Dialing contacts with number as name

ok, first time poster and here's what i got.
i have contacts for many retail locations with store numbers.
example: (in the contact info) First Name: 1234, Last Name: Mountainview Store.
so i go and hit the send button to pull up the phone and dial "1234" and it says "no contacts" and waits for me to finish typing in this "new" number and hit send.
but, if i start all over from the home screen and hit the send button to pull up the phone and then hit the menu button and then click on "call from contacts" then i can dial "1234" and it pulls up the contact for the Mountianview store, so i then hit the send button and it dials that contact.
so i gotta know if there is a better way to input the store info in the contacts or just what do i have to do so i can type the store number in the phone to have it pull up the contact without going to 'menu>call from contacts' each time i call. i don't want to use the city name (call me lazy, it's ok.)
Many Thanks!

The problem is that the device assumes if you enter numbers in the phone app that you want to dial a hone number.
I think the only work around is to simply go the address book first and then search for the store number and dial from there
If you have Dial from Home Screen disabled then you can simply hit the A key to go to address book then drill down using your store number from there and then call.  You are still effectively using the call from contacts feature but skipping the first phone app step.

  • 6021 and synchronising contact with a company name

Hello, does anybody know if it is possible to synchronise contacts with no pre name but only a company name?
I can only get the names and extra info of these contacts on my 6021 but no company name.
For the 6600 there is a seperate PC suite that can do the trick but is it also possible with the suite for my 6021.
    I am using version 6.83.14.1
    Nokia 232>8110i>7110>6600>N95

As far as I can see the series 40 phones only allow 1 name field containing both the first and the last name. For example: when names are being stored in Outlook with both a first and last name they are combined in the name field within the phone after synchronisation. Putting an 'a' in the name field results in omly displaying an 'a' and a phone number...
The most simple solution would be to look for a company name and place it in the phone's name field if both first and last name are not available in Outlook.
But it seems Nokia support is not willing to look at the problem. They don't respond to email or anything

  • Contact with same first name as previous, overwrit...

PC Suite 6.84. When I create a new contact with the same first name as an existing contact in PC Suite, and then I save it to the phone, the new contact info overwrites the old!
    For example:
    first name: Airlines
    last name: United
    So that entry is there.
    But then if I add:
    first name: Airlines
    last name: US Air
The United Airlines entry is not longer there, only the US Air entry.
I want "Airlines" as all the first names because then they should all be grouped together in the contacts list (sorted by 1st name).

What phone model do you have ?

  • Dial contact phone number?

On my old pc, I used to have the option to plug in a phone line and have Outlook dial the contact's number for me. I don't see that option in Address Book, but it seems like it should exist. What am I missing?

nothing like this exists in Address Book. maybe some 3rd party software can do it but you'd have to search for it.

  • 2.0 firmware causes some contacts with same last name to not be displayed

After upgrading to 2.0 it appears that only the first contact for a given last name is shown in contacts. Interestingly, if i search for that last name all of the contacts show up, so they are indeed syncing to the phone but are not able to be viewed in the regular contact list. I tried restoring the phone (imported settings from last sync after restore) and still have the same problem. Anyone else see the same thing?

I'm not aware of anyone called just "John"! Everybody I know has at least a first name and a last name... therefore that is the data I enter into Address Book and iSync works fine for me and all my Sony Ericsson phones.
If you don't provide the required data, you can't really expect iSync to work correctly.
There is a reason for this... its because most phones don't split First and Last Name into two fields like Address Book does. So, if you have a contact named just "John" with no last name, when you sync, how does iSync know whether "John" is a First or Last name?
To get around this iSync adds a '-' into the blank field, so that when syncing back it knows where to put the data.
The solution is extremely simple, just provide Address Book with a first and last name (which AFAIK everyone has).

  • ISync adds a "-" to contacts with First/Last Name Blank

    Hello, I'm using iSync 2.3 with a Nokia 8800 (S40) and Sonyericsson T610.
When a contact's name is First name:John Last name:Smith, it syncs properly to my phones as "John Smith".
With First name: John Smith Last name: empty, it syncs as John-Smith-.
Same goes with a blank first name. Some of the contacts only have a first name written in, anyone knows how I can get rid of the extra -s?

