got in touch with BT, they said there was a fault on the line, I said 'it's been fine for years why now?' BT sent an OR engineer, he turned up on time, it was a very enlightening time for me to be sure! He showed me the 'drop cable' that the phone signal came into our property on - 50 years old! Rubber outer, two strands of copper cable with cardboard insulation between them! I also found a big cut in the cable on the wall of our place, for the life of me that looked like vandalism. He arranged for a new armoured cable to be put in across our front lawn, and hey presto, all was well! With the confidence I had in that, we've got Infinity now, a new master socket and there's no going back. I hope this helps & it all gets sorted out out quickly for you.

Download the apps on your syncing computer and then sync to the iPod. Note that you can only sync apps for the one syncing computer you use with the iPod. You can manage music and videos among different computer.

  • Dial Up Speedesque Broadband

    Hello all..
I experienced issues with my Bt HomeHub3 where the internet would turn off (orange light) and then come back on for a very very short amount of time if I was lucky.. typical diagnoses then followed.. reset.. turn off for 10 or so seconds.. but still the issue remained. It remained for atleast a week.. I finally called BT and they at first tried palming me off with an egigneer but I don't think it's right I should pay for there problem.. It turns out there was a fault somewhere between me and the exchange box. This has now passed and my router has been on solid for atleast 5days for 24hours but my speed has yet to improve. I find it disgusting that BT will slow your connection down if they see faults within in it. I read somewhere it takes 10 days for them to then release what you should be getting.. Is there anyway I can cut a few corners.. and get someone to press a button here or there.. It is painfully slow to the point I just don't bother at present. I can't even get a reading for my connection speed as it times out as it's that slow.
It's problem after problem with BT.. If only I had a wider option for phone & broadband providers where I live.

Your slow speed is due to a high noise margin

  • Dial up wifi with only modem, router & iPad?

I just bought my mother (who lives in the middle of NOWHERE) an iPad. She has a hand-me-down/broken computer. Her only internet option within her budget is dial up. The service can supposedly only be accessed with a cd from msn. Is there another option? Could she use the old airport with modem built in? Does she (read I) need to buy a computer just to put out a signal for her iPad? Please help with any creative solutions.

Could she use the old airport with modem built in?
yes, if you can find one.
You'll need a computer to set it up though.

  • In a change from Dial-up to Broadband, can I upgrade Mozilla add ons on Foxfire 3.6.28 in 10.4.11 operating system so I can watch videos?

I have a Mac mentor who gave me an old iBook out of the kindness of her heart and I've enjoyed using it very much. I can't afford to buy a new laptop.
I just changed to Broadband so I can get faster reception and watch videos and listen to audios on the Net. I want to copy videos from Utube, but I don't get continuous reception, but only longer segments than before with a jerk in between. There is a notice in the upper right hand corner of the screen that asks me to upgrade plug ins, but I fear that my 10.4.11 operating system will not support the upgrade. Do I have to and can I upgrade my operating system on an old iBook that was conceived in the early stages of Mac laptops or can I just upgrade the plug ins that I have? I'm afraid to change what is there. Can someone help me do this myself without bothering my busy mentor with something that I ought to be able to do myself?

You can update Flash Player to 10.1.102.64, which is the last version that works on your system. This should be sufficient for most sites.

You can use the Video DownloadHelper add-on to save videos from sites like YouTube.

If that's the computer you used to ask the question, then no. It has a PowerPC processor. To run the latest version of Firefox, you need at least Mac OS X 10.6, which in turn requires an Intel processor ([http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575 see system requirements for Mac OS X 10.6]).
Note that your operating system, browser and plug-ins, all contain security vulnerabilities that put your computer at risk. You can switch your browser to TenFourFox, an up-to-date third-party build of Firefox that runs on Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5 on PPC processors. However, it doesn't support plug-ins (like Flash Player).

  • Wifi Broadband speedtest slow and inconsistent results?

