Dialin to 3845, giving IP address of VLAN on another switch

Boy that title was hard to write.
Basically this is what I have:
1. a user dialing into a 3845 router via NM-16AM-V2 socket (async).
2. the user gets an IP address from local pool. (192.168.1.?)
3. the router is connected through a trunk to a Catalyst 3550.
4. on the Catalyst 3550, there exist three vlans (20 network, 172 network and 192 network).
The user can ping the 172 network on the switch and the 20 network on the switch. However, it cannot ping the user on the 192 network on the switch. (192.168.1.10).
Any ideas??

    Hi,
    your WebLogic server is not setup to listen for the IP address. You can change this in the WLS console for the server configuration. Note that when you install WLS and don't define any hostname then it will listen to all addresses (which also is the default for the integrated WLS)

    Switch A --- Customer firewall 1

    Switch B  --- Customer firewall2
    May be some one can help me.
    There was a nagious alert yesterday and on investigation I found the 'Duplicate address x.x.x.x(VIP) on Vlanxxx, sourced by 0006.b19c.c5d9' error
    It a HA feed from our switches which is going to customer firewalls.
    On further investigation I have found on our switch A the ARP table is not learning the VIP address from this mac-address where as on switch B is learning the VIP address through mac 0006.b10c.c8d9 which is customer sonic firewall which is not a normal behaviour.   
    Our switches are Cisco 3560 switch.
    Please if you could let me know what causing this.

    Yes, there is duplicate MAC. But, its duplicate between interface vlan address and virtual MAC address on HSRP.
    when I type command :
    show mac address | i 0000.0c07.ac01
    It shows me :
    100    0000.0c07.ac01    STATIC      CPU
    I think this MAC generate by system on HSRP. Currently I shutdown interface vlan 100 on switch A, like as your suggestion. But the impact is my client will get trouble when switch B is down, because HSRP is not running well.

    I created applications in web dynpro.So i imported in the Enterprise Portal.
    In that I created Role----Under That Worksets (X ,Y ,Z, W) -For each workset I created more than 4 Pages to that---For each page i added Iview.
    I added "IP Address" and "HostName" in the c:/windows/system32/drivers/etc/host
    Then i login into the Portal with normal URL
    http://<HostName>:50000/irj/portal
    So its Displaying.....Up to this its fine...
    If suppose i want to login with
    http://<IP Address>:50000/irj/portal....Under Each Workset, one page is showing,,,means one Iview is Visible...means Detailed Navigation is not showing.
    All Pages are not visible...
    Please any one help me to do this....
    So its not possible to say to anyone ,,,,u have to add this ip Addrss in the path.
    Please Provide the Permanent solution ,,even by giving IP address also all pages and Iviews must see..

    Hi Sushma,
    I am not sure if the same apply when you access the URL through the IP. The SAP BI works on the concept of Fully Qualified domain names for access and also there is a system of web dispatchers which are configured for the domain name to handle report requests.
    Also with portal in place you will not be able to see the URL of the application running within portal
    for example the URL we see are
    ttp://<xyz>.com/irj/portal but then the individual URLs for the applications running within the portal cannot be seen...due to security reasons.
    That could be the possible case.
    Regarding Use of Portal at client place:
    1. You can use the VPN connectivity. You will only need to give the access rights to the perticular id & that will be all.
    2. Assign the portal port to the some global address. That will work.
    But, I suggest, VPN is better.

    Leave the switch in Layer 2 mode 
    Cable  VLAN2  to the to the outside router gateway 192.168.2.254 interface
    cable  VLAN3  to the to the outside router gateway 192.168.3.254 interface
    Excuse the rough diagram
    Make the port going to the outside router gateway,  untagged in the vlans they will be transporting. (I am assuming that the router gateway is not vlan aware.)
    IP hosts will most likely get DHCP from the router gateway.  The IP hosts will then automatically send IP traffic to the router gateway.
    VLAN 1 in my switch,  could  then be the only interface within the switch  that has a IP address associated  with it,  for management purposes.