  • When I click an email address to "Add to Address Book", it ends up in my Contacts with the first name in the last name box (and vice versa)

I have seen this posted before without resolution on one of the old operating systems.  Does anyone have a solution to this.  How to we get Apple to fix this if there is no solution?

When I create a text message from my contact on my iphone 5, the contacts mobile number appears and not there name.  But when they respond to my text, is shows up as a new text message with there name.  How do I fix this?

Double click the home button and swipe up the messages app to stop it, then open the app again. This pretty much completely stops the process and freshly opens it again, resolving problems at times. I have had this happen before as well on my iPad, I get a banner, check messages, and nothing new is there.
If that doesn't work, close the app like suggested above, but then restart the phone by holding down the home and lock button for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears.

  • Previously blocked number wont save to contacts with name anymore

Yesterday, I blocked a certain cellphone number. After realizing that it was someone I knew, I unblocked it and tried to save the number to contacts with his name. The name registers in my contact list but in my text message threads, it's still just a number.
I have restored my phone to factory settings and imported my iCloud back up today. My phone saves other numbers with names effectively. However my phone still won't save that number I previously blocked.
Any help is appreciated, thank you.

  • Hi Everyone,  I am using iPhone5, my question in how to display name and contact number both stored for incoming and outgoing calls? If I have saved five different numbers with a same name, how do I recognise that from which number caller is calling?

Hi Everyone,  I am using iPhone5, my question in how to display name and contact number both stored for incoming and outgoing calls? If I have saved five different numbers with a same name, how do I recognise that from which number caller is calling?

I have friends all over Europe, does it matter what number they use to call me? Nope! All incoming calls are free for me.
The only time you ever have to worry about which number is if you get charged for incoming domestic/international calls.
You can tag their number (work/home/iphone) and that may show on the CallerID accordingly.
    It should show, John Doe
    underneath,    work/home/mobile

    Try this...
have a text convo with the person you want to delete. Go to the top contact in the text convo, hit edit contact, and delete that contact.
That resolution came from another thread on this issue, and this did solve to poster's issue.

  • Multiple Contacts with the Same Number

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1583335?start=0&tstart=0
I found that thread but I can't reply to it (it's been archived), and I want to know why Apple feels there is no need to make this distinction.
People in that thread suggested it operates the same as Caller ID - this is NOT the case. With a Caller ID, the name reported is not on YOUR end, but the phone company's. On a cell phone, it just matches the incoming number with your address book. And I'd like to add that even most land line phone handsets have a contact book that it looks up incoming calls to override the caller ID.
But the difference with an iPhone, especially with iOS 6, is all the data integration. It imports your Facebook friends directly into your contacts, but gives NO way to override or modify that information. So if, say, your brother lives at home with your parents, and he lists their home number as his own on Facebook, I have no way to alter this, and the incoming call is shown as "Home or His Name" (I've been using a contact named "Home" for that number) with no way to change it!!
I can't POSSIBLY be the only person that still uses contacts like "Home" or "Nextdoor Neighbor"... Apple seems to assume that each contact is a single person, and that isn't always the case.
I liked the idea that a poster in that thread I linked at the top of this post had - forming "groups" of contacts and assigning a name to the group as a whole. I see iOS 6 added groups of contacts, but I don't see ANY way to create them.

One workaround I've found to this is adding an extra character to the phone number in contacts which you do not want displayed when a call is received.
    Smith residence: 111-222-3333
    John Smith: 111-222-3333 x
    Mary Smith: 111-222-3333 x
It's not particularly pretty or elegant, but it gets the job done. Calls placed to Mary or John seem to work, even with the extra character, although this may vary depending on the network provider.

  • Is there a max number of names that can be put into Contacts

is there a max number of names that can be put into Contacts and still have the app work well?

Yes, there is. It's how many contacts your hard drive can take. So you can fill up the entire computer with nothing but contacts until your HDD/Flash has no space left. So if you have 250GB, it'd be less than if you had 500GB and you'd have more on 750GB.