    Hi,
I recently purchased an Iphone 3gs, but i seem to be having a problem with my wifi speeds. Iv downloaded the app Speedtest.net on my phone and a friends phone to compare speed results on my wifi network. He was able to recieve 3.3mb download speed were i was able to only recieve 0.6mb.so i tried various wifi combatible systems (ie. laptop etc) to see what speed they come up with and they recieve 3.3mb. so i came to the conclusion it must be the phone, went into CPW and they replaced it but the new phone is exactly the same does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?
    Many thanks

What model of router are you using? Do you have the same speed issue if you connect to someone else's WiFi network? Have you checked that your routers firmware is up to date? I assume that your WiFi network is encrypted, disable the encryption and then test to see if the speed improves - if it does then try a different form of encryption. Check to see if the wireless is set to only b or g and if so try changing to b & g for example.
Report back and we'll see if we can't find a solution

  • No dial tone, slow broadband which turns it's self off

Finally got round to getting a hand set as never bother with a house phone but due to changes in circumstances need it. However I have no dial tone at all tried all the steps and 3 different handsets. Really wish I had stayed with BT as never had any problems with them. Need this fixing ASAP any ideas. Or am I without a phone line until my contract is up and I can go back to BT?

You will need to report this directly to Sky so then can run some tests on your line and if needs be they in turn will report it to BT Openreach to fix.
If you have a mobile that has free inclusive minutes with your network provider then calls to Sky via the 03 number will be free as the 03 number Sky uses now is a local rate number so would be free like 01 numbers are if you have free calls time.
If you have a mobile you could also use the Sky Service App and request a call back to it.

  • My mac, running mavericks, has stopped recognising wifi devices, including time capsule and printer. Wifi Broadband still works. How do I fix this?

Just over a week ago I found my mac would not recognise my wifi printer and attempts to add it again have been fruitless. I then received notification from time machine that my backups to Time Capsule have failed. The last back-up was about the time the printer problem occured. It appears that the mac no longer recognises the wifi devices. I am not aware of any software updates at that time. Has anyone experienced this, and if so what is the fix? Thanks in advance

    Restart your router.
Then reset your Time Capsule > Resetting an AirPort base station
    Then restart your Mac.
See if that makes a difference.

  • I am going to be receiving wi fi broadband.  Can my timecapsule recieve this and still act as my normal base station or do I need a separate wifi access unit for the broadband?

I currently use ADSL ISP for  my broadband, connected to my time capsule via ethernet for wifi connection through the house and it is excellent.  I'm going to change to a wifi broadband ISP and would like to know whether the timecapsule can receive wifi from one source and rebroadcast to my normal house system.  If it can do this, how do I set it up.?

No it cannot work unless it is going to receive wireless from another apple router.

  • I need a doctor for broadband

I have no interest in music nor do I save more than a very modest collection of photos, thus I've been comfortable with running Panther on my PC3 600 MHz iBook. But recently, Comcast became available in my area and I do have a very large interest in shedding dial-up for broadband. I checked it out and was stunned to learn that Comcast requires a minimum of Tiger, Firefox 2 or Safari 2.
Have I got this right? Is it true I'll have to upgrade to 10.4? Is 10.4 worth the expenditure? Should I sell my wife's car and buy a MacBook or a set of tires for my car?

Well now, on this 15" with Panther, I have comcast working with an Apple Extreme WiFi as I type this. The 17" is hooked to it by ethernet. My daughter with her iBook sometimes comes over and uses it WiFi like I do with this one... she has Tiger. I have an old G3 in the den that has 10.1 and it can get on the 'high-speed' through the ethernet when I run the wire to it, the old Firefox is the browser, not the new one.
So, I would say that that requirement of comcast is false. (Except to be able to get to their web-site and pay your bill, or get web-mail... here you will need an up-to-date browser... I use Camino, it works wonderful with Panther)
Please note though that comcast does upgrades to their systems every so often and things change. Like once I could only have one computer on at a time, not two. Only one computer can be set to get their e-mail, if you change it, then the other one is blocked... until changed back. Password doesn't seem to matter, as of now, they have my main computers ID (or something like that) and it comes in without a password.
I was a bit ticked when only one computer could be on at a time, but with WiFi and the signal carrying to others in the neighborhood, I can see why they did it. Now with WPA on the WiFi, I can have multiple at the same time. They are all my computers and I am paying for there 'home' service... so!
But, no, you do not need Tiger, I even think Classic could get on with the right browser, even if all the security features are not in the older browsers.
Remember, you will have to get the service set-up by wired 'ethernet'... once it is, then WiFi should be able to be used. (With the name/password for the WPA)
It's better to set it up with one at comcast on the phone, as even if you have all the ID's and Passwords entered in, they have to do something on their end to allow you onto their server with it. I believe they should of had it all set for when I did my end, but it wasn't, they seem to had to confirm it was me doing it, perhaps something to do with paying the bill and 'actually' getting the service. (They are very security conscious... sometimes to being an annoyance.)