    I am trouble shooting a SF 200-48P and I am a bit lost without a CLI not used to the GUI. What I need to know is how to add the IP address helper command to the switch?
    I have a number of IP phones which are not getting an IP address from DHCP (PCs which are diasy chained off the phones are all working correctly). On the higher end switches I would have added the IP address helper command to the VLAN and that would have sorted it. However I can't seem to figure out how to do this on the small business switch.

    hi,
    I am unable to add subnet IP range to VLAN in SGE2000P switch. Can anyone help me to configure same. Thanks in advance
    I want to configure 3 VLAN in my SGE2000P switch. as a router I am using my Fortigate firewall 50b. I have done all required configuration in switch but till I am unable to assign subnet range to switch. 

    i am using ios version v1.2.7.7 (latest)
    i tried the following CLI commands
    switch(config)# vlan 2
    switch(config)# interface vlan 2
    switch(config-if)# name project2
    switch(config-if)# ip address 192.168.10.2 255.255.255.0
    so as and when i press ENTER on the ip address line , the switch stopes responding. i tried changing vlan number and name but no luck.
    it already has vlan 1 , with default ip address 192.168.1.254 , i cannot ping this IP after this.
    pls suggest...

    now we have 2 switches: SF300-24
    on one SF300-24 we config it at layer 3 mode with VLAN configuration same as following
    VLAN ID 2 (ports: 2 -6) have ip interface  192.168.2.254/24
    VLAN ID 3 (ports: 7 - 10) have ip interface  192.168.3.254/24
    VLAN ID 4 (ports 11- 15 ) have ip interface  192.168.4.254/24
    and VLAN 1 default have IP address: 192.168.1.200
    DHCP relay  - DHCP server 192.168.3.1
                       - DHCP relay: VLAN2; VLAN3; VLAN4
    ip route: 0.0.0.0   0.0.0.0  192.168.3.1
    all ports of VLAN2, VLAN3, VLAN4 set access mode.
    and another SF300-24
    was configed at layer 2. We config VLAN ID 2 ̣̣̣have ports  2 -6; VLAN ID 3 ports 7 -10; VLAN ID 4 port 11-15 ,too.
    And we use port 26 on 2 switches SF300-24 is trunk mode then we connect both SF300-24 switches.
    But on SF300-24 layer 2 cann't inderstand VLAN from Sf300-24 layer 3!!!
    Could you please help me check this situation?
    How to config VLAN on 2 switches SF300-24 Layer 3 and SF300-24 layer 2?

    First i would upgrade to 1.1.8 since the 1.0.0.27 was beta code.
    Next when when connecting both switches together each port will need set via Trunk mode with proper native vlan and tagged vlan traffic. What's the configuration of your trunk ports on each switch?

  • Two VLANs on one switch port?

    Currently we have the following
    Cat 4003 with VLAN trunking turned on to multiple switches. Each port in those exterior switches is assigned to a vlan(we have about 60 different vlans).
    What I would like to do is on those exterior switches have two vlans assigned to it.
    We'd like to create a single IP Phone VLAN(let's call it 999) that can span our entire enterprise and would have dhcp deployed on it.
    Each port is connected to an IP phone which has a 2 port switch in them. One port to the wall, one to the pc.
    The switch ports on those phones support vlan tagging
    How would setup an exterior switch to access 2 vlans that connect to 2 port switch on an IP phone?

    To facilitate ease of deployment, use VTP so that you can centrally create the vlans and propagate to each exterior switch. Now I believe you already do have a layer 3 engine or router that does routing between all these vlans. What switches are used on teh exterior ? This is to find out if voice vlan support is available.
    In cat switches, voice vlan is created using command,
    set port auxiliaryvlan vlan
    In IOS based switches,
    int fa0/1
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk encap dot1q
    switchport trunk native vlan
    switchport voice vlan
    switchport priority cos extend 0
    or
    int fa0/1
    switchport mode access
    switchport access vlan
    switchport voice vlan
    I am not sure about support of voice/aux vlan in 4003. We will have check your other switch models/ software versions to determine support for this command.

    Dear friends,
    I've connected two sites with the following configuration:
    Site 1:
    Stack Linksys SFE2000P - Firmware version 1.0.0.X
    Port 1/g3 connected to a FO link to site 2
    Oficina 2:
    Stack Linksys SFE2000P - Firmware version 3.0.0.X
    Port 1/g3 connected to a FO link to site1
    I've tried to create a VLAN to communicate only a few ports of both sites:
    4/e23 y 4/e24 of site 1
    7/e23 y 7/e24 of site 2
    To do this, I tried the following:
    Port 1/g3 (site1) -> VLAN 50 (tagged) - Trunk
    Port 1/g3 (site 2) -> VLAN 50 (tagged) - Trunk
    Port 4/e23 y 4/e24 (site1) -> VLAN 50 (untagged)
    Port 7/e23 y 7/e24 (site 2) -> VLAN 50 (untagged)
    It doesn't work!!!. In the same stack of each site it works without problems. Could you help me??? There is some misconfiguration???
    I've stablished other VLANs between Linksys and 3Com Switches, but now it doesn't work at all.