  • Does Airport Time capsule needs to be always connected by WAN to wifi router to use as external hard drive?

    Hi,
    I'm getting puzzled.
    I have:
    New Airport Time Capsule
    MBP 15 Retina
    MBP 15 2008y
    ATV3
    Broadband with wifi SkyHub router
    iPhone 5s
To use the Capsule as wireless external Hard drive does it needs to be always WAN cabled to SkyHub wifi broadband router? Awkward if does.
If I plug it out I can't see the capsule in the Finder?
    How to set it up?
    How to move files?
I wish to have on the capsule iTunes & iPhoto libraries, other documents and have acces to them from both MBPs and phones. Not as back up machine but for everyday use.
    Thanks
    Marcin

I wish to have on the capsule iTunes & iPhoto libraries, other documents and have acces to them from both MBPs and phones.
That is possible for your MBPs but not for your iPhones. In addition, you are likely to find its performance with iTunes and iPhoto to be unacceptably slow, to the point of uselessness.
If you really want to, it is possible to configure the Time Capsule join your existing router as a wireless client. In that configuration it will be available to your wireless network as a storage and backup device. It does not strictly need a wired connection to your router. To configure it that way it is best to start with a "hard reset".
It's not worth the effort though, due to the unacceptably slow transfer speed you are likely to achieve.

  • How to re-initialise an Apple time capsule to a different WiFi network

Upgraded the Netcom WiFi hub to a Netgear Wfi hub and the nether won’t recognise the time capsule to perform backups as and when prompted.

    Lapastenaque
I have been on the chat line with Apple Tech.
I have realised that the only way the Time Capsule was made to work the initial setup, was the the Netcomm wifi hub had 1 ethernet jack.
An ethernet cable was connected from the wifi hub to the net port of the Time Capsule.
With the Netgear mobile wifi broadband modem hub, no ethernet outlet is provided for this model.
It then remained to simply connect a hard wired ethernet cable from the MBP to the Time Capsule ethernet port.
This then re-established the wifi network, “without the wifi” but a hard connected ethernet cable.
The Apple time capsule cannot be utilised to engage wifi direct to the internet via a third party mobile wifi hub.
It defies common sense to call it a wifi hub that cannot connect via the 802.11 mode to the internet.
It is a deliberate by negative inbuilt design flaw that Apple are of no mind to remedy.
For now the Time Machine backups are taking place on regulated times set by the software.
I thank you for your endeavour to lend assistance to the resolution of this query I had about the Time Capsule and use of Time Machine protocol.

  • Mac OS X Tiger or Panther with wifi on a Wallstreet G3 Powerbook

    I have a G3 Wallstreet Powerbook with
    7Gb hard disk
    192Mb RAM
    400 MHz processor
    PCMCIA slot for card modem
    CD ROM only drive
    OS 9.2
I would like to try and put OS X Tiger on this machine and then put some sort of wi-fi card in it so that I can connect it to a wifi broadband router.
1 Will OS X Tiger work OK on this machine? Or would Panther (10.3.9) work better? I would prefer to install Tiger to Panther. Or would either or both just run SO slowly on this G3, that it just isn't worth it?
2 If one or the other will work, what wifi card should I get for the Wallstreet, and will this go in the PCMCIA slot, or deeper inside the powerbook somewhere? Can someone recommend an inexpensive card that works well?
3 If neither Tiger nor Panther will work, would it be possible to get a wifi card that will work with OS 9.2? Again, could someone recommend a card that works well with OS 9.2?
I have read somewhere that it may be necessary to install XPostFacto before installing OS X.
It would be helpful to know what of the above is possible and what not, and obtain clear step-by-step instructions from someone who understands the options far better than I do for the order I should do everything in. I don't wish to start spending money on the whole process, only to find further down the line that I can't achieve the end result ie using OS X and a wi-fi card.
The background is that I have a g5 iMac which will continue to be my computer of choice, but when I travel an up-to-date-as-possible G3 would be helpful.
    Thanks, Nick
    G5 iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Panther requires built-in USB ports and Tiger requires both built-in USB and Firewire ports. The Wallstreet has neither. The installers will refuse to install on the computer.
You can use a freeware utility called XPostFacto to install Panther (don't know about Tiger) but how well it will work (or if it will even install) would be experimental at best. The Wallstreet lacks the horsepower for OS X.