    I Did find a same article on this forum. Maybe this would help you. an article coming from GV.
    * access mode: an access mode port connects to a normal device like a desktop, printer, or similar. An access mode port can be member of a single VLAN only, i.e. you have to decide to which VLAN it is supposed to belong to. In your case, you configure an access mode port for either VLAN 10 or VLAN 20.
    With a single switch things are clear now: some ports are VLAN 10 and some ports are VLAN 20. VLAN 10 can talk to each other. VLAN 20 can talk to each other. No traffic passes between VLAN 10 and VLAN 20.
    Of course, now you want to connect this switch to some other network devices, in particular the second SRW because you need additional ports or you have an additional location. And there is the ASA which provides internet access for these VLANs.
    * trunk mode: This is where trunk mode comes in. A trunk mode port can carry multiple VLANs on a single port. This is done using 802.1q tags. 802.1q tagged ethernet frames have an additional field for the VLAN to which the frame belongs to. With this, a switch can send frames for VLAN 10 and VLAN 20 through a single port to another switch or router. Each frame sent is tagged with 10 or 20 depending on which VLAN the frame belongs to. The receiver will accept each frame and assign it to the corresponding VLAN on the receiving side. This way the receiving switch or router is able to keep those VLANs strictly separated.
    So let's say you want two VLANs 10 & 20 in your network. You would create VLANs 10 & 20 on your ASA and both SRWs. (Create only means that the device knows this VLAN exists and is able to handle traffic for this VLAN). You would configure LAN port 1 of your ASA as trunk with members VLAN 10 & 20. You configure port 1 & 24 of your first SRW in trunk mode with members VLAN 10 & 20. You configure port 1 of your second SRW in trunk mode with members VLAN 10 & 20. Now you wire port 1 of your ASA to port 1 of your first SRW. Then you wire port 24 of your first SRW to port 1 of your second SRW.
    This creates the VLAN trunk through your network. Traffic in both VLANs can travel through this trunk between the switches and to the ASA and from there, if properly routed, into the internet.

    Tips to Add a Switch as a Slave to the Stack
    To add a switch, as a slave, to a stack, complete these steps:
    Note: Make sure the switch that you add into the stack has the same IOS version as the switches in the stack. Refer to Catalyst 3750 Software Upgrade in a Stack Configuration with Use of the Command-Line Interface to upgrade the IOS in a catalyst 3750 switch.
    Change the switch priority of the switch to be added to "1".switch stack-member-number priority new-priority-valueNote: This step is optional, but it will make sure that the switch has fewer chances to become a stackmaster in the future.
    Power off the switch that is to be added.
    Make sure that the stack is fully connected so that, when you connect the new switch, the stack will be at least in half connectivity and does not partition.
    Connect the new switch to the stack with the StackWise ports.
    Power on the newly added switch.
    After the new switch comes up, issue the command show switch to verify stack membership.

    How should I create multiple vlans across multiple switches?
    For instance, I have two (primary/redudant) layer 3 (core) switches and four layer 2 access switches (Cisco 2960) for the hosts, and given these are the vlans/subnets to be created. Should I do it in the core switches only and it would just propagate through the access via VTP?  Just trying to practice and learn.. Any help will be greatly appreciated:)

    You will have the SVI on the core. Set a VTP domain, make one of the cores as VTP server and rest of the switches as VTP clients. Once you do this, you won't have to login into each switch and create a vlan locally. The vlans will be automatically advertised from the VTP server to all the VTP clients.

  • Spanning vlans across access switches in distribution block.... please help

    Can someone please explain why Cisco states that in a Campus Hierarchical modle if Vlans are spanned across Access switches in a distribution block, then the Distrubution to distribution link should be Layer 2. Is this really necesary or just a recommendation, and if so why? Can't this link be a L3 link when spanning vlans across Access switches in distribution block, as I understand the benefit of having a L3 distribution to distribution link so that SPT is avoided.

    The cisco recommended design is L3 links, but these is only possible if you have no vlans you need to span over the hole network.
    It depends on your topology or what you want achieve.
    If you need for one or more vlan's spanned the LAN, you need to use a layer 2 connection between all switches and between distribution too.
    In my company we have for example a few vlans for restricted areas, like device management or else, so we can't use L3 Links in the distribution area because these vlan's are terminated at the firewall. I think these is good thing.
    I would recommend you if you don't have to span one or more vlan's across the network to use L3 Links, specially in the case of redundancy way's. So you need no spanning-tree, but need to use other protocols like GLBP or else. The works faster and are not so confusing (for some people) as STP.

    You can do it only with hub in between and also please note that when sniffing with Wireshark on Windows the OS would remove VLAN tag so you may need to use Linux machine.
